This place is really special - it's a good experience, the staff is so nice, the restaurant is on site, and there are animals to visit. With all that said, the room itself was pretty shabby. The beds were wildly uncomfortable , the blankets had other people's hair embedded in it, and the cars/rooms are just run down. We were sad to leave the place in general but not the room itself.

The staff is so kind and amazing and the gift shop is filled with so really cute souvenirs. I was staying in the bridal caboose and was disappointed by the state it was in. There was dust all long the wood work behind the whirlpool tub and the high points of the ceiling. Not just a little dust but enough you could tell it had been accumulating over a significant period of time. There was a water damage on the ceiling where the flat part of the caboose roof met the dome the roof directly over the bed. The breadboard was bubbling out in areas from moisture damage. I was so excited to stay on my trip to Lancaster and was broken hearted when I saw the state of my room. I liked the setting enough that I would give the place one more try, but I would definitely pick another caboose.

I was assigned to the Chessie Caboose for this stay. Comfortable interior with the usual amenities of wireless internet, mini fridge and microwave...flat screen cable TV. This room had two wall unit A/C- heating units and the units kept the room warm on a chilly night.
I dined at the on-site Casey Jones Restaurant for dinner and the meal was tasty and service was prompt and courteous.
To sum up, a pleasant stay as usual and I will return soon for another stay

This is such a cute place to stay, it was our first time here but we already have plans to go back. The caboose rooms are adorable, very clean & comfortable with parking right out front of each individual train car. Staff was super friendly & helpful, you can tell they really enjoy working there. The weather wasn't great so we missed out on the petting zoo & buggy rides, definitely looking forward to both next time.

The check in and staff is wonderful, the convenience of having so much to do around like the horse carriage on site makes the experience different. The only thing, is during winter they should winterized the caboons better, and deep clean the carpets. They do give you a room warmer, and you can control the thermostat. Most is just covering holes where the cold air comes in. Like air-conditioning.

This is a unique place, lodging is in 43 re-claimed rail cars, mainly cabooses. As such, it is very well maintained and designed to capture the atmosphere of a bygone era that many people might have thought of only in their fantasies. It's designed for families with young kids to capture elements that they will make memories from, it's not a luxury resort for adults, so don't expect that. They work hard to make a nice place and allow kids,and parents to see and experience things they would never otherwise have an opportunity to know.

Biggest issue was that the bathroom baseboard heater didn’t work, so the floors were frozen cold. The bathroom drain had a bunch of caulk around it you could tell the bathroom was older and heavily used. Lots of rust and the whole caboose was leaning to the left so you felt weird when walking in it and felt like you were going to fall out of bed. The Amish horses were clip clopping early in the morning and late at night and the train blows its horn and comes through right near there around 7am, those seem to wake you up early. They need to be remodeled, the quality of materials in them are equivalent to a 1980s trailer. Only 2 towels and washcloths for a family of 5, just doesn’t cut it. Also it has a tiny little hot water heater that so only one person gets a warm shower then you have to wait 2 hours for it to heat back up. The queen bed slept fine like a heavily used standard firm bed.

The place was very adorable but rooms were very dated & worn. The door seal was completely gone put a towel down to try to stop the draft. Everyone was very friendly & helpful. Location was the best the train ran right in front of the motel. There is a museum right behind you can just walk to.

The restaurant served large portions, The gift shop was well stocked with something for everybody. The animals at the petting zoo were friendly and very willing to eat, so bring quarters. We will definitely come back the next time we are in Lancaster County.

The property is a bit dated but very unique. My daughter and grandkids have been staying there for the last three years when they visit and she loves the privacy and quiet the place affords. (No worries about noise from other rooms or her kids disturbing other guests if they’re noisy). On-site restaurant and buggy rides are a plus. Parking right in front of your room (train car). Convenient to plenty of restaurants, attractions and shopping.

The biggest let down (which the photos are accurate about but stll) was the lack of interior decor. There is neither \"choo-choo train\" kitsch nor old rail line maps or paraphernalia. No in-room safe. Also the front door didn't have a keyed deadbolt which seemed odd. We weren't concerned for safety, but as the site doesn't have controlled access it was odd.
The room was quite clean, just basic and in some cases worn.
But, as far as hotels go, I'd have to rate it on the lower end of the scale, 2.5 stars.

Property is so unique with over 40 railroad cabooses. Was fun staying in one. My sister and I had plenty of room and loved the way it was laid out giving each of us some privacy. Had a frig,microwave, and coffee maker everything we needed and it was very clean. Staff was very welcoming also. Would definitely stay here again.

The breakfast is delicious at Casey Jones. Sonis their supper. Eat there everytime I go to PA. The caboose we stayed in was immaculately clean. The bed was comfortable. 1 thing...it got cold while we were there so we turned the heat on. The bathroom never got warm. Amd it wld be great to have some hooks in the bathroom to hang the towels up. But I am not complaining, just suggesting. Everyone ought to experience it. Just so cute!

Such a cute and unique experience! I highly recommend staying here especially families with children. There's a few animals on the property you can take a look at and feeding machine to dispense food. The inside it's cute but tight. We had a large family caboose but only 4 people and thought it was the perfect amount of room. I can't imagine another 2 people in it.
I only gave 4 stars because the beds were extremely uncomfortable. The mattresses were very very firm to the point where we had to buy a mattress topper for the second night. My husband who likes firm mattresses didn't even like it.

This place is SO CUTE! Very charming and unexpected! We had to travel to the area for a wedding and found this place for the night before. After a very long and rainy drive from Michigan we were so excited when we arrived! The ONLY criticism I would give is the mini split AC in the bunk room had a very bright light on it and wouldn’t turn off, so we didn’t sleep much. But the charm, unique design, yummy restaurant, and gift shop made up for it. Wish we could’ve stayed longer!

This was our second time staying at The Red Caboose and we just love it. Its beautifully maintained, family friendly, and allows us time to \"turn off\". It is in a prime location making it easy to get anywhere in and around Lancaster. Last year we stayed in the Mail Car and this year we stayed in the Large Family Suite. It was a great option for us as we have a 14 year old and a 2 year old. It gave us all the space we needed and we LOVED the porch. Because of the Red Caboose, we made our original Lancaster trip an annual occurrence.
