This was a nice hotel, and the balcony we paid extra for was enormous. The staff were all super friendly and when we asked for some ice and a sewing kit they arrived promptly with no quibbles. The location was on the edge of the tourist area which meant we could easily access attractions on foot but it was quiet at night. However taxis found our location tricky to reach because of the one-way streets. We were rising late because we were attending the Primavera Sound festival and everything was quiet in the mornings.
Small improvements: an umbrella/shade on the balcony. A higher clip to hold the waist- high shower head if you didnt want to use the overhead rain shower (so your hair doesn’t get wet)

Hotel organised taxi was a great start.
Location was great once we realised we were so close to main shopping street.
Hotel breakfast and evening food was very good.
Hotel was well designed with relaxed smart appearance.
We booked a room with outside space to relax but Hotel garden was so good it was not used.
Room was short of wardrobe space for us traveling for 10 days and wanting to unpack for the 3 days in Porto at start of holiday.
Staff all very professional but friendly with it and happy to duscuss Porto.
Gym was good and pool nice and unexpectely relaxing space.

The hotel was nice. The pool area had a spa feel to it. We wound up having 2 rooms - one was a very odd layout but the other made more sense.

There were some environmental factors that knocked this down a star for me. There was a homeless man who lived at the end of the block who had others over to drink most nights. It’s not the fault of the hotel but just left me feeling a bit uncomfortable coming and going.

We were there while the weather was warm so the pool area being inside and so humid wasn’t ideal. I think if you are there for the much longer rainy season, though, it would be perfect.

We had a very pleasant stay at BessaHotel. The location is excellent: right in the city center, within walking distance of the main attractions, yet surprisingly quiet and not busy or noisy at all.

The hotel is modern, clean, and well maintained. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We also appreciated the modern room design, including the TV integrated into the mirror, which was a nice touch.

The main downside was the bathroom layout. The toilet and shower are in separate rooms, while the sink is located in the main room area. This can be quite inconvenient when two people are sharing the room. If one person wants to use the toilet or wash their hands during the night, the lights can easily disturb the other person who is sleeping.

Overall, a very good hotel with a great location, modern facilities, and friendly staff.

Friendly and helpful staff, clean room, and close to the market.

The location was a bit on the shadier side of town, though we didn't encounter any trouble.

The room was a bit too avant-garde for a family staying with an adult child -- no walls between the bedroom and bathroom (though thank goodness for the doors to the showers and toilet), and the wardrobe sat on top of the area to use the electric kettle.

We liked having the gym and pool but the pool area got very dark in the evening and wasn't too inviting.

I recommend this hotel and found it deserved a five-star rating. This hotel is centrally located near Rua de Santa Catarina. The hotel itself is quite new, modern and stylish. From check-in to check-out all the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Most staff spoke some English. At check-in we were given flyers for day trips and tours. The breakfast buffet was good and we also had food and drinks at the bar and everything was very well prepared. The housekeeping was thorough and done well every day. Our room had a Nespresso machine, and a mini-bar with water, soft drinks and juice. Overall, this hotel surpassed my expectations and we would definitely stay here again. Amenities and the rooms were great! We enjoyed the breakfast as well. Check-in was not very smooth. I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a pleasant experience, though there were a few areas that could be improved.

• Service: There was an issue with the plug in my room, but it was resolved quickly and efficiently by the staff.
• Facilities: The pool and sauna were highlights of my stay. The pool area was a lovely space to relax and unwind, and the sauna added a nice touch to the overall experience.
• Amenities: One downside was the lack of hair conditioner in the room. I was surprised to learn that management doesn’t provide this at all, which felt unusual and inconvenient, especially for a hotel of this standard. I had to purchase my own during the stay.
• Room: The room itself was comfortable, but the lighting was quite dim. This made getting ready—particularly doing makeup—a bit challenging. Brighter or adjustable lighting would make a big difference.
• Late Check‑Out: I appreciated that the hotel accommodated my request for a late check‑out. However, the fee charged was almost the same as the nightly rate, which felt excessive and diminished the goodwill of the gesture.
• Location: The hotel’s location was excellent—right in the town, making it easy to explore and enjoy the local area.

Overall: A good stay with excellent facilities, a great location, and responsive staff, but small details like room lighting, basic amenities (such as conditioner), and more reasonable late check‑out pricing would make the experienc

Everything was excellent, from the airport transfer (supplier nominated by the hotel), the check-in process, the design and decor of the room and common areas, right through to breakfast choices. The team were professional, courteous and extremely helpful, and spoke excellent English. I was so happy that I could open my room window - it makes it easier to sleep. The hotel is conveniently located for the north-eastern side of the city centre, an easy walk to Rua de Santa Catarina and the Mercado do Bolhão and the Bolhão metro station is less than 5 minutes walk away.
There is a small gym and a pool in the basement, and the facilities overall were very good.

Staff were all very professional and kind, full of helpful tips, and willing answer all of our questions since it was our first day in Portugal. Rooms were aesthetically pleasing, very clean, well stocked. Indoor pool was refreshing after a day out in the Douro Valley. The WiFi was smooth. Hotel breakfast was delicious and fresh with fruit, veg, European and American options. The staff even helped us find a doctor when our daughter was sick. Highly recommend BessaHotel Baixa!
