Very cool rooms with TV in the mirror. The hotel is located very close to Bolhão Market and metro station and the main shopping street Via Caterina. The pool and spa are amazing after a busy day of sightseeing.

I recommend this hotel and found it deserved a five-star rating. This hotel is centrally located near Rua de Santa Catarina. The hotel itself is quite new, modern and stylish. From check-in to check-out all the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Most staff spoke some English. At check-in we were given flyers for day trips and tours. The breakfast buffet was good and we also had food and drinks at the bar and everything was very well prepared. The housekeeping was thorough and done well every day. Our room had a Nespresso machine, and a mini-bar with water, soft drinks and juice. Overall, this hotel surpassed my expectations and we would definitely stay here again. Thank you to all the staff at the BessaHotel Baixa!!

Amenities and the rooms were great! We enjoyed the breakfast as well. Check-in was not very smooth. The staff should check reservations before speaking, there was some confusion with our booking, it all worked out but added unnecessary stress during check in. They told us we did not book the right amount of rooms when we indeed did.

I recently stayed at this hotel and overall had a pleasant experience, though there were a few areas that could be improved.

• Service: There was an issue with the plug in my room, but it was resolved quickly and efficiently by the staff.
• Facilities: The pool and sauna were highlights of my stay. The pool area was a lovely space to relax and unwind, and the sauna added a nice touch to the overall experience.
• Amenities: One downside was the lack of hair conditioner in the room. I was surprised to learn that management doesn’t provide this at all, which felt unusual and inconvenient, especially for a hotel of this standard. I had to purchase my own during the stay.
• Room: The room itself was comfortable, but the lighting was quite dim. This made getting ready—particularly doing makeup—a bit challenging. Brighter or adjustable lighting would make a big difference.
• Late Check‑Out: I appreciated that the hotel accommodated my request for a late check‑out. However, the fee charged was almost the same as the nightly rate, which felt excessive and diminished the goodwill of the gesture.
• Location: The hotel’s location was excellent—right in the town, making it easy to explore and enjoy the local area.

A great hotel with excellent staff

Everything was excellent, from the airport transfer (supplier nominated by the hotel), the check-in process, the design and decor of the room and common areas, right through to breakfast choices. The team were professional, courteous and extremely helpful, and spoke excellent English. I was so happy that I could open my room window - it makes it easier to sleep. The hotel is conveniently located for the north-eastern side of the city centre, an easy walk to Rua de Santa Catarina and the Mercado do Bolhão and the Bolhão metro station is less than 5 minutes walk away.
There is a small gym and a pool in the basement, and the facilities overall were very good.

The rooms are very cool, clean and modern with excellent storage. The staff was very helpful and friendly throughout our stay and the location is excellent, especially if you want to be close to some of the busier areas but away from the noise. You can walk just about anyplace you'd like to see in 15 minutes or less.

What a lovely place! Great location, close to the Mercado do Bolhao, but in a quiet area. Easy to do a walking tour from here. Staff were all very professional and kind, full of helpful tips, and willing answer all of our questions since it was our first day in Portugal. Rooms were aesthetically pleasing, very clean, well stocked. Indoor pool was refreshing after a day out in the Douro Valley. The WiFi was smooth. Hotel breakfast was delicious and fresh with fruit, veg, European and American options. The staff even helped us find a doctor when our daughter was sick. Highly recommend BessaHotel Baixa! Can’t wait to come back in the future.

The amenities, food and staff were all exemplary. During the power crisis, the hotel went into overdrive and did an extremely good job. They can be justifiably proud of themselves. Thank you.

Make no mistake this is a luxury hotel. The staff were absolutely wonderful; attentive, professional, friendly and polite at all times. It was evident that much time, money and consideration had been given to the the design and decoration of the both the rooms and the common areas which felt contemporary and stylish.
The restaurant was exceptionally good, the best hotel restaurant I have eaten in by a long way. The menu wasn't too large, which is a very good sign, but the food was outstanding.
I have no hesitation to highly recommend BessaHotel Baixa and I would love to stay there again.

Staff are very nice and accommodating. They helped me with my Portuguese and knew what I wanted each morning. Additionally I developed a tooth ache and they got me a dentist who spoke English 15 minutes later. The following day they checked up on me! I recommend them highly!

It was my sisters birthday weekend trip and this hotel was a diamond in the rough. We could not have expected such beautiful finishes in every area of the hotel. Very impressed. And the staff at reception could not have been more helpful. The young man at reception took us through the activities available, sightseeing trips, best shopping areas and places of interest.

One unusual attraction are three lovely young black cats who have adopted the courtyard of the hotel. the staff have had them given their injections and they are looking sleek and plump

The room was clean and tidy. However, the layout and practicality of the room was a little bit of an inconvenience.
Wardrobe hangers were available, but you couldn't move them anywhere where the air is flowing, as they were fixed to one location (Hostile architecture). We couldn't hang our jackets to dry after getting soaked from the rain.

This is a great leisure hotel. Staff are excellent - I cannot flaw their approach. The hotel decor is great. The room was very good - love the mirror that turns into a TV. Bed very comfortable. Good AC. For a hotel, the restaurant is excellent. No rip off pricing at the bar. Negatives - if I had been travelling on business and needed to work from my room - there is no desk or similar - the sink seems to have a fixed open plug. Very minor - A really good hotel, well situated, exemplary staff service and really quite lovely. Porto is also a great city to visit!

We loved BessaHotel Baixa! The common areas - front lobby; breakfast buffet and dining room, and; back garden are all gorgeous. The breakfast buffet has plenty of options and everything is very fresh. The staff are very friendly and there to help you with directions and suggestions for places to see and dine at. It's close to many of the charming neighbourhoods of Porto and about a 20 minute walk down to the water (where the nightlife, views and dining are wonderful!). Highly recommend.

This property was listed as 5 *it was beautiful but the staff let it down and there seemed to be no one in charge and no communication ? We arrived at 2pm and were told we were not allowed to check in until 4 ..but if we used the pool someone would come and get us if they cleaned the room quicker …I’d still be waiting if I relied upon them ! At 430 we went back to enquire if the room might be ready ? Different staff on now and equally miserable and seemed suprised we hadn’t been given our room ? A great room but no fridge and a coffee machine with dirty pods in …and bathroom scales that didn’t work ! After driving from London 6 days previously we were getting into how hotels treat guests! The staff on the supposed snack bar had no menu or price lists and only 3 items which were relayed back ..2 burgers with crisps and spicy prawns On a plus the breakfast was great and overall it has the potential to be amazing …I run a business myself with 28 staff and my friend works in finance ….we could see how much better it could be!

Seven Night Leisure Stay In Late May 2023

A clean, comfortable and convenient hotel well located for transfer to and from the airport by Metro, and accessing central Porto by foot and further afield by bus and Metro. Bed and waterfall shower were excellent, and extensive buffet breakfast was more than adequate for a day on the town. If staying for a reasonable period of time ensure you are given a room with suitable wardrobe space. The first room we were given hadn't and the second room suffered from construction noise from work next door, but fortunately usually when we were out sightseeing.

A perfect stay

A beautiful stay. The hotel feels luxurious and the staff are very friendly and fix issues very quickly (we had a broken key door and the room was immediately exchanged!) It is walking distance from the city centre and on a quiet road. I could not recommend highly enough!

Lovely hotel and staff. Decor was absolutely gorgeous, breakfast was a good selection and tasted good. Spa was very pretty. Great distance from metro station and bus stops so very accessible. If more of a taxi person, the hotel is central enough that taxis are very affordable…walking can also be an option if you don’t mind hills. My only cons would be there isn’t much storage space to neatly unpack clothes out of sight and I could have done with more plug sockets but it was a single room so larger rooms may be better on those fronts. Would come back and stay at this hotel!!
