All was very good until the morning. My husband took his shower first, but the drain was clogged. The bathroom flooded with about two inches of water, and the water continues to leak out of the bathroom. I told the front desk immediately. They said they would send someone right up so we went to breakfast. We returned to our room and no one had been there. We packed up and I could not enter the bathroom at all. As we were leaving, two people showed up to take care of the bathroom. I went to the front desk and explained that I will be complaining and requesting a refund. He then offered me another room, but we were leaving and it was almost check out time.

There should be a note on the hotel stating that parking is “ very limited”. When we asked where we could park if not at the hotel we basically got a response “not sure” super helpful. Our room smelled like rotting garbage. So much so, I went looking for a missed bag. Nope, just smelly. similarly, in the hallways. We got hit with a 190€ additional bill for breakfast, admittedly, this site did say surcharge for breakfast. However, not once did the restaurant greeter say anything about this charge. Only on the last day did the very rude greeter say there was a charge. We said ok and had breakfast somewhere else. Ultimately, It was a negative experience in a hotel I was looking forward to staying in. Our German is not perfect but definitely well enough to ensure there was no language barrier.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in room 406. Very quiet. Great view of the cathedral. Close to the subway, supermarket, and an easy 20 minute walk to Konigsallee for fancy people watching. The room was generous, well maintained and had a lovely modern aesthetic. It was very clean. The small kitchenette would be perfect if you had a week of work and wanted to eat in. But the breakfast is so generous that I would always add that to my stay. The breakfast was a pleasure every morning to enjoy fresh delicious food, good coffee and pleasant ambience. And also the beer and bottled water in the mini fridge each day put a smile on your face. We will definitely return on our next trip to Dusseldorf.

Stayed in better and stayed in far worse - very middle of the road hotel. Cheap and clean, good location. Quite expensive parking and breakfast (which we didn’t have) and a suggestion to get more / better reception staff. Spent an age waiting to both check in and check out!

I have two red flags:

I was visiting Dusseldorf for a trade fair. It seems that this hotel's rates were vastly elevated vs their normal rates - 6 times more expensive vs the same days this week, for example, and I booked well in advance. I had made my peace that prices might be higher in general, but this seems like pretty blatant profiteering.

I forgot my adapter so, very helpfully, was able to borrow a phone charger from the front desk. However at 10.20pm on my second night I was called by the front desk and asked to return the charger immediately. Probably a first in all my travelling.

The first thing to point out was the hotel security was very poor. We arranged to leave our bags in a 'secure' room at the hotel only to find out upon return to collect the bags one had been stolen, passport computer included. Another guest also had their bag stolen. Basically the secure room was not locked .police involved and a very strong letter heading off to the Hotel management.

The first night was a nightmare, the shower was clogged, the restroom got flooded, the shower door would not close so there was water all over. They barely give you shampoo and soap to shower, the iron was also broken with a whole on top, so there was once again water spilled all over. Their response is pretty much deal with Expedia, they do not take ownership of the lack of care and maintenance of the property.

We had an enjoyable stay in Dusseldorf. The Hotel was very pleasant however, the downside we had was the noise levels, our room was situated by the main road and we didn’t get a reasonable night sleep during our 5 night stay. The room was also pretty cold, we tried to turn the thermostat up but it didnt seem to work. The room itself was very nice, clean and very comfy beds. We’d have preferred a bath as we walked over 60 miles during our visit but the shower was hot and powerful.

I booked this hotel at the last minute not knowing much about the city. The location was perfect, with easy access to the subway. Walking to Altstadt was only 20 minutes away so it’s a very accessible hotel. The free items in the mini-bar was a nice gesture as well a the free drink at the bar in exchange for not needing room service. I wish more hotels would offer an incentive to minimize waste or unnecessary change of sheets/towels. Breakfast was great. I would stay here again.

Great location , underground close by, three stops nd your right in the centre of the German Market. Facilities in room were fantastic. Small room but enough space for two to live comfortably for a few days . I would definitely return. Hotel staff were very friendly too. A true hidden gem .

Centrally located, the hotel was close to tram/bus terminus (3 stops to Altstadt) and shopping centre. There were several restaurants very close by. The Greek El Greco, is 25 mtrs from the had a fantastic reasonably priced menu of traditional German, Italian and Greek dishes. The hotel room was very comfortable with complimentary beer and water in the fridge, The breakfast buffet was outstanding with hot and cold options. Very friendly service. There is limited free parking outside the hotel at weekends, but, the Hotel has underground garage cost €15 per night.which is a bit tight to access. Generally we would use this hotel again.

For me the best hotel in Düsseldorf so far

Stayed in the Living Hotel in Düsseldorf for one night on a business trip. Had tried the Centro Esplanade and the Novum Maxim before and both of those were more expensive and bad in comparison. The Living seems to be newly built (in comparison to the others that were \"stuck in the 80s\" with only minor touchups) That made a huge difference in quality of bed, furniture, bathroom, carpet, even smell and lighting in room and corridors, keycard for entrance, large windows etc. The whole experience was completely different. The living also has a breakfast that includes scrambled egg and bacon, large selection of cold cuts, fresh cake, very nice tea. They even include two drinks (beer or water) in your room mini bar for free. Compared to the others it felt like luxury, and all that for a lower price. Only drawback: avoid room 28 on the 4th floor (and probably all others in same location than this on the other floors) It is right next to the elevator, so you get a distinct humming noise in the room each time the elevator is used, which is all the time. I think this is a room that should not be rented out at all. My mind was on work so I wasn't so sensitive to the noise but I know that If this had been a holiday trip I would have asked for a different room. Strange how a hotel can do everything right, then ignore something like this. Apart from that I would highly recommend this hotel.

This was our second visit to this hotel, Told we had to upgrade to a superior room to have a smoking room at an extra 20 Euros per night. Informed by reception it was a superior room, with courtyard view, turned it was a smaller than a standard room which looked out onto a turfed flat roof bounded by a wall. This roof was lit 24×7 from inside through skylights and this made the room bright even with the blackout blinds were closed. The room was very hot and no way to control the heating. We informed reception of this and they sent out the handyman who just tapped the thermostat and said it was kaput. Although it was a very nice hotel, we shall be looking elsewhere next time and wish the hotel much success with the business.

Stayed here whilst on a cycling trip with friends. The Hotel itself is in excellent condition and probably the best value for money in the area. The price of the drinks in the hotel bar is also quite a bargain. The location is excellent with plenty of places to eat or drink right outside.

Nothing was too much trouble. Mainly excellent condition except my shower was missing the sliding door. The kafe sahne had gone off but the replacement the next day was fine. Location is good for public transport but it’s a bit of a way into the Altstadt if you have trouble walking. Overall a wonderful stay. This is the second time we’ve stayed here and we will definitely be staying again.

Unbelievable!!! I’m traveling a lot for business and normally check out is at noon. In this hotel it’s 11 am, though. I asked the lady at the front desk (one of a million faces! There’s never the same person!) if it would be possible to check out at 1.00 pm instead of noon and she told me about their 11.00 am policy plus that she couldn’t decide if even noon was possible and that I should check in once more in the morning with the manager on duty. In the morning I had an important Skype call and completely forgot about checking in with that person and when I checked out at noon (an hour earlier than I wanted because I had a spontaneous appointment with a friend) the manager on duty said that I didn’t talk to him about a ‘late’check our and that he’ll charge me 10% of the price. People would always check out late without asking and he needed to ‘teach’ them! Um...aha...well,it never ever happened to me in a four star hotel that I was going to be ‘taught’ by anyone in anything by charging me an extra 10% as a penalty because I simply forgot about a strange rule in the rush of things. I told him that if so many guests were so naughty to check out at the usual time of noon the hotel should start behaving according to its guest wishes instead the other way around but he didn’t agree. Paid and won’t come back. Screw you guys!

Good central position.

The Derag Living is in a great position. You can walk to the Altstadt in 20 mins or take a U Bahn 3 stops from the Kirch Platz Station 3 mins walk away. The staff are great, they speak English and are very helpful, ordering taxis for us and providing directions and info.Our stay was over Karneval and the big parade passed very close by. Only down side was that this type of hotel is between a hotel and apartment. I wasn’t aware there were cooking facilities in the rooms, a washing up sink, crockery and kitchenware. It attracts a lot of people on business trips or actually working in the city who cater for themselves in their rooms so there can be interesting cooking smells about! Also the restaurant next door was closed and finding an evening meal did require a walk or train journey. Apart from that the rooms were comfortable and clean and the position was great. We enjoyed our stay! The free beer and water in the fridge were much appreciated.Useful for visitors to note that shops and attractions are closed on Sundays unlike the UK.

This is a very clean and tidy hotel. My room was immaculate and well appointed, if a little on the small side. Not worth paying extra for a 'courtyard view' as the courtyard looks like a ghetto. I pre-booked and paid for two nights in advance to attend the Boat Show. Internet access is vital for me so I can keep in touch with my business and this was a major factor when deciding on this hotel. However, wi-fi access was not available in my room and they could not move me to another room as the hotel was busy. To be fair, they tried to fix the problem by getting their IT support people on the phone and I spent over an hour carrying out their instructions, but that failed also. I therefore felt I had to checkout of the hotel half way through my visit so ended up staying only one night. No refund was offered. They did suggest I could use the dining area for wi-fi but that afforded no privacy.
Overall, fine for a business trip or a short stay as the area it's located in I found frankly depressing, but as I say, no problem for a couple of nights.
Breakfast was typically 'european' and that's fair enough, it is Germany. But no english breakfast tea available was for me, not a good start to the day. A high proportion of their guests were british and this caused some consternation at breakfast.
