We have stayed at Taipei's First Hotel for over 25 years. It is very centrally located and convenient. A subway stop is 2 blocks away. The Deluxe rooms are good value for the price. They are spacious, comfortable and clean. The staff is friendly and welcoming. We continue to choose this hotel for our stays in Taipei.

Before COVID we stayed at the First Hotel frequently on our trips from North America to visit my wife's family in Taipei. This is our first trip back since COVID and we have selected First Hotel again. It is very centrally located and away from all the tourist areas. There are many bus routes going east and west along Nanjing Dong Lu just steps outside the hotel's front door. There is a major subway junction just down the street. The rooms are spacious and the staff is terrific. There is a modest breakfast offered in the basement restaurant that comes with the room. The value for the money is outstanding.

Great stay, room for improvement

Very reputable hotel, great location and amenities. Close to the MRT and transit system. Breakfast has great choices and I especially loved the hot Soy Milk at the breakfast buffet.

Room for improvement were the cleanliness conditions as there were issues we encountered with insects. Cleanliness improved over the course of our week.

No laundry facilities on site but there are coin laundromats within 7-9mins walking.

Your experience will depend greatly on the specific room that you are given. Better view rooms to customers who pay a little more. My brother and I checked into First Hotel on the same day. He prepaid his reservation on Expedia while I opted to pay at the site upon check in, which cost probably $8 more per day.

He was given room 420, I was given room 411. My room appeared to be brighter, bigger and had a nicer view. 420 seemed smaller, darker and had a view of another building.

My room had black square insect traps in each corner, but I figured that might be something they do in all rooms. I've lived in Taiwan before in the past and remember cockroaches being a concern. I thought the insect traps were preventative in each room.

However, throughout the night, I would notice a cockroach around the bathroom area crawling around the trap. Then a few hours later, there were three cockroaches racing around, and a random ant also. I was pretty grossed out but too tired to switch rooms, especially if all the rooms would be the same. So I slept with the lights on that night, hoping that the insects would be less likely to come out.

Next morning, I went downstairs and told the hotel employee. He quickly apologized and said they would switch rooms for me. A few hours later, I was given room 712. It had a nice view and I immediately noticed there were no insect traps in the room at all. Much better experience there than on the 4th floor.

Breakfast was decent.

It is horrible

It is the worst experience during my Taiwan trip. Here are the reasons:

1) The room is small and the furniture is dated
2) The varieties of breakfast buffet is very limited, and there are cockroaches on the dinning table!!!!!!
3) The gym is closed because the room is too hot to use (Located on the top floor)
4) The air-conditioning is broken down, so the inside is actually warmer than outside, and you are not allowed to open the window.
5) The computer in the business center is very slow..
6) The currency exchange service is no longer available.

Good budget hotel, but you get what you pay for.

Looks like a very old hotel, looking at the conditions of the room. Smelled quite musty when I first arrived, but I was looking for budget, so it wasn't too bad. The air conditioner worked great, the bed was comfy and clean. There's a decent shower. The staff is very friendly. The buffet is decent, good for a budget (skip it otherwise).

I didn't like the neighborhood. Not many restaurants it seemed, so had to walk to neighboring stations. Construction was right next door which starts early in the morning. One concern was the sign on the desk that asked for valuables to be kept in a safety box at the front desk. Does that mean your cleaning staff has sticky fingers? I kept the do not disturb sign on the door in case.

Old, noisy and not comforting

I never give a bad rating, but this hotel is pretty awful. The staff is pretty nice and speaks decent English, but it doesn't make up for how bad this hotel is. The rooms are outdated with everything in it being probably 30 years old or so. The bed is hars as a rock. The rooms are pretty dirty with left over hair from who knows who. The walls are super thin so you hear noise throughout the night. The neighborhood is safe and centrally located, but nobody speaks English at pretty much any of the surrounding restaurants and shops. I was only here because of work, but would not want to stay here again. The fitness center is a joke with no AC and litteraly one treadmill and 1 bike that really don't work and are probably from the 90s. The breakfast included is pretty decent, but for the over priced room it doesn't make up for it. For how cheap food and everything is in Taipei this hotel should be about $29 a night. It is a joke this is listed as as 3-3.5 star hotel. I gave it 2 overal only because of the staff being pretty friendly for the most part and the location being well located and safe.

The reason we stayed this hotel for 15 nights, due to my daughter had to stay this hotel for training class as an English teaching program with HESS, then this hotel's staffs were very helpful and friendly, therefore we stayed more nights after the training program. This is a 3 star hotel, at the very last time I had the free breakfast, I saw the hotel manager was at the breakfast area, she was checking the food service, I was going to approaching her to let her know about the breakfast menu, then I realized most of the customers they probably would like their food, but to western people or people like us(living USA more than 30 years, this kind of breakfast was not international enough.

Large hotel catering to tour groups

A larger hotel in central Taipei so be prepared to share it with many tour groups. There wasn't really a standout feature of this hotel other than the low price. Comfort-wise, it is an older hotel. I paid a little extra for an executive deluxe room but I'm pretty sure I got whatever their standard room is, which is to say it was very small; also the floor had a strange uneven divot under the carpet. The best thing that I can say about my stay is the bathroom was clean and practical, albeit small. The staff was helpful although not very friendly. The breakfast was okay but could have been better. If I had to do over again, I would pay a little more and stay at one or two of the other boutique hotels within a few blocks.

Luckily we only stayed for 1 night, check-in at 1:30am, and checked-out before 10am.
To be fair: the hotel's location is good. If that is what you are after.

Young Professional Weekend Stay

The hotel room is nothing bigger than a walk-in closet. The room has a very unpleasant odor... The internet is crazy slow. The breakfast is terrible. I do not recommend booking this hotel. There are better hotels with same/cheaper rates, but still in a great location. Overall, this hotel is just too old.

Not worth for stay

Staffs in hotel were all unfriendly, question you in a harsh tone like as if you are a trespasser in the lobby. No greetings and extremely rude to the extend that it spoils the image of people in Taiwan! Morning breakfast were lousy, food taste is horrible! The room is very small to the extend that there is no space to place 2 person luggage on the floor to retrieve stuffs in the luggage.. I have changed 3 hotels for this around-the-island trip and this is the worst hotel ever. Suffering from Post-purchase dissonance.

too old, too noisy and too dirty.

you can hear the arguments of the next room so loud that sleep is being interrupted badly.
Also, the next room's telephone ringing every 5 minutes at 5~6 am, I believe it is waking up call which the guests have already left, made the sleep impossible. The phone is as loud as like in my room.
Corridor is piled up with unused chairs, cleaning equipment, no body knows there are rooms down the hall way.
The hotel made the trip terrible, I will never set my foot on this one anymore.
The breakfast hall is not that neat, the luncheon mats are disgustingly dirty.

Simple rooms; Good location

Room with double bed was relatively small and equiped with only basic stuff. Bathroom is small (similar to the size of small bathrooms in Japan). Breakfast is very much basic. Room with two twin beds was bigger and also equped in the same level. Main advantage is the location.

The walls are not very sound proof - you can hear some one sneeze frome some where outside the room. The carpet in the hall way is old and not very clean. The bed is extremely hard with hardly any padding at all. Otherwise, the room is clean, the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful and the location is quite convenient and close to the Taipei train station.

The hotel was easy to find. the room has essential amenities but clean and very spacious. More than enough space for the 3 of us. For the price I paid and the short walking distance to the subway station, I can only say it is very good value for money. Breakfast was simple but still acceptable. I will go back to the hotel when I visit Taipei again.

COMFORTABLE

I have booked the executive twin room. The bed is big and the bath room is big too. Two bath places in the bath room. One is bath tub and is shower. It is very comfortable staying in the first hotel.

Improved location with new subway line

The hotel is dated, but it offers clean room and great location. The lobby offers current exchange, it may not match the publish rate, but the difference can be easily offset by the 24-hour and no-commission service

The simple breakfast menu is not great, but the freshly made egg on grill does the job.

I encounter two large groups of tourists that filled the dinning hall. Since they were on a fixed schedule, they cleared out the dining hall in 30 minutes.

The hotel looks nice in the picture during booking but in actual is a very old building and outdated facilities. Toilet is rather dirty and you need to wait for sometime for the hot water
Service at the hotel is quite poor, nobody even bother when you are walking in or out of the hotel.
But is about 5 mins from the train station, that's the only advantage

Helpful Staff and Spacious Room

Came to Taipei for 8 nights with 2 other friends for pleasure. We took the Free Go Airport Bus from the airport, and just so happened a stop was right in front of the hotel!

Upon entrance, we were greeted by friendly staff that informed us of 3pm check-in, and we could leave the luggage with the bell boy. The hotel had 3 or 4 attached restaurants. Breakfast tickets were included in the reservation, but we only used that once since the hotel was in the midst of restaurants.

To fit 3 people, we were placed in a suite with an additional bed in the living area. Even just the room was much bigger than the one I got last year at another hotel. Housekeeping staff changed linens, filled toiletries, and added bottles of water every day.

Avoid 1st Hotel in Taipei

It took the front desk receptionist a long time to locate our reservation because she had to look up a long hand-written list. The front desk and business center staff are poorly trained. I used the computer in the business center to check in with the airlines.I was not informed when I walked in to use the computer that these was a charge. Nor was there any sign re charges. I was harassed to pay after I turn the computer off.

We found several cockroaches crawling in our room.

I would not recommend anyone to stay in this hotel.

30年前にすでに古いホテルだった記憶があり、築何年なんだろう？という感じ。廊下はすこし忍者屋敷のようだ。
すごい部屋数があるので奥の部屋までドキドキして進みました😆　
部屋は昔の時代に作られただけあって、とても広く、電気配線も贅沢で、ベッドの横のボタンで調整できる
ドアノブや、浴室の設備は少し錆びていたり壁紙が少し剥がれていたり、経年劣化がかなりあるので、そこはレトロ感があって良いと割り切れる方はおすすめ。意外と良く寝られた。立地は最高で、どこにでも行きやすい。
またチェック12時も魅力的。

建物は古く、鍵もカードキーでは無いです。　エレベーターもガタガタしてちょっと不安有り。　部屋はそれなりで、静かでまあまあ快適でしたが、シャワーホースが外れたのには焦りました、自分で取付ましたが。朝食も悪く有りません、総合的に価格相応でした。
