Beautiful building at great location. My single room had a very decent sized twin bed. Although the hotel is next to the train station, I heard no noise at any moment of my stay. The gym room is basic, but it offers alternatives for a total body workout.

Hotel Essener Hof is very close to the Essen rail station. It has historic charm, with some drawbacks. Many rooms have no air conditioning - you must make a special request for an air-conditioned room, after booking on a third party site. Many rooms are on hallways that have steps to climb from the lift. Staff are friendly and helpful. The bar and restaurant are closed; breakfast is a buffet with many traditional German food choices.

Neat and clean

Check in was terrible. I wandered around in the rain for a while before finding the reception area. Our key was there with a note, but because the note was in German I didn't use Google translate on it till we found our room. Turns out the note could have saved us from wandering through different buildings looking for our room.

Now that we're settled, the room is adequate. It is clean and well maintained. We'll be here for 4 nights. Too bad we didn't get a hotel with a kettle so I could make coffee and with a little more space.

Nice hotel with a couple of problems

A nice hotel in a quiet corner of central Essen, very handy for the train station and central shopping areas. The room was large and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. There was a problem with a leaking extractor fan in the bathroom and no way to fix it over the weekend but they did provide a bucket when I asked as the floor was very wet. The high tech shower completely defeated me. They had left the full maintenance manual in the hotel room for guests to peruse (and who doesn’t love a maintenance manual when on holiday) but I still overlooked the essential switch on the sink that was needed to activate the shower (silly of me not to guess but there was no obvious sign). A pity also that nobody pointed out that only one of the two lifts gets to the fifth floor. Overall: a nice and clean hotel that just needs to up its game a little.

This is a wonderful hotel. Check in was quick, smooth and professional with a polite and friendly member of staff who showed us to our room personally. We stayed in one of the apartments which the hotel offers which was modern and spacious with a very luxurious feel about it. The beds were extremely comfy and the whole apartment was very well equipped. The hotel is extremely well positioned as it is conveniently close to the main train station and also very close to the central shopping area too. We really wish we could’ve stayed longer as this was the best hotel we stayed in during our Germany tour.

Excellent choice for staying in Essen

This hotel is very close to the main train station of Essen, just across the main entrance. The hotel is fully renovated, very nice standards and features with full service restaurant on site and sale of snacks and beverages at the reception for late arrivals. Very clean premises, friendly you staff, no smoke-filled corners.
Yes parking available around the hotel , public spaces, however fee-based at certain times of the day, free at night until 8am. Staff is international, good English speakers seem to be always on the premise, too.
Huge internet driven flat TV in the rooms, very calm, well lit floors, with room key secures elevator. Conference & meeting rooms avaible as I noticed. The surrounding area is part of the main shopping area with plenty of great offerings and opportunities to get stuff. At night the entrance is well lit, just beware, German train station areas do attack pan handlers, too. Security is not bad, but as in every major city around the world, better watch out. Overall I really enjoyed my stay at this very homey place, as every function I needed (internet, calmness, clean spaces, hot water etc) was top notch as promised.

I stayed 3 nights on business. Location is very convenient if you need to stay in Essen. I found the room was spacious and confortable. Staff was good, check in and check out fast. I didn't try the breakfast because buffet was the only option and was too pricey compared to nearby alternatives. I would probably stay there again.

Comfortable, Convenient, Just a Little Loud

This is a conveniently located, very clean, very nice hotel. The only downside is that the area must be close to some bar as there was racket both nights I stayed at around 3 in the morning. Just take some ear plugs, and you'll have a great experience!

The hotel is ideally located for business travelers and tourists. It's opposite the main railway station. You can avoid crossing the wide street there by exiting at the City side of the station and going down an escalator marked Willy Brandt Platz. Bear right toward the end of the tunnel and you will be in front of the hotel. The receptionist was exceptionally courteous and helpful with directions about opening hours of major sights, tram and bus and train lines to reach the sites, and other useful information. The hotel dining room is attractive and, like the rest of the hotel, sparkling clean. The room was of adequate size for two people, the beds were comfortable, there was desk space and free Wi-Fi, a shower with a glass enclosure and good water pressure. In short, it was an excellent place to stay. We didn't take the hotel's breakfast, as it seemed rather expensive for people who eat just juice, toast, and coffee, but it's probably a good buffet if its standard matches everything else. We found what we needed for breakfast at the railway station via that handy tunnel. We would certainly use this hotel again on a later trip.

The hotel is well situated very close to the main station and transport hub and at the end of the main shopping street. Plenty of places to eat and drink close by. Free wifi in the room, safe in the room and spotlessly clean. The hotel is however a bit dull with no atmosphere when I stayed. Rooms are a little austere, in keeping with many German hotels, however you have everything you need and staff are friendly. Decent buffet breakfast too.

Das Zimmer war zu kalt und trotz Bemühungen des Hotelpersonals konnte nicht ausreichend geheizt werden. Im Februar und bei eisigen Temperaturen draußen leider ein NoGo!

古いホテルだけど内装はリノベされてるし、ちゃんとメンテナンスが行き届いたお部屋でした。暖房はセントラルコントロールなので、フロントにお願いしないと温度調整出来ません。朝ごはんも美味しかったです。

We booked a last minute room to attend Spiel Messe. We came with our small child. I called and requested a crib in the room. We arrived early on the day of check in. We planned to leave our luggage, but they room was ready! We got in and the crib was already there. And the room was big. Perfect for our small family. The breakfast was excellent. They provided a high chair for my our child. Lots of variety and it tasted fresh. The warm food, was warm! Will definitely recommend to friends for next time.

Oh and super easy to access from the main train station.

Es war eines der schlechteren Hotels in den ich übernachtet habe. Von außen macht es einen guten Eindruck, die Enttäuschung kam dann als wir unser Zimmer aufgeschlossen haben. Der Weg dahin war schon nicht vertrauenserweckend . Wir mussten in die erste Etage hoch dann durch den Notausgang raus in ein Treppenhaus der wohl ursprünglich nicht für Gäste gedacht war. Im Zimmer dann war die Laune endgültig getrübt. Gebucht hatte ich ein Apartment für 2 Erwachsene und 2 Kinder. Mit Wohn und Schlafzimmer, und einem Sofa in Queensize Größe als Schlafplatz für die Kinder.
Als wir nun in unser Zimmer rein kamen stand sofort an der Tür ein Klappbett und am Fußende dessen ein zweites, quasi als L. Und zwischen den Betten war eine lücke von ca 20 cm zum durchgehen in unser Schlafzimmer. Mein Mann ist gehbehindert, daher war es nicht einfach. Dazu war eins der Klappbetten nicht mehr in Ordnung so das das Fußende bei Belastung abstürze und am Boden lag.
Das habe ich noch in keinem anderen Hotel erlebt.
Das Zimmer war aber sehr sauber.
Und das Frühstück gut und reichhaltig.
Es ging bis 10.30 und es wurde auch bis zum Schluss nachgefüllt. Personal war sehr hilfsbereit

Perfect stay for a couple of nights. Room was clean and bed was comfortable. A bar, also serving meals, was nice. Breakfast was to my liking. Best of all was the location, just a few minutes walk from the trainstation and U-bahn.
