My granddaughter, grandson and I loved the fact that our accommodations were in a train caboose. The train car was actually on railroad tracks!! The interior was very clean and well maintained. The grounds were clean. The staff were very friendly. We went on an Amish buggy tour which was very enjoyable. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at Casey Jones which is on the grounds. The food was delicious. I loved the half rack of ribs. Their sauce was fantastic!!We parked right in front of our caboose. I plan to return in the near future.

This motel was great! The car is well maintained. It is not huge, but that was expected seeing as it is a train car. The property is beautiful. The motel is between two fields with incredible sunrises and sunsets. The old-fashioned locomotive runs during the day, which is amazing to see for the kids. It does not run at night so it is not waking you up. The property offers buggy rides to purchase. They have little goats, alpacas and a miniature horse that you can feed and are incredibly friendly. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. They called to make sure I didn’t need anything when I first checked in before the office closed. They are the same staff that run the restaurant. The restaurant is great and the prices are reasonable. I will definitely be staying here again. The next time I am in the area.

The motel is very much like an old time motel, except many of the rooms are in an old railroad car/caboose. This is great for kids or adults who are into trains. Since the rooms are old railroad cars, its hard to have all the amenities of a modern hotel. But for the railfan, this is a great place to stay.

There is a petting zoo right on the property which is free. You only need to use change to get food out the feeder to feed the animals. You can see and hear the vintage steam engine train everyday about 3x a day pass in front of the hotel. Just a really fun, relaxing, and enjoyable time!

Caboose is a bit dated but we knew that from the photos prior to booking. Everything was clean and was a fun experience when visiting train town. It was raining the whole time so didn’t get to walk around or get a buggy ride.

Super fun theming and atmosphere! Definitely a unique experience. The only downside I would say is be careful what you are booking. A \"couples caboose\" is only half of a caboose and very tight to where one person has to move to let the other person be able to walk by. The pictures on the website don't tell you which caboose they go with and you don't know which one you're getting until you check in. Otherwise it was neat and I loved having the Strasburg railroad go right past!

The place is a unique experience set in beautiful PA Amish farmland, however it is extremely noisy when sleeping and you hear everything. I am glad we booked for one night. The staff and place itself was amazing!!!!

No ammeneties, rooms were nice, Rooms were not very quiet as I could hear the people in the other part of the train come in and talk/cry and snore. :( we had the two room mail car that apparently had another room on the other end. The staff was great at the resturant were very nice but they needed more than one waitress. We had a fairly long wait. Good thing we had family to talk to that we had not seen in awhile. Warning the caboose couples room is fairly small if you are going to stay long you might want a bigger room. Parking was excellent.

Desk staff was very polite and explained everything and then called a short while later to see if we needed anything. Loved the stay, the petting zoo and buggy rides all on site. Highly recommend.

It is a once in a lifetime experience. Lots of stuff to do there besides the Railroad museum. Wish they would upgrade the linens there. Caboose we stayed in ok. There was a birds nest on top of the air conditioner. Food at the resteraunt was good. This is a nice spot if your kid is into trains. Staff was excellent. Wish they would upgrade the cabooses and make the insides feel a little bit more modern. Start with new flat screen TVs. Brighter more modern tone paints for inside the cabooses. Overall I had a good time and will probably come again.

The check-in staff at the front desk Christine was not very helpful at all. My husband spilled coffee down his shirt and we had tickets to see a show at Sight & Sound at 3:00 p.m. we asked her if we can get into our room a little earlier she told the snow because it was not ready however, we spoke to another woman in housekeeping and she said the room was ready and also we were then told by Christine that all the rooms were ready by 1:00 p.m. we wanted to get in the room between 2:00 and 2:30 p.m. and was not allowed I was even willing to pay extra just so my husband can change his shirt and clean up a little bit. I think the hotel itself is Awesome with a great concept and very clean. It's a shame that you have staff that won't even budge a little to accommodate when she could have and also lied to us.

Only condition I did not rate this a five star stay was the nights sleep. There was a clunking sound which we thought was from a pump somewhere.
On a morning investigation we found that there was an actuator under our caboose which activating red signal lights outside. Mentioned to desk clerk that the actuator should be put on a timer so it shuts off at night they mentioned that they would pass this complaint to the owner

My first stay at The Red Caboose Motel was in May 2016 and I have stayed numerous times since.
I decided to book a stay for this month to commerate it as a 10 year anniversary of my first Red Caboose stay.

I booked the same caboose, ate the identical dinner and breakfast at Casey Jones that I had on that first stay.

I was checked in by Christine on this visit and she was also the same one that checked me in on my first stay in 2016.

I have seen numerous improvements done to the property over the past decade.

My stays are always comfortable and enjoyable at The Red Caboose Motel and I am looking forward to many more stays in the future.

The staff were friendly and I liked parking right in front of your room/train car. The mattresses were all uncomfortable- that’s my main complaint. There’s not a lot of space in the room but that is to be expected because it’s a train car. You go for the uniqueness of the stay not for the 5 star amenities. My kids loved watching the Strasburg railroad train go by. The restaurant there is pretty good and the servers were all excellent and friendly. You can see the train from the restaurant windows too. In the restaurant gift shop there is a model train you have to pay a dollar to run on the ceiling and my son really enjoyed that. There is a little petting zoo out front that you can put a quarter in to get some food and feed the alpacas, donkey, and goats. We enjoyed our stay and will likely return.

Ofcourse it’s great for children who love trains. We had a two bed caboose option and wished we gone with bunk beds so had more floor space for them to play around inside. Being right beside the train tracks, buggy rides and petting farm, the restaurant and shop is just perfect.

If you have little ones the shop in the restaurant has some great books available too.

We had a wonderful time staying in one of the caboose rooms! The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel welcome right away. While it isn’t a luxury five-star resort, it is a solid three-star gem with an immense amount of charm.

The location is perfect—it's very convenient for visiting local attractions like the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, Sight & Sound Theatres, and the Tanger Outlets, yet it feels peacefully tucked away from the hustle and bustle of the main drag. If you’re a train enthusiast or just looking for a unique stay, it is well worth it. Don't skip the restaurant—the food was fantastic, and the portions/quality really give you your money's worth!

Toilet was clogged when we arrived. We were able to unclog it the first time, however, the second time we had to unclog ourselves with a plunger we got from maintenance. We lost consistent hot water almost completely on our last night there and could not bathe our kids before traveling home.

It’s an experience to have once in a while. Hotels are the same everywhere and this is a complete game change. You can actually park next to your room.

This place is really special - it's a good experience, the staff is so nice, the restaurant is on site, and there are animals to visit. With all that said, the room itself was pretty shabby. The beds were wildly uncomfortable , the blankets had other people's hair embedded in it, and the cars/rooms are just run down. We were sad to leave the place in general but not the room itself.

The staff is so kind and amazing and the gift shop is filled with so really cute souvenirs. I was staying in the bridal caboose and was disappointed by the state it was in. There was dust all long the wood work behind the whirlpool tub and the high points of the ceiling. Not just a little dust but enough you could tell it had been accumulating over a significant period of time. There was a water damage on the ceiling where the flat part of the caboose roof met the dome the roof directly over the bed. The breadboard was bubbling out in areas from moisture damage. I was so excited to stay on my trip to Lancaster and was broken hearted when I saw the state of my room. I liked the setting enough that I would give the place one more try, but I would definitely pick another caboose.

I am a regular guest at The Red Caboose Motel....usually doing single night stays a few times per year.

I was assigned to the Chessie Caboose for this stay. Comfortable interior with the usual amenities of wireless internet, mini fridge and microwave...flat screen cable TV. This room had two wall unit A/C- heating units and the units kept the room warm on a chilly night.

I dined at the on-site Casey Jones Restaurant for dinner and the meal was tasty and service was prompt and courteous.
To sum up, a pleasant stay as usual and I will return soon for another stay

This is such a cute place to stay, it was our first time here but we already have plans to go back. The caboose rooms are adorable, very clean & comfortable with parking right out front of each individual train car. Staff was super friendly & helpful, you can tell they really enjoy working there. I have been visiting The Red Caboose Motel several times per year ever since the current owners purchased the property in 2016.

I am a railfan that enjoys train related things including sleeping in a caboose at The Red Caboose Motel.

Rooms are comfortable, dining at the onsite Casey Jones Restaurant has always been a pleasant experience for me and the Pennsylvania Dutch atmosphere of the surrounding area along with the close proximity to The Strasburg Railroad and The Railroad Museum of PA.

To sum up, an enjoyable stay as usual and I will return soon.

The check in and staff is wonderful, the convenience of having so much to do around like the horse carriage on site makes the experience different. The only thing, is during winter they should winterized the caboons better, and deep clean the carpets. They do give you a room warmer, and you can control the thermostat. Most is just covering holes where the cold air comes in. Like air-conditioning.

This is a unique place, lodging is in 43 re-claimed rail cars, mainly cabooses. As such, it is very well maintained and designed to capture the atmosphere of a bygone era that many people might have thought of only in their fantasies. It's designed for families with young kids to capture elements that they will make memories from, it's not a luxury resort for adults, so don't expect that. They work hard to make a nice place and allow kids,and parents to see and experience things they would never otherwise have an opportunity to know.
