This was the worst hotel experience I've had in 50 years. The hotel is OK at best. The real issue is after we checked in and we're given our room, it was small, dirty and outdated. We look at other hotels in Zermatt and decided we wanted to change given this was a special vacation for us. Hotel Alex owners offered zero flexibility with their cancelation policy and charged us the full value for our entire stay ($1,800 USD). We were asking for a fair compromise, not a full refund. We left after 1 night. AMEX and Expedia were unable to help us due to their archaic policies. DO NOT BOOK here unless you are willing to live with what you get upon arrival. The staff, besides the owners (husband and wife) were all very nice. The husband Rene wouldn't return my phone calls or speak with me at all. So sad that there is such greed in the world.

The property is in a central and very convenient location. It’s less than a 5-minute walk from the train station. The staff was great and helpful. The room was a bit too warm for my liking but not a huge deal. Overall, a solid property.

We came to Zermatt last year and wanted to stay at Hotel Alex but others in the group did not and we ended up staying elsewhree at a nice place with no restaurant or gym but near the Matterhorn Express lift. This year after a group trip fell through we decided to give the Hotel Alex a try. It a much better experience in Zermatt. The location is perfect, right next to the train station and the coop is right across the street. The gym was great and I am a non skier so used it often. The vibe of the hotel is great. The staff are all wonderful, like you kind of expect from a family owned hotel. The restaurant for half board in the evening was amazing. You can add it for a reasonable fee each day and go out if you dont like the menu of the half board. The food at dinner was overall wonderful. The Raclette on Monday was a treat as was the desert buffet one day. The half board portions are fine and can enjoy multiple courses. Their wine list is extensive. I highly recommend the Hotel Alex. It was a great week in Zermatt.

Upon arrival I paid for two good rooms they were the same price they tried to say they upgraded me and then in the middle my trip they told me I needed to wake up early the next day and go to a different room and they said they forgot to tell me upon check in. I’m not sure how many people they’ve done this too. It was the first time this was done to me and it was completely unacceptable.

Nice hotel but some serious problems

The resort is funky and eclectic and in a great location, but some of the staff were quite rude with no reason. We did not have any heat in our room all night, and the young lady at the front desk was completely dismissive of our efforts to remedy. We also did not have any hot water in the room until some four hours after check-in; again, no great sympathy was displayed. Such a shame as our stay in Zermatt was lovely overall, and we even enjoyed this funky little hotel, despite the very rude and cold girl at the front desk, and even colder water and room at night!

This property has a lot of charm even though it's an older property. It can be fairly noisy since it is older, but it has so much character and is in a great area. The hotel bar was a favorite at the end of the day before heading to dinner and even a place for a night cap. The bartender from Italy (i forgot his name) was attentive and fun. This place apparently gets extremely lively during ski season. My room was originally right by the elevator and they were able to accommodate me to a more quiet room which was nice. I had booked a small room, which was quaint, but clean and comfortable. It is walkable to all the attractions and to the gondola to the Matterhorn. I would stay here again.

We stayed at the Alex Hotel in to celebrate a special occasion, and we couldn't have asked for a better experience. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised with an upgrade, making our stay even more memorable. The hotel itself is beautiful, exceptionally clean, and incredibly comfortable.

The staff went above and beyond to make our stay perfect, with special thanks to Thomas, who was very welcoming upon check-in. The restaurant is outstanding and the food is delicious.

We will definitely be returning. Highly recommended!

I throughly enjoyed my stay at the Alex. Staff was more than friendly and accommodating, the facilities are immaculately clean and the room and property had everything I wanted in a hotel. The Ski room with heated boot and glove warmers in my private locker were a fantastic add that I wasn’t aware of. Sofi and the staff were very friendly. Zermatt in the Summer - Excellent

The Alex is a traditional hotel, it is good in the heat of the summer so it must be great for the winter snow season. Very convenient for the station being only 150M to psh the cases.

Honestly this hotel was a HUGE surprise. I was not expecting it to be SO big and so very well equipped! Honestly it's the perfect place to stay in Zermatt. It's very close to the train, literally around the corner. The entrance is hard to find since it's so big, so just got up the stairs and walk into the doors that say Restaurant. The staff were super nice and provided me with everything I needed above and beyond. I was truly treated with so much care. The big bonus for me was learning about the free spa area. It's huge! I used the pool and spa area a few times and I was always the only one there. The lounge and bar area is amazing and huge as well. Water is drinkable everywhere in Zermatt. The room was super cozy and clean. Very comfortable. Bathroom was great with heated floors and a spa tub. There are just so many perks to this place it will blow your mind. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

I select this hotel because it is nearby train station. Excellent facility including swimming pool, sauna, spa etc. It is unexpected that there is a hydro massage bath tub in my room. I feel very comfortable during my stay. Staff are friendly. Breakfast is very good and I enjoy a very nice dinner.

Nice escape for a couple of days

Alex hotel is located in the center of Zermatt. I came to this hotel because of the SPA as i don't ski, it was nice alternative, they have a large pool where it's possible to swim properly when there are not many people. Hotel is conviniently located close to the main station and main street of Zermatt. My room was quite small, in general overrated, but it was clean and confortable bed. The breakfast was excellent. However during Covid it was not possible to bring a guest for the dinner at the restaurant- this is inconvenient.

The lounge area was decorated in Swiss style, with friendly bar staff, and a great venue for apres ski and Pre dinner drinks. Hotel bus picked us up from the bus drop at bottom of village and dropped us off at 05:30 am. Bedrooms spacious, comfortable and clean.

Really beautiful and well appointed older hotel. However, they have failed to update the rooms - old carpets, drapes and beds with uncomfortable pillows. Dinner staff was also very rude telling my wife we could not dine on their 160 euro per person buffet because she didn't have the right footwear - while their restaurant had no customers! (its no wonder). Instead we spent our dinner money at a nice steak place nearby. This is a family \"resort\" so really surprised they would employ such arrogance and run off business that way. The rest of the staff / owners were otherwise helpful. Would recommend this destination as its so cute inside and very close to the train terminal. But they need to invest in some upgrades to the very old rooms and customer attitudes if they want to stay in business.

The hotel did not have air conditioner in the room, it was hot inside during the date we stayed. Nice staffs except an old waiter in the breakfast room; he shouted so loud four times\" Extra\" to a guest when the guest wanted an omelette which requires extra fee. I never saw such a bad attitude waiter in the States.

Where to stay in zermatt!

Found a great deal on the site. I have stayed at lot great places some supposedly 5 stars. Hotel Alex ranks up right up there with them and above many. Great drinks/food, nice rooms, great spa/pool. I would not consider hotel Alex inexpensive but great value for luxury and goodness.

Fantastic hotel in a great location in Zermatt! A block from the train station, but tucked away down a side street, so it was quiet and private. Hotel is beautiful and comfortable, rooms are large, clean, comfortable and well decorated, bar is cozy, and hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Ski room downstairs makes getting to and from the slopes so much easier. Can't say enough about this wonderful place - we will be back!

The breakfast was a disappointment less spread and the staff sucked. There were dead mosquitos on the tables and the staff couldn't understand basic English above that reluctant to work as well non courteous.

What's not to like?

The hotel is welcoming and friendly with a strong personal touch. The decor throughout is unique and sets it apart from the sameness of most modern hotels. The swimming pool is superb. The food and service are excellent, especially at breakfast where the copious buffet can be supplemented by individually prepared omelettes or made to order porridge(best I have had outside Scotland!). I also enjoyed a south facing balcony with view of the Matterhorn, and only a two minute walk from the station.
All in all A first class hotel of individual character getting very good value for money .

Great place for a half board stay!

Stayed over 2 nights at the hotel as part of a ski trip visiting several ski resorts in Europe. Very convenient location near the train station but the single rooms have staircase access as it is in-between floors. Very helpful staff in the hotel that are always ready to serve the guests' needs.

Bathroom comes complete with Molton Brown amenities and the meal in the hotel's restaurant was fantastic. Even if you do not come to stay, have a meal here!

Only downside was the slow wifi, but considering the remote location, it was adequate. Bedding was also a bit on the soft side.

I have great things to say about the Hotel Alex. It is right near the train station and I was delighted to view the Matterhorn from my room. Very nice woodcut ceiling, good food - a wonderful trip. They have a nice spa and pool - I had not been to Zermatt before and did not know what to expect, and was nicely surprised.

Fin resort precis bredvid stationen i Zermatt. Enkelt att ta sig från tåget och även lätt att ta Gornergrat tåget upp till skidåkning.

God frukost i frukostmatsalen och trevlig personal som hjälper till med allt.

Det finns ett spa med swimmingpool, jacuzzi och bastu i källaren. Också bra men ganska lyhört och blir högljutt när där är lite folk. Hade varit bra att se över akustiken i spadelen.
