As a resident in HK, we have visited Macau many, many times and in the past we had often preferred to stay in one of the luxury hotels in the Cotai Strip area. While the Galaxy block or the Wynn's Group would definitely give you the convenience and the hustle bustle of the shops, entertainment venues and restaurants, this time we decided to try something different. A hotel in Taipa, the Altira Macau.

Altira belongs to the same group as the City of Dreams and the Studio City. People would often prefer the latter two as they have more to do and eat there. For example, Studio City even comes with the latest and largest water park in Macau, where youngsters often flock to in the summer.

Altira, actually pales behind in the location as well as the facilities. It is situated in Taipa so it is not next to the big hotel complex in the Cotai Strip. It is a standalone building and it doesn't have any large venues or events or eye catching gimicks like cable cars, water parks or ferris wheels. To make it worse, it doesn't even have a connecting shuttle directly to the ferry pier or the airport. (you have to take the shuttle to City of Dreams or Studio City first)

BUT, for the same price or even cheaper, I got a massive 54 sq. Waterfront view room with a gigantic bath tub and a view of Macau and the bridges, I got to swim in the award winning infinity pool with a panoramic view over the Macau Peninsula, and i got to mingle with the locals in the residential area of Taipa

The room was beautiful and as advertised. Would definitely come back here. The layout of the hotel is a little strange though as the lobby is on the top floor and to access the guest rooms, you need to ride to the top first, then use a separate elevator to go down to the guest room floors.

the room is somewhat outdated compared to the exterior of the building. staff service at the front desk was a bit snobbish, did not answer our questions at all, they just ignored us. and not because they were busy.
and the pool was not opened for some reason, which was one of the features I wanted to come, you should have stated this on the web site.

The hotel has 3pm check in policy and your room isn’t ready, most of time. When one has one hour or so to wait, there is no immediate lobby lounge as in other hotels. I walked around the neighborhood during the heat, hot weather.

Outstanding Experience!

It was absolutely outstanding. The insane sweeping views of the Macau peninsula were the real show stealer. I loved the service, everyone spoke English well (you could tell their hospitality service was of the upmost importance.) I enjoyed the surprise tea brought to my room after I arrived and the personalized luggage tag upon departure. The hotel room was perfect, with a comfortable-clean-chic feel... and don’t forget the AMAZING infinity pool and spa. I partook in that multiple days, as well as the giant bathtub in the room. I would stay here again when in Macau.

The room is very spacious with living area, bed area and the bath room is amazing.
As I was visiting in December, weather is chill for swimming. But with indoor swimming pool, I can still enjoy it.
A minor disappointment for me is that, the casino has only 1 type of game with table, Baccarat, other games like roulettes has machine game only.

I was really impressed by the Front Desk at Altira. The check-in process was quick and efficient. The room I got was wonderful, with a nice partition for cloakroom adjacent to the bathroom. The bed was super cozy and clean. I can’t wait to visit there soon.

World Class Luxury!

There's nothing more I can say about Altira Macao besides extreme excellence. This hotel is not on Cotai Strip or in the heart of Macao Peninsula since it's on the Taipa side, but Macao is so small it's a short shuttle or taxi ride to get wherever you need to go. The hotel's amenities are absolutely top class. The staff is attentive and courteous, the restaurant options are fantastic. Every guest room has a magnificent view of the peninsula. The pool and spa are world class.

Yhis is the 2nd time staying in this Hotel. The room is modern. And I especially love the giant bathtub. The staffs are friendly and are very helpful.

The only complaint I have this time, and this is also the case in my stay in other hotels in Macau, as an obese individual who weight over 300 pounds, no hotels seems to be able to provide a bathrobe that can fit me. How hard it is to store a few big and tall bathrobes in the hotel just in case people of my kind show up?

But all in all, I will still come back to this hotel next time I am in Macau.

Lovely hotel room with harbour views. Large and comfortable beds with a luxurious bathroom. We used the spa facilities which were heavenly. The only potential downside is that the location is slightly further away from all the other casino hotels.

The room is extremely beautiful, modern and clean. The stafs are friendly and highly trained.

Unfortunately, there are a few problems.
a) The Free Shuttle between the Ferry Terminal and the hotel can be more frequent (40 mins to 1 hour is too long).
b) unlike many 5 stars Hotels in Macau, this hotel does not provide a mobile phone for guest to use outside of the hotel.
c) No Breakfast Buffet

Other than these, my stay in this Hotel is very pleasant.

It rendered an excellent service, giving prompt responses to all requests I made. Perfect facilities with a good gym room and swimming pool, which overlooked the three bridges and the river.

Yet, there were some stains on toilet floor, which I dared not guess what they were.

All in all, I enjoyed the stay, but it could have been even better if the stains were not there.

Fast, easy, efficient check-in and check-out. Hotel location, facilities, and room was great. Complimentary fruit, soft drinks and water was a nice touch. Staff were polite, courteous and accommodating. Only odd thing was that the lobby was on the top floor and you have to go back down to get to your room. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a hassle free, convenient place to stay in Macau.

Gorgeous hotel. Only issue is the over-powering aroma therapy scent the hotel pipes into the air from the moment you enter. Gets up in your head and after awhile becomes offensive. It’s everywhere!
Ordered a wake up call to catch a flight and it never came. That’s inexcusable for a hotel of this caliber.
Bathroom will blow your mind - you can almost swim laps in the tub!

Located in centrally of nowhere, the only good thing of this hotel is that you get comfort from the crowds in Macau. The hotel entrance is very small and hard to find, there is not a single sign around the building that you can find the hotel entrance.

The hotel wants to take money from your pocket in every aspect. I have never seen a hotel that will charge a fee for simple decoration for a special vaccation and remember the hotel called itself a \"5-star hotel\".

Room need renovation - you can just feel the sofa is dirty and stink.

The hotel is located in an area where you can access restaurants frequent by locals easily..A free shuttle bus will bring you to the general Taipa casino area in minutes.Fantastic view from our 11th floor guest room. My guess is all rooms have good view of the waterfront based on the hotel design.
The ground floor entrance can use some clearer sign between casino entrance and hotel entrance. Some security personnel can use some training in manner dealing with customers.
Overall, highly recommended..

Hotel layout’s focused on enticing gambling. The lobby’s on the top floor. All rooms’re on lower floors. From your floor, you have to walk through the gambling areas in order to leave the building. The only way around that is to go up to the lobby floor, then take the lift to the 1st floor. The room’s clean, but they only provide 1 pair of slipper and 1 bath towel. TV menu’s in Chinese.

I have traveled to many countries, Altira Macau is one of the best hotel I ever stayed. I booked the \" Waterfront View King\" room, and obviously was given a king sized bed. The room is big which comes with a Living/TV area c/w with a comfortable sofa set n coffee table. Next to it, is a full height glass panel window which overlook the Casinos and many other buildings. The view is amazingly beautiful especially when the buildings are lighted up in the night ! The room also comes with a huge rounded bathtub which is sufficient for 2 to lie down and 3-4 to soak (seated). another smaller size TV is also installed in the bathroom, I had a wonderful time soaking in the bathtub while still able to watch my favourite movies. Though I was told that the hotel is already about 10 years old, but it rather new and very well maintained. The room service was fantastically good ! I have never received such efficient room service ! Not to mention, we have our breakfast served on wheels sharply every morning at a requested time ! The staffs are friendly and helpful, and they never fail to greet you !
I shall be back !

All was perfect except for one thing: we booked a non smoking room and the room had an faint smell of smoke and we later realized our pajamas smelled of smoke. As non smokers, this was awful for us. This shows the previous guests did not honor the non smoking rules and the smell is probably stuck in the mattress.

Perfect experience at Altira!

Altira's representative returned to me promptly for my request on birthday surprise for my wife and offered me a complimentary birthday cake, asking me for details like our intended arrival time (for early checkin arrangement, although I didn't ask for it), words on the birthday cake and time for cake delivery, etc. Excellent pre-trip experience!

When we arrive, my wife and I received warm welcome from extremely polite staffs, and being offered bottled waters while checking in. Checkin staff explained clearly on the details, offered us a late checkout -1pm (again, we didn't ask for it) and we were so glad to know that sodas and bottled beers in the fringe are free of charge! (a plus for us)

Spacious and clean lift lobby, giving you a sense of luxury. Inside the room, we were so amazed by the extremely clean, modern and spacious room! The most eye-catching parts must be the lovely open-wide sea-view and the biggggg round bathtub which my wife and I enjoyed a hot bath on while watching a recent hollywood movie on the TV facing the tub, perfect set!

Comfy bed and sofa, wide collection of amenities, everything you can think of, they have it there.
Just 15 mins after we get into the room, hotel staff knocked on the door to offer us welcome hot tea and hours later in the afternoon, hotel staff knocked on the door again to offer us a big dish of complimentary fresh fruits!
Here it comes! Cake delivery exactly timed per my request! Thanks for this unforgettable exp, Altira!

Amazing - this hotel is totally service orientated

We stayed at Altira because we were visiting family just 150m away. It was not cheap but was worth every cent. The service was amazing, the room was exceptionally comfortable, the facilities were brilliant and to go to sleep and wake to that wide view across to mainland Macau was awe inspiring. We were lucky to have a fireworks display to view one evening which was a bonus.
Concierge and front desk staff were always helpful and greeted us by name, helped with getting taxis etc.
The hotel and casino have separate entrances so there is no walking past noisey casinos to check-in, I guess this would be particular good if you are a family. Check-in lobby is on Level 38 with direct elevator from ground. Accommodation floors are 18-36 with restaurants and leisure facilities below. So if you like a low floor room you will be out of luck at Altira.
My only nit picking comment would be that the free bottled water is very difficult to open, you need a very strong wrist action. My wife could not open them at all and I found them difficult but usually managed with the help of a towel.
Overall a great hotel and I would definitely stay again. Thanks to everyone for making our stay great.

Accessibility is a major problem. There is no shuttle to town centre or to the ferry terminal. Taxis were hard to get around the hotel. We end up taking the bus all the time.

Room is very large with stunning sea view. Staffs are very helpful. It's good for couples who just want a quiet place to relax as its location is quite remote from the entertainment and shopping areas.
As the hotel very young but I found there are some scratches already on some furniture. I think the hotel needs to keep check and do repairs and maintenance more often.

We got the best the reception area at around 6pm. The staff were busy but very attentive. Staff made sure we knew where all the facilities were and even noticed we were a little late got a dinner reservation in the hotel. They called the restaurant and pushed back our reservation. When we got to the room we were very impressed with the size of the room. We were soon given complimentary fruit platter and told we could have as many beers and soft drinks from the mini bar free of charge.

Very nice hotel. Staff was very friendly during the check in process. Unfortunately we encountered our restroom having issues. Staff was very accommodating in letting us stay in another room, but at the time we were willing to pay to get an upgraded room, but was told the staff member that all rooms in Altira were the same. Was a little disappointing to hear that considering I know Altira has other types of rooms. I was a little disappointed to hear that. Buffet is small but has a decent selection, the pool and gym are nice as well.

Nice and spacious room, comfortable bedding, excellent 180 degrees view of Macau, ocean and bay bridges. Several restaurants offer delicious dishes of different styles and levels, including the Michelin Star and the 38 Lounge. Not in the crowded areas, but transportation is convenient by taxi or multiple buses for a short distance to where most tourists would visit.
