The hotel is a great fit for business travelers and the cruise ship crowd. Very clean (attention to detail was big). Very good breakfast. It might be a bit fancy for leisure travelers. The gym is small and it is hard to lift weights because of lack of space. The big downside was the cost of laundry. We thought the price was in local currency and not USD. Paying $253 for what was 2 loads of laundry was the absolute most we've ever paid. (I've paid about $50 in the US for the same size and less in a lot of other countries).

I was expecting something a little bit more modern and updated and so my review is impacted by my impression that the hotel is due for a makeover. The electrical sockets were awkward and too few (so we needed to boil our water in the bathroom with the cord stretched over the sink) and the couch in our suite was old and a bit lumpy. We were asked to pay for our two pods of coffee each day which seemed odd to me, and a staff member eventually refunded the charges which I appreciate. We were given a 25% discount coupon to use in the hotel restaurant but it couldn't be used for our breakfast, which is the one meal we would have been able to eat at the hotel given our day trips. The hotel is in a lovely location, lots of nice restaurants close by, and back in the day I am certain it was a lovely and luxurious place to stay. It needs a nice update - and we felt safe and secure and overall it was a nice stay.

The hotel is located in an excellent area of Montevideo, Punta Carretas. Our room was clean and well appointed. The breakfast had a variety of excellent breads, fruit, and made to order eggs.
There were two things we really loved: their ebikes and the rooftop plunge pool. We rented the brand new bikes for 10USD for a full day. The hotel is right across from the rambla, which is a 20 km. cycling/walking path. The pool is small--more of a large hot tub--but is available to reserve privately each day for an hour at no extra charge.

A very nice hotel located on the rambla overlooking the ocean within short walking distance to shopping and restaurants. The staff is very professional and attentive! The breakfast is very nicely done with good variety-breads, cheese/meat; fresh fruits; juices; eggs to order; specialty coffees. Their afternoon tea is very good too although a bit pricey but worth it. Rooms are clean with adequate amenities and attentive cleaning staff. The only disappointment we had was no sun deck on the top floor. But there’s beach front and park across the street! Definitely will stay again!!!!

It was an amazing place with amazing staff and amazing location. The breakfast was also amazing. The corner suite was totally worth it. We borrowed the electric bikes and had a great time on the Rambla. We loved the citrus water in the lobby and the hot tub was very nice when we got a reservation.

Two things to know though, our bed was pretty firm. We ended up putting our comforter under us while we slept and that was ok. The swim pro hot tub didn’t quite work all the way either, but those were very minor complaints for a stay well worth the slight up charge.

The area around the hotel, with the ocean and the walking/biking path, is breathtaking. Front desk staff speaks good English, very helpful and accommodating as I changed rooms to get a love seat. Restaurant is excellent, 25 percent off for guests, waiter we kept getting was so pleasant (wish I got a name). Room was good, great view, Climate control a little strange, set the same across the hotel. Bring your own tissues. Good shower, comfortable bed. Lots of things available in the room to be charged for but not overly pricey. Enjoyed breakfast, different breads, eggs cooked to request. Didn't have a car, took Uber everywhere. Hotel is definitely recommended.

The staying at Cala Di Volpe Hotel Boutique was a pleasant experience, we stayed for 10 days, the only inconvenience was the fan/ extractor in the bathroom wasn’t working at the time of arrival and stayed like that for few days even after I bring it to the attention to the front desk.
However everything else was very nice, the room and the place in general was very clean. All the personnel, from manager,front desk,maids, breakfast/ restaurant personnel was very polite and attentive.

Beautiful property! They offer a lovely tea buffet. A little pricey but I really enjoyed it. Located right on the rambla overlooking the ocean (River) with easy walking or biking. Shopping mall within 5 minutes walk. The only downer for me was the traffic noise during the night and my room being located next to cleaning staff room. Overall, a great experience.

Rooms are spacious and clean. Water pressure is very strong. Bedding was multilayered which worked well for my husband and I since we prefer different temperature levels. The staff were friendly and informative. We also ordered room service and that was quick, competitively priced, and they went above and beyond to ensure my food allergy was avoided. The English to Spanish language barrier was no issue for us. Also you’ve got to check out the swim spa on the top floor and fitness center! 😍

Our stay was amazing, the hotel has a lovely view, we were in the 8th floor, corner suite, super comfy bed and room, breakfast was great, we borrowed the bikes and had a lovely ride along the rambla. The hotel is not central but we walked to the main attractions (it’s a long way though, get a taxi if you’re not up to it) the are is filled with restaurants and shops, there’s a big shopping centre two blocks away. Only problem that I had was in the restaurant at night, they gave me a salad with dressing when I asked (because of my health) no dressing and to bring olive oil for me to dress the salad... well it came with the dressing and one of the guys was very rude.
at the end they gave me a new salad.. but not in a nice way.

My sister and I stayed here for a couple of nights in late October and had an enjoyable stay. The hotel is located opposite the water, and is about an hour walk into the old town along the Rambla for most of it. The hotel does also have some bikes you can use for free for 2 hours which we took advantage of. It is very close to a shopping centre which has a large supermarket, and also several very nice restaurants (outside the shopping centre).

The hotel itself was clean and comfortable. The front desk staff weren't super friendly but that may due to lack of confidence speaking English as they seemed to engage quite well with those that could speak Spanish. They tried their best with their English. The breakfast offered by the hotel was good with lots of options, including being able to order eggs the way you like them. We also ate at the onsite restaurant our first night and it was good.

We did get the hotel to arrange airport transfers for us which were $45USD at the time, it seemed comparable to taxi prices that we had seen.

We would likely stay here again if visiting Montevideo

Great staff, great location

Got to Montevideo early and the staff was great by taking and holding our bags while we got something to eat out in town. They also gave us an early check in. The morning breakfast was amazing with fresh fruit and an assortment of meats. The hotel location is perfect, overlooking the Ocean and just a few blocks from the shopping center. I look forward to our next to Uruguay because we will definately stay there again.

Beware of hidden charges with Expedia!

Let's start with the good:

1) Staff were excellent. They really went out of their way to accommodate my family when we arrived for checking at 2am!

2) Cleanliness -- the rooms are clean, albeit small and dated

Now the bad...

1) hidden fees -- when I used Expedia for the search, I input 2 adults and 1 child. The room cost came out to something reasonable and I proceeded to reserve the room. But, when I checked the final price was nearly double what was shown!! It turns out that I was charged about the same rate for an \"extra person\", but Expedia never showed me the price before I reserved. Worst still, the cancellation policy would have charged me for cancellation. Had I known the true price, I never would have booked. I feel that Expedia was incompetent at best and extremely shady at worst.

2) Beds -- the room was for 2 twin beds! TWO... twin.... beds... despite having input 2 adults and 1 child. Originally the hotel wanted to charge for an extra bed, but after showing them the reservation and explaining the situation, the friendly staff moved us to a matrimonial bed and a mattress on the floor. While nice, that is hardly worth the \"extra person\" charge in my opinion!

Went there for 3 nights on October, business trip, the hotel is located in a very nice area of the city. There are restaurants and a shopping mall at walking distance from it. I think that most of the rooms have a view to the river. Their breakfast is good, and the personnel is very helpful and attentive.
The A/C worked fine, is not a new hotel, but is well kept and clean.
There is some traffic in the area as the rambla is the commute road for lots of people, but not crazy.

We had six days staying at the Cala de volpe hotel, whilst getting to know Montevide.
The hotel overlooks a beach on the River Plate. We caught the bus into the city 30 pesos each for any local trip,bus stops close to the hotel.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful, and sorted out any requests quickly and efficiently.
The desk staff all speak some English,and some fluently.
They even stored a bag for two weeks while we travelled around uruguay, without charging.
The buffet breakfast was excellent, the best we had anywhere on our three week stay, and the dining room staff very efficient. Rooms also very clean, and staff in that department always willing to get extra towels etc. The gym and hot tub is on the roof area and again very clean with extra towels and fruit.
We recommend this hotel highly for a holiday in montivideo.

If you dont mind being out of the central city, this is a good choice. We were conflicted about which option to choose - town or Rambla-, but were not unhappy with Cala de Volpe. You can take the slow 121 bus into town - but Montevideo is muy tranquilo, there´s not much to do really, so a long bus ride is actually a way to relax further and see the town. The hotel has good restaurants and a shopping centre nearby. Walks on the Rambla are nice. 30 minutes will take you to the big Montevideo sign where all the tourists get their photos taken. Breakfast was typical of Uruguay, uninspired and pretty basic, but the dining room of the hotel is beautiful and many people got afternoon tea and dinner there and seemed happy (we only had breakfast). Rooms are nice, clean, beds very comfortable, all quiet. We had a good view of the river from our room (which was the basic, and perfectly adequate, one)

Ridiculously overcharges for services

We were ridiculously overcharged for laundry services and they were very shady about it. Although everything else is charged in Uruguayan pesos, the laundry is charged in US dollars and they are not very clear in informing us of that. If we had been made aware of this fact, we definitely would not have use their laundry services, which means that we would have had to go to a laundromat which certainly isn't what you want to do on vacation. At checkout, they charged an extra $50 for some unclear reason. Other than that, the service was good for the most part except for one or two not-so-friendly front-desk clerks. The restaurant and it's employees were nice, as well as the breakfast buffet. The room was clean and spacious. Although there were positives to staying here, I would not stay here again, nor would I recommend it to anybody else.

This was our second stay at this hotel. However, this time had a bad experience with the deluxe room booked. The room thermostat was not working and it was extremely warm, the bathroom shower was not working properly, the bathroom lights were not working in the morning, engineering said a power tool blew up the circuits, if they knew as they said, they should have notified in advance. I complaint about a drilling noise both days and they said unfortunately nothing they could do to control. We could not make it to breakfast due to these issues, we order lunch, and the waiter forgot to place in my partners order, asked for some sliced ham and bread and we were charged. I find their restaurant prices overcharged compared to nearby locations.

Construction at 3:00 AM??

This is a good hotel. The problem is they were doing reconstruction work of their restaurant at 3:00 AM. The noise was not something you could sleep through. One has to wonder what in the world the management was thinking. The staff was also unequipped to handle the situation, first saying there was no noise, then saying it was next door, and finally admitting to the problem. No apologies received from management. All hard to imagine. Otherwise, it is a great hotel, with a good location, good facility, and good service (except they do not know how to handle an embarrassing situation).

OK but cramped and on a very busy road

Small hotel which is very popular with local people i.e. tends to be very busy. Bar/restaurant staff very helpful and polite. The rooms on the front of the hotel are right on the busiest road in the city. One where hotted up car and motorcycles like to race late at night.

First class in every way!

One of the best hotels I've ever stayed at. An incredible bargain. Wonderful location on the water. Great included breakfast. Restaurant exceeded my expectations. Staff went out of their way to be helpful. This is the place to stay in Montevideo! FYI I'm almost never this enthusiastic. I travel a lot and am rather demanding.

Great visit to Montevideo

Good boutique hotel in a great location, executive suite worth the price for the fantastic patio overlooking the rambla. Staff is very friendly and speaks perfect English.
