Very basic, relatively cheap hotel. Clean but with plumbing problems ... water leak from the sink. In another room the knob that lifts the plug in the sink was missing. Sink was blocked with the plug and the water couldn't drain.

Slightly shabby and blisteringly hot. The room was too hot no matter how the thermostat was adjusted. Corridors and stairwells were hot and reeked of cigarette smoke. Booked online in a B&B hotel only to find on arrival that breakfast was not included and cost an extra EU10.50 per person. Entry off the street was open 24 hours but not monitored.

This hotel is perfectly adequate if you're going to be out most of the day like we were.

The hotel in general is a bit dated but the rooms were practical and clean. The shower was a bit rusty but nothing awful.

The rooms do get incredibly hot even when it is cold outside. It is quite loud to sleep with the window open so you have to choose between being hot or it being loud!

Overall, it is fine. I think it is a bit expensive for what it is but was one of the cheapest options we could find.

Check what you booked.

Originally given a twin room when we booked a double room. The room was basic but clean but overlooked a flat roof that was strewn with vegetation and rubbish. When we complained we were given what we booked, being advised that this was a common problem with the Hotels.com website. The new room was in the attic and the air conditioning did not work, so the room was hot. As such, we had to leave the window open wide all evening.

A friendly hotel to stay at a budget price. As UK visitors our only issue was the lack of a kettle to make hot drinks in your room. Staff friendly and rooms clean. Our room at the back was very quiet.

This was a good hotel for us to stay prior to going to see the sights in Berlin.
The water was great for the shower and there is body was provided.
When we set out the next morning they provided luggage lockers for 1 euro. The euro was returned once the key was returned.
Staff was very friendly.
Only down side to this hotel was the air conditioning did not blòw very hard. Other tha that it was a very good stay and I would recommend to anyone.

Hotel at reasonable cost in heart of the Fredrichshein district of Berlin which is full of ethnic restaurants, treelined streets, interestingly painted buildings, and local bookshops. Directly opposite a U-Bann stop with easy access from their to Alexanderplatz, and the western areas of the city in one direction, and a quick but somewhat complicated transfer to Ostcruz, a train stop to the airport. Really good breakfast included in the price.

We arrived at the Best Western Hotel City Ost only to discover the hotel was closed. Apparently it had been closed for several months. We were NEVER notified, how can this be possible? I am blind and I rely upon Orbitz to provide me with accurate information so I can travel safely. I Eventually I was able to contact another BEst Western and they found a transferred reservation. This should NEVER have happened. Luckily I am an experienced traveler; I am also very resourceful. I can only imagine the panic and anxiety, and trauma such circumstances would provoke in most blind or otherwise handicapped tourists.

In my opinion, this was a failure on the part of Orbitz, someone in your organization should have known the property was closed. I had to track down the reservation, and pay additional transportation costs in order to arrive at the Best Western Hotel in Der Mitte. This is entirely unacceptable; you MUST be more thorough when listing hotels: no one should arrive at a hotel with a confirmed paid reservation only to find the doors shuttered, no staff, and no information.

Good hotel for a long weekend stay. Small rooms but its a city hotel , tea/coffee in our room as well as a fridge. We booked the comfort room, was on the 5th floor at the back would not of liked to be on the front as i think that would of been quite noisy.
Netto very close for essentials close to lots of different restaurants and snack bars.
Staff are very helpful ,all done with a smile.
The only negative is wifi is poor, but that is a small thing.

Clean & Modern in Friedrichshain

The Friedrichshain quarter is alive with young people and this is a good spot for visiting relatives. Lobby is small but rooms are clean and unfussy and a plentiful breakfast buffet can be had for 9 euros per person. Hotel is steps from U-bahn station Samariterstrasse —a short trip from Alexanderplatz. Rooms do get some street noise. Rooms include electric kettles.

Great value modern hotel in Ost Kreuz

Room we had was a little on the small side, but for the money (approx £70/night) this place is excellent! Friendly, helpful staff; clean, well-equipped room and in the perfect location to explore East Berlin by foot or a quick 10 minute U-Bahn from right outside the front door into the city centre. Will definitely use this place again!

Great location right by U Bahn station Samariterstraße 5 stops to Alexanderplatz. Comfortable pillow and beds, great shower.
Only criticism is that the Wi-Fi is absolutely hopeless and I ended up using mobile data for most of my stay.

In general, the hotel was very good with a clean room and comfortable beds and friendly helpful staff. The U-Bahn was right outside the door and it was only 5 stops to Alexanderplatz so idea for getting into the centre.

There were also lockers to leave you bag after checking out.

There were only a couple of downsides. We went in October but it was 22+ degrees so the room was a bit warm and stuffy and the cooling fan was too loud to use overnight. The room was at the back of the hotel, but there were flats close by and with the window open you could hear noise from them.

Hotel is in a great spot for all the bars and restaurants of Friedrichshain plus (literally) right on the U-Bahn. The hotel itself was clean and tidy but a) the room was really hot and the air on didn’t really work abpnd b) we put a do not disturb sign on our door that was removed by the cleaning staff and then cleaned, which was a bit annoying.

Efficient hotel super close to public transit

Nice efficient compact hotel located within steps of public transit, restaurants and shopping. Comfortable beds with central heating and air conditioning. I had read some reviews of the WIFI being spotty in the property, insider tip: if you are having issues with your WIFI you can go to reception and for a refundable €20 deposit they will loan you a WIFI router for your room that will boost your signal. I personally had no trouble. The breakfast is great and you maybe able to get a discount on the breakfast if you prepay for your entire stay. There is also a grocery store just adjacent to the hotel.

Read a lot of bad reviews about hotel wi-fi, never experienced one problem. Only a couple s-bahn stops from where I needed to go, the velodrom, a few u-bahn stops to Alexanderplatz and all the big department stores. I thought the Best Western hotel Berlin city ost was the perfect location for pretty much anywhere in east Berlin. Very clean room and helpful staff.

Excellent location - the underground U5 stop is right outside. The tram S5 stop is up the road. Next to shops and there's a shopping centre not far up the road.

Walked to East Side Gallery in about half an hour.

Walked to Berghain in about 40 minutes.

Great location, right by a U-bahn station (10 mins from Alexanderplatz) and great for exploring the brilliant nightlife in Friedrichshain.
The restaurants nearby are superb and there a hundreds to choose from. New Day Vietnamese & Hangmee are brilliant.
The staff are really friendly & helpful, the rooms are fine, a bit dated but good value. The only complaint I have is the wifi, it's terrible. If you are bringing a laptop pop an ethernet cable in your case and then it's fine.
Overall, great value, great staff & a nice place to stay while exploring the City.

Right outside tube stop so easy travel, pharmacy and small supermarket right next door with news agents across the road. Close restaurants but lack of bars. Also the wifi is terrible it may as well not be there, on 4th floor and had no wifi signal. Overall good location, we had a very pleasent stay despite the negatives

I had an extensive stay which was paid for by my mother.she charged it and when I checked out they would not accept her payment which had already been taken by hotel. Very rude desk staff lady. Went to different hotel for my duration. I went to cancel a room night because I booked a date in error and they would not let me because it was an hour late. I explained I was staying a whole month and would choose another hotel and they did not care. They also spoke English and were irritated when had to. So I left and stayed elsewhere for 30 days. Your loss.

AC broken the whole stay

I spent 4 nights in the hotel and the AC was broken the whole time. Being Summer in Berlin this made for an extremely uncomfortable stay. I could open my window to get fresh air but my room faced a major street which was loud and made sleeping difficult. Im not really a complainer normally but i expect more from a hotel i payed that much money for.

Very convenient hotel located in the eastern part of Berlin near Alexanderplatz. I choosed it because it was cheaper than the hôtels downtown. But it is very handy because a subway station is at the doorstep (samaritanstrasse). It takes a few minutes to get anywhere in Berlin.

The room is way too small for 2 people for a 2 week stay. Beds are smaller than twin size. Not enough closet space and no drawer space. Housekeeping did not understand to clean cups and glasses in room or replace them. Breakfast would cost extra. Bathroom is small but I expected that.

Nice Hotel with access to middle Berlin

The hotel is very clean and the staff is friendly and speaks good English. We walked and rode bikes into Alexander Platz, both are easy even if you are not that active (level flat ground everywhere).

We usually do our own tours and research to save time and money. We were to knock out all of our sites in one day walking with a short train ride back at the end of the day. Rent the bikes from the hotel if you have no cell service, they're the same ones ou see around the city.

I have now stayed here four times and it is my first choice for a Berlin hotel. The staff are very helpful and friendly; the room was good ( although on Frankfurter Allee, which makes it a bit noisy with an open window!) and the breakfast was excellent quality for 10 Euros. It is very conveniently located next to Samariterstrasse U-Bahn with good service to Alexanderplatz every few minutes - a 12 minute journey. The hotel is very good value and meets my needs precisely. Visitors to Berlin tend to gravitate towards Mitte for hotels but Friedrichshain is better value and, although more challenging, is a lively and diverse area!

Even though I've given it two for room comfort and cleanliness we still stay here around five times per year ( only one member of the staff the guy on nights gives us a regular customer welcome ) the air con wasn't working in room 516 although we didn't bother reporting it. In the same week we stayed in room 603 and both rooms were in dyer need of a like of paint. Positive points are they now have tea/coffee facilities in each room and cleanliness of room is superb.

You get what you pay for!!!

The hotel is in a great location, right outside is the subway which takes you to the hub of the action in minutes. Plus there is loads of places to eat and metal bars nearby. Staff where fine. The room it's self was clean and tidy but...but...the so called double bed was awful. It's single beds pushed together I did not enjoy this. Maybe I should have done more research before going with it. As my title suggests you get what you pay for abd it was cheap. Would I stay again sure but it would need to be for a few nights as opposed to the week I had.

This was a great hotel for our trip to Berlin, right next to a metro station, close to area we were in, walking distance to restaurants, and best of all two doors down from a grocery store chain so very cheap eating. Excellent value for our stay, great air conditioning too which was needed during a heat wave this summer in Berlin. Only downside was WIFI didnt work most of our stay.

Good location next to station. Relatively small rooms but clean and tidy. Unfortunately we lost electricity in our room on two occasions. Patrick on the night shift was very helpful and fixed the problem as soon a he could. On the second occasion however we had to change in another room as they couldn't fix the problem until the morning.

A great place to stay in Berlin.right next to the U Bahn to Alexanderplatz and in the edgy old East section of Berlin.
Wander a few streets in any direction to find a very different Berlin.
We stayed an extra three nights and will return if we visit Berlin again.

Nice hotel our second stay here

This hotel is great location, subway directly outside or 35-40 minute walk into Alexanderplatz. We stayed here in November and had no complaints so stayed again 4-8 May. Only trouble was the air conditioning! 25degree heats and no air con! Spoke to reception about this and was advised that comes on over 15 degrees but if that was the case the heating should have came on so I think they just had it switched off! As a result we had to leave window open and despite being on 6th floor the main road outside seems to be used for motorcycle racing throughout the night meaning very disturbed sleep! Obviously wasn't an issue in winter. It's a shame because couldn't fault the hotel but noise awful, hopefully will rectify itself by time air con kicks in.

I am very familiar with Berlin, so knew about the location on a busy street in Friedrichshain. The hotel itself is comfortable and quiet, there was little or no noise from the corridor, cleaners etc. A nice addition is the availability of tea and coffee-making facilities in the rooms. Good windows mean the rooms are well soundproofed. We did not have breakfast so I cannot comment on that.

A very pleasant stay

The staff were very helpful and approachable with issues concerning the room but if staying on the sixth floor the Internet may not work. The room was very comfortable and quiet and exceptionally clean. The domestic staff were very friendly and polite. I would definately stay at this hotel again and I will recommend to family and friends. The location was good as the Ubahn was directly outside the hotel .

Good Location

Booked a birthday surprise for my partners 65th birthday. Very welcoming receptionist. Room was presented well and clean.Plenty of restaurants in the area and a bakery next door. With a U-bahn station right outside the hotel it was a very convenient location.

Great location, but no wifi

The location is great, you have a metro station right outside the hotel , and its about 25 min walking from alexanderplatz. the neighbourhood is really nice, lots of bars and restaurants.The room is big enough for a couple, comfortable but doesnt have a small fridge as we would expect...

My biggest problem with the hotel is the lacking of wifi in the rooms, in order to connct we had to sit with our room door open in the coridoor, kinda embarrassing....the connection is good in the lobby.
There were no channals in English on TV exept for CNN.

The staff was nice...

Great Hotel

Great stay. The staff was very very nice. Great breakfast. We parked the car for 12 Euros a day. We used the public transportation which is at the entrance of the hotel. They have coffee in the room, which is great, because you cannot find it in other places in Europe. The room is big, and the location is great.

Clean and Convenient but noisy

The hotel is well situated for amenaties. Shops and restaurants all around. And the Metro is right outside. The room is very basic. We had to collect our own Tea set. The view is terrible all around. But my worst gripe is that the cleaners start at 9am every day. The noise in the hall woke us up every morning. Came back home exhausted. Complained but made little difference.
