Tony
Best guesthouse / hotel I have stayed in when visiting Northern Ireland. Located in Bangor and overlooking Belfast Lough - the setting is amazing - especially if the weather behaves! Staff are very friendly and professional, the house is full of charm and character and course the breakfast was amazing!

Room was clean but let down by stain on chair in bedroom and bath silicon needed replacing otherwise lovely and tea and coffee facilities, breakfast and host excellent.

What a nice stay we had at the Shelleven House. Besides the comfort of our room the location was perfect for us. The owners were very friendly and helpful with all needs and questions we had. My husband and I would highly recommended this hotel.
Colin
Breakfast was great and the hotel was clean and tidy. Host was excellent. Recommended.
John
A great place to stay. there is no elevator. If you have mobility issues it could be a problem. The beds are 54”. Could be bigger There is a wonderful living room/parlour and hosts are most welcoming and informative. They did laundry for us at a reasonable cost. It was easy to walk to great pubs and restaurants. Parking on site was excellent. We highly recommend this place

Clean and quite. About 20 min drive from downtown. Does not include breakfast.
Mark
Comfortable, clean, friendly and an excellent Ulster breakfast.
Ensuite bathroom could do with a refresh and the towels have definitely seen better days.

The property is well maintained with attractive bedrooms and I found Sue (the owner) to be very helpful, informative and welcoming. Breakfast was plentiful with a good selection of cereals and yogurts. Value for money was excellent.
It has to be said though, that the property is old and, being converted (rather than purpose built), there are constraints on how comfortable the rooms can be. Ours was very hot during the (admittedly uncharacteristic!) heatwave with no way of cooling it down. One of the windows was low and unopenable. As it is a guest house, we could not expect the owners to be available at all times- so the property was not staffed during the evenings, nor did we feel it would be reasonable to ask for a fan or to change our room.
The bathroom had a good shower with a flexible hose (one of my particular preferences). However the sink was very low and not very big so quite tricky for my husband to shave there.
The television was baffling! The manual for it was left in a drawer, but it was really challenging just to get to choose a normal channel each time it was switched on. BBC I player and Channel 4 on demand could not be accessed. This was disappointing since we wanted to follow the cricket test match highlights. It seems petty to complain, but it did spoil our evenings a bit.
There is ample car parking and the location is quite good, being close to the sea and not far from Bangor town centre or station which we visited on foot sometimes.

A great location for a Bangor Stay
A lovely stay, a warm welcome and smooth checkin. An extensive breakfast menu. I had a freshly prepared Ulster Fry and a very tasty omelette in the end ..... it was tricky to choose! We were weekend stayers, so being so close to the shore and it's wonderful coastal path as well as it being only a short stroll into Bangor for the best bars with wonderful live music. Perfect
Paul
Great location and facilities, and very hospitable hosts
Shana
We absolutely loved our stay at Shelleven! The hosts were helpful and friendly, and the location was perfect. Just a short walk to the marina and several great restaurants. We would definitely stay again!

It was nice and clean, i enjoyed my stay there for 3-4 days
Laura
Warm welcome, small room
A good location, friendly welcome and tasty breakfast. Room was a small single. Not really enough room to lay out medium sized suitcase. Plumbing noises late at night and early in the morning were quite bad and woke me up both nights. Lost a fair bit of sleep because of it. Nice wee place, but I wouldn't choose the same room again.
Catriona
Owner was lovely. Friendly. Warm room on a terrible day.
Norma
Shelleven House is a lovely Victorian building and the owners Sue & Paul are lovely hosts. Breakfast was delicious and cooked fresh as ordered. Good base for travelling around the coastal route and handy for trains to Belfast and surrounding areas. We would go back there in a heartbeat.
Garry
Lovely hosts with excellent service.

A fab place to stay
Karen
The property which was immaculate was lovely with comfortable beds. The host's were friendly and helpful, Sue is especially lovely. There were lovely little personal touches that made it very homely. There is a lovely reading room where they serve drinks including alcohol for use of yourself or if you have guests visiting you which is allowed until 10:00p.m and the breakfast is excellent with beautiful presentation. We are going to stay again and walk the Costal Path. Thanks Paul and Sue Xx

Bangor's Best
We highly recommend Shelleven. It is quiet, comfortable, well-equipped, and has a great location so that one may walk to most of Bangor's excellent eateries. Sue's breakfast is legendary - or if it's not, it should be - and she and her staff are very friendly and welcoming.
John

Charming
The guesthouse was charming. The staff were so friendly and helpful. I asked if they had porridge at breakfast and they immediately cooked some for me. I would definitely recommend them.
Kevin
Great place. All you need.

Outstanding older home.
Good to not flush toilets at night as they make quite a noise but that is the way it is in older places.
Showers not the greatest especially for those with longer hair but again this is the way it is in most places.
Pillows were great, bed was great, breakfast was great, room was beautiful and bathroom was beautiful. Nice detail to furnishings and sitting areas. Highly recommend for a very cozy comfortable stay.

The location is great, many food options, pubs, and things to see all within easy walking distance. There isn't a pull off for unloading and parking is not on site. Overall it is a great place to stay!

I stayed 2 nights at Shelleven house and the room was comfortable and cozy. The check-in was easy, room and the house was super clean and the breakfast was delicious. Great location to get into town, train station or to start the coastal walk.

Exceptional hosts, brilliant place to stay!
Paul and Sue at Shelleven House were exceptional hosts. Their guest house was a tranquil and comfortable place to stay, especially as a solo traveller. I felt safe and secure at all times. I particularly appreciated how they both remembered my name and would address me by name at breakfast and around the house. Breakfast was consistently brilliant, homely and filling. There was an option for every need! I will definitely be returning and recommending to family and friends. Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Mark
We were given great recommendations a me dirctions for the town - Underground Dinig was FANTASTIC- and places to go and sites to see on our way to our next stop. Comfortable room in a great location. Great breakfast.

A wee gem of a place 💎
I have family in Bangor and I've stayed in a few different places close by, this is easily my favourite. Firstly, it's clean, fresh and welcoming. My room has always been a wee haven for my trip. The rooms are well equipmented with the normal, but also the tea selection is good and then there are cotton wool balls in the bathroom, so much easier to remove my make-up with them instead of a tissue!
The breakfast is perfect, just such a good breakfast. The owner is lovely, chatty and helpful without being over the top. It's an easy walk from the train/bus station if you are using public transport and it also has a private car park for residents.
All in, this is my place to stay when I'm in Bangor or nearby. Looking forward to my next stay already

Shelleven House first-class!
My daughter and three granddaughters thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Shelleven. Highly recommend this beautiful remodeled Victorian guest house just steps from the marina and beautiful Bangor waterfront. The owners are very friendly and personable. The service, from delicious breakfasts to room service is first class. Guest sitting & dining room tasteful decor and most comfortable. Bedrooms are beautiful with extremely comfortable beds. A lovely way to end our visit to Ireland.

Bangor Stay
Fabulous find. Accommodations are immaculate. 5 minute walk into town. 10 minutes walk to catch the train into Belfast. Beautiful seaside promenade to walk along.
Alison
Enjoyed the stay- the location was ideal. We arrived late at night and breakfast the next morning was a little unsteady- do we sit, where do we sit, who do we speak to, but all fine once we had met Sue the next day. Loved the room and comfort, the capsule coffee maker was not working but we were fine with the kettle and sachets.
I would recommend and hope to be back.

Perfect
Exactly what you want from a guesthouse/hotel. Sue and Paul were extremely helpful, went out of their way to help and were really nice people. The breakfast staff and housekeepers were the same, always really helpful and nice, nothing was ever too much. The room had everything you need, a nice warm powerful shower, plenty of plug sockets with USB adaptors and a desk to work on. Comfy bed with a lovely duvet. Whenever I work away this is the standard everywhere should aspire to be.
Vivienne
Just average
Room was very small with only a double bed and a very lumpy soft mattress. Room furniture very dated. Only seen the owner once and that was to give us the key on arrival. Not four star more a 3 star. View of buildings at the back so no sea view. On the plus side the breakfast was very good. Please fix the door in this room, you have to push it open as it catches on the floor. This was Room 7 - avoid it if you can.
