The hotel is right across from the port and is near a walking strèet in old town. The hotel is art deco and could use some sprucing up but was a good deal. I really appreciated the private outdoor area with the room. Breakfast was solid too and the service was great. Recommend.

Not as advertised. Poorly kept. Pictures on line look great but not as advertised. Room - headboard was shredded - brutal mattress and pillows. Pool - filthy green slime, no evidence of filtration system working. Pool area. - looks like it had not been attended to for many month. Upstairs lounge area - full of garbage and old bottles… Don’t book here.

It was a good location for the old town. During the day there are several restaurants open, but after 6 pm the choices nearby are limited. Our first room had a strong cigarette smell, but the staff moved us with no issue the next morning to a clean room.

I enjoy staying in boutique hotels and am not a fan of fancy ones, as I consider them a waste of money when most of the time is spent outside. However, I am certain there are much better options for staying in Montevideo. My room was dirty, there were no glasses, the AC barely worked, and on top of that, my room (#6) faced a bar with loud music playing all night. In the morning, the smell of breakfast permeated every corner of the hotel

The hotel is within walking distance of many bars and restaurants in the old city and the old market hall with its many shops and restaurants is just across the street. The room and bed were comfortable and the shower was excellent. The hotel staff were helpful and friendly. I would recommend this hotel for a solo traveler or a couple especially for convenient access to the port and Buquebus (to Buenos Aires).

The hotel is overrated. There were mosquitoes and spiders in the room, the room was not clean. U see the bed was pretty filthy. The shower leaked. It was noisy - doors and room cleaning in the middle of the night. Breakfast was good and the staff was polite but I just would not recommend this hotel.

The staff was excellent and the breakfast was tasty as was our meal across the street at their affiliated restaurant El Palenque. The hotel is a bit rundown and the pool and rooftop bar were closed due to construction. Overall a nice stay and great location if arriving by ferry and for walking around the Ciudad Vieja.

POS’s: Easy walk to/from BS AS ferry, close to the market & tourist info. Hot water in abundance, walk-in shower, bed was okay not stellar. NEG’s: Bed on a platform not well supported, lack of attention to detail, light fixtures don’t work, odds and ends broken or in disrepair, dust bunnies abound, soundproofing inadequate, they play Muzak in the common areas from 7 am onwards. I do give them credit for trying to make it at that location in the otherwise forgotten and slowly gentrifying Cuidad Vieja. I complained about being bitten in the unkempt first room I was assigned. No attempt to move me until I packed up and said I’d write a bad Expedia review. A better customer service response would have ameliorated the situation.

We loved our stay directly across from El Puerto de Montevideo. Be sure to stop in for amazing food and drink, as well as souvenirs! The staff is very friendly, and even though we were there in the winter, we took advantage of the rooftop pool area for some sunshine and relaxation. The Indoor Coffee Shop next door is a great place to start your day in the old town!

My experience at this hotel was extremely disappointing. On the very first day, I stepped on a piece of glass, a clear indication of inadequate cleaning. The property itself was in disrepair, with unstable shower bars, broken drains, and damaged chairs. The in-room phone was out of order, compounding our frustrations. Despite displaying the do not disturb sign daily, the cleaning staff persistently knocked on our door and disregarded our request for privacy. Although the Don Hotel advertised a 24-hour laundry service, the staff refused to wash guest clothing unless specifically instructed by the owner, resulting in delays that made the service virtually unusable. It would be less frustrating if the hotel did not offer laundry service at all. Mara, a key front desk employee, consistently treated us with rudeness and a lack of professionalism during every interaction. To make matters worse, security staff aggressively confronted us in our own room, which I later learned was instigated by Mara. Feeling unsafe and unwelcome, we decided to leave early and checked into another hotel, where we finally received the courtesy and respect we expected from the start.

My only advice is stay away!! The rooms were horribly filthy. There was a later of dirt on the shelves. It’s touristy during the day and dangerous at night in the area. The bathrooms were filthy. I rented for 2 night. Decided I would stay just one night and sleep on top of the sheets. I went to take a shower and the tub was filthy with globs of soap on there handle. The tub was cracked. The toilet not cleaned properly. I decided to leave immediately!! The offered me another room. I looked at the other room ands it wasn’t any better. I booked another hotel and left. And of course, the property refused to refund my money. Buyer beware!!!

The Hotel is really nice, the staff, the breakfast is ok (you choose what to eat from a menu the day before), you have a car Garage included with the fare, the room is clean the bath is nice, has a little fridge, cable tv, wifi, air conditioning, everything what you need to be comfortable. in the roof top is a nice solarium and a pool, it must be really enjoyable in spring or summer. The Hotel is located near the port, in front to the Mercado del Puerto, a place call Ciudad Vieja (Old City) a nice and tourist Market with restaurants and gifts shops. In the night the area arround the Hotel is not so beauty as it is at daylight. Nothing to complain about the Hotel, the surroundings has many walking streets with restaurants, pubs and other ammenities, but you have to be carefull in the night. Like any other tourist area.
We will be back to this Hotel for shure.

Location convenient but late night concert outdoors across the street til 1:30 am made sleep impossible. Excellent breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. But property needs maintenance. TV in room did not work, one bedside lamp did not work, AC not effective. Pool deck had broken boards.

Warm Staff in the Heart of the Old City

We had a great stay at the Don Boutique. The entire staff—from the front desk, to housekeeping, to the maintenance men—simply could not have been friendlier or more accommodating! The location is super convenient to the port for BuqueBus ferries, and the hotel overlooks the old Port Market. The room was spacious, if a bit dated. But it was still a very comfortable stay.

Staff was nice enough but place was smelly and run down with bad music coming through the wall from the neighbor. The market next door was only for barbecue restaurants and tourist items. Not an actual market. We left after one night ASAP. The area has potential to come back to life some day and it really should since it is full of historic jewels that have been neglected.

Had a great stay for the price! Complimentary breakfast was really nice and the staff were all very friendly. Helped us get a SIM card set up and get bikes rented for a ride around Montevideo. Location is great - right in old town Montevideo and right next to Mercado del Puerto - a must see! There was no rooftop bar as advertised, but I'm thinking this might be because of us being there in the offseason.

This was one of the most horrifying hotel experiences I've ever had. I am a very frequent traveler. When returning one evening around 11pm, my key did not work. I went to the front desk and the clerk could not open the door. He said he needed a locksmith to open it. Thats just crazy. Then to make matters worse, the hotel did not have another room to transfer us to for the night so we could sleep. We ended up waiting in the lobby for about 3 hours while the clerk prepared a dirty room for us. Mind you, I did not have access to my medicine, clothes, phone chargers, etc. To make matters worse from there, this room was totally fithly and just smelled like he sprayed lysol everywhere. The next morning I woke up with a rash. We got access to the old room, with our phones dead, hardly getting any sleep because of the smell. The hotel then says they could not process a refund and that I had to PHYSICALLY go to a Western Union. Just insane. Calling my credit card company immediately. While we were waiting for the room, we heard 4 gunshots outside. Neighborhood is sketch, hotel is a complete nightmare. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT stay here.

The area is full of homeless, drug addicts.
There was no window, which is probably a blessing because we didn't want to see the outside.

We only stayed one night and went to another hotel.

If you are women traveling alone, do NOT stay at this hotel.

Worn out hotel with open air music venue across

It might have been cute and charming once upon a time, but staying there was a mistake.
The hotel is seriously worn out. I mean towels with holes, old airconditioning not anymore up to the task of cooling and very noisy, pool with many tiles missing and so on.
This is also the first hotel I have ever been that asks you to sign a paper that they will charge you USD 10,00 for very time/day you consume/drink something in your room, unless it is from the poorly stocked and very expensive minibar.
Although they advertise \"Home Made\" breakfast, nothing is really home made and average quality.
Worst is the open air concert venue right across the small street. From our room we could look right into it. As we stayed there during Carnival, we had a weekend with three events and another weekend with 5 events that lasted till the wee hours. And then a rock concert in the middle of the week. Noise reached up to 63-65 decibels inside the room. Obviously sleeping was impossible. We had a room at the front of the hotel, and at our request they moved us to the back of the hotel in a much smaller room, but the sound reflection was still way to strong.
We requested for a room in another hotel of the same company that was away from the noise, but that was refused. At the end we left the hotel and booked another. We were not re-imbursed for those nights lost. Horrible experience and we will never ever return.

Great location to explore the Old Town. Clean, modern decor. Very friendly and helpful staff. Good size room given the hotel is a lot more compact in reality than it looks in the pictures. Obviously as others have said, it's right next to the old market and a music venue for cruise passengers, so expect noise from the street. My only gripe is why they insist on you signing a form saying you will incur a $10 fine if you take your own food or drink into your room - this is just really annoying and I cannot imagine what they are hoping to achieve by it. So we hid a bottle of coke and a packet of crisps in our case when we were out in case we got fined. Honestly, what a ridiculous situation to create for your so-called guests.

The property was indeed centrally located in Old Town, that's about it! Everything else was little more than a hostel, no hot water in one of the sinks, air conditioner that blew \"air\". no maid service, at least after the first night. Generally I don't give negative reviews. If an experience was not great I remain silent. The difference in how this hotel.was described and my experience was so different. I wanted any propective buyers to beware. Pictures can be quite decieving.

My husband and I have been traveling around the world for quite a while, all the hotels that were described as 4 stars never disappointed us until we stayed at this one. The bedroom wasn’t clean, a mediocre breakfast, it could use some renovation too. The white blanket in our bedroom was covered with yellow stains, go figure...
And to make things worse we ask for room service on the second day to get the room clean, and when we come back to the room later that day the safe password that I installed on it, wasn’t working anymore, but before I left it was because I had to get money from it. I would not recommend it to anyone.

This is a very nice hotel, in the older section of Montevideo. The staff is nice, friendly, and helpful. The desk staff does speak English. Breakfast is good and included. The room was very nice, bed comfortable, and as nice amenities. The air conditioner did leak in our room, but we put towels down to catch the water. There is a roof top pool. It is not heated so beware before jumping in. There is also a rooftop bar.

We had a good stay overall at the Don Boutique Hotel. It's located very conveniently next to the port and in the old city, so you can walk to/from the ferry, as well as easily explore the old city and reach the main plazas by foot. Beware of the hair dryer - I didn't notice that it didn't have the back piece to cover the motor at first, so it took out a few chunks of my hair!

Disappointed, would have not stayed here. I wasn't very pleased with my stay, the refrigerator wasn't working, and to use a microwave I would have needed to go to their restaurant across the street to do that. Plus the area wasn't that great, if I had known what I know now, I would have chose to stay in Pocitos / Las Ramblas, a more modern and gorgeous rather than this hotel that wasn't really worth my money.

My disappointment also lies in how their service was. Left some beautiful earrings that I got from Bolivia behind and offered to pay back the shipping to the US, instead they quote me $160 for 2 day shipping. I asked how much it cost for regular packet mail and no response. Customer service? Forget about it, once you're off the premise, they won't care. Very disappointed that they wouldn't go the extra mile.

Excellent small hotel located in the old town. The owner was extremely friendly and welcoming. Rooms are updated, clean, and comfortable. I would use the hotels airport pickup service. The cabs allowed at the airport are a scam and a different company than you will find all over the city. They do use a meter but the price was $100usd. Hotel offers the service for $50. Would have used their service if I had known.

From the second day to our last day we did not enjoyed this hotel experience. Broken shower, smelly rooms and ordinary breakfast and service. Plus noisy at night due to barking dogs. I booked 8 nights and left a day earlier cause we could not stand the room smell of BBQ meat smell all day long inside and outside the room. noice of barking dogs. and the ordinary breakfast which left you wondering if I should have paid for it in the first place. Service was average at reception at best.
Not the only one that complaint about shower issues either. Would not stay there again.

We had a fabulous time at this hotel. The front desk staff was extremely helpful in recommending places to go, places to eat, and securing tickets for our future travel. This hotel is located in a great area surrounded by lots of activities within one block of the hop on hop off bus in about four blocks from the pre-Columbian Museum This is a great location for those who want to be close to the port. The only suggestion I have is not to use taxis but to use Uber there is a major difference in price.

This is my review of the deluxe suite which is around £165 a night. When we arrived we where told our room was not ready which was a little disappointing but is probably because they only have one suite room.

The corner big jacuzzi bath was nice as was the choice of TV channels.

My only downsides where that the sofa in the living area had a lot of damage and came away with lots of back bits when you sat on it. Which was a shame as it meant we couldnt use half of the room. I used points to pay so wasn't a big deal but would reccomend going for the deluxe superior room over the suite.

We were very happy with our stay at this hotel. The facilities, service and location were excellent. We enjoyed spending time in the rooftop pool. The room was very modern and well appointed. The property was very centrally located and had great views from the rooftop and the pool area. The breakfast selection was great and the staff was friendly. The rooms were cute be it smaller.

The staff were extremely nice.

The whole trip was awesome. Maybe slightly marred by the taxi that the hotel ordeeed for us who refused to run the meter and wanted to charge us in usd only.

Wonderful modern hip hotel

We live in Montevideo booked with my husband to have a nice night away from the kids. We were welcomed with a glass of medio y medio by the friendly staff. The decor of the hotel is very cool and modern while conserving the antique feel of the building. The room was perfectly comfortable, a large king sized bed with a very comfortable mattress. A very cool modern bathroom with a jacuzzi tub and nice shower head. Everything was very modern and hip. The shower made a mess and the tub was not big enough for two, but still very cool. The free breakfast buffet is wonderful, huge selection in a very nice airy room with a great view of the mercado del Puerto. The rooftop bar is very hip looking but it wasn't functioning that night, it was cold and there was no one up there. The pool looked really cool, but we didn't use it because it was very cold out. The neighborhood is very good for tourists especially during the day. At night we found nice places to go for drinks and dinner both recommended by the hotel staff and both were wonderful. Walking around at night can be a little sketchy maybe for a tourist. But during the day, mercado del Puerto is directly in front of the hotel with all of the interest and fun it entails. Only complaint, the pillows were very big and hard, but we still slept very comfortably.

I think this was a great hotel with a helpful staff. They had good amenities, were attentive etc. I really don't recommend this area of Montevideo, there were homeless people huffing, groups of guys eyeing you, plenty of stray dogs, etc. This area was okay in the day time and had some good restaurants. The market was a good place to have a snack and a beer with some boisterous locals if you choose the right booth, but overall I'd stay, stay in another area and visit in the day unless you like to sleep early. Again, nothing against this great little hotel, they do a great a job, but the area is lacking.

Ot hs 4 stars and it said on the reservation smoke free rooms but the smoke smell was unbearable, even the towels had the smell.
The sheets were clean but full of holes...
The breakfast was very poor as well.

Our stay was great! We were giving a free upgrade at check in which was amazing. The location was good for us, as it was right at the port where the boat came and so we didn't have to drag our luggage through town. Breakfast was great in the morning and the staff were extremely helpful. We would not hesitate to stay again.

Excellent! From the welcome drinks to the car they called to take us to the airport, our stay was absolutely perfect. Beautiful hotel in an ideal location near the port, restaurants, bike rentals, sight seeing, etc. Can't wait to come back! Montevideo was pure magic.

Lovely hotel with very helpful, friendly staff. Rooms quite cramped but nice. Just spoilt by the lads next door having a party until 4.30am but as we didn't complain the hotel staff wouldn't have been aware.
Great parilla opposite and shops nearby but not a safe area at night for me.

Perfect stay in a great location.

This is a very well located and maintained property. Everything the other's said is true - so I just wanted to point out an excellent breakfast and wifi, very convenient (although somewhat tight) parking and most of all great and very helpful staff - Flavio and Gonzalo made us feel very welcome (and they both speak great English - the fact not to be undervalued when traveling Uruguay (:)

We arrived in Montevideo by boat at 10 a.m. it was no problem with early check in. The staff was incredibly friendly. Welcomed us with a glass of shampain. Everybody speaks English. Minutes from the port. Hop on hop off bus stop and tickets are two minutes walk away. Great location, great interior design. Very clean and comfortable.

Good hotel in Ciudad Vieja

Great location to explore the old city. I stayed at the hotel for 2 night in April 2018. I arrived by ferry and walked to the hotel (it was not more than 10 minutes and the longest part was getting out of the port property and onto a regular street). Mercado Del Puerto is just outside the front door. There are plenty of shops around (groceries, souvenirs, etc.). Neighborhood was pretty quiet after dark.

Everything was very walkable (so bring comfortable shoes). It is a few blocks away from the rambla (riverside promenade) where you can take a lovely stroll along to water.

Room was average sized (not excessively large or unreasonably small) and the décor was modern. Storage/luggage space was limited.

The hotel serves a standard continental breakfast. It was a little late getting set up one morning. I only noticed this because I had an early departure for a tour that morning (it did not impact my tour departure but cut into my prep time before the tour)

The hotel allowed me to have an extra hour for check out on my last day (they start to charge for additional time after that). They also stored my luggage since my flight was not until the evening.
