It was the other guest's carry on.so we didn't get to sleep till 4 in the morning it took so long to sort the situation out eventually the police were called i was terrified as we were in the next room to the drunken scumbags..absolute disgrace..won't be staying there again if thats the sort of rifraf they cater for.

Just things to know: Door closed at night and you don’t get a key to the front door. Also, the building is very old, which is fine, but some parts definitely show wear and tear. If you visit in the winter there are heating hours, which makes the place a bit cold at times.

There was no internet in the room although staff tried to reset it it would not connect in the room and cell service was sketchy at best. Our TV remote also did not work, even after a battery change. First world problems perhaps but two things that negatively impacted our stay.

The staff were fantastic and very helpful. The food was also very good. The rooms were like stepping back in time to the 1970’s. Awful beds. Luke warm drippy showers. Plug sockets that you couldn’t get a plug in. Windows that won’t stay open without propping them up with a log.

The welcome was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was really good, but the property felt run down and shabby. Our windows looked out onto a dirty fire escape and had no way to hold them open, but would not have been secure open anyway so room was hot. Sitting on the high square toilet was like an implement of torture. The mattresses were cheap and uncomfortable and could feel the springs and got bounced around by partner. Paint peeling off the walls. Carpet so thin and with no underlay. Cobwebs around ceiling. Very dated room with little to recommend it. Shower was powerful when the hot water eventually came through.

We had a great few days at the Dobbins Inn. Breakfast had all the usual options and was perfect. We had dinner 2 of the nights and it was some of the best food we had on our trip. The rooms are dated but it's an old place and expected. The bed was comfortable, and the windows opened enough to control the temperature. Wi-Fi was available throughout the building. The car park is less than a 5-minute walk to the hotel.

We stayed at this hotel for one night as a stopover before making our way to Scotland via ferry. The hotel is dated, much like most of the buildings in the area (we are from the United States and not adapted to older buildings.) Parking for hotel is in a public car park for Carrickfergus Castle across the road. No lifts available in hotel and rooms are upstairs. Overall, the room served the purpose for an overnight stay. The hot, made to order breakfast was delicious before checking out. Staff was friendly and helpful.

This property offers old world charm in an old world neighborhood. The castle is a block away. The staff was super friendly and the dinner and breakfast meals were very good. If you can’t get parking on the street in front of the hotel, free parking is available at the harbor a block away. There is a loading/unloading area in front of the hotel.

The room we were in had a gorgeous view of the castle! The room was clean and the bed comfortable. The bathroom looked recently remodeled. It is an old building so the floor was uneven; and the day we went was windy so the walls seemed to move with the wind- but that is to be expected in an old building. The one thing I will note is that there was a pub right below and you could hear people talking outside of it for quite a bit into the night. However it didn’t ruin the experience and we had quite a nice time. Would recommend.

I had to go to the bar to use my laptop, a beer is 6 pounds. I went to the pub across the street for great internet and 2 pound beers.

We had a nice chat with the very friendly innkeeper/bartender (we forgot to ask her name) and she also helped us to find a place for dinner in town since we arrived after their restaurant had closed. The room was on the small side but efficient and clean with a large ensuite bathroom. There is no lift so this may be less suited for older travelers or travelers with limited mobility. We greatly enjoyed our stay and would definitely recommend

Although this is a quaint old hotel there are some features that older travelers may not like. First there is no lift in this hotel, so unless you get a room on the bottom floor, you will be lugging your bags up some very narrow stairs. The hallways were narrow passageways to a small room; the door did not have a traditional handle, only a deadbolt-latch on the inside. It had a “hostel” vibe about the room. Downstairs was a tired version of old-world pub. The staff was friendly and understanding when we requested a cancellation/refund on our 3rd floor room

Only negative is that the bar can get a bit noisy, but we weren't bothered much by it. We did enjoy a delicious meal at the bar. Across the street is another bar which also can get a bit noisy, including setting off fireworks in the street. Since the noise only lasted a short time, less than 15 minutes, it was not worth complaining about to the manager. Overall, I'd recommend this property to anyone visiting the castle or the downtown area. When I return, I will definitely book again.
