DONT STAY HERE – I booked through Expedia and the hotel could not provide a working room key or access to my room. For hours I had no way to enter, and the hotel was completely uncontactable — even when Expedia tried to reach them. I was charged for a stay I never received and still haven’t been reimbursed. My room was cute, clean and the AC worked!!!! The staff was friendly and informative. As a solo woman traveller, it was easy to pop around to have a bite to eat and drink and I felt safe. Cosco Viejo was super lively. It was loud until late into the night and in the morning the trucks cleaning the streets and the bar clean up - glass/keg disposal etc woke me up ... but for me... it was an opportunity to get up and get going. However, I did appreciate the ear plugs they provided. If you have mobility issues, this may not be your place as cars are not allowed in the Old Town and there is not an elevator...but I would stay here again and again!

Great location, but easy to miss within the heart of old Bilbao. Be aware that it’s within a pedestrian area so if in a rented vehicles park at the nearby underground parking which is approximately 10 minutes walk away.

Check in was difficult. We had no idea what to do to get into our room. We finally called expedia who called the the Casual property where two young women were able to help us. Then the door to the room would not open and we had to go back to get one of the women to help. The lock was jammed and there continued to be times when it stuck room 108. Overall we are quite happy despite the frustrating beginning.

The key redeeming factor is location. You really are in the heart of it. However, you are also crammed into a tiny bedroom with hardly any room to walk around the foot of the bed, framed - quite literally - by Picasso's Guernica nightmare scene. Not very soothing! It's also pretty noisy at night - so best you join the party (we did)!
There's also no parking - but that's fair enough - they never said they would be. Expect to pay another Eu20/day for that and ready yourself for the 1/2 km walk with luggage.

This quirky little pension in Bilbao's old town was only a 10-minute walk from the the main railway station and less than five from the nearest bus stop. But be prepared for walking up the 2 flights of stairs to the pension entrance. No double glazing, so sounds from outside carry - light sleepers should come equipped with earplugs. The pension is on a relatively quiet street with the nearest bar some 50 metres away. But the bed was extremely comfortable, the bathroom (walk-in shower, not a bath) a good size and well equipped, efficient reception staff and an overall friendly vibe, with plenty of places to eat and drink close by. I'd happily stay there again, the next time I'm in Bilbao.

I loved the Pension Basque Boutique! It's in a great location in the the middle of Casco Viejo so lots of eating and drinking options very close by. Yes, it's not the quietist of spots but the double glazed windows do a lot to reduce the street noise and with the ear plugs provided the noise didn't disturb my sleep at all. The pension has a very chilled feel and as a solo female traveller I felt very safe there.
Staff are super friendly and helpful, in particular Vicki who gave me lots of suggestions of things to see in the city!

The receptionists were so lovely and helpful. The self check-in was easy and straightforward. The room was comfortable and clean. It’s located in old town, you have a pick of restaurants close-by. Anything good is in walking distance. 10/10 would recommend.

This is a small boutique hotel in the historical area. It was very quiet. The staff went out of their way to make sure I was comfortable and had everything I needed. There is no elevator so that could be a problem if you have large bags or mobility issues. Convenient to the metro (5 minute walk) Casco Viejo station and a bus ride from the airport.

Only stay here if you have no wish to sleep. It is in an incredibly noisy area. The only sleep we got was from 8-10 am and when we asked for some extra time to check out we were told no. I would definitely not stay here again.

Cannot fault the hotel the staff were really nice and helpful never stayed at a hotel with hair straighteners (ghd) in the room and a area thats has coffee making facilities and a clothes rail full of traditional Basque clothing to try on and take pictures . Beds are very comfortable and the room design is really different.Right in the middle of the bars and restaurants . 5 minutes walk from the tram station (Ribera) which can get you around the city for €1.50 a trip or a day ticket €10 Next we go to we will staying .

The late night crowd noise wasn’t too bad because it became white noise like a beehive, however when the bars close the individual shouts and voices become clear between 3-5 am. And then the glass recycle trunk begins its route from 6-8am.

The staff were lovely and the room was very clean with some nice features. The hotel was right in the heart of the old town which meant everything was walkable and there were lots of bars and restaurants in close proximity. The trade off for this is that the street outside is very noisy throughout the night and again in the morning as the glass recycling bins are directly below the hotel. Earplugs are provided but even with these we were woken up throughout the night. Still worth it for the price and location in my opinion.

This place was just fine. I did not realize that we had 3 flights of stairs and no elevator. We had 1 heavy suitcase so not so great. Location was wonderful, lots of restaurants nearby. Could walk everywhere that we wanted to go too. My husband found the bed a little hard but I was okay. Actually I will not book any less than a 3 star from now on.

We knew Check in was until 8pm but couldn’t find where to park the car. We called the hotel to ask them for a parking space and to let them know we were about to arrive ( it was 7:50).
We arrived 8:10 and there was nobody there so we had to wait in the street until someone finally answered the phone and have us the code (about 25 mins).
The hotel is located in the bar area and it is NOT prepared for this, we had the worst night ever because of all the noise from the street coming through the window.
I would not recommend this hotel.

Great quirky hotel. All rooms featured something about Basque culture. My room featured music with a double base forming part of the clothes rail and a mini piano we used as a table. The staff were attentive and answered all our questions in a friendly manner. The hotel was clean and well presented and very convenient for all the attractions of Bilbao old town. We will definitely be back.

The hotel even provided ear plugs as Casco Viejo can be noisy especially during Aste Numasia, but the soundproofing provided by the windows cuts street noise significantly. Also, the a/c worked perfectly and the small lobby has a self-service espresso machine accessible 24/7. If you want to stay in the old town area and you enjoy a small inn with artistic decor this is an excellent choice.

This is a very cute boutique hotel with awesomely creative rooms and artwork. The Basque culture comes through here in this unique atmosphere. However,there's no driving to the hotel and finding parking is not easy. The streets are very difficult to figure out even for folks who speak Spanish. There's a parade of sorts through the streets at night and it stops directly under the window for a long while. If you're looking for a party and a load of fun and a unique experience, this is for you. If you're looking for a comfortable place to sleep in a quality spot, maybe look around. I wouldn't trade this experience for comfort, though.

Delightful accommodation in old town
Basque Boutique is located on the first floor of a traditional building in the old town. We let ourselves in with a keycode and then the card to our room was waiting on the reception desk. This arrangement was fine by us. On occasions there was someone at reception - always friendly. Just off reception is an area with a shared Nespresso machine which we made good use of. This area is different from the photo on the website - it now has stuff for children and a clothes rail with Basque dressing up clothes for adults (why would you?). There are five contemporary bedrooms. Ours was a good size with three large windows - two with balconies - and a large shower room. We loved that two walls had the old brickwork exposed. It was very comfortable. Of course if you choose to stay in the old town there will be some noise. But we didn’t mind the murmur of people talking - and there was no loud music. Also the hotel helpfully provide earplugs in the bathroom if you need them - and hair straighteners as well as a hairdryer! The location is excellent - surrounded by many fabulous bars and restaurants serving delicious pintxos and Rioja - and places to get breakfast. And all the main sights can easily be reached on foot. The taxi from the airport was 25 euros. Couldn’t get an Uber. The rail station is about 10 minutes walk, and the Guggenheim is about 20 minutes walk. I would recommend it.

(Don’t touch the AC control or they will tell you off...nicely but still). Do not expect a full service hotel, more likely a glorified pensione. Comfy bed and clean room.

Used Towels were not replaced. Only a small bathroom bin, no wastepaper basket so empty bottles, magazines etc were placed near door and not removed by housekeeping. The empty bottles of complimentary shower gel were not removed either, and left to pole up.
Inside rim of toilet was filthy and had not been cleaned for some time by the looks of it-see photos.
Towel rail was coming away from wall, still functional but looked unsightly so should have been fixed.
Rarely anybody at front desk but not strong o courtesy when there was.
Lots of street noise from nearby bars but filtered out about 12pm.

first impressions count most and it was not good..took 30 mins to find as not signposted, it was dark and we wandered up and down Torre calle getting stressed. Funky hotel, room 107, about $110. Need code to open outside door, but we weren't told this at checkin, resulting in some problems later. Also some subsequent credit card payment problems. Also some street noise. Despite all this, we liked the place. It's got a good vibe, nicely decorated, two little balconies, and friendly staff. They arranged for a very early taxi and that worked fine.
