Beach was great. Lounging chairs easily available. Good variety of food. Pleasant staff.
But staff not responsive to complaints such as phone not working, fan not working, broken lock on balcony door etc.
And there were some cockroaches in one of the rooms.

Catalonia Bavaro has become our new annual vacation resort. While we preferred the adults only (Royal Bavaro) resort, the overall vibe of being surrounded by the beautiful Dominican nature, friendly staff and increadibly tasty cuisine they have to offer; truly made our stay unforgettable! Great value and the property is well maintained. Absolutely had a great time at Catalonia resorts.

This was the craziest place I have ever stayed in 42 years of life.

When we checked in, we had no blankets, no hair dryer, no face towels - which would have been totally fine but the phone didn’t work so we couldn’t call the front desk to request any of these items.

The next day I asked a staff member, he wrote my requests down but nothing happened. We drank the two bottles of water they provided (tap was undrinkable). The ceiling leaked in the bathroom onto my husband’s toiletries.

The following day I asked for more water and again for the phone to be fixed, to no avail. I wound up dumping soda from the fridge (there was plenty of that) to be able to bring back water from the bar.

They finally gave me a hair dryer, but the ceiling leaked on it again. My choices were go to dinner with wet hair again or be electrocuted.

The following day was my husband’s birthday. They didn’t bring us water, but they gifted us a bottle of rum.

My sister tried to fill up her water at the front desk welcome station and was scolded. We’re denied entry to dinner for 5 minutes because the restaurant staff member spelled our last name wrong.

At dinner, the high chairs are all taken; my mother in law has to go find one at another restaurant bc the staff won’t take initiative.

When we got back to the room, there was a blaring dance party that made it impossible to sleep.

Last day: we get four bottle of water, a fixed phone blankets, pillows brought to our room, just in time to fly home.

The hotel, staff, beach, location, and room were amazing. However, I had trouble getting a hair dryer. I made three requests at the front desk but had no success. It’s unfortunate not to have access to a hair dryer, as it’s a must—especially for women.

The cleanliness of the room and our housekeeper Angela was amazing, there were a few issues to be fixed such as the tv losing signal, the ventilation needed to be cleaned but resolved within 2 hours same day. I had a great time on the offered excursions!! Very family friendly and you HAVE to get to meals early and the only thing that could improve is the room service is TRASH, only 3 choices and half the time it never showed up.

I’m honestly shocked this resort has so many good reviews, because our experience was not good. We arrived on my boyfriend’s birthday and the birthday package I ordered—banner, cake, champagne—wasn’t done at all.

The room had a loose floor tile, the shower ran out of hot water, and the towels left white lint everywhere. The toilet stopped flushing (they did fix it), the remote didn’t work until replaced, and the patio door had no outside handle, making it almost impossible to open. There was no room service for our building, which was never mentioned when booking. Even the blow dryer didn’t work, and it took nearly an hour to get a new one before dinner.

Food service was disappointing. I saw a cook leave the bathroom without washing her hands. At the buffet, drinks took forever and we were often ignored. One night we didn’t get our wine until after we finished eating. The Spanish and Asian restaurants were fully booked for the entire week when we arrived, so we had buffet the first two nights. The Italian restaurant messed up our orders the times we were able to get it. Only the steakhouse and bartenders had good service.

There was no nightclub as advertised—just an underwhelming sports bar. Sunscreen at the pharmacy was $44, so bring your own.

They did set up a birthday surprise for me on our last day, which was nice, but it didn’t make up for the issues or the failed surprise for my boyfriend. I wouldn’t stay here again.

Check-in was worst in my life, we was there at 10AM, they said that we have to wait to 12 and then we get room. At 12 we go to reception and our friends got room and our they said will be ready at 3PM. we go back there at 3.20PM and its take us 2 hours to get room!!! We was inside of our poor room at 5.45PM. Fridge at mini bar doesn't work, they replaced on third day. Half of lights doesn't work, we have leak from ceiling in bathroom, no make sesne to buy privilege....

The pool tables and games must be free.
Servers in the resort are not in the right numbers, some are not friendly or willing to serve you. You have to wait and call someone after 15 to 25 mins to get the stuff you wanted.

The room was is vey poor condition. There was mold on the back of the wood bathroom door. Shower had caulk everywhere. only 2 plugs in the room. Furnishings were of poor quality. Mattress was very firm. I booked a room with 2 double beds and got a king room.

There was mold in the bathroom. The vent fan did not work. The AC unit wasn’t working properly. The refrigerator wasn’t getting cold. The rooms aren’t cleaned properly. The food was very limited. No microwaves in the rooms. The screws for the lock on the balcony door were out of the socket.

We had a few issues with the room. The front door latch was hanging and missing a screw. The showers had drain covers off to the side and one of the shower knobs fell off. The TV has splotchy internet and several channels would not come through. There was no handle on the balcony door, making it difficult to get back inside. We contacted maintenance and they repaired the latch and shower knob. We found a few roaches in the room. The staff was friendly, but many did not speak or understand English. We used Google Translate to communicate. It would be nice to have more than one brand of beer (Presidente) available. Surprising that Absolut was only available to Exclusive guests. On most days, towels were on many chairs yet the guests often did not come to use the chairs until many hours later. We had to leave a day earlier than planned, as a winter storm was approaching in the US and we could have been stranded. We notified the Checkout employee two days prior to the early departure and he could have cared less. Our housekeeper was excellent and very pleasant.

On the first night at the game center playing 8-ball pool, we asked a staff member for assistance when a ball got stuck. When she arrived, she said, “oh, two monkeys,” referring to my friend and I, the only dark-skinned people in our group of 5. We immediately told her that comment is unacceptable. She proceeded to justify it saying it was due to the color of our skin. We continued to tell her that’s racist and she shouldn’t be referring to people like that unprovoked. I took a photo of her in order to report the incident to customer service. They informed us that this same worker has received multiple similar racist complaints in the past but refused to provide her name when asked. They also said nothing could be done because she works for an “external” company. Even though this situation clearly occurred on the resort’s property, they did not want to take any accountability. The staff was very nonchalant about the ordeal and seemed as though they just didn’t care. I was extremely uncomfortable even walking around the property for the rest of the vacation and left our vacation with a sour taste.

While we acknowledge that the restaurants, food quality, and activities were very good, the condition and cleanliness of our room were unacceptable and fell well below the standards expected from a hotel of this category. From the first day of our arrival, we noticed several gecko droppings on the floor. Surprisingly, even after nearly 20 days, these were never removed. This clearly indicates that the room was not properly cleaned during our stay, with no adequate sweeping or mopping performed. The bathroom was consistently in poor condition.The toilet was not properly cleaned and became highly unhygienic by the end of our stay. The bathtub was so dirty that it was impossible to use it. These conditions are particularly concerning as we were traveling with young children and expected appropriate hygiene standards.Despite generally liking the hotel, this experience was deeply disappointing and has significantly affected our overall impression of the stay

The ceiling outside our bathroom leaked, I reported it, we kept slipping on the water, we had to leave a towel and the bathroom bin to catch the water
There was a rubber band. On the floor in front of the wardrobe, and was still there when we left 20 days later. There was food crumbs under the seat cushions on both couches.
The staff were delightful, the DR animation team were so happy and friendly ; one French animation guy was lovely, the French animation girls were extremely rude and aloof…

Do not stay here. I received a spa treatment that caused visible damage and irritation to my face, which later spread from my nose to my cheeks. Nearly two weeks have passed since I reached out for assistance, and there has been no resolution or accountability.

The resort does not allow ride-share vehicles onto the property, requiring guests to walk to the gate. Several bellmen refused to assist and were dismissive. While a few staff members: Victor, Oscar, and Luis, were professional and kind, the overall experience was poorly managed and unacceptable.

I will not stay here again unless the resort takes responsibility for the harm caused by its services.

The manager of this resort should be ashamed of how it is run. Phones in room did not work so you had no way to contact maintenance, housekeeping, front desk, etc except for using the Whatsapp to send a message that nobody answered. Ordered room service for the kids and it never showed up. The day we checked in for 7 day stay, all of the restaurants said no availability. New Years eve special dinner was a disaster because waiter got the orders wrong and nobody checked on us after we ordered. We had no hot water in our room for 5 days. 80% of the games in the arcade and billiards room were broken leaving nothing to do at night. Beach was disgusting with kelp on shore and never cleaned. I would never stay at the Catalonia Punta Cana again.

TV in room didn’t work half of the channels were pixelated. Phone in room didn’t work. A/c in room didn’t work. No one came to get us water for buffet, walk to get water and guy cleared our table. Hear everything outside your room, including into neighboring rooms. Heard planes flying overhead all night long, on top of doors and conversations of other guests in there own room. Bathroom smelled like sewage, poor plumbing. We couldn’t reserve a taxi because our phone didn’t work so used the company on their website and when the morning came they told me they can’t pick us up and we have to walk all the way to the gate. Terrible customer service. Terrible room accommodation. Also we only had access to 2 out of the 5 restaurants there. I would not recommend anyone to ever stay here, which is sad because the Catalonia hotel in santo domino was so nice. Very bad impression for the brand.

Very disappointing, the staff are rude, seems like they don’t want to be there, not seen anybody smile for 7 days that I have been there. The room was in the first floor, and it seems like the septic backs up because the room smells. Not one restaurant was available for the entire stay, were forced to eat at the buffet, which was horrible with the exception of Christmas eve. Paid for the privilege suites, but no changes from the regular rooms, also none of the benefits really apply, room service will not pick up the phone, in the rare occasions they do, you will be waiting for hours and 9/10 times nobody shows, we asked for late check out, they told me no because there is a person who has asked for the room I was in specifically lol. To make matters worse one of the days a manager of the hotel asked us to go to the “EXCLUSIVE” side and he will handle the issues, they started selling a product that I was confused what was it, in the end after 4 hours of wasting our vacation time, they wanted to sell us a membership to a travel agency for only 30,000$ lol. None of the arcades for the kids are included, but even after having to pay for them they do not work. The kids pool was very small, with one little slide. My kid got really sick after the first day in that pool, so we decided to stay only at the beach. Stay away.

I’m always grateful for the hardworking employees of the resorts. The entertainment team were the only group of workers that made our experience enjoyable. With that said, this resort was subpar than other all inclusive resort I have had the opportunity to stay at. Time share information needs to be disclosed. Made a bad impression to start.
While dining, the patrons are unable to access water on their own. 90% of our dining experiences water and refills were asked for and more often than not requests ignored. Chaotic seat placement in buffet. Staff pointed to where parties were to sit. There are often 10 possible tables in that area pointing is unhelpful. Tables were not turned over prior to seating. People are patient allow staff to provide excellent service and allowing them to clean between groups. Food in buffet was lukewarm at best. I understand food is being prepared in mass quantities, however, there is a great potential for food borne illness with the way some food is left out. Patrons are eating off their plates, with their hands while waiting and serving them selves. This has a huge potential for Norovirus. Staff should be firm on this should they observe this.
I recognize most of the resort is outside. There is signage stating no smoking. This needs to be enforced. There needs to be smoking areas designated throughout the resort. Poolside, bar side, theater area. This is unacceptable. I would not reserve rooms at this resort again.

Room was overall clean. However, there were 2 mornings during my stay when I was woken up around 8 am by someone in the resort trying to sell me something. This was annoying. I hadbto disable the phone in the room to avoid that from happening again.

The bed sheets and pilow cases had stains.
Some days, we had to call the reception to provide towels / or change towels.
The bathroom (shower) drain is not flowing well. So after shower, there is always a pool of soap water left.
Yes this was mentioned to the cleaner, she checked it out bur didnt fix it.

Buffet: I would prefer to have a simply process put in place to indicate when you are done eating before the waiters clean the table. On multiple times, i go get some food, my table has been cleared even though I was not done.

Food: There are many dishes with Port. There was less of Beef.
Also noticed the most are generally salty.

Cleaning staff visited each day but fail to change soiled sheet. They just remade the bed. On day 3 tv stopped working, I noticed staff they assured me it will be fixed. It wasn’t. Along with the TV not working WiFi in the room also cut out I informed staff as well. No change. The Balcony was like any other. The Food was sometimes cold from the buffet with the same food in rotation. Fruits were fresh.

The room was great! The cleaning staff kept everything spotless and helped us every day we stayed, Martha was the best with us! I’d say that at times, some of the servers at the buffet lacked a bit of attentiveness. It seemed like they didn’t really want to serve, and we felt the same with a few of the security staff. If you didn’t figure things out on your own, they didn’t seem willing to provide answers. However, the hotel itself is very nice!

The majority of the staff is rude and appear to be bothered by any of your requests. They have an annoyed or apathetic look the majority of the time.

The second most annoying thing about this place is the ability to get pool/beach towels. You need to get up early and get them or else they’re gone. This was everyday of the five days we were there.

The buffet food is average, but restaurant food is great.

The rooms are not cleaned to the standard of a Marriott but better than a motel 6. Again, the towels for bedrooms are also hard to get.

The lines to get drinks are average to long. Crepes are amazing but can be long waits. Pizza and sandwich stations are above average in taste and not as long of a wait.

The entertainment they put on for the kids and adults is really good. They really put in effort towards that.

The property hast 4 specialty restaurants but they limit the amount of reservations you can make based on the number of nights you are staying. We upgraded our room, which was nice, however, there were not enough towels nor showering gel upon arrival. One of the double sinks was leaking so we decided not to use it. Top this up with a “commercial presentation” that you are not informed about it being a commercial presentation until you are already there. They schedule you for a “special breakfast” to talk to you about the benefits you get with the upgraded room, once we were dropped off at the location is when the guy indicated it was a commercial presentation (we already knew based on how much they were pushing it). The hotel is very pretty but I doubt we would return.

⭐ 1 Star — If I could give zero, I would.
This resort is absolutely unacceptable. It is not suitable for pets, yet there were dogs and cats roaming freely across the property — including cats inside the dining areas. Completely unsanitary.

From the moment we checked in, the experience was terrible. Our first room was filthy — dirty sheets, an unclean floor, and a toilet so stained it looked like it had never been sanitized. When we called the front desk, we were given the runaround and refused a room change. We had to drag all our luggage to the lobby and demand a supervisor just to be moved.

The second room wasn’t much better. There were hairs on the bed, forcing us to disinfect the room ourselves with Lysol. The room had only two washcloths for four guests, and despite calling the front desk, we didn’t receive more until the next day. The housekeeper who came had a terrible attitude.

On top of everything, I got food poisoning from the buffet and experienced vomiting and diarrhea. When I called for help, the front desk acted annoyed and offered no support whatsoever. Days later, I am still sick.

To make matters even worse, there was no running water on the property — no way to shower, brush our teeth, or flush the toilets. Every time we reported issues, we were dismissed.

This has been the worst hotel experience I have ever had. I will never return and I do not recommend this property to anyone. Save your money and go somewhere that values cleanliness, safety, and custo

Room annually sprayed for bugs, we had roaches in ours. Maybe one vendor day in the lobby/lunch buffet area, we were dreading going past after the first experience. Consistent room service, some days we got a complete set of things to refresh what we used and others not so much. If it was because of no daily tip where we come from you tip the house maid at the end of the week not every day.

Catalonia Punta Cana was the perfect location for our family holiday. There was plenty to do for all of us and the food was amazing! We got an experience of Caribbean culture and absolutely loved the shows. Our youngest enjoyed the mini club and never wanted to leave! Staff are amazing, hardworking and happy. We will be back!!!

We have a pleasent stay, but when compare my visit from 2 years ago, many things had change, such as staff (not motivated and feel the pressure), property water area (front) were not as excellent.
Dominican show was excelent and good country representation.

This resort is quite budget-friendly and has a more intimate size. It’s very clean, and some staff members are friendly—especially Victor, who helped transport our luggage to our rooms. However, the resort has limited food options, and we found the Italian restaurant disappointing. Additionally, the staff selling timeshares can be quite aggressive and do not always follow through on their promises. That said, if you can overlook a few minor issues, I would say it’s a great value for the price!

Slow service but when you do receive it, it’s great. the staff make a great experience just need to be present more often. check in takes a while because of lack of staff and laziness. Beautiful property. at the beach you have to cross through seaweed and over the seaweed catcher in order to go to the crystal clear water. buffet changes its meals daily and a TON of variety as in almost hundreds of options. some food is meh while others are delicious you just have to try each a little to find out what’s good. showers probably need to be scrubbed more there is fungus growing but besides that rooms are up to date. they restock the mini-fridge everyday. room service website is a little broken i think or it must be the staff’s slow service but regardless, needs more options and takes a while. Would return again if the service speed improved, but regardless had an unforgettable experience.
