Simple, comfortable, helpful staff and good value

I had one of the internal rooms (no windows) which got warm pretty quickly, even in October. When I asked reception if the AC could be turned on, they gave me the remote to work it, no questions.

Room was compact but comfortable and pretty clean. Shower was good (plenty of pressure). Simple facilities, but perfectly acceptable at this price.

The stairs are very very narrow and made us exhausted to take our suitcases to the second floor.

The desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We cannot say enough good about how wonderful they were. Coming from the U.S., we may have made some assumptions and had unrealistic expectations of a hotel in London. The room was smaller than we are used to. We expected a room with 2 twin beds and a full size bed to have space between each bed; the twin beds were pushed together with only a small space between the full bed and twin. Although there was a cubbie/shelf area with a hanger bar, there was no closet or dresser to unpack into. We assumed that there would be wash cloths in addition to the towels provided. The towels were only changed once in our 6 night stay. Although we did not bring this to the attention of the staff, our daughter slept on top of the covers and used an airplane sleep pillow as the sheets on her bed had a stain on them or were dirty. The website indicated that the hotel has a/c. Upon check-in we were told that there is normally a daily fee for a/c; however, this fee was waived because they were having a heatwave during our stay. The hotel was conveniently located about a 10 minute to the tube station which was necessary as the location was far from London tourist areas.

A roof over your head

Tiny room, only a couple of inches longer than my arm reach. Barely any room to move.

Hair & some marks in the bed.
Bedding clearly not fresh - smelled and felt like it had been slept in several times.

Our room for 3 adults was tiny and most of the furnishings were old and tatty, the headboard was completely ripped, 3 tea bags, 3 milk pods and no cups. Air con was £5 if you wanted it, night receptionist gave it us for free which was appreciated. The room served its purpose as we were literally only sleeping in it but I wouldn’t return

Travelers be aware that this is not 3 stars hotel

Worse hotel experience in my life, regardless of my status of a Hotels.com GOLD MEMBER. My family of five was accommodated in a so-called \"ground level\" room (never disclosed in my hotels.com reservation). It was a BASEMENT, with tiny stairs access (see the pictures) with no ventilation, no window and mold smell presence that my asthmatic son started coughing immediately. The bathroom was outside the room, next to the stairs. The front desk could not change us to a livable room, that didn't represent a health risk issue, so we decided to leave and look for another hotel. After asking for a full refund to Adam, the manager, the response was that it was \"disclosed\" that our room was \"ground level\" and it was our option to leave (?!) offering me a 50% reimbursement (?!). The health risk in this place due to mold presence should be reviewed by the London Health Department, to which I will place a complaint. To date, I have not received my refund. Very frustrated to arrive to this hostel-like place and had to spend extra money to find another place to stay in the middle of our first time experience in London. Hotels.com never reached out to me either, regardless my multiple attempts to get help.

Very small room, obviously converted store cupboard , no window, no room for one let one alone 2 people to get changed, had to climb on the bed to hang clothes up..Very claustrophobic, stuffy and hot, humming, vibrating noise throughout the night that sounded like an industrial fridge going off, receptionist on the front was very nice and apologetic but i am afraid there is very little to recommend this hotel

A great stay!

My stay was great. I stayed in the hotel for 5days. The receptionists were all very friendly and showed good interpersonal skills. One of the female receptionist especially always had a genuine smile on her face when talking to me which was heartwarming. On the day of my check out, this same female receptionists was very kind and helpful in helping me move my luggage and suggesting the best way to get to my taxi.
As someone whose family has once owned a hotel, based on the qualities of the receptionists, I believe this hotel is a great place to stay especially for those who are new to London as customer care often determines whether a guest will enjoy their stay in a hotel or not.
Cleanliness of the room was pleasing.
I will definitely book again with this hotel if need be!

Perfect Plaza London Hotel!

The location of Plaza hotel is perfect for my visits to east London area.The room was comfortable and clean with a tv and wifi.My bathroom was out of the room but very close and was very clean.The staff are very helpful and friendly and the reception is open 24hrs.I had the use of the kitchen downstairs with kettle and microwave and seating area.Teabags,coffee etc are provided and I would highly recommend Plaza hotel to anyone who likes nice clean hotel rooms at a great price.I will definitely be returning here.Phil.

Absolutely rubish. This hotel was selected by your Customer Sevice Advisor because the one I booked was no longer operating and was indefinitely closed when I showed up to checkin. I called your hotline and received the worst service ever. It took over 1h to rebook me into this disgrace of a hotel (dirty, noise till 3am, no window ... ) and I had to walk 30min to get there. Absolutely disgusted with the treatment I got from Hotels. Com and will definitely think.twice before using your services again.

The whole place smelled stuffy and moldy. The curtains were ripped at the edges and full of stains. Everything was being held together by nails and shaking. The headboard and the panels next to the bed were covered in sweat stains. The pillows were hard as rock and way too thick to be able to sleep on them without the neck folding at an 80 degree angle. I chose to sleep without pillows on the second night to avoid any more discomfort. The walls had dirty prints and makeup stains on them. The bathroom was modern, though there was some hair from the previous resident. Would not recommend.

\"Plaza London Hotel, it is central, good location and good for excess transportation. It is near the underground as well and there are restaurants and shops around. The staff are very nice and they are very helpful. The hotel rooms are very small and they are not well clean enough. We found dust on top of the lampshades, cobwebs on the wall, sheets and pillow cases were not so clean. We found stained on them. The bathroom was fine and clean. The a/c was fine. But the bedrooms need some good cleaning and improvement. The breakfast was good but not excellent. The hotel is suitable to do a one night and it's a budget hotel.\"

Didn't like the Hotel at all. The staircase is very narrow and stiff. The room condition is also not good. The carpets are torn off and you can see the broken tiles. The AC was not working. The room has a phone but the line was disconnected so basically for any request you need to walk down to the lobby and ask. So as per the price, I have paid is totally unworthy to stay in this hotel.

Reception is nice. Card access is good. Family Room was abysmal, 4 wall lights only one bulb, thick dust on window sills, Windows had to be propped open, hanging unit was only attached to the wall at the base and swayed alarmingly when items placed on the top, carpets were filthy, blood stains on wall and by bathroom door, bed runners had old food attached to them, mattresses were well past usable, air con had to be asked for with a £10 deposit for the controller. Rooms not sound proofed.

Did not use any other advertised amenities.

Toilet seat was held on by one screw, making each trip a test of balance and bravery.

Shower was good.

And i had to pay extra for my niece and breakfast for her, even though I could disprove their words. The room was very small, the duvet was of cotton vool, it was very loud between the rooms. The hotel isn't too far away from the city and is quite accessible. Not sure if they have parking if you were not using public transport. There was someone at reception when I checked in & out. But they had very poor people skills. For example ai asked for the hotel post code this morning because I wanted to book a taxi and was told 'its there' being pointed to business cards. There was no small talk or questions about my stay. All very cold and unfriendly. I would stay there for the price but reconsider because of poor customer service. The hotel is clean, although the TV in my room wasn't working. No signal. Didn't use the wifi so can't comment. Hotel is located on a busy street but main entrance and then entrace to rooms is secure which is good. The rooms have no sound proof so you can here what\"s going on next door, on the stairs and the heavy traffic on street. Windows are single glazing don't know if rooms would be warm enough in winter. Overall nice hotel. Decent stay for the price. I think its value for money.

AVOID THIS HOTEL!!!!!!

The staircase was dirty, the rooms had damp on walls especially in bathroom, windows were dirty, radiator full of dust, no bulb in lamp, blood stains on pillowcase, bathroom door did not close and did not have lock and breakfast was average that we ended up eating in café round the corner.
I was very disappointed as this is the first time I stayed in a hotel in London, especially as was with my husband and 14 year old son and this was a bad choice.
Pictures of hotel are very deceiving so think more than twice before staying here.

The front of the hotel was not very encouraging 2* but the staff and the room were a pleasant suprise 4*.
The room was very compact but included a recently refurbished ensuite bathroom. The staff were really warm and friendly. They were 5*

more room on the tube in rush hour.

cramped room with hardly any room to walk around the beds. far to hot even with the heating off and the window wide open.
the toilet seat was hanging off and would fall down and bang on the pan.
landing door would slam when people went through which sounded like a sledge hammer coming through the room.
paid £128 for 2 nights but they only put £104 on the invoice which i found odd.
but if your a small person who is allways cold and can sleep through the blitz then that room we stayed in is right for you.

Twin room with a double bed

They first did not check us in for more than 30 minutes because they mixed up my booking with someone else's. We booked a twin room, however when we went to our bedroom it was 2 beds joined together to make up a double bed. There was no way to separate the beds as the room was very small and we could not move the beds. So if you are on a business trip with a colleague, good luck sleeping together. When I took a shower, the vent was operating and when I came out, everywhere was in thick dust! The vent was so dusty, the thick dust was on the floor, on the toilet, in the sink. Even in the room, everything was dusty. We will not be going back there hopefully.

The location was ideal as I was staying for 2 boxing shows at York Hall and it was 5 minutes around the corner.
It's basic but clean and the continental breakfast is ok.
The downside is that there is no car park or parking outside.

Terrible breakfast, tiny rooms and very thin walls

Considering how much we paid we were not impressed. The rooms just fitted a double bed in the corner (So one of us was wedged against the wall) the bedding was grubby and the decor faded.

Breakfast was a disaster..self service 'buffet' consisting of sliced bread, cold boiled egg, sweaty sliced brie and some questionable looking croissant. The toaster took about 5mins to toast just one side of the bread. We didn't bother on day 2 and went to the cafe opposite.

The walls were so thin we could have joined in the conversation with next door.

Not going back.

The room was clean, and the bathroom immaculate, but the welcoming staff seemed totally bored and unwelcoming. The staircase was so narrow you could hardly get a suitcase up it, and our twin bedded room was tiny. I had to crawl from the end of the bed to get into it !it was nice being able to open the window, and being at the back it was quiet. The room and bathroom was just too small and claustrophobic, with nowhere to sit except the bed. First place I've stayed where there wasn't a kettle or water in the room. Serving staff at breakfast were lovely, but the room to eat in was like a windowless cellar, and the breakfast was very poor. If you're a student and skint this might be a reasonable place to stay - but I think I'd choose a hostel. We won't be going back there !

Staff are friendly and helpful. The Safe wouldn't open in the room and this issue was dealt with very quickly and we were able to use it. Also when we accidentally got locked out of the room, the reception staff helped immediately and without judgement. The room was very hot and as there was no window the air conditioning had to stay on when you were in there. However, it was very noisy which made sleeping difficult despite the comfy bed. Breakfast is not included but an additional charge pp (despite me searching for a hotel with breakfast included). Kitchen facilities are good but can only be used at certain times. Stairs to the room are extremely steep and narrow but staff helped with suitcases which was good. The 'private bathroom' was along the corridor with an single toilet in an extremely small room. The other room has a shower, sink and toilet. The shower is hot and powerful and the complimentary toiletries smell quiet nice. Housekeeping is daily and the towels are good. There are no drink making facilities in the room which lets it down but you do get an in-room safe, hairdryer, tv, single wardrobe and small set of drawers (not much storage for a family room/6 people). There is barely enough room to open the suitcases on the floor. The hotel is 5/6 mins direct walk from the underground station and very easy to find.

I only stayed in it the first night as I arrived after 1 am. I wasted my money on a 4 night stay. The place was filthy, damp, in disrepair, self service kitchen was filthy with no clean cups etc
Triple room had a double and single bed. Very cramped. One tiny wardrobe for 3 people. The safe did not work. No kettle facilities. Very poor standard. Very bad experience.

Good position, cheap but you'll not get any sleep

Room was incredibly small and with no windows, it felt more a storage closet. Scratches and marks on every wall and spiderwebs on the ceiling.
I was also unlucky to end up in the room just next to the boiler room that it's on all night and it's very noisy so it was very hard to feel asleep and get any rest at all. When I asked to change the room I was told that no other room was available.
Breakfast is a joke: few bananas and some piece of cheese left on a small table.
Not great for £60 per night..

Only positive points: The wifi is really good and the position is optimal and close to the Central line (5min) and District line (10min)

AVOID and spend more money on another hotel

Room seriously needs updating. Smell of stale smoke when entering the room and damp patches all over the ceiling. Wet patch on the carpet which was unpleasant. Building would benefit greatly from double glazing as it felt like you were outside sleeping on the road with the traffic

Literally somewhere to lay your head!!!

OK if you just need to put your head down for the night. The breakfast wasn't wonderful and it's all self service. We booked a room for 6 with a private bathroom and when we arrived, the bathroom was outside our room. This was a little disappointing as we had children with us and were concerned about them leaving the room in the middle of the night. It was literally somewhere for us to lay our heads after a hard day sightseeing but we probably wouldn't choose to stay there again.

Good and practical Budget Hotel

The place exceeded our expectations! We booked expecting the worst given some of the review comments we read, the hotel is is in a good location very close to the underground railway station and the bus stop is just a few meters way. This made our stay much convenient and worth the money. The staff were friendly and stored our language for about 6 hours after we checked out, this gave us some time to explore central London given that our departure flight was in the night. Eating places are just next door so we did not worry about meals. My colleges and I travelled for a training workshop and needed a practical and affordable place to stay, this hotel met our needs.

Good location, convenient, but water system noisy

For me the location was perfect to get into central London and Canary Wharf. The room was simple, very clean, furniture a bit tatty but that is not an issue for me. Kitchen facilities were available to use in the evening if needed. The only issues I had were the very noisy water system; the tap in other rooms made a horrendous noise at night and woke me up a number of times. Also I couldn't open my window and had to leave the aircon on all night.

great for hobbits

Very small rooms and you have to be very small to get into the bathroom.
It was not very clean and in the middle of a council est.
Not close to anything and breakfast as limited to say the least.
Over all not impressed and even the Free wifi did not work.

No lift, stairs. The kind that gives the pleasant burn one obtains via level 10, highest resistance, on the original StairMaster. Luggage storage is lobby plus security cameras. Doors lock at night, with 24 hour well-mannered reception. Diversity of East London is the flavor of the neighborhood. Nothing posh. Simple and authentic. Unobtrusive spiritual presence of most religious belief systems. Tolerance. Vegan yummy options near the buddhist temple as well. Lots of diverse inexpensive eats, too. Bethnal Green underground stop, Central Line. 15 minute walk to QMUL.
