No where to sit and relax in reception area. We stayed in a compact double area. Plaster peeling off in the corner of the room and in the shower room. A few cracks in the tiles in the shower cubicle. Shower room far too small. You can hardly move in there

We had stayed at the same hotel approximately 6 months ago. There were issues then which were conveyed to the management. The horrible noise that follows a toilet flush is still there.Most importantly the windows would not shut as the handle was broken and we had to put up with traffic noise no sleep. We were promised 50% credit on the room price which still has not been delivered. Furthermore, the heat in the room was not working and the taps were not rigidly fixed. We were moved to another room the second night which was reasonably better

The three person room was awful. It smelt damp and musty. Not pleasant at all. The curtains were shredded. The windows don’t have all handles on, so don’t close properly - awful as there’s a lot of traffic outside and busy flight paths overhead from 5am, so not good if you enjoy a lie in. Then there are the small touches. The toilet seat is cracked (no pun intended), the lamp shades are detached from the lamps. It was just grubby and lacks any care. The staff were very good and helped me move to another room, sadly away from my children as they didn’t have any other three person rooms. Not good for a family break. The pluses were the staff and the parking is free - but be wary of being blocked in. Overall a really poor experience and not recommended in the slightest.

Was allocated their cheapest room but booked their most expensive. Fully booked so had no choice to stay in tiny room. Bed was tiny for two and ridiculously hard. Bathroom was very unclean and showed a distinct lack of care.
Requested compensation but only received difference in price between room types.

Dreadful run down and dirty everything broken or torn. The worst place I have ever stayed.
Curtains ripped, shower not working. Toilet broke. No handles on windows so open all night. Paint n plaster falling off. Smell of garbage and this was in a room I paid £40 to upgrade to because the first was worse.

On arrival to Shandon House it was a house.
The name on Hotels.com is misleading as this is not a hotel it is an old house that is being promoted as a hotel - this is not a hotel (this is misleading). On arrival I checked in at the desk (?) and was asked for my ID this was photocopied and I was asked for a payment card also - the accommodation was already fullly paid prior to arrival. The room location was a puzzle as the stairs beside the desk was split level and directions were unclear. The smell of damp was too much to ignore. On entering the room the damp smell heightened. The room had two windows which could not be closed without possibly causing damage so sleep was not completely possible. The curtains were barely attached to the rails. The curtain backing was shreddded (torn in a few places). The carpets badly stained. Although somebody had tried to clean it. The bathroom - shower tiles were badly broken and cracked; the shower shield leaked to the floor - down the side of the painted bath and through the expired shower shield which was badly sealed with silicone peeling from the edges - water seeped through the edges to create the terrible damp smells. The beds had clean sheets at least however, the base of the beds that were visible were disturbingly dirty, worn and old. I would not rate or recommend the experience to any one. I would not recommend a stay here. The picture illustrated was not the experience of my visit. hotels.com should visit this site!!

The room was sold and advertised as a double room with a double bed, yet it was a 3/4 bed at the most. The room was set up for a single person. The bathroom could only just fit 1 person in it at a time. There was only 1 cup and 1 glass. This was the smallest room possible and I was charged twice as much as I could have booked it for the day before.

Helpful friendly staff (schlepped our suitcases to the room). Parking on site, but tiny and with three cars in the lot, it took some precision maneuvering to get out. The room was clean and comfortable, but the en suite bathroom could use a bit of remodeling (gaps around the tub and water stains running down the wall... prob change out the mildew-stained shower curtain too). The train station is a 5-minute walk, Richmond Green is a bit further but convenient with pubs and shops, and just a bit further the Thames and a pleasant promenade.

Clean fresh rooms though the common areas were a bit tired. Clasps on all windows broken so could only close some windows, which wasn't a problem in the current weather. Two receptionists, one polite & helpful, the other not. Good value for the area.

I would strongly advise against staying here.

During my stay at this establishment, I encountered several concerning issues. The accommodations exhibited significant cleanliness problems, including the presence of insects in the bathroom.
Additionally, the property presents a serious safety risk. The windows on the top floor lacked proper hinges, which is a major concern. Due to these dangerous and uninhabitable conditions, I would strongly advise against staying here.

We had one night at this Hotel.
The photos make the room look much better than they really are. We were staying on the third or fourth floor - no assistance with getting our cases up the stairs.
Bed was on an angle, so I spent the night clinging to the middle, hoping that I wouldn't fall out of bed and break an arm!
Car was parked in the car-park. Someone had scratched our car, the gentleman on Reception could not have been less helpful in searching security footage if he tried.

Would not really recommend, and would definitely not stay here again

The hotel certainly doesn't deserve some of the negative reviews seen recently. It's simply a no-frills hotel and serves its purpose as a place to stay for the night. No security issues. The windows do shut properly - one just needs a minimum amount of intelligence to work out how. The carpets are clean as is the bathroom. Quite a good shower and comfortable toilet although a tiny basin. Useful car park behind the hotel. Reception staff were friendly. The only real issue that we had was that we wanted an early check-in (only 1 hour earlier) and the receptionist offered it for £10 extra which we found unaccomodating and slightly exploitative. Obviously they can't do this for everyone but a kind favour for some paying guests wouldnt go amiss.

Terrible Hotel

The hotel experience was so terrible that we couldnt stay there one night. The room was not in the condition that was advertised, and the room was dirty. The toilet wouldn't flush, and the bathroom door couldn't close at all. We are trying to get our money back via hotels.com but the owner refuses to answer. They don't want to give us back a refund it seems

So i have given everything on this hotel and my stay in this place 5 stars all around. Tge reason for this is because for Value for money considering its London its really good especially with parking slots and the train station just down the road like a 3 minute walk. The staff were really good and helpful i didnt feel i needed anything more for the amount this cost me. Thank you to the gentleman who were at reception and were a friendly bunch. My son enjoyed his first visit to London and although we have stayed at significantly better establishments he said that we will need to come back here again the next time.

the price I paid the room was reasonable, needed a couple of lights changed and a good dust behind the tv and fan in the room. The main criticism was the mattress…it was awful, for the price I don’t expect to sleep on a cloud but it at-least needs a mattress topper to stop the springs sticking into you all night. You get what you pay for

This is a tough property to judge, because as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. The location is great and close to the train station and Richmond city, in general. That was a positive. The hotel is certainly not \"3-star\" as they claim. If it were in the USA, it would maybe at most get 1-1.5 stars maximum. Its similar to one of the roadside motels you have on a highway, and for Euro standards it is equivalent to a mediocre hostel. Rooms were teeny tiny and very hot. Fan was tiny and room was sweltering in summer. The carpet was absolutely filthy and bathroom not much better. The room is seriously dated and really needs a complete gutting and remodel. Pay a little more and stay in a more modern place is my advice. The pictures were absolutely untrue and not a reflection of the state of this property. It really needs upgrading desperately. In saying all the above, if you are on a really tight budget and just want a simple bed to lie on and have little expectations, then this is the right place for you.

My night in a hell hole.

The room is filthy, the shower is mouldy with broken tiles. The shower head is filthy and mouldy so couldn’t even shower. it’s unsafe I’m a single female on the ground floor and the locks are broken on the windows. There’s a massive crack in the glass of the window. The bed is like a slab of concrete. It’s boiling hot but can’t open a window there’s a very cheap very noisy fan. Only 1 member of staff who was unhelpful. By far the worse hotel experience I’ve ever had in my life. Feel dirty, feel exhausted, can’t wait to get out of here. Spoke to the 1 staff member about the problems he said he knows how bad it is so that is reflected in the price. £135 for 1 night in a literal hell hole is not reflected in the price.

We stayed here end of June for 2 nights.
There is parking for free if you can get in as the parking lot is tiny and fits maybe 5 mini cars. We got in the first night but had to park in the local NCP lot by the station at £22 for 24hrs (we were in London in all day). The staff were very helpful though and did message me that spaces weren’t available.
The room was pretty tired and worn. The curtains were in tatters and had a plaster hanging off one of them which was gross. The window latches were broken and dangerous. It was so hot that the portable fan did nothing.
The beds were comfy and clean.
The bathroom was very old and the shower was awful. Toilet seat was broken. The radiator was stuck on and the bathroom was hot which made the room hot. I was sweating while brushing my teeth as I had the door shut to stop the bedroom becoming over heated.
The kettle worked and the free tea was good.
The staff were helpful.
I had prepaid on Expedia and on arrival I thought they took a security deposit but they took full payment again. On check out there was a lot of hassle to show I had been wrongly charged. Eventually later that day I did get my money refunded.
I don’t feel that the quality of the room justifies the price. I was told it’s new management so I hope they can take this feedback and clean up the rooms.

Cheap and shabby but staff lovely!

You get what you pay for with this property, This is a very budget hotel. The place is a little dilapidated and shoddy looking, there was small splashes in the bathroom up the wall where it hadnt been cleaned very well near the toilet, (looked like blood or something) also there was a tag from clothing just on the floor near the table which made me think the room hadnt been cleaned thoroughly. The bedding was clean and the room was tidy but just a little shoddy with peeling paintwork.
The staff member who checked us in was really lovely and they kindly stored pur luggage for us which was a huge help! They were very friendly and obviously wanted us to have a good stay. This hotel just needs renovating really, I personally would pay an extra £20 or so and stay somewhere else until alot of it has been taken care of.

I Just remember, it's the location!

The location of this hotel was the best thing about it. It was relatively clean, but it was VERY outdated. The tub was so high, I almost needed help getting in and out to shower. There were two shower nozzles. One was stuck close to the hot (and I mean HOT), and it was impossible to shower using it. The other one was connected to the spigot, and while it was easier to control, it was off center, so I was falling around the tub while showering.

The room had a bed and a desk. But the desk was so close to the bed, that it made it all but unusable. The bed was comfortable enough, but if you want a top sheet, you better bring your own. The room was downstairs, but it was always warm in there, despite the 45-55 degree temps of the nights. We had a desk fan for \"comfort\". The WIFI was iffy, and even when it worked, it was very slow. They claimed there was a problem on the carrier's end.

The hotels is very close to downtown Richmond, AND it's also close to the trains. That is very important to my wife, which is why we booked it.

The staff was friendly, and they did their best to help the situations.

I get the impression that they are new at the hotel business. They were in the middle of what looked like a renovation next door to us. They always had bags of (I would believe) soiled linens. If they could do a major overhaul, I think they would more than make up the expenditure.

The only slight downsides were a bit of flight path and traffic noise, and occasional creaky floorboards above. It was a comfortable, spacious room, and although the supplies of tea/coffee/etc. and toiletries were simple, we certainly had everything we needed for our stay. The staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful. The location is excellent: a short walk from Richmond station in one direction and from Richmond centre in the other, offering a huge choice of restaurants and pubs, plus bakeries, shops and a supermarket. We travelled by train/tube but the hotel also has a car park.

In terms of the property, this hotel is older and well used, however we found it clean and great location for exploring Richmond. An easy short walk to the under & overground & bus stop. An easy walk to cafes, shops.

This place is a jem because of the staff. The staff we encountered (Ian & Sarah) were very helpful, kind, friendly and accommodating. They both had great recommendation for places to eat and see around Richmond.
Sarah was sweet to connect with us after our day out, to see what we had been up to in the city and if we liked the pubs, shops and sights.

I can not believe Expedia would even list this property as a place to stay! Had it not been too late for me to leave, I would have run so fast. Please do not consider this a safe place to stay. The room was out of a horror movie and dirty. Tattered and torn curtains from curtain rod down, they smelled of a 100 years dust. The carpet was no better and the beds were boxes with the worst old pillows I have seen. I slept on my on my sweatshirt and laying towels on the carpet to the bathroom so I wouldn't catch something. Luckily no bed bugs!
The bathroom equally dirty with a pubic hair on the top of the toilet seat. A piece of dried gum was also on the headboard. the worst place I've stayed in 40 years. The guy behind the counter unapologetic, rolled his eyes at me. I left the next morning without a shower to find another place to stay. I hope I have saved someones trip to this \"Hotel\" what a joke, Shandon, shame on you.

Friendly welcome however my room could have done with a thorough clean. Ine of the curtains was ripped and tatty on one side and the bathroom needed a proper deep clean and descaling of the shower head. Hairs and bottle marks at the back of the bath. Toilet seat either needed bleaching or replacing as very yellow around the rim and underneath. Coffee stains on one of the lamps. Did speak to manager who said he would speak to housekeeping but won't be staying again. Disappointed

This property was adequate. It does not have an elevator or air conditioning. The room was clean, though very used and worn. The size of the sink was comically small. We were there on a hot summer evening and left the windows open and the traffic was loud. The staff did help me find parking and were kind when I was having difficulty with my phone. It's nothing fancy, but it did the job. Great location!

Honestly, the staff (whilst pleasant) or owners, must be providing false positive reviews, because this hotel is far off base from a 7. Whoever is leaving 10/10 reviews is being deliberately misleading.

Cracked shower tiles, leaking sink, leaking shower, shower door that doesn’t close, pot lights falling from the ceiling, caulking with mould and falling out, bathroom door handle DUCT TAPED on…

There are far, far better hotels that aren’t basic, dirty, damaged, and dated.
