This place is exceptional. It has a rich history, having been home to one of the first members of The Beatles and a great friend of John Lennon (Stuart Sutcliff). The place has decorations and memorabilia from the band's beginnings, making it a great place. We had a hotel room on the top floor with vaulted ceilings, which made our stay quite cozy. Next door is Sefton Park, a beautiful place to walk. The hotel is also very close to Lark Lane, a street full of very good restaurants and bars, with very decent prices, exceptional food, and a very youthful vibe. In addition to the hotel's location, we had the opportunity early on the second day to walk to Penny Lane, passing through a very beautiful wooded area. The walk is highly recommended. The breakfast is five-star, with a variety of a la carte options. We ordered the full English both days we were there... the treatment of the desk staff and breakfast was excellent with that warmth that the people of Liverpool have... it is definitely a charming place to which we plan to return. Thank you for making our stay warm and pleasant.

We stayed for 2 nights for a family funeral. The staff were very nice and helpful. The atmosphere was very relaxing. The breakfasts were lovely. The only negatives, was they did not offer dinner, so we had to walk to find restaurants and that the room and en suite, needed a bit of TLC.

Lovely staff. Paper-thin walls meant every time another guest went to their rooms at any time of day or night meant we were woken by conversation, doors, televisions or worst of all two mornings in a row by an adjoining guest vomiting in their bathroom at 7am.

Hotel is lovely and beautiful location. However, several people arrived on the same day as me, to find that the hotel was overbooked due to a wedding and an alternative hotel was offered in the city centre (no use to me as I was visiting family locally). So far Expedia is very unhelpful at issuing my refund - I booked and paid 8 months ago!!!

Wonderful Hotel.

Stayed here for only one night due to a family funeral. On arrival we were greeted with a very friendly service at reception and given the key to our room which was spacious and very clean. We loved all the pictures, canvases and memorabilia of the Beatles that adorns the walls throughout the hotel.
Breakfast was wonderful! Although the restaurant was very busy our order was served very quickly by a wonderful lady and everything was cooked to perfection.
All-in-all we had a wonderful stay and I would definitely recommend this lovely hotel.

Weekend trip with girls

Weekend spent in Liverpool with friends. Hotel was lovely,Booked a family room. Plenty of space for all of us and adequate facilities. Room overlooked Sefton park. Breakfast was included in cost of room and was one of the best for price. Staff very friendly and helpful with any queries about area . We used taxi to get into city,Took about 10mins and cost between £8 & £12 .
Would highly recommend to anyone coming to Liverpool and wanting a quiet hotel away from the city.

Amazing Gem!

Just left this amazing gem of a place today. Our trip was 4 girls. Hotel was a pleasant suprise with the interior and the fact it was originally stuart sutcliffes family home! The staff were nothing but amazing especially Annie and there was another lady who worked reception saturday night we didnt get her name she was so friendly ! Drinks reasonably priced at the bar too ideal location with bus stop just around the corner. Beds were super comfy and room was spacious with the ensuite shower being lovely and hot which is not always a given. Only little thing that was a small problem was how thin the windows are which again cant complain much about as it isnt something that can be fixed easily as im assuming theyre the original windows of the house. The windows caused a draft to come into the room and if the heating wasnt on it made the room like a breeze block which only happened on one night luckily the other nights were barable. We would most definately go back if we go to liverpool again have even recommended it to family.

A quiet pleasant stay for a couple of nights

Nice cosy property opposite a beautiful park. A little confusing to get to with google maps but other than that the stay was very pleasant, staff are friendly and also helpful. Would recommend if you want to stay in a quiet part of town that is a stones throw away from the main city. The only thing I would mention that is important, is there is no lift, so if you're on the higher floors, you will need to have the ability to climb up a few flights of stairs, which can be quite difficult for people with mobility issues such as we have in our family but overall a clean and comfortable place to stay, albeit slightly pricey compared to your standard hotels.

Nice, easy location but few little issues

Nice place but the room wasn’t made, drinks stock not replaced and ran out of loo roll. So think I was overlooked. Stayed before and was fine. Staff aren’t overly friendly - not rude or unfriendly. Just functional.

Nice little hotel for a 3 star with parking and close to the city, bus routes and Mersey rail.

Dont expect too much

A quick stay to see family.
Reception was ok but indifferent and did not make it clear that they were not serving food on the day we arrived due to a prior function - and not much information on where there was to eat in the area.
Room ok, but curtains are far too thin, as were the walls were we could clearly hear the couple next door having sex.
Had to leave a credit card deposit on arrival - what hotel does that these days ? - and then had to wait another 5 days for it to be cancelled.

Disappointing visit

We visited the hotel as it was close to a funeral we were attending. Check in staff were very helpful. The floor in the bathroom creaked every time you walked in it. The bed was nice and comfortable. We were hoping to have a little sleep in as we were up at 3am for our flight that morning. Builders started drilling and banging at 8am and did not stop till 10am.1 Toilet roll in the bathroom and that was just about finished. I complained when leaving and was told the manager would contact me or I could send an email. I sent 2 emails and still awaiting a reply. Surely if major work is taking place at a hotel the clients should be informed before arrival. I would not recommend this hotel and will not be booking again at this hotel

The private parking is tight but there is further space nearby.
On the Saturday night/Sunday morning of our stay,(23/24 April), there was a lot of late night(1-2am) noise from downstairs. It sounded like a gathering of about 20-30 people making noise, for which we received no prior warning.

Met by very friendly welcoming staff. Welcomed my dogs and room was comfortable if not basic. Dining wise had to eat elsewhere as a lot of the food was out of stock. Breakfast was very good apart from not having toast due to the toaster being broken! We were happy enough with our facilities

We atayed in a box room in the attic, even tge Christmas decorations were still on the landing! Bad noise from traffic all night, woken up at 6.30 with children next door shouting. Wasn't aware bathroom across the corridor, very very tiny. Went fir breakfast, tables not laid, mop and bucket with dirty water in the middle of floor. Young girl really apologetic and doing her best. Blonde woman with suut on arrived, proceeded to talk to wedding guests from previous night instead of helping, didn't even acknowledge other guests. Young Swedish man on reception and waiting on lafy were tge best points of this hotel.

Liked that dogs are welcome. Helpful staff but WiFi needed password but wasn’t given the password at check in. Very noisy at midnight and 5am, not sure why 24 hr desk staff weren’t aware enough to deal with that. Had to change rooms twice due to mix up with keys that don’t work for one room and then toilet seat not attached and lights not working in the alternative room (glad I didn’t have all my bags to haul around the place for that part!) Lovely building, great location for a weekend morning walk around the park.

Lovely family run hotel.

This is a lovely family run hotel set in an enviable position overlooking parkland. The building was the childhood home of Stuart Sutcliffe the ‘fifth Beatle’ and there’s loads of interesting memorabilia. Our only gripe is that they do not appear to have any rooms with Kingsize beds so our sleep was poor and a little bit cramped. Otherwise highly recommended.

A hotel with parking

This hotel is well located to visit Liverpool. The staff were very helpful, I was able to park my car on site, I informed the hotel my wife is disabled but could manage the eight or so steps up to the front door and given a room on the same level. the hotel was clean, we were only there for one night and had no problems at all.

Staff very friendly but 'restaurant' early closure

Stayed for 2 nights. Good welcome and good bar staff. Solid cooked breakfast. The issues I found however, being that I arrived at 8PM on Saturday to be told the restaurant was closed... I don't recall reading it closed 'early' but assumed that was because a wedding reception was being hosted. Didn't want to drive and didn't see any real choice in restaurants in walking distance. Sunday, restaurant also closed at 7:30. Monday morning, morning chef called in sick (unavoidable) but evident limited number of staff meant no effective alternate. So overall clean, a bit noisy as a main road close by, and restaurant timings to me an issue. But if you want some tranquillity, it's set right by Sefton Park where you can easily stroll.

On arrival there was only 2 on site parking spaces (which were being used) and 6 spaces to the front side of the pavement to the left of the hotel,4 were in use,hotel states free on site parking,friendly on reception just a bit regimented,had to leave a £25 swipe on card which is understandable and normal.

When ordering evening meal and drinks (I had to nip round and ask to be served after 10 minutes of waiting 2 staff were on),receptionist demanded that i pay as I go even though they had a swipe of credit card which I normally settle up with every hotel I’ve ever stayed in when checking out,when I simply asked why,she barked at me that’s the way it is I’ve already told you over the phone earlier,I only asked….

On ordering some more drinks near the end of the night,the same member of staff was smoking a cigarette outside with some hotel guests,I stood waiting at the bar for 5 minutes waiting to be served,she had seen me,when she finally arrived there was no apology etc…she quickly took my order then I hadn’t even put my card over the chip and pin machine and she was off serving the next customers,no thank you or do you need your receipt.

Staff were amazed when I asked what time breakfast was served. They only serve breakfast at the week end.
I consider this a problem with Expedia rather than the hotel itself.
Facilities are just about OK but no chair or desk in room and shower has potential to scald.
This is an old building with steep stairs that were an effort for older people like ourselves to access.
However, apart from the misrepresentation regarding breakfast, the hotel provides reasonable value for the amount charged.

Really disappointing. Looked so lovely from the outside but nothing good about the inside.
We had ordered and paid for breakfast. When we arrived we were told for the first time that the hotel was not doing food. We would not have booked it had we known. We were given eventually a refund on the breakfast but it was not forthcoming!
A great shame as this hotel is near to where my daughter is now living at university - had thought we would use it again but changed our mind on that!

Hotel in large old house, needs refurbishing

This hotel is an old house and still has all the old features and could do with a refurbishment of rooms. There is adequate parking on grounds or next to property. It has great access to Sefton Park and easy access into Liverpool centre or airport. Staff were friendly and helpful. Unfortunately there was a party on the night we stayed at the music kept us awake until midnight. Beds were not that comfortable but room was warm and plenty of hot water. Room and bathroom very dated and in urgent need of an overhaul.

staff wehere like family you get that homly feel we fekt like the only people there roome was perfect in every way had all we needed sleep like a baby hotel was warm throughout the whole hotel spotles food amazing we are coming back for the summer carnival and would reccommend to anyone we really didnt want to go home but are looking forward to going back the vale for money brilliant i cant beleive you get all that for such small price great feel to the building i would love to reaserarch the history of this besutiful building see what i can find out xxxxx thank you to all involved in our stay will not forget how happy we all feel xxxxxx
