Wonderful Hotel in a Wonderful Location

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hotel Pausania. It is a modest hotel with a warm friendly atmosphere in a building characterized by the history and classic architecture of old Venice. Upon arrival guests enter the hotel through a historic stone courtyard that makes you feel like you have traveled back in time. The room was comfortable, clean and spacious enough to accommodate four of us, including our two children with separate beds. The staff was friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us when we accidentally dropped a ring down the sink drain. They were miraculously able to retrieve it for us! And the location!! I can't say enough about the location. Dorsoduro has none of the hordes of tourists and daytrippers that San Marco and San Polo have but all of the charm! There are plenty of restaurants, shops and picturesque piazzas surrounding the hotel and all within walking distance of the more famous attractions such as St. Mark's, etc. I can't recommend Hotel Pausania enough!

No shower in room - only bathtub which was disappointing and not made clear on Expedia app. Breakfast choices were mediocre and limited compared to hotels in Florence and Rome which we stayed at after Venice. They also gave only one complimentary bottle of water for tea and coffee which was cheap. Unlimited water should be available for price of room. Location of hotel was good and quiet.

Loved the location

First, the positives: Hotel Pausania is located in a convenient location. It's a short walk from the hotel to the Ca' Rezzonico water bus stop, two plazas with plenty of dining options, and a bridge that crosses the Grand Canal, which leads to the main tourist area. The bathroom in our room was spotless and modern; the bedroom featured a beautiful ceiling mural and glass chandelier. The hotel also has a lovely breakfast room that overlooks a grassy courtyard. The buffet-style breakfast was a hit with our American teens.

Now the negatives...My family had booked two rooms through Hotels.com, one in my name, the other in my adult son's name. At check-in, the desk clerk accepted my name and our passports to check into the first room, but asked my son to produce additional proof of his reservation. Next we encountered a foul odor in the family room, which I brought to the attention of hotel staff. To their credit, they promptly sent someone to investigate and it seemed better when we returned from dinner. Before dinner, I saw an employee standing by a bar in the lobby area. I inquired about a drink and was advised to make one in my room with the minibar. Finally, there was maintenance work going on in the narrow hallway at the top of the steps just outside our room door the morning that we checked out.

Excellent service plus beautiful peace in Venice

I can highly recommend Hotel Pausania, it is a beautiful place to stay while in Venice, located just off a quiet square with many lovely neighbourhoods to explore & have meals in. It is within walking distance to the Peggy Guggenheim Museum, Academy Bridge, also the water taxi can drop and pick you up nearby. Thanks to Hotel Pausania for a peaceful & delightful stay in Venice, my room had a beautiful view over the garden from big double windows that opened for the morning sun.

Lovely situation in the less touristy area of Venice, in the university area where lots of local people live. Close to the Grand Canal for water transport. Lots of good sensibly priced places to eat and drink. Brilliant breakfasts and staff all friendly and helpful. We had a lovely short break and if we visit Venice again we will come back here.

Hotel Pausania is a very well kept 3* hotel in the charming quarter of Dorsoduro, where some of the best museums and galleries are located. The vaporetto stop is Ca' Rezzonico, where the Alilaguna airport boat can be reached. Don't miss the opportunity to visit Ca' Rezzonico, an 18th century noble palace where you can have a glimpse of the richness of the Republic in elaborate carvngs, paintings and authentic furnishings. Brocaded walls, silken coverings, a walk-in closet with delicately hand painted doors can be seen up close. There is a cafe where you can enjoy a reasonably priced sandwich and drink overlooking the Grand Canal, a premium in Venice. The front desk manager was genteel and helpful in all matters, including help with luggage, as there is no elevator in this authentic Venetian former residence. Restaurants are plentiful a short walk away on Piazza San Barnaba. Ristoteca Oniga was my favorite, with delicious Venetian specialties, friendly service and rustic ambience. Or, turn left as you exit the hotel, cross the little bridge and head to Piazza San Margarita, a huge square lined with good, affordable restaurants, gelaterias and several ATMs. The hotel serves a good breakfast overlooking a pleasant garden. The cold cuts are above average. I would return in a heartbeat, but bring a wash cloth because they are rarely supplied in this category hotel. The towels, mattress and bedding were excellent, however. A great choice in the quiet heart of Venice.

Helpful staff. Very nice room. Pretty entryway to the lobby and the upstairs entry way was extra pretty with ceiling murals and chandeliers. A few sets of stairs to climb to our room, but there was a porter for suitcases if needed. Good breakfast choices and yummy cappuccinos. A bit further away from main areas. I would stay here again.

Overall we had a pleasant stay at the hotel. The room was clean and in an excellenet location. Only a ten minute walk from the airport bus and train station.

The only downside was a few mosquitoes in the room and poor shower pressure. But, overall a good stay.

Lovely old hotel and great location

A really lovely old hotel in a great location. Very close to one of the best squares in Vence, Campo Santa Margherita. There are quite a few steps up to the rooms so that may not suit some people.
The staff were very helpful especially as my booking had come through wrongly (probably my fault) but was sorted out without any drama.

The hotel was very far from any of the main attractions we wanted to see. The room was nice, but the bathroom was not in great condition. There were cracked tiles, rust stains, and build-up around the fixtures. The staff was cold and not very helpful. It was okay for the price, but I would not stay again.

The old building is lovely and very well located. We were not very pleased with the service. The gentleman who did our check-in was formal and correct. The lady who attended the night shift was openly rude. When my husband asked her if she could confirm the boat schedule for us she reluctantly went to check it out for us while she said that we could just \"check it online ourselves\". We did not feel very welcome in general while we interacted with her.

Generally nice clean hotel but small. Bedroom too small and bathroom even tinier. Struggled to move about in the bathroom and there were no hooks to hang your clothes/dressing gown in the bathroom. No mirrors in the hotel room except in the bathroom.
Room was a little dusty in the corners but general cleanliness was good. Safety deposit box not working in room but were offered use of one in reception.
Decent continental breakfast. Staff very friendly and helpful. Location is also very good. About a 15 minutes walk to San Marco square and Rialto Bridge.

I would like to recommend anyone and everyone who is interested in visiting Venice to try this hotel. Location is great as it is just one vaporetto ride from the train station and a few meters on foot following the designates stop to the hotel. The room was great and enough for someone who likes it a little more than basic.

My review will not be enough if I did not mention how tremendously helpful the reception staff named CARLO was, for the entire stay. Let me enumerate how big of an aid he was for the trip. First, my mobile hotspot was not working, thus we had very limited data access affecting our navigation. Knowing how easy it was to get lost in Venice without a GPS, Carlo provided us with a map, with instructions on how to take the shortesr and most scenic routes to the tourist spots. Not only that, he even gave us recommendations on restaurants that were typically Venetian, and not touristy to get the most bang for your buck while having the most authentic flavors of the city. He even pointed us to the nearest local grocery store, helped us figure out the water transport and so much more. My husband and I cannot thank him enough for all the help he has provided us with as he made our stay in Venice, definitely one for the books and something to always look back on.

I think our 5day visit to Venice was made all the better our initial visual surprise on entering the high ceilinged room with a comfy bed, a healthy and delicious breakfast of fruits yoghurt coffee croissants cereals breads cold meat etc and was a well placed spot to enjoy boat transport from the airport with just a short walk with baggage (150m ish) as well as poke around exploring this quieter area of Venice with easy access to the main sights.

Fantastic! The family room on the second floor was very clean and spacious, plus it was warm for during the cold, humid winter in Venice. If you have long hair and you’re not a fan of letting it dry naturally, I would advise you to bring your own hairdryer as the one attached to the wall wasn’t very powerful. This wouldn’t, however, deter us from staying in this lovely hotel again. The staff working at reception and serving breakfast were so friendly and made us feel very welcome. Would highly recommend Hotel Pausania!

A wonderful hotel.

This is a wonderful place to stay. We loved it. We loved the location, room, the hotel, the salon, and the staff were so helpful and friendly. The hotel and room gave us a real taste of old Venice decor.

And there were tea and coffee - making facilities!

The area the hotel was in was calmer during the week, and much busier at the weekend.

It was good value too. We would stay here again in an instant

A Venetian Character Hotel

A very pleasant character hotel well sited for much of what Venice has to offer. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel features are appropriate for a site seeing holiday, clean and secure. The only down side of the hotel was the 'hit and miss' Air Con in the bedroom. The very warm days and nights makes the room uncomfortable. The September mosquitos take advantage of an open window.

I would stay at the same hotel again.

About a 200m walk from the nearest water bus stop. No lift so not ideal if you can’t cope with stairs but the hotel were able to accommodate us with a first floor room on request. Be warned though Italian hotels don’t seem to have non slip bath/shower mats making the bath a bit of a tricky prospect for my mother

Beautiful decor in this classic hotel. Plenty of room to relax on second floor in lounge... if you don't mind all the stairs. There are stairs to all levels of rooms (even \"first\" floor rooms) - just be aware in case you are traveling with someone who cannot handle stairs. The breakfast was great. Good proximity to eateries and water bus stop. Be advised they will ask to keep your passports when you first check in, and will make copies of them before returning them to you. Also, be prepared to pay the city tax in cash at check out. (Something we forgot to save Euros for - and had to scramble at check out!)

Very low ceiling under bath, very hard to take shower. Friendly and helpful staff. A wifi signal has unstable level on mobile, but with good level on tablet, good speed! I could not turn on air conditioner, so we opened a window at night. Nights were quiet. Will we choose this hotel again? - We think yes.

A little dissapointing

The hotel was undergoing renovations which inconvenient - I would have appreciated a warning. The breakfast room did not have sufficient tables or service and I did not feel that the photographs accurately portrayed the hotel. But it was in an excellent area with lots of restaurants, close to a canal, was clean and perfectly adequate for a night.

Very nice staff, room service was very good, breakfast was fair, clean and tidy dining room.
Niggles, broken arm on chair, kept falling off, reported no change. Tv remote broken & taped up, replaced. When having a shower bathroom floor filled with water, the screen didn't seal with the bath. Two showers and the floor is completely flooded, drain in the floor is set too high so serves no purpose. There is a plug socket in the bathroom, I don't know the rating but not a good mix. We blocked the flow with towels which were changed daily. I didn't report this as it's obviously something the hotel would be aware of. Generally the hotel was good and the staff were very helpful and cheerful.

The staff was very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. The hotel was clean, very quaint, and had a lot of character. There was a low ceiling over tub. We had to kneel to shower. I thought it was funny and didn't mind, but it could be an issue if you have difficulty ambulating. Area was perfect. Close to everything, but not in the middle of the tourist area .
