This “Hotel” was terrible. 1st of all when we entered the Hotel the receptionist was arguing with a customer. Secondary this hotel was closer to a crack house due to the wallpaper was pealing off the wall, the carpet was stained with black marks everywhere, the kitchen area had nothing at all, the cupboard doors were off the hinges and left to the side. The insects and bugs were disgusting they were in our room and in the lobby. The amount of arguments we heard during our 1 night stay was terrible the environment was not welcoming or safe what so ever. AT ALL COSTS STAY AWAY

Room was ok - clean sheets and beds were comfy however the hotel overall is abit run down and needs work - some of the skirting was taped on with brown packing tape, and lots of marks on the walls etc, could do with a lick of paint, also our room was in the basement and smelt abit damp! However saying that we only wanted somewhere cheap to sleep as we were out at concert and didn’t get back to our room till midnight and we were up and out by 10am so for that purpose and for what we paid for the room it was fine , staff were friendly!

The price reflects the standard.

This was a cheap hotel for London and the standard of accomodation reflects the pricing. The bed was comfortable and the room quiet enough. The bathroom pod was very small. There was a heat wave so it was very hot. There was a fan and we could open the windows on our second floor room. The area was ok and had some lovely cafes and pubs.

Do not stay here

The hotel is grubby and grimey. It lacks cleanliness and has a horrible smell. Our room was no better. We had a random fridge that had somebody’s rice in a container in it. We went to bed at around 10pm and couldn’t get to sleep four hours as the men running the hotel were going in and out above our room and shouting upstairs in the garden. Got woken up at 3:40am by banging. Don’t feel at all rested and my sleep was completely ruined.

This is a terrible place to stay. Mainly the shower room was a wet room which seemed to be on a tilt, making the toilet area wet and the whole room smell of damp, rancid water. In the room there was a kettle but no tea or coffee and no cups! There was no light shade on the light, just a bare bulb and there was one pillow each, bith of which were completely flat. The curtain didn't fit the window. There was a full size fridge which I imagine was for the use of the poor homeless people or immigration overs

No hot water for a shower after the first night, after the second night the water was scalding hot without a way to turn the temperature down.

You leave the key on the reception desk when exiting the hotel during your stay and the key is left there for anyone to grab.

There may as well not be any windows as they do nothing to keep the outside sound out.

Doors don't have an additional lock inside the room so anyone with a key has access while you're asleep.

Wicked spot...

Just had the most amazing stay at city view. Everyone was very friendly. It was quite lively at times. The shower was hot, the beds were comfy the TV worked. If you are looking for somewhere to get your head down and have plenty of shops and cafes to wake up to then this is your spot. Would definitely stay again.

They were quite rude on arrival and I needed ID which they had not stipulated on booking. I do not carry I ID but luckily I had a photo on my phone. The room was a decent size and beds were comfortable. There was quite a lot of noise outside and the room was not well sound proofed. It was very hot in the but it did have a fan. The toilet was in the same place as the shower so this was not the best experience.

The toilet flush wasn't working and we got told to fill up a bucket from the shower (that was above the toilet) to flush it. As a result from that and the general cleanliness we went home after our evening and didn't stay the night (we left at 23:45). For the price of the room this isn't acceptable.

Strange place, our room came with a kitchenette including a sink and kettle but absolutely nothing else in it. We weren’t expecting plates and cutlery but at least a cup to have a glass of water. There was a kettle but no mugs or anything to make tea/coffee with. The soap in the bathroom had the last dregs in it and had already been refilled with water to bulk it out, also no bathroom bin for sanitary items. Staff were nice but although fine for one night we definitely wouldn’t have wanted to stay longer.

Our room was very small, 2 single beds one under window & other one's head board was at the bottom of the one under wndow, there was one shower room with toilet for all 20 rooms or so, & two toilets in reception area, one shower for all those room isn't very hygienic, we stayed four night never had bucket emptied, clean towels, they never came near the room, the receptionist guy slept on couch in reception & & more often than none still lying there at 10 in the morning so reception still in darkness, and the back area where you can have a cigarette or have a seat outside was a disgrace,broken furniture,lots of rubbish, its a fire hazard, i would never stay there again.

ABSOLUTE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

This by far one of the worst experiences I've ever had. This hotel is a scam. The photos are not at all what you get. The room is TINY. There is absolutely no HEAT/A/C. The room is extremely old and filthy. The floor carpet is torn up. Pillows are disgusting and torn up and old. The bathroom shower head was broken. The hotel is was a very disgusting area. It was EXTREMELY noisy. The worst part is, when the staff was told about all the complaints, they offered no solution or alternative or money back. If Hotels.com were really company in support of its' consumers, they would do everyone a favor and remove this place from the website so that no one has to fall for this scam again.

You get what you pay for! London being a super expensive city for hotels, we did not expect a great stay when we booked this place as we know £68 for 1 night is cheap for London. But that said, this place isn't nice, the room is very small, noisy in the morning as just facing the courtyard of a primary school, the TV wasn't working properly appart 1 channel, no bedside lamp, just a super strong bright main lightbulb, toilet inside the shower is definitely not the most ideal setting (LOL) and with no bath rug to dry your feet after leaving that wet box... but the staff is nice and very smiley, and the mattress was not too shabby.

Avoid!!! Friendly check in. My room looked nothing like the photos on the web site. The door to my room opened on to the reception area, the staff had a social get together in the reception area until 1am, despite me requesting for them to keep the noise down.
Through the night the noise of doors banging etc. I once again asked about the noise, the receptionist informed me he was emptying the bins etc.
I left at 4.30am to find the reception area finally in darkness and the night staff fast asleep in the reception area. My leaving didn’t even wake him.
Second night also kept awake by general noise in the reception area. I left at 7.30 am. Once again the reception staff fast asleep.
Parking only after 6pm up until then £9 per hour no parking on Tuesday and Thursday as it’s market day. (Don’t be fooled by the photos on the web site, they are far from accurate)

Bit of an odd place all in all.

Checked in no problem and my room was pretty might right behind the desk.
Toilet was really small and the whole room was the shower- floor would be soaking if you wanted to use it afterwards.

Could hear the guy in reception watching TV at night.

You had to leave your room key on the check-in desk when leaving and pick it up again yourself on the way back in.

There was a half sized residential style fridge in the room, which was strange but great to have.

Definitely not worth €120 for a one night stay, but it would be decent value if you could get it for €30 per night.

what you pay is what you get

staff were very friendly. rooms were clean (no bugs in sight - which i know a few people have mentioned). we had a fan, heater, fridge, kettle and a tv which is all me and my mum needed for our one night away. however, the toilets were upstairs and there wasn’t any disability access for my mum (who had to walk up a flight of stairs everytime she needed to go).

overall, if you pay £50 a night for two people, be expecting £50 worth. what you pay is what you get.

Is what it is, dont expect the ritz for peanuts.

Visted with a friend, we were looking for a simple cost effective option with easy connection to the city.

The venue was not only well positioned (a single bus/tube ride to central) but cheaper than a hostel for private facilities.

The venue is currently being refurbished, though the beds and frames were new so a good nights sleep was had.

Will happily stay again.

Room was very good and clean. I had no TV as it was in service. What a big disappointment. spoilt my enjoyment as I couldn't pass time. i complained but they couldn't do anything. In the end I watched the news in the main lobby with other people who were talking etc and went back in my room. Also the staff informed me that after 2.00 am no one is there at reception to open the main door. So if I go out i must be back by 2:00 am. Another frustrating thing I found. Also there were more hotels with the same name, had trouble finding the place. However overall it was okay for the price i paid and for what I had to do in London.

ONE OF THE WORST HOTELS IN LONDON?

Rarely do I leave such poor reviews, but I can't find anything positive about this hotel I'm afraid to say. The check in was very slow and I was left waiting in the rain for a long time before the door was opened. Check in took 10 minutes to complete once inside.

The room was horrendous. Broken bed which bowed in the middle, dirty and dusty, I didn't want to touch anything! A very loud vibrating noise that went off all night above the room or outside it. Like an electrical noise? I have on idea but it kept me awake for hours. Mould in the bathroom, disgusting shower curtain. Tiny bathroom where sitting on the toilet meant having to leave the door open as it was too close to the frame for my knees to fit in! The only upside was that checking out was quick! Although the person was abrupt and uninterested. Hotels.com kindly approached them for a refund which they declined. With so many other options in London, I advise you to stay clear of this one!

Arrived at hotel all was well, went out once I checked in and when I arrived back at the hotel I had FOUR knocks at the door (11PM) as they had checked in some one else to my room before I arrived my self and the fellow guest had things in my room. Very unclean room, smelt disgusting (mix of longterm cigarette smoke and something else) which made it uncomfortable to breathe. Bathroom was dirty, clearly hadn’t been washed in a long time. The bed and linen appeared clean but hard to be sure when the rest of the room was so filthy.
The service was good enough, but I could never stay there again, definitely not cheap enough to justify the fear of getting bed bugs

The most appalling place to be. I wonder how the local council granted such business a licence. I intend to report to the Tower Hamlets Environmental team what I witnessed. Even a pig pen far better than the entire accommodation. No inside amenities will pass any test. Health of users or clients are at risks. What a waste of money spent for the accommodation. This is absolutely lessons learned. Never going back neither recommend to all and sundry. Hotels.com should remove the Hotels or Pig Pen from their lists regardless of subscription.

Well, I'm glad that I didn't listen to the reviews and went for myself. This place is not nearly as bad as the reviews have made it. I had a quiet room downstairs with private bathroom and fridge inside. Plus a cooked breakfast every morning. At first I wasn't keen on having to leave the key behind whenever I left, but someone was always there to let you back in. I enjoyed the stay and the Roman Road Market. Would definitely stay here again.

It looks like only men clean and designed the space. It was functional and safe, but lacks the touch of creativity in the decor. It looks like the owners did not put much effort in the decor and hygiene in the place. Plastic table cloths and plants, One towel? A TV with two controllers is a problem. But, I did feel safe. Hire a decorator and some women cleaners. It just lacks that inviting warm feeling. I believe I was treated like a customer not as a guest.

If your purely looking for a cheap bed for the night, try a hostel instead. Seems like the owners arent bothered about customers, I didnt even get shown around or the place explained I just paid and they left me to it. The room was literally a storage closet with cobwebs in the corners of the room. Toilet and bathroom facilities are on another floor and right outside the window was random dirty boxes. The walls were paper thin and I could hear the next rooms activities. Avoided the free breakfast offered as I just wanted to get out. If effort and care was put into this place, it would be half decent and I really wish I wasnt exagerating about the highlighted points. Hands down worst place ive stayed.

Rooms dirty, bathroom the size of a toilet in a caravan, no even a bath or plate to have a shower, it was the floor of the bathroom where we had to shower- no hot water and one of the room had a funny smell impossible to take out.

Have had better experiences.

Average. The single room was very, very small with no window or ventilation only a wall fan. A death trap in case of fire. I had to sleep with my bedroom door open in the hall way for fresh air. Shower unit even smaller. Comfortable bed.
Breakfast was basic but filling. Attention to details was lacking. Table cloths soiled with food and stained remained from guess to guess. Helpful staff but not professional or trained in the hospitality arena. Lacking customer service.
Location was good.
Would I stay again. Let's say only if they were the only place vacant in the whole of London.

Roman Road adventure

location complicated by there being two City View Hotels on Roman Road, this one being in the Market - not something you want to discover at 1.00am after a walk from the tube to the wrong one first!.
Made very welcome by the staff and facilities basic but comfortable and certainly very clean. Breakfast description on Hotels.com ("cooked to order") is technically correct but don't expect much of a selection.
WIFI non-existent in basement (bedroom)

Decent choice, OK breakfast, noisy Saturday mornin

A good budget choice. Located between Mile End and Bow tube stations (about 10 mins from each)

Resonable cooked breakfast. Tea/coffee/juice; White bread, butter and jam; Eggs - choice of how cooked; Baked beans; Meat sausages; Cereal. Could be improved with a few more vege options (vege sausages, tomoato, mushrooms) but not bad for the price.

Our room was noisy on the Saturday morning as it is right on the market road.

Free (unsecured) wifi.

Tiny ensuite bathroom - plenty of hot water.

I found my stay was very pleasent and I commend it to anyone who wants a stay at City View Hotel if they are wanting visit the London Stadium for example also there's loads of eating places to go to around the area. Thanks team!

I don't trust this place as far as I can throw it.

I went home with bug bites.

Also when I checked in, the staff made a big show about how "oh, the card machine isn't plugged in" - which makes me inclined to believe the flood of reviewers that say there's a card fraud scheme going on. I'm getting a new card just in case.

No one helped me carry my suitcase upstairs. The room smelt mouldy. The tv did not work. And the location was not desirable. It took about 3 mins for someone to open the door when I came back in the evening. Overall I was dissapointed.
