Excellent location, friendly team
Fantastic location, easy access to transport, restaurants and shopping. The staff are really lovely and helpful and friendly (like everyone we met in Liverpool!) it’s a great big old house and full of character, and we booked a ‘spacious room’ which was indeed spacious and comfortable, with a huge bed (very comfy). Although on top floor (stairs, no lift), there was nothing in the way of view - just brick walls - and the decor (dark grey paint/black wallpaper with colour floral pattern and mostly black carpet) made the room feel somewhat dark. Skylight in bathroom helped. Shower fabulous. Very tired looking grout/sealant in shower area (grimy and mouldy), and generally furniture tired, chipped, a bit on the shabby side. A lot of scuffed paintwork etc. no fridge in room but reception happy to let us use theirs. We had a great stay overall, just suggest a bit of a refresh.

We stayed two nights in a very spacious room at this small hotel. It is in an ideal location being very close to Liverpool1 and Albert dock area. Also only a short walk to the two cathedrals. The staff were friendly and helpful and a broken shower was fixed quickly but the faulty tv proved more difficult. There is no dining room but a small Italian restaurant is attached, which had a basic breakfast menu.
Not a good place if you have mobility issues as there are a few steep steps to the entrance and no lift inside.

What to say ! We payed over the odds as it was Grand National weekend but I still expected more, the hotel, is in a great location, the staff were really helpful and Friendly but that's the only positives

We had no house keeping, we were brought fresh towels and cups when I asked.

The hotel is in a great location, everything you'd need around you. Great option for a short break in Liverpool.
Room was lovely and warm slept soundly in the bed. WiFi was patchy at best, though we weren't in the room that long to use it to sky great extent.
Extra mention for the staff. Meg, who checked us in, Pat, security man and the lovely cleaner that saw us in the morning were all fantastic and a credit to the hotel.

Very disappointing stay. Kept up due to noise all night; left at 5am. Shower was unusable as the temperature control was broken. Bed very uncomfortable.

The photos of the hotel are outdated. Kitchen/bar not open. All the windows were dirty. Lots of dust on the window frames. Room quite spartan. Hardly any decor (1 picture on the wall). Stayed on top floor. Boxed in by other buildings hence no view.

The property was lovely, the lady on reception was nice and welcoming when we arrived. The room was modern and easy to relax in, we just couldn't get the heating on but the lady on reception was amazing again and provided a portable heater. The beds are very comfortable and overall we had a great stay :)

Cosy hotel in excellent location for central Liverpool. The staff were really helpful and welcoming, the room was comfortable but the shower wasn't very powerful and tended to leak out of the shower base which could get annoying if staying longer than a couple of days.

The hotel had no food or breakfast options. There were no shampp or shower gel and the shower leaked all.over the floor and into the carpet. Was a mouldy smell all night..

Good value for one night
This place is good for a pitstop / one night or so. Check in staff were lovely, hotel & room were nice and warm in the winter. As a solo female traveller, the hotel also felt very safe. My room was good for the price, but a couple of added details could have made it great. A bedside lamp so that there was more option than just the ceiling light would be great, and looking at the shower drainage system which is slow - the shower is more of a wet room and the floor could flood easily.

Check in was easy, room 202 is big, the small heater in the corner doesnt really warm the room, so a bit on the cold side. Windows could do with soundproofing as the sound from outside is very audible, didnt really bother us but my bother others.
Bathroom is well equipped and large with underfloor heating.
The full Lock & Key full breakfast is delicious and worh every penny.

Really nice stay for one night to visit family in Liverpool. Overall, the hotel offered exceptional value for money and I'd not hesitate to return in future.

Reviews dont match the hotel, its poor.
Booked 2 rooms for 1 night. My mother is disabled and the hotel were not able to offer a ground floor room. They also have no lift and no accessibility measures in place at all. My room was on the top floor and smells really badly of dame, so much so that its saturated all of my cloths for days, even after they had been washed. As the hotel weren't able to offer an alternative room for a disabled woman, unlkly that they would have a replacement for a damp room so i didn't ask, we had also arrived late in the day and were there only 1 night for a funeral. I don't know who has written all of the reviews for this hotel but my experience was not good at all. Even without the damp and accessibility issues, the rooms were nicely decorated but average at best. Had a kettle but nowhere to plug it in and a leaky shower. Id give this place a miss.

A disappointment given previous reviews
I was a little disappointed, given the previous reviews and Sunday Times recommendation. Staff were extremely friendly and the room was clean and bed very comfortable. However the condition of the room, particularly the bathroom, was a little tired. Also, the sink in the bathroom was ridiculously small and shower screen inadequate, so that the floor became flooded after use.

Hotel was beautifully decorated and the staff very helpful. The location was very central but this did make it noisy as it was on quite a main road and the glazing and curtains did nothing to dampen the noise. If you book here, bring ear plugs, especially on bin days.
Also the en-suite door didn't close fully and having a shower flooded the whole en-suite which is probably why the door didn't fit as there was a lot of water damage to it.

I booked a smaller room than usual, and was worried the bed wouldn’t be big enough (I’m a pretty big guy, and I was sharing with my wife). It was bigger than it looked, and we had a great sleep at the end of a great night. The bar makes an amazing Tiramisu Espresso Martini, too.

Absolutely loved this hotel, such a great vibe. Outstanding customer care, nothing is too much trouble and you are really made to feel welcome. Very modern and loved our room 201 it was stunning, the bed was out of this world. Ok the bathroom well I say cupboard is not good but the room it’s self makes up for it as it was huge and just simple stunning. Will definitely return.

This hotel is an absolute necessity to anyone’s itinerary in Liverpool. A complete reflection of the community, authentic and clean i will be back specifically because of this hotel. Cannot beat the convenience of this location. Only used Uber from the train station and to the hotel everything you need to see from the Beatles to Albert Docks and shopping are within steps of this property. Thank you again.

Excellent location just next to Liverpool One, bus and rail stations are of walking distance. Next time when I am in town I’ll definitely be staying in this hotel again.

Our stay at Lock and Key was incredible. Right in the middle of the city centre so no need for an Uber or taxi. Luke was very kind to help assist us in getting medical attention when we arrived with a small emergency. Very kind and friendly staff! This was my first time at the hotel and I was disappointed. I stayed 3 nights and the room I had was very hot and extremely noisy as a family live next door and their courtyard was outside the window. I did not sleep for the 3 nights. Also the room was not adequate, there were no tea / coffee making facilities until the third day, no water or fridge, no glasses to drink from and it was very basic. I also was surprised there was no bedside table and the plug by the bed was not accessible. The receptionist apologised but this did not really compensate the inadequacies. On a positive I had breakfast 1 day and it was very nice.

The room was comfortable. There were more stairs than we expected and no elevator. I have issues walking and the stairs were difficult for me but the staff was nice and helpful. We did have a pigeon who decided to sleep on the window sill outside and it was really noisy but the hotel can't be held responsible for the local wildlife. I would not mind staying here again.

I had a phone call en route to say that we had been upgraded to a spacious room which I was obviously very pleased about! Unfortunately the room was quite a few staircases up with no lift and was located near the top of the building facing the very busy Duke Street. The noise was unbearable especially on the 2nd night with sirens, an alarm going off, bin men in the early hours collecting glass recycling, we didn’t get any sleep 😴
The room was very dark and needed lighting especially over the tea/coffee making area and mirror.
The bathroom was small - a wet room and the floor and bath mat were soaked.

I would thoroughly recommend this hotel, very central. The staff were very helpful and friendly, and wanted to make my stay as comfortable as they could. There is a small but good restaurant and over all the place is very quirky.
There was a good fan in my spacious room. They take a £50 deposit on credit card but hopefully that will be returned to my account as I left the room as I found it.

Not given 5 stars because there are a couple of things that need attention in the room we stayed in, the windows were really difficult to open and shut, one of the sockets was loose on the wall and the wet room literally floods when you have a shower. There was a plastic strip which I think was supposed to stop this which had lifted and broken. With a little tlc, this hotel would be perfect.

Often said but the service here is just fantastic! From a telephone enquiry prior to staying, to check-in and everything else until check-out the Team is one of the most friendly, professional and happiest I've stayed with. Breakfast was great too.
