The rooms needs better cleaning and maintenance. We stayed in a private family -room in building 2. Walls are thin so you can hear absolutely everything from the neighboring rooms.
Check-in was super strange and a total chaos. My confirmation number from Expedia was not working on their automatic machines so I waited in line to get help from a customer representative at the reception. I wasn't the only customer having issues with the machine, it seemed to be a general issue. The staff insisted I try again with the machine with some \"tips and tricks\" from them which by the end worked out but my question to A&O is: if your machines are not working, isn't the staff there to do things manuals?. I felt I was dealing with a robot instead of a human.
The rooms need to be cleaned more often. I found dirt and mold in the shower!! Definitely not what I had experienced in other A&O locations (Berlin Hbf and München for example). I get this is a hostel but for a family room I expected way more.
Bottom line: cheap- built rooms with poor isolation from the noisy street (it's in Mitte but bordering Kreuzberg). Area around the hostel is not clean but hey! So is Berlin right?

Property was okay but the staff was rude and they didn’t explain to me about the rooms I wanted they booked me for a room with several beds and told me that I couldn’t cancel it after I went to the room and saw it wasn’t what I wanted I didn’t even stay there I had to book a different hotel to stay at….they didn’t explain that it was a dorms they told me after I paid I would never recommend anyone to stay there…the staff wasn’t helpful at all

Location is great - close to Kitkat and Tressor which are popular clubs in Berlin to visit. Room was adequate for October as we had no need for AC or heating. Bathroom is small but pretty clean. Unfortunately the elevator was broken for most of the time we were there so we had to carry our luggage down 6 floors (our room was on level 6) which was terrible, but otherwise good price and clean place

You get what you pay for. We only needed a place to rest our heads and for this it worked well. Location is about 10 minute walk to public transport. We stayed in a private room with ensuite and 2 single beds - it was tiny with no Aircon and poor pillows but otherwise clean and comfortable.

Photos weren’t entirely accurate for the two twin bed room - the bathroom was beyond tiny and there was hardly room for two large suitcases. Would recommend being mindful of this. Also no air conditioning and during hot days, rooms can feel muggy and stale. Also very limited availability for electric/plug-in fans (none come standard in the room)

Our room was much smaller than pictured. They do not clean the room unless requested. On several days this was not done despite being requested. When it was done only our bin was emptied. There is a bar at the hostel for drinks and snacks but a member of staff was very rude to us. I visit Berlin very often but will not be staying here again

Out of the way and quiet neighborhood. A little hard to find because there was no sign on the building. Only 1 of 3 elevators were working. Very noisy during the day as people were running in the halls and shouting but quiet at night. This is a hostel so expect a lot of young people but the staff were very friendly and helpful.

I booked the room for one night with Orbitz in the morning and received an email to confirm that the room was paid. I just need to pay the city tax on site. However, when I arrived around 10:30pm, the woman at the reception charged me the whole price in euro when I intended only to pay the city tax. She was rude and unprofessional, refused to give my money back when I showed her the confirmation email that I already paid through Orbitz. She refused to acknowledge this and claimed that she was asked to charge guests from Orbitz. I had to argue with her. Only because I demanded the money back, she consulted her colleague, then without any explanation she threw the money back on me without even Issuing a receipt for the city tax I paid. Horrible check in experience: the lobby was full of people, very noisy: when I found the room ok, clean, but we were harassed by strange people hammering on the door until midnight. The room was along a very noisy street

There were numerous issues with this location. It was in a terrible part of the city, the check in staff were slow, the room was of a low quality for what was asked to be paid. The bathroom was small,l with limited amenities. Unclean and dirty outside - dead animals outside window. Other occupants were noisy and I felt it was inappropriate to have children staying there!

Overall I had a great experience at A&O hostel. I was not aware this was a hostel until I looked up the address only for my Uber since the post doesn't specify this but it was a very good experience! The facilities were clean and the common area was a great place to be at, with the bar, food, and games. If this was a little closer to the center this would be a very ideal location. There are some clubs that are near it which is nice but it's not walking distance to the center. If you're walking its about 30 minutes away. But overall great place I'd recommend staying here.

Had an ok stay here. It’s very much a case of “You get what you pay for”. There are no frills or luxuries but a comfortable enough stay. The staff were helpful and our room was quiet enough, despite large groups staying at the same time. Would stay here again when visiting Berlin on a budget.

As far as hostels go, this was by far best we stayed in. The stay was over the Christmas and NY period, the prices were very reasonable too. Due to its popularity be prepared to wait for a long period whilst checking in or if you need something from the reception staff.

Location wise it quite close to Alexander Platz we chose to walk on most days (about 25 minutes walk), or you can take the bus from the stop adjacent to the hostel and then the U Bhan.

I enjoyed my first visit in the a+o hostel in Berlin. The building is massive, lots of rooms and lots of space and colour. A massive social room which houses reception, bar, food, tv etc. A breakfast room also massive. My room was more than enough space for me and another person (fantastic when you have it to yourself). The bathroom small, in my room at least( single room) but double bed. Bedding was nice. Duvet good and warm. A TV . A hairdyer in bathroom. Everything you need really. Rooms for everyone. Groups,families, couples and solo travellers. Oh nearly forgot black out curtains too!! They have a noise policy for respect for other guests. Which is good. The only tiny wee bit i was unimpressed with was i didn't enjoy many things from the buffet breakfast, a wee bit sad as food is life to me lol and the other thing, my neighbours on my last night there obviously couldn't read and were SUPER NOISY( so much so I wanted to get up and boot their arses! I hoped there were no families on this floor or above or underneath them as they carried on to nearly midnight. This is a reflection on them not the hostel. Guess its just your luck. I would definitely to everyone to book a room here. Staff were also friendly, polite and helpful. I had no problem being understood. 10/10

I received very bad customer service by young German girls at the reception:
- When checking in, there seemed to be some hassle with rooms. I was explained that I was lucky that I had paid whole stay in advance and therefore I shouldn’t be worried.
- Later, my door card was blocked one evening without giving any notice. I needed to go reception where they accused me not to pay my breakfast. That was false accusation. When, I asked about blocking my card, I received rude comment that it is not their job to explain me and the whole situation was more like my fault.
- The hostel advertises free drinks if you don’t use room cleaning during your stay for environmental reasons. I didn’t use it at all and asked about the advertise. The response was that I should have done it when I checked in. Obviously, I didn’t know that kind of offer when checked in.
- Lastly, I gave my email for the manager comment about blocking my card. I never received any comments and I believe my email wasn’t even delivered further. Instead, more likely I have been put on black list as I never received review email by hotels.com. The email, which you always receive after your trip.

The location of this place little dirty. The hotel is lind of college hostel. No regular hotel stay amenities like phone, microwave or in room coffee. No A/C so hot in the afternoon. Lot of girls and boys with smoke and drink. Good if would like to hang out with them. The breakfast is very good and costs only 7euro for adult and half for kids. Tour bus is accessible but don't buy tickets from the reception.

Decent hostel, good bang for the buck

If you know what you’re getting yourself into them this place is fine. Otherwise you’re in for a few minor / funny surprises: It is more of a hostel than a hotel, which not only means bunk beds (which were actually quite comfy I must positively admit) in small rooms with tiny bathrooms but also extra fees for things like bed linen (3.50 per bed) or towels in the bathroom (1.50 per towel) - none of which was mentioned on hotels.com at the time of booking (but doesn’t really matter, as the charges are negligible compared to the overall cost of a Berlin trip. ;-) There is only one elevator per building, so in case you want to get in or out by a certain time, give yourself some buffer as there will be a wait for the elevator - unless you take the staircase, of course. Also be prepared for lines at check-in since the place is quite big and there can be crowds of people checking in at a time.
All staff, front desk as well as housekeeping, were always friendly and courteous, however I would have appreciated if housekeeping staff hadn’t been yelling all the time in order to converse with each other while cleaning different rooms on the same floor in the AMs - while your room has the ‘quiet / do not disturb’ tag on the door. The overall condition of the property is pretty good (as always in Germany), in the room as well as in the common areas. The place seems professionally operated and well organized. The location is conveniently located to various means of public transportation.

This is a youth hostel, so be prepared for something basic. The bathroom is tiny, you can barely shower or go to the loo with the door shut. I stayed by myself so it was fine, I just kept the door open the whole time. The bed was quite uncomfy with only a small foam mattress, so for the second night I stacked two mattresses on top of each other and that felt a lot better. The room was also quite noisy, so I was glad I took ear plugs.

Staff were hit and miss. Check in was slow with a big queue, but the staff handled it best they could. Management need to pay for more staff at front desk. One morning when I tried to buy a ticket for breakfast, 20 minutes before breakfast finished, the staff person said it was too late. Very odd. I think the staff just need more training.

inconsistance was the major problem. Was put on the 7th floor with a decent view.-Elevator out of order one day,someone threw up in the elevator another day.
Was advertised that certain objects were available if needed eg.Adapter for electrical appliances.When questioned about the need for such a device(my \"northern europe\"device was not the corrrect adapter),the person behind the reception counter just shrugged and said check the vending machine.No such device was avialable although many spots in the machine were empty for several days.When it was filled with an Adapter the vending machine was not working.

I expected a lively group of young travelers as was advertised as a sort of warning ,but the hordes of high school and younger groups that showed up(class trips?) wouldnt have been so bad if only they would have stuck to their curfew for bed.Hallway ruckus,constant banging on doors ,drama etc. untill 3:00a.m. if not later was disturbing to say the least.

I guess I got what I paid for.

Only one person working at the register with a long line of people, and other employees noticing this but not doing anything about it. Otherwise, facilities were nice. It is a hostel, therefor you get what you pay for. The hostel is very big and newly refurbished, the rooms can be very small, especially the toilet/shower. The neighborhood is filled with people yelling and sirens. Luckily I did not have trouble sleeping because I was exhausted by the time I reached this part of my trip! Otherwise, it was clean, efficient, and comfortable. Wifi was decent in the room, but less than satisfying in the laundry room lol

The place was under renovation which would’ve been nice to know prior to booking.

The staff were nice enough but the check-in lines were extremely long. Bar staff was great.

Location is ok. But immediate surroundings were a little intimidating.

Im Großen und Ganzen war unser Aufenthalt in Ordnung, das Zimmer okay und auch das Personal.
Dusche und WC waren jeweils zwei getrennte Räume, was bei einem Vier-Bett-Zimmer auch sinnvoll ist. Allerdings war der Raum mit der Dusche wirklich extrem klein, sodass man zwischen Tür und Duschkabine nahezu keinen Platz hat, um sich ordentlich an- und auszuziehen, was schon störend war.
Das Frühstück empfanden wir für den Preis als etwas dürftig. Die Auswahl war recht begrenzt, gerade vegane Alternativen haben sich sehr auf süßes Essen beschränkt und beim Obst gab es lediglich Äpfel. Aber auch abgesehen von veggie, war die Auswahl nicht sehe berauschend.

Und jetzt zu dem, was uns wirklich extrem gestört hat: Wir waren offenbar in einem Neu-/Umbau, was sich an den Gerüsten an der Außenseiter erkennen ließ und wurden dann morgens um 7:15 von extrem lauten Bohrgeräuschen geweckt, so laut, dass jeder von uns senkrecht im Bett stand und man sein eigenes Wort nicht mehr verstand. Keine Vorwarnung, kein Aushang oder Mitteilung beim Check-In, damit man sich wenigstens darauf hätte einstellen können. Weiterschlafen war dann auch nicht mehr möglich, weil es alle paar Minuten wieder anfing.

Hade privat dubbelrum med egen toalett.
Svartmögel i badrum, ostädad toalettstol med massa brun beläggning i toalettstolen. Vidrigt gemensamt kök med smuts, matrester och smutsiga tallrikar, stekpannor etc överallt.
Iskallt rum trots stängda fönster, fick sova med 3 täcken.

Enda bra var trevliga receptionister

70 USD for two single beds put together, the room's heating was working and the room was not ready and we even had moved to another room! The only thing good is the location close to KitKat club but the value of money is not good!
