When we arrived it was found out that our booking never transferred onto their system. The receptionist worked hard trying to find us a room at either this hotel or their sister hotel. They managed and we got checked in. Room was nice and spacious. Comfy chair. Bed not so much and no fan in the bathroom so it quickly became a sauna in there, especially after a shower. The hotel had a heating issue and the room was stuck at 28 degrees.
Overall pleasant stay.
Plus- excellent bakery across the road 🙂

Staff was very kind and location is good. Curtains don't block out all the light so it is hard to sleep in. Hallways got noisy in the mornings with other guests and housekeeping staff. Decent value for the money.

The staffs are very nice. The hotel is clean and quiet. The only complaint is the comfort is too thick for summer. We had to keep the air conditioner running low in the night. Other wise it’s too hot to sleep with the thick comfort.

I had a few issues with the services and the room during my 5 days stay at NEWBERLIN hotel.

What was great is the location, kitchen and the personnel running it as they were very friendly and helpful serving lovely breakfast and dishes.

However, the reception desk team need some training in customer care and communication skills to listen to complaints and respond accordingly.

Thank God, the management of the hotel was very responsive and took action to resolve the issue.

Hope this was a one time off incident not to be repeated again.

Thanks to all the staff for their hard work.

Sewage smells. Poor infrastructure.

On the surface, this hotel looks fine… clean dining area, friendly staff… However, the infrastructure was horrible. The AC did not work for the first 2 days. The temperature in my room was 26 degrees Celsius (about 78 degrees Fahrenheit). The safe never worked. It was broken the entire time. I was personally trapped in the elevator two times and had to ring an emergency bell and wait for a group of people to pull the elevator doors open with their fingers. But the worse part of my stay, by far, was the constant stench of sewage in my room. Yes. Sewage! There was an open drain on the floor of my bathroom that didn’t seem to empty itself. I notified the reception and they didn’t seem surprised, but also didn’t fix it. I put towels on top of the drain and tried to keep the bathroom door closed so that I could breathe when I was in the room, but the stench was overpowering and I began to have headaches. My toiletries, toothbrush and other items smelled of sewage even after I had left the hotel and I am still surprised that there was no attempt on the part of a manager to apologize for this terrible inconvenience.

Fine hotel - smokey room - nice food.

This was my first stay in the NEWBERLIN. It is close to the Landsberger Allee train (one stop on the M). The hotel is classy with a fine restaurant and the rooms are spacious. The street outside is noisy, but the double-windows handle that well.

My only issue was that the room smelled heavily of smoke, even for Germany (though I booked non-smoking on Hotels.com) and the property was fully booked, so no other room was available. I ended up sleeping with all of the windows open and ear-plugs (not pleasant).

On the upside, the rooftop spa (with Sauna) was amazing as was the restaurant and staff.

A cosy place to stay

Superb place to stay! A cosy & small hotel with a friendly staff. Excellent & delicious breakfast. You can use sauna freely.( Only minus was that in the sauna there wasn’t a water bucket for throwing water over the hot stones. It’s important in the Finnish sauna. )The location is excellent, if you want to be near all good techno clubs. Very good public transportation connections. Nice restaurants, where to eat, are very near. It’s also located in a quiet place, so you can sleep your nights peacefully. There was also a balcony included in the room. All amenities were good. I would like to stay here again, when I come to Berlin next time.

30th anniversary trip

The staff in the hotel were excellent, very pleasant and helpful. We were staying as part of our 30th wedding anniversary, and the hotel allowed us to have our sons and their partners over for breakfast, on the day we left, and had beautiful flowers on the table.
We felt the rooms quite warm, and due to the busy road the hotel is on, couldn't really open the windows, but I think most hotels in Berlin would be like this. I would definitely stay again, it's a lovely, small hotel with very friendly staff and great service.

Interesting place, felt very old but rennovated in the 90’s or something - the bathroom was nice, and the room had a balcony but nothing on it. There was a new looking old school shaggy rug in the room that felt like I was in some dudes bachelor pad who landed a successful job right out of college. The upsides: staff was kind, breakfast was good, and the sauna and sauna lounge area was great. I would go back for those things, but everything else felt strange. It was expensive for what it was but I did book the day of.

The Hotel was lovely and a nice space away from the buzz of Alexanderplazt. Initially when we went to the room it smelt of drains and smelt very stale so I was very dissapointed. Once we opened the windows the smell went quickly which was a relief. If it hadn't I would have asked for a new room. The staff were very friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent. Overall I enjoyed the Hotel but thought the rooms were a bit 'tired' and could do with an upgrade. I would stay again.

Lovely Boutique Hotel Option

Great breakfast, fast check in, wonderful and friendly staff, great neighborhood, stylish room, lovely marble in the bathroom, excellent soundproofing, wonderful toiletries, clean linen and towels, excellent housekeeping, decent wifi signal, nice balcony, mini bar offerings, good lighting in the room, lovely decor. Hotel has excellent transportation connections with trams 10, 5, and 6 a short distance away. Good selection of restaurants in the area. Hotel has a sauna on 6th floor and a small spa that offers services. I booked a back and neck massage and it was ok--nothing special but it was relaxing and at a decent price. I didn't like the fact that the room has a shag type carpet and pets are allowed to stay at the hotel. The wifi signal was a bit weak in some locations of the property. Also, the mattress was too soft for my preferences. But it was a wonderful stay and I would return again.

Berlin weekend taking in 2 concerts at the Mercedes Arena, 25 min walk/7 min team. Cool trendy area of Berlin, lots of bars and restaurants within a short walk. But the Boston Grill at the Hotel does a mean steak and the staff there are nice and relaxed. Highly recommended Hotel. Will use again if need to be in the area

Amazing hotel with great price

This was an amazing hotel. The room was modern, UpToDate, and felt very elegant. Modern amenities in bathroom as well. The breakfast was simply amazing. A lot of different choices daily, and the service was great as well. Close walk of 4-5 minutes to two different tram stations, which will take you into center of Berlin. i really enjoyed my stay here and would comeback to this hotel!

Walking into the room you could see that it had been carefully designed, it looked good, but .......

Nowhere just to sit and be, even the bed had a wrought iron bed head that was impossible to lean against.
Very little storage space.
Drinks fridge but no tea/coffee making facilities
Trendy TV with cable, but only programs in German. Only English language program on the menu was BBC News, at that didn’t work!
Boring Breakfast, choices were identical every morning.
Restaurant was expensive

First off the staff was very friendly, I have nothing negative to say in that department. We checked in with no problems and we headed up to our room. When we walked in the room, we were overwhelmed by the smell of cigarette smoke. I am not such a sensitive person with scents and so on, but the smell was so bad that we couldn’t stay in the room. We went downstairs and asked for another room. The second room smelled like something rotten. We didn’t want to be “those people” that keep complaining. So we toughed it out for the night. However, with four stars we should have received a clean comfortable room.

Great staff. Very good breakfast - would recommend anyone to include this when booking. Nice, good-sized, comfortable room. Good location for my meeting; NewBerlin is convenient to other touristy parts of Berlin using public transit. Be sure to get a multi-day tourist transit pass that gives you access to all of the public transport. I'd definitely stay again at the NewBerlin.

Decent hotel but needs new front desk staff

Positives: Comfortable room and the included breakfast was a plus. Location was not entirely central but not difficult to access public transport.

Negatives: WiFi was slow and limited to browsing simple webpages. The hotel also sorely needs new front desk staff. When asking for simple instructions, such as information on postage and transport, I was met with a disinterested and dismissive attitude. This was frustrating as there were no other guests waiting to be served and the lady was not busy at all. Disappointing and unwelcoming.

Loved staying here. The rooms are amazingly quiet for such a vibrant area. The best part was the BREAKFAST! Delicious pastries and even complimentary prosecco on Sunday with brunch. I stayed in the \"classic\" building and loved the tall ceilings and long windows. The bathrooms are immaculately remodeled. My only slight complaint is that the beds could be more comfortable. But on the whole this place was amazing.

Fabulous Hotel with sauna in good location

I was so glad to discover Hotel New Berlin. A really nice, neatly renovated hotel with great access to public transportation. Alexanderplatz is only ten minutes away via tram. The hotel staff was very friendly and even offered early check in. I requested a quiet room and got it with room 308. The hotel even has a sauna albeit a very small one. But it is open till 11 pm. The buffett breakfast was fabulous and included in the room price. There is also a small restaurant next to the lobby with excellent food.
I decided to extend my stay for one more night. The nightlife in Friedrichshain is also decent, the waitress at the hotel restaurant recommend a small club named \"Zimt and Zucker\", only a short walk away.

Pretty good hotel. I had a corner room on a busy street so I could no have the windows open to the balconies while working. There was a smell in the bathroom that required the window to be open. Had this been in the winter it would either have been very cold or smelly.

The wi-fi was not good. Slow speed and many disconnects. Ok at times though, but inadequate for work.

The staff were nice and helpful.

Spacious room, cute decor- modern but comfortable. Most of the front desk staff were nice, though there was one who rolled her eyes or made a sarcastic comment every time we asked a question. The room was clean and updated but the glass door to the shower faced the front door so if anyone enters they get a full view. 10 min walk to the subway, 12 min to the restaurant/bar scene. Would stay there again!

Lovely hotel

The welcome by the ladies on reception was warm and welcoming, and continued to be so during the four days I stayed at the hotel. Especially (and apologies I have forgot names) - the lady recently arrived from NL and her colleague, who I encountered most of my stay. Very knowledgeable and greatly assisted with my need for \"tourist\" information.

I stayed in the \"mediterranean\" block across the courtyard from the main hotel building - lovely and peaceful - even with residential blocks close by.
The room was big enough and comfortable, furnished nicely, clean and well decorated - including the bathroom. Nothing more to add as all was good.

Breakfast was served in a separate room to the main restaurant - nicely decorated - service good and the choice and selection for breakfast of meats / fruits / cheese / etc all hit the mark.
I did not eat in the hotel restaurant due to prior plans but have heard good things about it and it certainly looked inviting.

All in all a very pleasant stay, in a pleasant hotel, with pleasant staff, I would have no issues with returning here on another visit.

Staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is good. Ask for wifi on arrival - they will print you out a unique access code to use. Seems to be one code per room, not per device (so access to one device at a time only or check this with the hotel first). Hotel seems to primarily attract Germans visiting Berlin, so a good choice if you want something a little less overseas-tourist-oriented. Staff do speak English. Hotel is split into an older building and renovated building. Bathrooms in the older section are odd. Shower floods the floor and takes a while to drain, door from the bedroom to the bathroom (looking in on the toilet and shower and opposite the bed) is see through. TV was difficult to work from the bed (needed to be next to the tv to switch channels). Good amount of space in the room. My room and floor of the old building smelt weirdly like waffles. No tea or coffee facilities in room. 2 x free bottled water per room/stay.

Nice hotel on the outskirts of Freidrichshain. Much bigger than it looks from the outside. Our room was huge. Very friendly helpful staff willing to go the extra mile. On our departure day (a couple of weeks before Christmas) we awoke to find a couple of chocolate Santa's left outside our door.

The receptionists and bar staff were exceptionally good and helpful. The breakfast was brilliant. My only issues were the lack of air conditioning in the room and as a solo traveller why was I given a single duvet rather than a double duvet for a double bed, to me that sounds a message of mistrust from the newberlin in the honesty and integrity of their customers, which is far from hospitable. My room did not match any of the above photos it was much older looking which was disappointing.

Boutique hotel, with a feel of being family owned

I stayed for 5 nights at the New Berlin Hotel. After a small issue with one of my rooms in the older block, I was very kindly transferrred to a room in the modern building. This room was fantastic. Great facilities, modern appointments. The staff were consistently helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. I feel the staff really contributed to the overall positive experience I had. The breakfast buffet was fantastic, great choices, helpful staff, a real treat.

A weekend to remember

A very pleasant surprise, we were not expecting this hotel to be as good as it was. Our intention had been to stay for 2 nights in Charlottenberg but because of the German cup final could only stay one night there. Thus we decided to stay here - what a gem! The hotel has a refurbished block in a court yard behind the main hotel and the rooms were exquisite and beautifully furnished. We ate in the restaurant (Grill Bar!) and the meal was exceptional value for money, our stay included breakfast which was very good. All-in-all it was our good luck to stay here.....we will be back.

Overall a very nice experience. the restaurant menu was rather limited, so we ate a few blocks away. Two different families were given the same mis-information about continental breakfast. We asked at checkin - were told it started at 0640 on weekends. Got over to the space in the adjacent building and it didn't start until 0700. But it was a nice breakfast with tons of options..very traditional German.

I was born in India and live in America, so I want to acknowledge that I will have biases, just like anyone else. I was returning from a trip from India back to the states and I thought that it would be fun to see Berlin. Hotel New Berlin is pretty good. The breakfast is really good and free. The Bar is ok, a little pricey by my standards, but cheap for Europe and on par for Berlin. I just wish the people were just slightly more friendly. The day staff was excellent, but the night staff didn't want to be bothered at all.

Great hotel for a weekend stay!

Surprised upon arrival to discover that the Mediterranean rooms of the hotel are located in a separate building across a courtyard/carpark. The separate building is however, the location of the breakfast room so this was very convenient in the morning.
The receptionist was welcoming and helpful upon arrival, however whilst deciding upon a drink at the bar on the last night she was confrontational as a friend perused the spirits on offer (almost accusatory that he was about to help himself). This was far from the case!!
The breakfast on offer is excellent and the staff were very efficient and helpful with provision of fresh coffee and replacing any items/crockery that had run out. The continental breakfast was fresh and appetising including cold meats, cheese, smoked salmon, yoghurts, cereals, pastries, bread and fruit juice.
The room was clean and spacious, although the room we were allocated (Room 203) was at the far side of the building and was narrow in width compared to our friends whose room felt more spacious being more square in shape. The only criticism (which we did not complain about) was that there was some candle wax on one of the duvet covers. The rooms were very well cleaned each day by the cleaning staff.
We did not have any experience of eating at the hotel's restaurant during out long weekend stay so are not able to provide a review of their food.
The hotel is conveniently located and easily accessed by public transport (Tram and train nearby).

Trendy Boutique Hotel

NEWBERLIN is a cute hotel with a super friendly staff. I only would complain about location. It's difficult as a tourist to pinpoint where to be in Berlin. This hotel was about a 25 minute walk from happening Kruezberg and 25 or 30 minutes the other direction with get you to Mitte. Which is not bad at all once or twice, but it makes going to your room throughout the day to change or whatnot a little tricky.

Staff gave us directions to various places, helped us print our boarding passes, held our bags after checkout (late flight) etc. Free breakfast was much better than most hotels I've been to. Not the fastest WiFi ever, but free so we survived.

Excellent stay!!

From the moment you enter the hotel, you know you are in a quality establishment. The staff are extremely polite, welcoming and helpful. The room I had was one of the Design rooms which is a little piece of luxury for about £70 a night for me. The Design rooms which are the newest come with a very comfortable double bed, flatscreen TV on the wall with Sky, plenty of space to put your belongings, a safe, a well stocked minibar and a modern en-suite. The rooms are to a very high standard indeed. Great to come back to after a long day in the city. The breakfast each morning takes place across a courtyard and is fantastic, setting you up for the day. You probably would not require much more than a snack at lunchtime as there is so much on offer, catering for everyone. There is a bar and a restaurant with good food in the hotel with room service available - to your room in about 20-30 minutes. When my train home was cancelled due to the flooding, having booked a flight home, the receptionist happily printed my boarding pass off for me, rounding off what was an excellent stay. Further out from the centre in the area of Friedrichshain but never far from the great public transport network. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

In Berlin to visit the Velodrome !

Hotel and staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful and the food both in the evening and at breakfast was very good indeed. Particularly at breakfast, there was plently of it which made the need for a mid-day meal almost unnecessary. We went specifically to an event at the Velodrome which is perfect at a 15 minute walk but there is little else nearby in the way of tourist sites. However, the trams into town are reasonably priced, fast and regular so it was no problem to get into the centre of Berlin in less than 20 minutes from the hotel as the tram stop is very close. The hotel is smaller than many which is a good thing as far as we were concerned and the accomodation was spotless and very warm - very welcome as it was well below freezing in January when we visited !

Great hotel for everyone

This hotel was excellent, staff were friendly and helpful, rooms were very clean, spacious and comfortable and breakfast was fantastic!! There are two buildings to the hotel and we stayed in the one away from the main road, this had a quiet and calming atmosphere. The hotel has a couple of places to eat nearby and a few cafe/come pubs however the main place for nightlife is a short tram ride south ( only about 4/5 stops) and then a short walk across the river. The hotel is easy to get to from AlexanderPlatz again only about 4 stops on the Uban and then 2 stops on the tram therefore easy access for transport to tourist attractions. Our main holiday plans were to experience the Berlin Clubs and to see the tourist things but wanted to stay somewhere nice and quiet too. This hotel was ideal!

really good find - very friendly, very comfy, very clean etc etc. Breakfasts were vast so no need for lunch!
Slightly out the way from main areas to visit so important to allow time for the underground and trams to get you into the centre.

Great Hotel

This is a really lovely hotel. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The rooms are clean. The buffet breakfast was excellent. The position of the hotel was perhaps not the best but it was very convenient for the tram and the UBhanis also close by. We would be happy to stay there again.

Good base to travel around Berlin

'Boutique' type hotel, breakfast if you want it, and restaurant if needed, although quite pricey. Facilities clean and relatively new. Well priced stay on an Expedia deal. Location good - 10 min walk to Frankfurter Tor but you can always get a tram from outside. Good choice of cafe's and restaurants around Frankfurter Tor. U5 underground from Frankfurter Tor only 3-4 stops to Alexanderplatz and other good transport links, and of course the rest of Berlin and the more tourist areas.
Taxi from Schoenfeld cost about 30 euros otherwise take the S9 to Franfurter Allee, the U5 to Franfurter Tor and a tram to the hotel.

Excellent hotel in nice neighborhood

This is a wonderful hotel. The room was beautiful and very clean. Room service was excellent. The Italian restaurant in the hotel was very good and not too expensive. The hotel is just down the road from the train station (you can take a tram and be there in just a couple minutes) and the neighborhood is very nice and quiet. A lot of restaurants and shops are within walking distance. The hotel is excellent for the price. I would definitely stay here again. The only complaint I have is there was no A/C and it was about 85-90 degrees F outside the entire time we were there, so it was a little miserable sometimes, but there were a few doors/balconies in our room that we could open.

Lovely boutique hotel

This hotel is really lovely - a boutique hotel with individually designed rooms. The standard is excellent. There is free wifi, a gorgeous sauna/roof terrace that is part of a guest's stay at the hotel. We really loved it.
