Clean. Comfortable. Staff friendly. Only issue was our coffee maker wasn’t working- but the coffee in the lobby was awesome- you can get cappuccinos and lattes. Had extra amenities if you forgot something like a toothbrush. Shower had good water pressure- complimentary soap and conditioner.

The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was clean and spacious for Hong Kong. Having a Nespresso machine, hot water machine and refrigerator was helpful. What was missing from a typical hotel was an onsite restaurant, fitness center and laundry room. However, there are plenty of restaurants, a 7-11, and self-service laundry steps away. Located almost right next to the midlevel escalators/ walkways leading up the hill or down to Central Station and the ferries.

Excellent location close to Central, with lots of restaurants and shops within easy waling distance. Only 10 minute walk from Hong Kong MTR station, and the express link to/from the airport.
The room was clean and comfortable, and a reasonable size for central Hong Kong. Not having a reception at street level was not ideal, but once in reception the service was excellent.
Fridge and safe provided, but drinking water has to be collected in a provided glass jug from a cooler in reception (part of the hotel's eco policy) - in reality this was not much of a problem for us.
The hotel provided a free-of charge pocket 4G device to give you a mobile wi-fi hotspot while you are out and about. Great idea and very useful, but the device battery only gives about 4-5 hours continuous use, so if you are out all day you may need to switch the device on & off selectively or give it a charge boost during the day.

Location Location and Location. Central to every things. Complimentary a la cart coffee machine is great. You can make Cappuccino, espresso etc. If you have 2 specialty coffees a day, That is about $HK 130 free right there. Small but nice and comfortable. What size you expect in HK right?

We stayed at the Butterfly for 3 nights in early November, 2025. Hotel has a great location, as well as a friendly and helpful staff. However, to rate this hotel as 4 star is a significant stretch. Middle 3 stars at best. The rooms are older, small, and poorly lit. They are short on modern conveniences like USB and electrical outlets, and the amenities few (provided in the lobby). Overall this place is sort of OK, nothing great about it except location, but acceptable in a basic kind of way.

Yes the room was spotless. However my short stay was marred by a ‘faused fire alarm” alert sound in the corridor in the evening. I called the receptionist at once and was assured there was no real fire! At least the safety equipment was (malfunctioning) working!
Other than that my stay was fine.

You had no direct coffee or water, reception was 5th floor and room was on 5th.
Had to get water from reception.
It showed pocket 4g wifi given to use.
That was not available or offered as per site.

The best thing about this hotel is absolutely the location. Walking distance to Central and Hong Kong MTR. Sooo many good dining choices right next to the hotel.

Staff were fantastic. I was alone with a very large suitcase and needed to get to the airport express train. The staff member gave me a route option that had the lez3st amount of steps which Google was not able to do.

You can't really complain about the location. It is right in the center of Central in Hong Kong. Very close to the NTR station, and conveniently located near all the bars and restaurants. Everything is within walking distance.

The building is a bit old, but the room is very clean. The washroom is newly renovated.

Staff is super nice. I was originally going to stay for 4 nights but there was a typhoon coming. So I had to change the reservation to only 1 night.
The staff was very accomodating and let me cancel the rest 3 nights for free

Overall, I would stay at this hotel everytime in Hong Kong

It seems that the Butterfly is going backwards. The room was very disappointing. When I've booked a superior room before it's been much more roomy.

The one on this trip was cramped and badly laid out.

Also there is a kettle but no tea or coffee provided. There is not even a teaspoon.

We were also put on the 3rd floor. Previously the rooms have been on a much higher floor and hence more light and airy.

Very disappointing that a previously good hotel offered this experience.

Great comfortable hotel. Located very conveniently by Hong Kong Station at end of MTA from airport. Clean rooms. Coffee available. Located in middle of vibrant area. Good tramsport links. No breakfast but grear bakeries and coffee shops close by. Good value.

Rooms were OK and a decent size, and decor was good - with an old world China feel to it, but room’s window design makes it feel a bit like staying in an office. Bathrooms were OK and it’s nice to have a rainfall shower. Reception area is decent but you enter the property through a tatty ground floor - needs to be upgraded. Most of the reception staff were warm, friendly and helpful.

May be challenging if you have a young child who still requires a stroller and can't/won't walk very far. It is a pretty hilly area with lots of stairs (trade off is that it does put your right in the middle of all the action)

My room had a very firm bed and an excellent shower.
I experienced several problems during my stay, and I had to move to a new room, but the hotel staff were very responsive and the issues were dealt with promptly. The sink plug in the first room got stuck in the closed position on the second day, and the staff were unable to fix it, so I had to move to a new room for the second night. The curtains in both rooms would not close properly - in the first room I managed to adjust them, but in the second room one curtain was not quite wide enough to cover the window and the staff had to pin them shut with several \"butterfly\" clips that they use to decorate the pillows. There is no heating in the hotel - the staff had to supply a portable heater when I moved to the second room, because the aircon had been set at 20 degrees all day long, and there was no way it would get any warmer in the evening without heating. The internet was very slow and glitchy - my laptop could not connect to the WiFi in the first room on the 7th floor - I suspect some fault with part of the mesh on that floor, because it connected with no problem in the second room on the 3rd floor. The safe in the room is only large enough to hold up a 12 inch laptop/tablet. I chose this hotel because it is close to the Hong Kong MTR station, but it is a bit of a hike through the pedestrian walkways and it took me a few attempts to find the correct route even with help from Google Maps.

The property was a 10 to 15-min walk from Hong Kong station where the airport express stops. It's also less than 10min to Central station, one of the major stations.

Lots of food options available around the hotel, but the Central area is a touristy area, so do expect long queues at popular food establishments. The hotel staff were exceptional. They even provided us with the best route (mostly sheltered) to walk to Hong Kong station from the hotel and saved us from dragging our suitcases on the busy streets.

The hotel itself is okay, slightly dated but had everything we needed. However, I wish they had more power outlets in the room.

Butterfly on Wellington has a great location in Central! It's a short walking distance to the numerous public transit options (MTR, ferries, ding-dings), close to many incredible restaurants and historical attractions (check out Tai Kwun!). The rooms are clean and the bed is comfortable. There were a couple stains on the bedsheets but we were able to get new ones so that was no problem.

The regular rooms are small, so the bed is quite close to the bathroom. However, you can upgrade to a superior room with more space. The bathroom clean and modern with a walk-in shower that had great shower pressure. Rooms were quiet and we had no issues with noise. Front-guest staff speaks English and is helpful and accommodating. I would recommend staying here for the great location, good value, and clean, quiet rooms.

A boutique property that is well located to the central MTR and the AirPort Express train station. A little upslope getting from the main road to Wellington. Could be a problem if you are lugging a heavy load but fine for me as I only had a small bag for my three night stay.
Construction going on just next door but it did not bother us as we were out just before the construction noise starts and back just before they end their day. Noise was fairly well insulated with double glazed windows. As for food, street and restaurant were a plenty within 5-8 min walk. Overall a descent property

A lot of attractions and good restaurants in walking distance. Transport is a bit of a walk in rain, but is close if weather is good.

The staff are so friendly and helpful.

The only downside is that the room was looking quite dated. The bathroom is modern enough, but the sink wouldn't drain fast enough, so we always had a full sink of soapy or toothpaste water after use.

Our family of 3 got the room with 3 single beds, and the size is quite tight. Lucky we had a 7 year old and not a teenager or third adult.
But this is middle of Hong Kong so I guess it is a what it is.

Overall I would stay again as everything was good when we got used to the place. But I might find somewhere bigger when my kids are older.

there is perpetual construction going on around butterfly and it's really hard to walk to and from the hotel.
so while it's location is unbeatable, the road to the hotel is just so hard with the construction going on.
but the thing that puts us off the most about the hotel is the strong sewage stench that emits from the toilet. i contemplated getting some air freshener even though my stay was just three nights.
