Nice room, we paid for an upgrade and it was well worth the price. The streetview was charming and hotel has a little funky mod vibe. Dont expect luxury but the bed and bathroom were good and the towels were superb. Front desk was pleasant and responsive. Great access to a lively neighborhood. Only 10 minute walk to great shopping. We'd book again.

The room itself was quite dated, but its a neat hotel with a lot of history in a good area. The bathrooms were recently redone and very nice, and while the listing mentions no elevator, an original-to-the-building lift was great to get our bags to and from the room. It's definitely quite a walk from any transit, but there is a great selection of restaurants, bakeries and cafés nearby.

Perfect Charming Paris hotel!

We absolutely loved our stay at the Alba Opera Hotel. It is the most beautiful place we stayed and we found it very comfortable and welcoming. The staff were very friendly , patient and helpful. It was our last 5 days before leaving Paris and Europe so we were tired, a couple of us not feeling well, and sad! But this hotel was the perfect end to a fabulous journey and we appreciated so much the lovely coffee and croissants in the charming dining room. Beautiful atmosphere. The neighborhood has loads of great places to enjoy. Highly recommend!

Paris was unfortunately having a heatwave when we visited. With no AC, the nights on the 5th floor were really hot. The hotel did provide a large fan that helped tremendously. We loved the history and location of this hotel.

Clean but closer to 1 Star Service Unfortunately

After looking at the hotels.com pictures and booking the 3 star hotel based on her friends experience 10+ years ago, my wife was disappointed in many of the aspects of this hotel experience. Booking an executive room you expect a certainly level of standard and although clean and area itself nice, the room was closer to 1 star with no wardrobe or desk and 2 very small beds. A nice view from balcony and very clean but just not comfortable or the standard we would expect for the price paid. No wardrobe just a rail to hand clothes and the bathroom door would not close so period features are fine but they still need to work. The Hotels.com description mentioned a kettle but when asked at reception they were very rudely told we dont do that. Asked for additional pillows and also a rude NO answered and it was very hot in the room and surprise - NO to fans available as well. If you want clean and a nice area as well as 1 star service for 3 star price then this may be for you but definitely disappointing trip for not only my wife but her friends memories from 10+ years ago.

Really enjoyed my stay at this historic hotel where Louis Armstrong once lived. I loved the glam decor with black woodwork, photos of models, feathered lamps and red walls...Ooh la la! Walking distance from Montmartre, bars and restaurants. Historic elevator is very cool but it holds one person or one suitcase. Plan to use the stairs and enjoy the unique atmosphere of this place!

Charming. An older hotel with a good eye for unique decore. The 2 person elevator was a real treat, and a tight squeeze, but that was part of the charm. We were looking for non-American experiences in Paris, and this hotel did not disappoint. Red and black walls in the room were an adjustment but quite stunning, and the lack of a shower curtain, as we found with all of the hotels we stayed in Paris, Normandy, and the Loire Valley, took some getting used to. Perhaps its a French thing?

Liked the quirkiness of the decor, however the predominant use if the Adult magazine 'Lui' throughout the property made me think if it was a 'family-friendly' hotel after all !
The night staff was super amazing who brought the cake exactly at midnight as requested for my wife's birthday. Really appreciate. However, overall I found their staff to be unfriendly, rude at sometimes and needed sine training in customer service for sure.

Lilly in reception was awesome and helped us.
The property is old and the lift is only 1ft x 3ft but I like stairs. The rooms are spacious, TV did not work but every thing was clean and comfortable. We had ipads and WIFI worked fine.
NOT - the lighting in the room is not great so bring a torch.

Very close to station which made it very easy to get around. Staff were very kind and helpful - we weren’t going to the airport till later and they let us keep our bags there while we went sight seeing. There was very little lighting on the stairs which made it quite hard to see. Rooms were very clean. Overall excellent hotel in an excellent location.

Alba opera hotel is a small boutique hotel with a beautiful Parisian decor and very vintage looking.
Super cool lobby with fun wall decors and the tiniest elevator. Adorable!! i booked a room for one traveler( female) my room was super tiny but the cutest!! I’m very picky snd always travel with my own pillowcase and towels but no need, everything is very neat and clean. The pillow was very soft that’s my only complaint, Other than that everything else was wonderful! Also, thank you to the young lady at the reception desk in the morning both on 1/4 and 1/5, very friendly, sweet and knowledgeable. Thank you for everything, I absolutely enjoyed my stay at your hotel :)

beautiful hotel in a fantastic location. walking distance from gare du nord where the eurostar came in and walking distance to montmatre with lots of great cafes and shops close by.
the hotel has a great stylised interior with a quaint small old-fashioned lift to the 4th floor - we stayed in room 41 - 2 adults and 2 kids. and we’re really comfortable. staff were helpful. the area is very quiet and calm and a welcome respite from the hustle of Paris.

For my first trip to Paris, my husband and I wanted to stay in a unique boutique hotel with character rather than a chain hotel. Based on cost and availability, the Alba Opera fulfilled the brief.

The GOOD: Staff was cordial and accommodating. The room was sizable compared to our experiences in European boutique hotels (our room featured a main bedroom, side room with a twin bed and sitting area, and a small balcony). Parisian features--balcony, decor, and tiny elevator--were charming, and cheeky. The bed was very comfortable. The huge bathroom was updated with surprisingly modern subway tile. The BAD: The room's dark, rich color palette was great during the day when natural light was prevalent, but difficult at night when combined with the dim lighting. While we appreciated the wabi sabi decor, the room furniture was very worn and dilapidated--and not in a shabby chic way. The small cabinet had missing knobs and trim, the paint and wallpaper were peeling. The hotel could really use a refresh. The room was dirty; old pizza crust and hair found in the dresser drawer. The plastic cups were dirty and unusable. Lighting did not work consistently. There was no iron or steamer in the room, which meant a daily unkempt trot downstairs to borrow one (which worked intermittently). Hairdryers were provided, so why not small irons? Overall ok, but I will not stay here again. Rating of 6 out of 10.

An absolutely wonderful boutique hotel in the perfect location. Walked everywhere from the Alba. Our room overlooked the main Rue. Experienced a heatwave while we were there so the additional fan was really appreciated. Staff were friendly. The proprietor even lent us his personal umbrella on the one morning it rained. Absolute certainty we would rebook at the Alba Opera.

We stayed at Alba Opera Hotel for 5 nights late March to early April.

We had a very pleasant stay. We stayed in room 63 and our friend stayed in room 24. Both rooms had a good size for Paris and especially room 24 was spacious, it had a spare room and a balcony. Room 63 had an upstairs section for the double bed, making the living space in the room bigger. Room 24 had a bath in addition to a shower, and both rooms had bath gel and a hair/body wash which were replenished daily.

Both rooms had a kettle and mugs but no tea, coffee, or milk.

Room 63 had a fridge which did not work, but luckily we were able to give a small bag of some essentials to the fridge each day and they stored it for us in a communal fridge.

The rooms had an exceptionally informative information booklet about the hotel and surrounding area.

We only had breakfast one morning and found it tasty but not filling enough for our tastes: It consisted of a glass of orange juice each, a small pot of jam each, some butter, pastries and breads and tea, coffee or hot chocolate.

The people at the reception were all pleasant, friendly and polite.

The location is good with several metro lines and metro stops within a short walking distance.

For some people the photos on the walls might be a bit risqué, but we did not mind, they were still artistic.

The area around the hotel is quiet and the sound insulation worked well.

Overall we had a very good stay and would happily stay at Alba Opera Hotel again.

A hidden gem in the perfect location

The Hotel is a wonderful hideaway in an incredible location. The staff were brilliant from beginning to end and always made you feel welcome. Our Studio was at the top, which meant a ride in the smallest lift I have ever seen, but even that added to the whole Boutique experience. Every restaurant we discovered on the nearby Avenue des Martyrs was equally delightful, with excellent service and a real sense of being \"in\" Paris rather than just visiting. This is perfect if you want to be surrounded by Parisians rather than Tourists. It really is a hidden gem.

Very nice hotel, our room was perfect for our needs with two children. Large clean renovated bathroom with a tube. Rooms were nit renovated for a while but were big and well distributed. There was a teapot to make tea. The room windows were towards the yard so extremely quite. The building is a nice historical house where Luis Armstrong lived in the 30s. Walkable distance to palais Garnier. And we even walked from Marais (about 2,7 km).

Dark dark dark. 3 people at the front desk are nice enough. but need more training in customer service! Not enough light in room not enough access to electricity carpet took old an dingy coffee pot and cups but no coffee or tea

Out of date elevator- tiny. The door did not self-close…you had to manually close to send it back down. Sadly, 75% of the time people used and did not return accordingly

They say it used to be a brothel and want to make homage to that- which is not what discerning clientele are looking for
The worst deception is the use of the word OPERA
Let’s be clear- it is 100% not near the world famous opera
It is closer to Piaglle then the opera
Other issues include the room do not look like the pictures on line-ex… out room on line shows 4 pillows on the bed….we only had 2
They say there’s a restaurant on premises, which I looked for and never saw.
The info material in our room actually stated that we could get but they would order from a local place

Wonderful, quiet hotel - great home base.

We loved this hotel. The room was big and beautiful with an old-school classic charm. Giant windows let in lots of fresh air and the smell of fresh baked goods in the morning. The location on a cul-de-sac off of a quiet street made it extremely peaceful. The staff were wonderful. The neighborhood around is full of great shops, cafe's, and restaurants and a convenient market is just around the corner. Metro stops are 3-4 blocks in various directions, offering convenient access to various lines. It's half way between Gar du Nord and Saint-Lazarre. Not right on top of either, but a location that offers a lot of travel flexibility. If you want to be close to the tourist areas but not overwhelmed by the noise and bustle of them, this is a prime location.

Upon leaving we were offered coffee, we declined. Then offered again. We accepted, two coffees. Well, maybe complimentary, if not 2 or 3 euros (average price). The bill was 26 euros! Receptionist could not give a reason for outrageous bill. Called later in the day to speak with manager, left message. Also sent email. Manager did not return call or email. Still no explanation. I can not recommend this hotel.

The hotel itself looks a lot more vibrant in the photos. There is a restaurant but I never saw anyone in it, and I never saw anyone else in the actual hotel, to be honest. I imagined having a drink or food at the hotel, but it wasn't very inviting. The room itself is big for Paris but it did get very hot, and there is not AC. This was in April so it wasn't hot...that said, I wouldn't stay here in the summer. You have to open the window to get air flow, but it's awkward to leave it open at night because it's a very large window. The bed is very small and hard, given the size of the room. No coffee or tea in it but there is a kettle. The fridge is stocked with things you can buy but they are of course overpriced. Didn't try the breakfast. Area is a little far from things but easy access to metro and bus. Overall, it was fine, but I wouldn't stay again.

It was awful. A tiny little room. No air-con, not even a fan, although it said in the book that was in the room that there is one at every room. I went down to reception and the woman said that she can send me a small if I want...
This was in Sep 2018 in a nice part of Paris and it was quite expensive, no reason for it to be so lousy.
The tiniest elevator I've ever seen. I had a big suitcase and it hardly fit in with me. If you forget to close the elevator door, they call you to close it. Again, why do I need to worry about that when I go to a quite expensive hotel in 2019?
The sink got stuck after like an hour. I was too afraid to use the shower...
The TV setting was messed up, and because of that it was impossible to change it because you couldn't see. Why don't they make sure that the TV is set before someone checks in?
It was noisy.
I'll concede to the fact that I misunderstood the type of bed. English isn't my native language and I got confused, but, again, why am I getting such a small bed for what I payed? And some of the photos showed big beds. How can I know which I'll get?
I checked out the next day. I was in Paris for a long time and couldn't stay at that hole in the wall for so long. Payed lots of money for the other hotel, so I could really screwed over.
The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the reception people were nice.

I was looking for a hotel with a great historic feel. Alba is perfect. From the lovely tiny elevator, to the beautiful wrought iron work and the great location. Comfortable, a little dark and totally hip - the staff was pleasant and knowledgeable too. Don't miss breakfast in bed! It's scrumptious!

Traveled to Paris for a honeymoon and this hotel looked a lot nicer on the website than it did in person. It was very dark, the rooms were small and very basic. The bed was uncomfortable and the hotel walls were so thin you could hear your neighbors conversations perfectly. I was unhappy with our first room so I asked to have another room, we were given another room with a slightly more comfortable bed but was still unhappy with the quality of the hotel. They had a kettle with cups but no coffee or tea was provided. Very strange. Only good thing about this hotel is the staff were nice.

Comfortable and clean hotel. Felt safe. We had a Quad room. The website showed one double and 2 single beds, but it was one double bed and a full size pull out couch. With 4 friends on a ladies' trip, we booked here bec of the location, fun vibe of hotel and the local neighborhood, kitchenette with mini fridge, and ease of getting to sights of Paris. Lobby was fun decor too. Lift/elevator was super quirky and cool. Two of the receptionist gals were friendly and helpful, night guy not so much. We stayed 2 nights and really enjoyed the hotel. It is a great location if you plan on touring around, as it is very close to 3 subway lines and 4 stations.

The area is good too, and within a very short walking distance to Cadet metro that is on line 7, with great connections throughout the city.

There are some lovely cafes, bistros and restaurants a little further down the street.

The Alba is at the end of a cul de sac and quiet, in between Montmartre and the centre,with a useful variety of bars,cafes and restaurants. The hotel itself has character and probably the oldest smallest lift in Paris but the decor will be a bit risqué and non-pc for some tastes. Regrettably we did not take advantage of the Lovebox available from reception ! The staff were all friendly and helpful.

I've stayed in this hotel twice. The first time was great; the second time wasn't. The problem was the noise. When we stayed the first time we were on the courtyard side which is fairly quiet. The second time we were on the street side. There is a bar on the corner and because of the layout of the street it's like an echo chamber. Every sound is amplified. Like many Parisian hotels the building is a little rough round the edges and the sound travels fairly easily. We were kept awake by our neighbours' TV and could hear their conversations. We would have liked a lie in the next morning but the sound of garbage trucks and cleaners had us up by 8.30.

This is a shame because the hotel is chic and comfortable and the staff friendly. If it was not for the noise we would have enjoyed our stay. Ask for a non street-facing room; otherwise forget it.

Alba Opera is a lovely hotel with friendly staff. Very close to Gare du Nord and Pigalle. The hotel was full of character. Our room was simple and clean. Our twin beds were very narrow but had good mattresses and quality linen. Fairly quiet at night too. A good value hotel in the heart of Paris.

Unique Paris Hotel in Excellent Location.

Very nice indpendant hotel with a 'unique' style. The rooms are clean and spacious, ours slept a family of four with ease and had a small kitchen. The style may not be to everyones taste; black and red with a 60s bohemian theme. Staff were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. Location is excellent, 10 min walk from Gare du Nord, 5 min walk from Montmartre and just off Rue des Martyrs, full of cafes, restaurants, delicatessens and patisseries. Access to central Paris is very easy with four Metro stations very close. The lift is an experience.

It's in a great location close to the Metro.
I was in the top floor and it was great. I walked around Paris all day and it was nice to come back and relax on the couch with a beer from the mini bar. And walk upstairs to the bed. I loved this place

Great staff, good location but terrible condition.

I admit that in the hotels.com website, the photos of the bathroom were not shown and I took a risk by booking this hotel. However, the room I booked was called the \"Executive Room\" which made me assume that the bathroom could be at least at European standards.. The furniture was very old and in bad condition. The tiles of the bathroom floor were broken and the safe in the bedroom was not working. The windows were almost broken, but it was ok. When we asked that our bathroom was very different than those shown on the hotel website; they told us that we had to book a \"Junior Suite\" =) In addition, we were charged a bit extra because the hotel told us that if you stay in Paris, you have to pay something called City Tax... weird..

City Break. One Night Stay

Only stayed one night here with my family on the first floor (not much to see out of the windows). Facilities were as expected, large room for the four of us, clean, quiet, comfortable. The little Kitchen area could do with a little improvement. Cups and glasses supplied but no cutlery nor coffee/tea/milk. The only socket for the kettle was in the middle of the wall with no table/shelf near enough for it to stand so we used a socket in the main room.

Quirky little hotel

I had a single room for business. The room was very small but otherwise clean and up to date. I didn't try the breakfast but the location is good if about 10 minutes to the metro stops. I like the old fashioned lift in the stairwell and the staff were nice.

Family friendly boutique hotel in a great location

Stayed at the hotel for a weekend sightseeing trip to Paris with my family (2 adults and 2 children). We had a spacious suite equipped with a small well equipped kitchen. This is a chic and stylish boutique hotel in a great location - reasonably central but secluded in a quiet cul-de-sac with a nice selection of hip Parisian bars and restaurants right on the door step. Think David Lynch movie set and you'll get the general idea. Recommended for the antique 2 person lift (which our 2 year old loved) alone! The hotel is also well served by local bakeries and shops. Montmatre is a 10 minute stroll away with Anvers Metro station on the way. Special mention to the welcoming, efficient, friendly and very helpful staff.

Fabulous hotel - highly recommended

At the heart of a beautiful area that's exactly where you eoukd hope to be, the Alba Opera is the perfect romantic getaway hotel. I can't speak highly enough about its location, only a short walk away from the Moulin Rouge and Sacre Coeur! The hotel itself has a great feel about it. With a distinct Parisian charm, the rooms are lovely but a little worn, not to say that it takes anything away from your stay. The reception were wonderfully helpful and are open 24/7. I would highly, highly recommend this wonderful hotel!

Beautiful hotel a stones-throw from the city

Arrived for a single evening before a conference the following day. The hotel is located down a narrow road in what's practically its own cul-de-sac. As such, it's really quiet but a few minutes walk from the bustling city and nearest metro. The room was beautifully decorated, clean, warm and unlike anywhere I've stayed before. The lift was the aspect I'll remember the most. It was almost an antique and a pleasure to use.
The staff were friendly and helpful, and the reception is open 24 hours; perfect for late evening strolls. The breakfast was just the trick; continental with copious amounts of coffee.
Would I recommend? Yes. Would I stay again? Definitely.

Trendy, eccentric hotel. Location great.

Reasonably welcoming staff. We arrived 3 hrs before their 3pm check-in time, however they were flexible and had a room ready for us by 1pm which was good of them.
Our room was on 4th floor and due to a 1-2 person sized lift, found walking down stairs more convenient but too much leg work to go up 4 floors. The hotel has a lot of French character and you can really find yourself getting lost the eccentric theme of mysterious, sexy, warm lit, sensual atmosphere and decoration within the hotel.
It is quite personal and comfortable. The room we stayed in was quite small, but still comfortable. Clean, towels provided, radio, tv, mini bar, 2 hob cooker and microwave in the small kitchenette, which was unexpected.
Over all a pleasant, comfortable and reasonably priced hotel. We o plan to stay here again in the near future.

Hotel Alba Opera

Perfect choice of position 10-15mins walk from Gare du Nord (Eurostar) in a quiet cul de sac set back from road. Very nice local suburb with many Bistros, Brasseries, Cafe's for breakfast, lunch or dinner or just a drink. opera is an art district so many different interesting small individual shops. We walked to Montmartre (20mins) and also you can walk to main department stores Galleries Lafayette & Printemps. There are four Metro stations within easy access which take you to all areas of Paris without having to change trains. For example to the Louvres or Jardins Tuilleries was just 6 stops from Cadet Metro which is 10mins walk from hotel. Notre dame & Bastille areas were another 5 stops further on. Hotel staff warned about pickpockets on the Metro but we saw no evidence of this problem. Hotel staff were very pleasant and spoke English well if you require.Would definitely stay again.Warning - there are six floors and lift is extremely small so will only take two people at a time without luggage!

The theme is awesome and the staff exceptionally helpful and friendly. Could use a bit of renovation but who cares when the place is super cool, friendly, in a great neighborhood and clean,clean,clean! Very affordable too...

Huge potential

We used this for a long weekend and loved it for the most part. It seems like a very nice, family-owned hotel that's a breath of fresh air from identikit chain hotels. HOWEVER, they seem to be going through a renovation process that took us by surprise and that we could have done without the drilling and other noises during an afternoon nap. Also, the staircase carpets appear to be in the process of being replaced. Otherwise, this is a great little find and once these things will be ironed out, there's no reason to think flawless service can be expected there. The staff are friewndly, the area is nice, and the location is convenient.

Friendly, quirky hotel. Junior suite was good for a family of four with room to spread out, although the kitchenette didn't have any cutlery/crockery apart from 4 glasses. Very easy to get to from Gard du Nord. The children loved the old lift!

Nice hotel for a long weekend getaway. Prices are decent and the hotel is conveniently located between four metro stations. The hotel does have a old feeling to it, but its quite pleasant once you give it a chance. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The shower was very small, but the room in general was quite large. Unfortunately, the rooms were not sound proof, so we could hear footsteps and voices as people climbed up the stairs - quite annoying when you are trying to sleep.

From the raving reviews and pleasant photos, we would have never guessed this hotel hadn't been renovated since Alfred Hitchcock's filming of Vertigo. The cab driver had no idea where it was because it's tucked away on a dead end in not exactly a sophisticated neighborhood. The lobby was quirky and charming in a strange sort of way with 70's pin-ups and paintings, but as soon as we saw the elevator and staircase we wanted to turn and run. Baggage has to be sent up separately because the ancient elevator literally only fits two people side-by-side (and we're not big people), so claustrophobics beware. The lighting in our room was practically non-existent, such that we couldn't tell if our clothes were blue, black or brown. The bed, dressers, everything in the room was very old and outdated which for the right traveler I suppose could be charming, but if you're at all accustomed to hotels modern accomodations and design, this is not the place for you.

Hotel Alba Opera was perfect for us.

Friendly and helpful staff, the room we had was facing onto the small courtyard and was very quiet, the beds comfortable. Everything was clean despite the decor being a little dated in places. The Hotel is also walking distance from the Gare de Nord which was great, Overall this hotel suited our needs for the weekend perfectly.

Passade perfekt för min vistelse, inte superstort rum men det är inget jag behöver. Bra frukost (väldigt fransk) och personal 24/7. Jag kunde även lämna mitt bagage i några timmar efter ut-check. Detta var min första solo-resa och jag valde ett mycket bra hotell för detta :)

Achei o hotel muito legal , não tem muitos serviços além do quarto , mas o quarto em si estava sempre limpo e muito funcional , ficamos com nossos 2 filhos e achei perto de tudo ! Bem perto do hotel tinha um local muito interessante para tomar café da manhã … gostei bastante . O ponto negativo era que não tinha elevador (o que tem é bem pequeno cabe 2 pessoas e ele é bem antigo) mas achei charmoso ! Não tem ar condicionado então acho que para o verão fica bem complicado , como fomos no inverno foi muito bom
