Great place and super staff. Food good and all places had super great service. Need to rebuild the pool at castle as no skimmer and part of decking in the water. So oil and dirt on surface. Other pools were great. Of course the algae issues, not the fault of the hotel. Again the people and staff could not have been better. All really nice and helpful.

Mi experiencia en el hotel se vio gravemente afectada por un incidente muy serio. Durante mi estancia descubrí que faltaban aproximadamente USD 700 que tenía guardados dentro de mi mochila en la habitación. Informé la situación inmediatamente al hotel y solicité una investigación.

Lo más preocupante es que, tras reportar el hecho, no recibí ningún número de caso, reporte escrito ni constancia formal de mi reclamación. Considero que una situación de esta naturaleza requiere una respuesta rápida, profesional y documentada para brindar confianza y tranquilidad a los huéspedes.

Actualmente sigo esperando una respuesta oficial y una actualización sobre las acciones tomadas por el hotel. Mi intención al compartir esta experiencia es que se investigue adecuadamente lo ocurrido y que se refuercen los procedimientos de seguridad y atención al cliente para evitar que otros huéspedes pasen por una situación similar.

Espero que Expedia pueda dar seguimiento a este caso y colaborar para que reciba una respuesta clara y transparente.

Second time here and it’s still as amazing as ever. Service, cleanliness and food are top notch! Resort is a bit older than other resorts around and could use some updating but they keep everything extremely clean. I do wish Sanctuary Town was still part of the all inclusive package but unfortunately it’s not. Pools are great and the restaurant Wok is a must!

I recently spent several days at Sanctuary Cap Cana and had a wonderful experience. The property is beautiful, impeccably maintained, and offers a peaceful adults-only atmosphere that makes it easy to relax and recharge.

The highlights were the service, pools, and overall ambiance. Staff were consistently warm and attentive, and the resort felt luxurious without being overwhelming. The pools were stunning and quickly became my favorite place to spend the day.

A few observations for future guests: the beach is attractive but relatively small, and there was a noticeable amount of sargassum during my stay. If long beach walks or crystal-clear shoreline conditions are a priority, that’s worth considering. That said, the pool experience more than made up for it. I didn’t care to be honest.

Nightlife is fairly low-key, which I was okay with. Most guests seemed content enjoying cocktails, live music, or relaxing around the property rather than seeking a party atmosphere.

My room was beautiful, though I found the mattress less comfortable than expected for a luxury resort. Complimentary room service until a later hour would also be a welcome addition.

Overall, these were minor drawbacks in an otherwise excellent stay. I left feeling rested, refreshed, and very glad I chose Sanctuary Cap Cana. I would happily recommend it to travelers seeking a beautiful, relaxing, adults-only all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic and would strongly consider returning.

Quiero reconocer especialmente a Glory, de Casa Bella, quien siempre nos recibió con una sonrisa y tenía listo para nosotros un hermoso plato de frutas cortadas especialmente para nosotros, incluyendo mangos, que sabía que tanto disfrutábamos. También queremos agradecer a Juan, quien nos atendió durante nuestros desayunos y siempre fue amable, atento y profesional.

Un agradecimiento muy especial para Sheyla, quien trabajaba en el área de la piscina. Desde el segundo día de nuestra estadía, ya tenía nuestras toallas preparadas y nuestras sillas listas cada mañana. Ese tipo de atención personalizada hizo que nos sintiéramos verdaderamente bienvenidos.

The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful; however, the dining experience was quite disappointing and inconvenient. Due to the seaweed issue, the snack shack was closed Monday through Thursday, which significantly limited available food options. Additionally, the resort restaurants operated on rotating schedules, meaning not all restaurants were open daily. This resulted in long wait times at the restaurants that were available.

For example, our party of six waited over an hour to be seated at the steakhouse. The Italian restaurant required reservations several days in advance and was unable to accommodate us during our stay, and the wok restaurant was closed the entire week. As a result, our only consistent dining option was Sanctuary Town, which is not included in the all-inclusive package. Unfortunately, santuary town area felt very quiet and lacked activity

Another concern was the excessive pricing at the hotel shops and spa. One ring being sold for $150 USD at the resort was available on Amazon for approximately $20, which made the pricing feel extremely inflated for tourists. If you wanted to get a basic manicure or pedicure you are looking at spending over 100$

Lastly, I would not recommend visiting this hotel during the summer months if you want the beach, the beach was closed for the entirety of our stay due to an overwhelming amount of seaweed, which negatively impacted the overall experience.

We recently returned from a week at Sanctuary Cap Cana. Overall, our experience was mixed. The resort is visually striking, with architecture that feels far more unique and historic than a typical all-inclusive. We stayed in the Castle section, which was beautiful and full of character.

The best aspect of the resort was the staff. Nearly every employee we encountered was gracious, professional, and consistently went above and beyond to help guests.

The biggest issue was the sargassum seaweed. Large amounts washed ashore daily, piling several feet high across the beach. In the heat, it produced a strong sulfur-like odor noticeable throughout parts of the resort. Crews worked constantly to remove it using heavy trucks and machinery.

Unfortunately, our original room was beside the truck route, so for the first two days we dealt with nonstop noise, diesel fumes, and odor. When we requested a room change, despite the resort appearing far from full, the only option offered was a paid upgrade costing nearly $2,000 more on top of the roughly $7,000 we had already spent.

The upgraded room had incredible views and a private pool, but the pool was unusable for almost 48 hours because the water was dirty and eventually had to be drained and refilled. Management declined any compensation.

While the staff and architecture were excellent, management’s handling of these issues left us disappointed and unlikely to return.

My stay at the resort was overall enjoyable, but there were several issues that affected our experience.

Room:
Our room had a strong odor—similar to a wet towel or even cat urine—that appeared in the late afternoon and lasted through the night. This made it difficult for my wife to sleep on some nights, and it definitely took away from the comfort we expected.

Dining:
The Italian restaurant was disappointing. It didn’t offer traditional Italian dishes like chicken parm or other classics, which was surprising. Another frustration was that not all restaurants were open consistently. We often had to eat whatever happened to be available, and if we didn’t like the options, our only alternative was to pay out of pocket in Sanctuary Town. For an all‑inclusive resort, that felt unfair.
The buffet also wasn’t open late, except on Dominican night, which limited our options even more.

Beach & Grounds:
The beach wasn’t usable due to heavy seaweed, and the tractor cleaning it ran while guests were trying to relax by the pool. It took away from the atmosphere.

Positives:
The service at the pool was outstanding. Yeri and Oscar were truly world‑class, and Kaila at the Sun Shop was incredibly kind. The resort itself is beautiful, and the staff in those areas made a big difference in our stay.

Sanctuary Cap Cana was certainly our place of full relaxation. The resort does a great job of distributing areas to make you feel like you are not in one of those overcrowded places where they are maximizing numbers for profit at the expense of a true getaway experience.

We stayed in the castle portion so that also helped us be a little more secluded and feeling like we had our own slice of paradise. Each zone if you will has its own amenities and pools. Our vacation lasted 5 days and we tried each one throughout our stay. We liked them all for their uniqueness. The vibe we got was that Sanctuary is like its own little villa. As a matter of fact they have a section called Sanctuary Town which mimics this and has some additional overflow restaurants and ice cream parlor. Those are extra and not included in the all inclusive package but its quant and adds to the feeling you are in a small little town.

Overall, the food in the various (included) food service/restaurants was quite good although we were a little disappointed that periodically they would close one of the restaurants which limited choices, but we think this may have been b/c we went during their low season when they didnt have as many clients. Stars of their restaurants were the Italian restaurant (fancy/dress code), the Steakhouse, and Blue Marlin.

Staff are all very friendly and the place is beautiful. Our only complaint was the seaweed was AWFUL and they couldnt control it. So beach was unusable.

Rooms need to be renovated hooks are falling off the wall. There is no streaming on their TV with limited channels no movies to even purchase no nightlife no interaction with the staff during the day as far as bingo games or events sanctuary town used to be part of the unlimited, and now it’s à la carte, which should be expressed before you go there they were kind enough to acknowledge that, but it should be specified before you go limited places to eat. Rooms are beyond basic and need a renovation furniture stained. I have been there on two previous occasions, and since Marriott took over it is not good would not recommend this.

Worst experience ever.

From the very beginning, “no” seemed to be the staff’s favorite word. We were constantly told that reservations were unavailable and that the restaurant would be fully booked for days. It felt unwelcoming and frustrating.

However, I want to highlight Ricardo, Alejandro, and Frank, who provided the best customer service during our stay. They truly made an effort to help us with everything, including finding a way to get us into the restaurant despite being told it was impossible—especially Lilly, who went above and beyond.

Unfortunately, the overall experience was very disappointing. At checkout, when we expressed our concerns, the response we received was dismissive, suggesting it was “probably our perception because we were Hispanic,” which was extremely inappropriate and concerning.

My friends and I traveled from Florida with high expectations, but we left feeling let down. This hotel seems to focus more on appearances than on genuine hospitality and respectful customer service.

This was our 2nd trip back to Sanctuary Cap Cana, and was possibly better than the 1st. This property is stunning. The architecture in every inch of this place is beautiful. We upgraded to the castle this trip, which was perfect for what we wanted: quieter, more romantic, close to the spa and gym, an easier access to walk Juanillo beach. The castle pool was always quiet with gentle Caribbean music playing, and a beautiful breeze up high, so it didn’t feel too hot. Gorgeous views of the turquoise waters as well! Food was amazing in our opinion, we loved The Wok, Blue Marlin, and Italian. Steakhouse could be improved by offering some different appetizers, but was still great. The service and staff that work there are so pleasant, calm, and truly seem happy to be working there. The beach is smaller, but we walked to Juanillo beach daily, which was not an issue at all - just give your room # to the security at the gate near the castle. When we were here last time (~2 years ago), the Sanctuary Town was included in our all inclusive. It is now not included, which was a bit disappointing, as we remember it was very lively and fun to saunter around to grab a little dessert after our reservations. We purchased the pizza, but did not want to pay additionally for meals, when there are restaurants included in our stay. Overall though, If you want a calm, relaxed atmosphere with not too many activities/party music, it’s a perfect resort for couples who want to relax and reset.

My stay was very good overall. The room was comfortable and well-kept, and I had no major issues during my time there. The staff was friendly, and the drinks were excellent, which definitely added to the experience.

The food was also very good, but I would have liked to see the buffet open for longer hours, especially in the evening. Having a buffet option available more consistently would make a big difference for travelers.

Housekeeping was a bit slow to respond at times, but nothing that negatively impacted my stay. I didn’t get a chance to explore everything on the property, so I can’t speak to the casino.

Overall, a very enjoyable stay with just a few minor areas for improvement. I need definitely stay here again in the future!

El resort es muy bonito y las personas amables. En el área de la piscina no nos atendieron como se espera en un resort de este nivel. Pedí ayuda varias veces para encontrar un lugar donde acomodarnos, respondían que no había y seguían conversando entre ellos. Su actitud contrastaba con la amabilidad de algunos meseros y de los mayordomos.

El check in fue muy largo. Sucedió algo que nunca nos había pasado en un resort de esta categoría. La persona que nos atendió, con mucha energía y amabilidad empezó a vendernos un upgrade de la habitación reservada a una suite monarca. Se puso a negociar con nosotros. Finalmente accedimos pagando $ 1,000 más. Sentí presión, algo inusual. La habitación del upgrade efectivamente era muy espaciosa, pero más vieja que la que habíamos reservado. Originalmente reservamos Ocean view y nos convenció que esta tenía Beach front. Pero no podíamos salir a la playa desde la terraza. Solo verla. El gran plus, eso sí, fue el mayordomo. La villa estaba un poco sucia y esperamos más de una hora poder entrar porque la estaban limpiando. El secador de pelo hizo un extraño ruido y corto circuito. El problema fue atendido de inmediato por nuestro mayordomo. Denota falta de revisión de las amenidades. El hotel es bello, la comida en Blue Marlin, Wok y el restaurante italiano deliciosa. Quizás si no hubiéramos accedido a la negociación del upgrade, y hubiéramos estado en la luxury ocean view suite originalmente reservada, la experiencia hubiera sido distinta.

Resort is absolutely beautiful. Our room was spacious with a gorgeous view of the ocean. There were many pools with different vibes and views. Wow. This was a perfect place to wind down and enjoy a relaxing beach vacation away from the winter weather.
My only reservation was that the restaurants were good but not great. Our favorite was Blue Marlin, which was in a beautiful location overlooking the ocean. The two specialty restaurants on the property were OK but not wonderful. (we never made it to Wok unfortunately). I think Marriott should work to upgrade the food options here and the resort would be perfect.

I got charge for a meal I had in the town which got charged to my room when I left cash on the table at the restaurant. The front desk people maybe the guy thought it was tip. I’m like the waiter never made it clear to me that this would get charged to my room. The front desk said they would find out what happened and get back to me and if the waiter declines the story they will charge my card. Which is what happened. I did not appreciate that.

Our stay at Sanctuary Cap Cana was great and very relaxing. We stayed in the Castle, and while the first room we were given had a stunning view, it needed some TLC. The room felt musty, and the bathroom AC was leaking. We informed Hector, our butler, and he immediately took care of the situation.

Thanks to Hector’s quick action, we were moved the next day to another room, which we absolutely loved. Hector was truly outstanding—attentive, proactive, and genuinely committed to making our stay perfect. His service made a significant difference and greatly enhanced our experience.

We would also like to recognize Juan, who took excellent care of us at both Blue Marlin and the Wok Restaurant, and Oscar, our pool server, who consistently provided friendly and attentive service.

We previously stayed at Sanctuary Cap Cana in January 2023, and at that time the food and entertainment felt stronger. While the food and drinks were just ok this time, there is room to elevate it further to better match the luxury level of the resort. Additionally, updating the main pool music with a more modern, island-inspired playlist would greatly improve the overall atmosphere, as the current selection felt somewhat outdated.

Overall, a very enjoyable and relaxing stay, thanks especially to the exceptional service—particularly from Hector.

The room was spacious and clean. (Although the cleaning staff did attempt to steal my iphone charger)...
The food was \"average\" except the Wok Restaurant, which was great!
The grounds, the pool layouts, and the beach were so beautiful. The pool was too cold though..
Above all, the service was excellent! Always someone asking and watching for anything you might need. (Except the checkin process was exceptionally time consuming and not streamlined.)

The staff was amazing and the food is excellent. The views of the sea are spectacular. The property is next to an incredible beach just outside the resort with almost no people. The one negative is the lack of activities - no golf, no snorkling, no hiking, no tours, no game room so you get stuck on the resort, which can get very boring after a week. The villas are private but the rest of the resort especially the new buildings are a bit like being on a cruise ship and quite crowded.

I give this property a 3.7. TV was broken and the maint guy, just shoved the cable in, rather then fix it. Towl bar was also broken, he reinstalled it and it fell without even puting a towl on in. When you ask a question to 95% of the staff, they can only answer qestions if it is their job, with very broken english. Example, ask a resturant greater how to get somehere on property, ie, the closest restroom, they have no idea what you are talking about. All inclusive means all inclusive, but not here. Excellence is a true All Inclusive. Will not stay again.

The resort set up is very beautiful a the grounds are amazing. The gym and the spa both excellent. The concierge wasn’t great at all. The food is not amazing. Only 4 restaurants and a few days two of them were closed. Ridiculous fo a resort. Sometimes you needed a reservation and sometimes you didn’t. Very confusing. The food at the restaurants were average at best. The employees and staff all so incredibly helpful an friendly. We’ve stayed at the Iberostar there and the food was so much better. They really need more places to eat and better food.

Beautiful Room, fantastic friendly Staff.
Food wasn’t great and the entertainment left a lot to be desired. The beach was closed due to excessive seaweed, so we received a great upgrade to a bungalow on the beach.
Overall it was a lovely hotel with nice pools to relax around and great staff. Pity the bland food didn’t match the service.

Property was outdated. Pictures shown on Expedia must have been taken when the property was first built. Staff was friendly, but seemed to be under trained. With the exception of one restaurant, the food was just OK. The location of resort is beautiful. We stayed in the villa which was oceanfront and it was wonderful to listen to the waves all night long and with the sunrise coming in through the window. As for being all inclusive, it felt like they offered bottom of the line, food and beverages and have a lot of options to upsell you on, which is not the experience that I’m looking for in an all-inclusive resort. There are definitely better all inclusive options for the money that they charge.

The resort was wonderful. My favorite part was how clean everything was. Housekeeping not only cleaned well but every day they would come by later in the evening and ask if we needed any towels, etc.
The food was also good. 5 different restaurants where you can dine but be aware you have to make reservations for two of them.
The staff were great too! Amazing service and friendliness!
Overall good place if you are looking for a chill and relaxing place to spend your vacation. As the property isn’t very big and the beach is very small too.

Our stay was absolutely phenomenal from beginning to end. The room was immaculate, the food and drinks were exceptional, and the ambiance throughout the property was nothing short of perfect. We truly couldn’t say enough about how much we enjoyed our time here.

But what truly elevated our experience was the outstanding wait staff. The service was warm, attentive, and consistently above and beyond. A special thank-you to Super Yery, Ricardo, Emilio, and Alejandro at Wok, Felix at Capriccio, Omar and Natasha at the pool, and Jarol at the disco. Each of them brought genuine kindness, professionalism, and personality to every interaction, making our stay unforgettable.

We left feeling incredibly grateful and already excited to return. Highly, highly recommend.

I would have gladly rated this resort a full 10/10, but a few operational gaps impacted the overall value proposition.

First, the beach was completely closed. My primary decision-driver when booking was the ability to enjoy the ocean steps from my room, and that expectation was not met. The closure was attributed to “beach renovations,” but this was not disclosed at booking, which created a clear misalignment between the marketed experience and the actual guest journey.

Second, although the property positions itself as an “All-Inclusive Luxury” resort, several on-site restaurants required an additional fee to dine. That felt off-brand and diminished the all-inclusive promise. The same applied to certain drink options—unexpected upcharges that created friction in what should have been a seamless experience.

Lastly, during one of the evenings, the resort hosted a Christmas event in the Sanctuary town for an additional $30 per person. Again, if the resort is positioning itself as fully inclusive, it’s difficult to justify incremental charges for on-property events.

Overall, the resort has strong potential, but these inconsistencies diluted the luxury value and impacted the overall guest experience. I do want to give a special shout-out to Alejandro from the Wok restaurant, and Denni from Blue Marlin who delivered truly exceptional service. Their professionalism, attention to detail, and above-and-beyond approach elevated every touchpoint of our dining experience.

This is my third solo trip, my second to The Dominican Republic, and unfortunately, I was wildly disappointed with my experience at Sanctuary. For an all-inclusive, I expected most things to be “all-included,” but there was a price of $10 to be paid every single time when ordering room service, something I haven’t encountered before. Although I was told that it wasn’t for the food, but for the transportation, it was disappointing considering the quality of the food. The breakfast potatoes were incredibly salty, overcooked, whereas the eggs and French toast were not appetizing. The restaurants such as the Blue Marlin and The Steakhouse had good food and I was pleased with it! However, the Sanctuary Town which consists of multiple restaurants were not included at all, which was another disappointment due to the price that was paid for the trip overall. Additionally, the jacuzzi on my balcony did not work and I did not bother asking for it to be fixed, because after viewing the state of the actual tub, which was dirty, I did not want to use it anyways. The staff were kind, particularly the lovely ladies at the cafe in the lobby, but apart from that, there is not much memorable about this resort. Personally, I would not return.

We just returned home from an absolutely fabulous vacation! The grounds were beautiful, but the staff truly made the vacation amazing. From Nicole at the check in, Felix, Miguel, Omar, Abel, Elvi, and Omar by the pool, to Galen and Daniel at the spa, everyone was incredible! Big shout out to Roberto, at the Blue Marlin and the Italian restaurant, your VIP treatment and wonderful smile helped make our 20th wedding anniversary trip spectacular! Our stay at this resort exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel genuinely welcomed. Every interaction was warm, attentive, and professional—whether it was the front desk, housekeeping, or the restaurant team, everyone went out of their way to ensure we had an amazing experience.

The entire resort was spotless. You can tell the staff takes great pride in keeping everything beautifully maintained. Our room was immaculate, the common areas were pristine, and even the outdoor spaces were kept in perfect condition throughout our stay.

Beyond the cleanliness, the service stood out the most. The team was always quick to assist, offered helpful recommendations, and constantly checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. It made the stay feel personal and truly special.

Our ocean view suite was beautiful. The housekeeping and concierge staff was amazing. The star of our pool side service was Omar. His service was over the top. He made us feel like we were the only people at the pool. Other servers were not as attentive on service and cleanliness around the pool. On the days that Omar was not working, pool staff walked by pool trash such as cups, leaves and a lime. The lime sat by the edge of the pool for two days. The best restaurant on site was Capriccio the service and food were excellent. The Wok also was very good. Service at the Blue Marlin was lacking and the staff tried to pass swordfish off as the red snapper. All in all we had a wonderful time.
