The adult only side was wonderful for a senior lady. Food was good. Short walk to the beach and very close to the pool and buffet. Shuttle service to the reservation restaurants. Staff was very friendly and helpful. I never used the Spa but it looked very clean and well staffed.
All in all a wonderful vacation.

The rooms were very clean, though there was no door between the toilet and the room which was not something we were emotionally prepared for, lol.

Staff was okay, but inconsistent in quality and there were some lapses like wrong drinks, my partner not getting his appetizer at dinner, and our reservation for dinner being cancelled without them letting us know one night. We also got a pretty hard sell on their Travelers Club which went well over the 90 minutes quoted. They did take our no at the end very well and didn't push though. Entertainment offerings were quite good, music and dancing in the evenings. The beach massage was excellent.

The beach was lovely, but the coconut trees are not consistently trimmed and we had one smash onto the ground a couple feet from us on the path which freaked me out a lot.

Overall, it was an enjoyable stay.

The staff is so amazing. Definitely among the best care i have received in many trips to pc in different resorts. Extremely clean. The rooms are due for some upkeep but everything worked and nothing looked old or beat up. Good pool w pool bar, great beach area. Restaurants are good as well. Can be a little tough to get resevations to the a la cartes but we got to try 4 during our stay. Mama mia was my fav and we loved beloved for breakfast and lunch. Big shout out to , Carlos and Leonel at the pool bar, Ana in reception and Hansel in entertainment jaycee from beloved, they really made my birthday trip feel extra special.
The small fee of royal within the much larger catalonia complex was a really nice personable touch. Will be repeating later this year

visited for my 30th birthday and it was amazing. the staff across the entire property was so friendly and happy to help or give directions at any moment. the pools and beach were well maintained and refreshing. the dining options were plentiful, with a mix of buffet as well as sit down menu options. the night life is so much fun with plenty of music and bars to enjoy for dancing.

Positives: Weather was fantastic, travel time for us was great, staff are very helpful and happy. Pools and beach are very nice.

The food was average at best, often very bad - over cooked, served lukewarm. The best food we had throughout were at the BBQ / Paella at the adult beach - fresh & delicious.

The practice of people 'reserving' pool and beach chairs by placing towels at 6-7 am is ridiculous and should absolutely not be allowed.

The beach area reserved for privileged guests has the worst wifi signal in the entire resort - unusable.

The room would have been very nice but is is aging - e.g. the sliding doors are literally falling apart, the re-grouting in the bathroom areas is very unprofessionally done - with black mould in places.

We were offered a shower & changing room to reserve as our departure was late in the day - a very nice service. We had a 20 minute time slot but when we went to use it, ia room was not available. They then sent us to the Spa which would have been great except they had no towels. Awful experience to end our visit.

Wilmer was the person on charge of help us with dinner reservations and provide us with general information about the hotel, he was very friendly and respectful he spoke very well English. The property was in good condition. Really, we accomplish our goal: to rest. We scheduled a very relaxing massage by the beach. I love that hotel offers a variety of restaurants to choose from. Also 20 min from the airport it was perfect.

Second time there, but we where disheartened with the lack of bar service at the pool areas. Last year we were asked about drinks several times throughput the hour. This time, about once an hour.
The staff within Beloved were very shourt handed and took almost 30 minutes to get water or soda after sitting down.

My spouse and I chose this resort for our honeymoon and were really looking forward to a special experience. Unfortunately, our stay did not meet expectations.

When we checked in, the front desk staff did not provide a clear explanation of the resort amenities, activities, or dining options. As first-time guests, we felt left to figure everything out on our own.

We also mentioned that it was our honeymoon, but there was no acknowledgment or small gesture to make the stay feel special. While we understand that not all properties offer complimentary extras, a simple acknowledgment would have gone a long way.

When we raised our concerns, the manager seemed to immediately side with the staff member rather than listening to our experience, which left us feeling dismissed.

Grounds are beautiful! You have to fight for a chair at the pools every day, despite signs up saying you can't reserve chairs longer than 45 mins.

The staff make this place. This was our 11th visit and we have rebooked for October. Apparently the resort was at 100% occupancy and you could tell from our usual October trips. It was difficult to get pool side seats at any at the pools even the beach at one time was full.

The only major complaint I have that the resort should deal with are the dogs hanging around the Bloved restaurant. I love puppies as much as the next person but not when I’m eating out.

Food was great, again we did have difficulty getting in at the restaurants but once there treated like rock stars by staff and food was varied and tasty

Happy to go back in October to see our Dominican friends.

Absolutely loved our stay! The staff was so friendly (shout out to Ana from reception). Our room was so nice and comfortable, including a huge tub (we appreciated since their hot tub on sight is only by $$). The beach was beautiful and had a sand bar that went out so far but there will be seaweed on the beach each month but it’s still gorgeous. The pools, restaurant's, and bars are lots of fun and I appreciated the ample amount of mocktails and coffee drinks. We did a buggie excursion and snorkeling both were great. Karaoke night was our favorite!! Thalassa had our favorite servers including Juan and Angel. Highly recommend!!

There were many things that we enjoyed about our stay. The room was huge and kept very clean. The pool was lovely. The sitting areas for eating and lounging were beautiful and the property itself was meticulously landscaped and maintained. However, we were disappointed with the food as well as some of the service.

Disclaimer - we are very into dining experiences and are selective with where we choose to eat when we dine out. We value great food more than the average person. That said, the average person may find the food here great! We did not. Nothing had great flavour, and all of the meat and seafood was overcooked. The salad bars were fresh and the fruit was lovely, so we enjoyed that.

The service was inconsistent. For the most part, everyone was friendly, but nobody spoke English very well. Also, when we booked our taxi for our transport back to the airport, they dropped the ball and we had to wait, which was stressful.

We won’t be staying at this resort again, but many people I’m sure would love it.

The pools were great, but guests stake out the loungers before the sun comes up. There is always room on the beach. Beautiful warm beach with soft sand & warm shallow water.

Room was good, a little dated but we expected that. The various foods available are excellent. The staff is very friendly and courteous. Amenities are great with the availability of two pools or the beach. Housekeeping was very inconsistent as was great for about 8 days, leaving the right amount of towels, stocked fridge and clean room. It went quickly downhill for the last 4 days like leaving only one fresh towel for the whole room, an almost empty fridge other than water and not cleaning any garbage or ashtrays.

Staff was amazing, amenities were very clean, but our room was very rubdown compared to others in our group. Beach was lackluster due to winter seaweed everywhere. Food was 2/5 stars at most places. However the Italian Restaurant, Thalassa & Steakhouse were 4/5 stars for our group of 12. So much more to do on the family side of the resort. The entrance and lobby on the adult side did not feel special or all inclusive or make you exited. The family side entrance & lobby was gorgeous & impactful. Lots lots of selling on the beach so bring a book to not be bothered. We did 3 excursions and loved it all, but hands down La Hacienda was the best experience & pricing- even their picture package was awesome. All in all it was a great experience but the amazing staff are what make this place!

The staff was nice and very friendly. The food needs much improvement. We had a pool room, so we liked to sit around our pool and just have a drink or two. There were no liquor in your fridge. We asked for ice for the room at the front desk and never got any. We ended up having to take our ice bucket to a bar, tip the bartender to get ice. The lady cleaning our room was friendly and nice. We asked her for extra Coke Zero but she could only give us what she could. So for a couple of days we got two, but most of the time we got one and some time none. We also had a day with no water, so we couldn’t even brush our teeth. There were signs saying don’t drink the tap water. When I was asked by others, if we would ever return, I am sorry to say, but no.

I am here now and I love the adult side! The ambiance is great.. there was a gentleman playing sax and a female playing violin.. different nights but each an 1.5 hrs long during dinner.. they were enchanting.. the adult side is so laid back and relaxing...quiet atmosphere.. the adult pool closest to the lobby is packed. By the time i walked to breakfast at 715, 90% all the chairs were taken. They do a lot of activities during the day there and that bar was pretty good.. the housekeeper was great. She snuck in and left my husband extra beers in the frig, would empty the garbage regularly throughout the day, turn down service plus she had flowers decorating the room for me!!
I had a great nap in the patio in my hammock.. had to ask to have them set it up but the day ut rained in the afternoon it was a perfect way to nap before returning to the beach!

Yes there is seaweed.. but the men are out there at 630 ( i know cause I was there to watch the sunrise) cleaning everything up and then after truck came to haul it away.. then the snuck in right after lunch to do it again.. so when you walk in the water tjere is about 3 feet wide you walk through , then you're good..
I'll take that over snow any day!
- bring a cup or buy 1 there! The provided cups are regular size but the will fill up your 24 Oz cup also so it limited the times back and kept it much colder.. the drinks melted quick in the sum!
I can't wait to come back..

This was beyond frustrating by day 4, but it seems perhaps the door is a lemon as they weren’t able to fix it - though they definitely did try! Otherwise - we had an incredible experience. COCKROACHES. MISMANAGEMENT. MANIPULATED REVIEWS.

When we arrived at the resort, shortly after settling in, we found cockroaches in our room. We immediately complained and were moved another room. Unfortunately, the problem followed us, and this time we found cockroaches in the shower.

After multiple ignored complaints, we went to the main office to speak with a manager. We were told he would help us, but he never showed up.

Only after three nights of repeated complaints we were finally moved into the suite that we had originally booked and paid for to begin with!

Management showed zero urgency or accountability. Once they had our money, they simply did not care.

To make matters worse, a staff member later approached us and asked if we were enjoying our stay and requested a review. After scanning a QR code, she took my phone and selected FIVE STAR ratings across all categories without my permission, then encouraged me to submit the review.

We also spoke with other guests who confirmed they had cockroaches in their rooms as well.

This hotel appears far more focused on manipulating reviews and making money than giving people the experience they paid for.

The Catalonia Royal Bavaro is a beautiful resort with lots of restaurants and amenities. I chose a privileged room for the added perks, but aside from the closer distance to the beach, we didn’t take advantage of any of the perks (discounts on spa/dinners). The room itself was large and spacious, but not well lit. The location may have been shaded, but the lighting inside was very dim. The beach was full of pretty palm trees which provided a lot of shade, but there was quite a bit of seaweed along the shore. We explored the family resort for more dining options and the beach/pool. The family buffet had excellent variety for dinner. Tao Cat and Bloved had tasty options for meals, but Sorrento’s pizza was not very flavorful. The NYE buffet at Thalassa had delicious variety as well. The employees including bellhops, servers, and security personnel were welcoming, friendly, and attentive! They care about providing the best service.

We requested late check out which was included in our reservation based on availability. We asked the night before and were told to check the day of check out. We then called the morning of check out and were asked to come to the lobby which was a bit of a walk from our room. When we arrived, we were told we could not check out an hour late. We understand limited availability especially around the holidays, but were frustrated that we weren’t simply told “no” when we called. Aside from front desk difficulties, we had a wonderful stay!

So we were here for 5 days me and my 2 friends stayed in 2 rooms here. After the first day one of the rooms air conditioner was stuck on freezing and there was no way to fix it, then there was no hot water for the remainder of the stay, this resulted in me being sick on my second to last and last day. Most of the food was not good/cold. Most of the staff were unhelpful and rude. At the restaurants my friends asked for water multiple times and the wait staff never brought anything. They were also overall just unfriendly with the exception of the staff in the lobby/front desk. Also this was advertised as an adults only resort however that isn’t entirely true there is a connected adults only part of the resort so we were still bumping into children which is what we tried to avoid by booking an adult only. They had a lot of on resort events but most of the ones we tried to go to didn’t happen. (Mainly the ones during the day) We also ran into the problem where certain vendors would run out of stuff for example the coffee shop would be out of key ingredients.

There were 2 restaurants that were really good and the resort itself was beautiful. The pools were nice and there was enough places to swim in the ocean, with complementary Kayaking, Windsurfing, and Paddleboarding. The nightclub was cool a couple hours into it being opened and the coffee shop was pretty good. There were plenty of bars and overall the drinks were really good and the Bartenders were able to make most drinks.

food quality was not very good and the rooms need maintained better. we had a private pool and the water was ice cold. the toilets, bathtub, air conditioning, and resort website barely worked. the liquor choices are ok, you have to pay extra for middle-line stuff like jack daniels. you will constantly be harassed on the beach to buy something and we saw someone steal a pair of airpods from someone staying at the resort (was not a resort worker). the actual resort workers are extremely friendly and do their best to help you have a good time. this was not what my fiancé and i expected, we were in cancun 6mo ago and it was better and cheaper. the resort itself is beautiful but some of the amenities and food/alcohol choices need to be updated.

The staff was amazing! Food was pretty good specially the dinners. Watch out for the tour sellers on the beach once you give them your money and you want to change something its not the easiest thing to do on the other hand they are much cheaper than the guys in the hotel for scuba diving hotel asked for $220 and the beach people did it for $150. Everything outside the resort seems very scratchy but all the people were nice and everybody was safe. Will definitely go back

First thing off the plane I was rob of 150 by being told it was for excursions for me and my wife then lied that the guy that grab our bags for amrstar group would get us to our resort only to give him 35 bucks and he dropped us off at end of airport were I was charged 35 to be taken to the resort. Then after getting there and explaining to my reap he told me he would get my money back the next morning only to be tricked into doing a time share tour with the other place with them and still only received 100 of my money and a coupon book all in all please take you'll time and don't trust these people we go there to enjoy what little time we have and spend our money on what we want to do not to be took advantage of. I won't be returning back there anymore

The property is beautiful, but if you are looking for a beach front resort- this isn’t it. The beach is tiny and full of seaweed and debris. Plus, there’s never enough lawn chairs for the guests.
There is very little entertainment besides yoga, swim aerobics and maybe a singer in the evening.
We only got to try 3 restaurants because all the other ones were booked our entire stay. Room service food is horrible. There are no places to get snacks except a food truck with limited hours. Some of the staff were very nice but half were rude. There’s never a vacation vibe going around the pool with upbeat music. It’s silent most of the time. Food is mid in the restaurants- wine is extra. Drinks were mid too. They also were not accommodating at all when our flight was canceled and we had to push our arrival back a day. They said there was no manager on duty until Monday and the policy was to cancel our entire trip to be a no show. Thankfully Expedia stepped in on that one.

Unfortunately our experience did not align with the very high ratings we relied on when booking.
We saw cockroaches in our room on two separate occasions. On our first day, the air conditioning would not turn off, and after insisting on a room change, the door lock in the new room did not work, leaving us locked out for several hours until I demanded a supervisor’s assistance.
The food quality was very inconsistent and at times almost inedible. The drinks were also poor quality throughout our stay.
What concerned us most was something we personally witnessed that helped explain the high ratings. While dining at the BLoved restaurant, the host approached my sister-in-law and asked her to leave a review. She was told to scan a QR code, which opened Google Reviews, and the staff member selected “5 stars” on the phone before handing it back and asking her to write something about the service. This explained why so many reviews mention staff rather than the overall resort experience.
There were some positives. The beds were fairly comfortable, the rooms themselves were not bad, and the resort grounds are pretty. The staff were generally nice, the hot water was good, and we did find one fairly decent restaurant on site, Thalassa. However, there was a lot of seaweed, the water was murky, and overall the quality of food, drinks, room issues made this stay disappointing. Based on our experience, the online ratings did not accurately reflect what we encountered.

This was our second time here and it did not fail to amaze!
All the staff was great and courteous, the entire facility was CLEAN and well maintained, the food was excellent, and the liquor (for those who drink) is excellent and unlimited.
We're already planning our return trip!
Highly recommend everyone to check this place out!

Meals were delicious; service was top-notch! Pools were beautiful, drink were cold and tasty. Sand on beach was fluffy; lots of seaweed unfortunately. Many activities took place on the family size. Night club is located on the family side too. Adults only was serene and subdued.

Service horrible, false pictures , not the room you get. Dusty blankets made me so sick and triggered my allergies. Staff was not cooperative at all, gave us the room that we had booked anyways later and made it sound like an upgrade. When asked for compensation tried to give free dinner and made it sound like a favor when everything was all inclusive anyways and tried to get us to sign a paper to say just bc we are accepting the dinner we release the hotel of all the liability for me getting sick from their dusty blankets and for all the inconveniences. When I complained to hotels.com about it and they tried to intervene the front staff kept on disconnecting the phone on them and never got the manager on the line

Great time with my wife, enjoyed the scenery and the staff was very nice throughout the trip! Food options were awesome as well! I was able to enjoy both side of Catalonia as well. Entertainment was also top tier, each night my and my wife were able to visit different bars and the theater to enjoy our night time at the resort!

Beautiful resort with multiple dining options to choose from each night. The staff are very friendly and welcoming from all departments. Housekeeping does a remarkable job keeping the entire resort spotless. Food was delicious as well. We enjoyed our room in one of the privileged suites and the beds were very comfortable. The resort is quiet day and night with activities ending at 10 pm. We also took advantage of being able to dine two nights at the family friendly resort next door. This was my second time staying here and would recommend Catalonia Royal Bavaro to anyone!

Rooms and grounds are nice. Beach is not great. Not the blue waters we expected. Staff at pool bar is excellent. (Leo and Ashly).
Food is acceptable. Steakhouse meals were always cold. Thalassa restaurant is great.
Air conditioning did not work properly. Never below 24°. Nice lobby and piano bar.
Definitely good value for what we paid.

My wife and I went for an My wife and I went for a quick weekend getaway to celebrate her birthday.
Our stay had several issues that made it disappointing. Room service never arrived on our first night, and our door wristband rarely worked on the first try. There was a loud leak inside the wall we could hear from the bathroom, and construction outside our balcony made it hard to relax.

We were pressured into a 90-minute travel package/timeshare presentation. We walked out after saying we weren’t interested, and although they had promised a free spa package, they refused to give it to us because we didn’t stay for the full presentation.

Both my wife and I became extremely sick after eating the same meal and had to spend an entire day in our room. The toilet only flushed once every few hours, and even though we requested maintenance, no one came. The beach was also covered in seaweed during our stay, which I completely understand is out of their control.

On a positive note, the staff was very nice and polite. Gladys, one of the bartenders, was absolutely amazing and truly made our vacation feel special. We also had a great snorkeling trip with Tony and his crew from the glass-bottom boats—they were fantastic and the highlight of our trip.

Good hotel. Bartenders at pool (Carlos and Ashly) excellent. Daniel at the piano bar is the best, also Gladys at the Siwichi is great.
Beach bar awful, worst bartenders of the hotel in that area.
Thalassa food is good, but we recommend to walk to the Catalonia Bavaro and visit Ayami restaurant, amazing.
