It was ok for a night on a budget. It's in a great location in walkable distance from the centre and felt safe. However, there was no hand towel, so we had to use our shower ones. The shower gel came in individual packs in tiny amounts, one for each person! There were 2 plugs in the entire room, one of which was for the TV so we had to unplug it. Found a few hairs on pillows and on the toilet seat. The elevator is tiny, avoid if you're claustrophobic.

Was promised AC. Did not get it. Instead we were put high on the 4th floor with no AC or fans at a balmy 91 degrees, room was hotter than outside. We got sick and immediately left for another hotel. Still fighting for a refund. When asked front desk, their response was ‘our manager is out of town, we can’t help you’.

I would book again on my next trip to Paris

If you’re accustomed to spacious American style hotels, you’ll need to adjust your expectations. If you want to experience an old-style Parisian hotel and one that doesn’t break the bank, this hotel would be a decent choice. It is due for a refresh. But I found my room to be more than adequate. It was clean, a decent bed and good water pressure in the shower. It was quiet even though it is on a major street. The staff was very personable and professional. The location is super convenient as it’s just steps away from the Place de la République, the metro and several bus routes.

Great location for a no frills hotel

Pros: Fabulous location with lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. Close to two metro stops.

Employees were great, very friendly and helpful. We encountered no problems while we were there and were always greeted after being out.

Clean: Everything was clean. Beds were decently comfortable.

This is a pay for what you get kind of place. The room, hallway, staircase are small, especially for 3 large Americans, but everything was comfortable. No frills, but no concerns either. Exactly what we were looking for!

Things to consider: no AC. We were there when it was decently hot. When the window was open, the breeze was very nice at cooling things off, but then it was noisy on the street side.

Noise: All of us slept fine, but the noise level in our room with the window open was loud. Normal traffic/siren/people noises. If you are a light sleeper, this might bother you, but then you should probably look for a place not so near the center of the city.

Would absolutely stay here again!

Toilet seat too small.
Has to ask for the heat to be turned on almost every night.
No shower capacity, so had to take bathes and I have a mobolity issue, so the up and down was hard.
They ignored my ask to not enter to clean the room.
Towels not clean.
Floor not swept.
If you like the feeling of camping, it will be good for you.

The view from my room was beautiful out the balcony. The shower was ridiculously small and inconvenient, the elevator was so small for a person over 150lbs, the staff was wonderful. I had a great time primarily because of the location and the balcony. If i was on an inner room i wouldn't have stayed longer than a night. I was lucky to have a street view and balcony! Staff was great! The walls are so thin i could talk to my neighbors which was embarrassing.

By far the worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Bears no resemblance to any of the pictures, the hotel is completely misrepresented of our room.
The hotel response to our complaints was very dismissive.
Very dirty, hole in sheet, curtain falling off track, another window had no curtain at all, cracked and mouldy tiles in en-suite. Worn out towels.

Convenient budget central hotel

Friendly and warm reception, the hotel is basic but we were comfortable. The twin room was ok, big enough for two, with clean beds, mattresses and sheets. The bathroom was quite small but useable with clean towels and basic soap and shampoo/shower gel and the water pressure is very good. We could hear some noise from other rooms and hallway but nothing excessive, just normal activity. The road outside is very busy but the windows, when closed, block most of the noise. There's a very small elevator that's good enough to take one person with luggage to the upper floors. They can keep your bags safe if you arrive before your room is ready or if you need to check out but your train or flight isn't departing until later in the day so you can still enjoy Paris without them.
It's a one star hotel that's very central, close to public transport, restaurants, bars, bakeries and other shops and a great base to explore the city on a budget.
We stayed three nights over a weekend and would stay again.

My review of average is based on not being used to the space in europe coming from canada but i guess thats a norm there. The area is walkable even though we were coming home at midnight a few times so felt very safe.

fantastic position - few min from place de republique - so lots of activities and loads of cafes etc - within 2-5 min of three metros (oberkampf/republique/temple) - 30 min walk and you are at the louvre and the seine - less for the pompidou centre. the staff are brilliant especially bernard who is lovely and very entertaining with his conversation. the room and hotel were very clean and good - but one drawback the curtains were hanging off and they were too high to put right (really high ceiling) but we were not concerned. we liked the room. we liked the hotel. we loved the location.

Hotel Ferney is conveniently located near Place de la République, a bustling and exciting part of Paris with great restaurants and bars around, coupled with convenient transportation links to the rest of the city. The area is well trafficked and lit, so you feel safe coming back late at night.

The hotel itself was clean and tidy. Our rooms were cleaned daily. Some of the photos I’ve seen on Expedia look quite dated, but our room was bright, modern and appears to have recently renovated - so I think it’s time for the hotel to update their photos!

We also had a balcony, which was a nice place to rest, you could even see the Sacré-Cœur. The staff were especially helpful, and had a great sense of humour.

You won’t be getting 5 star amenities, but you also shouldn’t expect it at this price range. Overall, I would say that hotel ferney république offers excellent value for money, and I would happily stay here again.

This was the most disgusting place I have ever stayed in. There was mould all over the bathroom walls, the shower drain was blocked, the bath mat was an old shredded towel folded in half, there were no pillow cases and over all it was disgraceful and nothing like the photos on line

Some nice restaurants near by that all offer happy hour specials.
Fortunately is was cool in Paris as the room did not have air conditioning.

Bed consisted of two lightweight single beds made as double, which straight away slid apart as soon with any movement on the bed.

The property is extremely old. The TV was almost the size of an ipad screen. The linens and bedding very old. The pillows were linen rolled together and camouflage. It did include breakfast which was a croissant and a hot choco packet, spread and a strip of chese. The orange hiuce was in a shot size glass. The room key was an okd key that you had to leave by tge desk every time you left.
The area Rublique is okay and accessible by lots of trains. Has many restaurants, and a busy street live if uou want tovwalk around.
The staff at tge hotel were nice byt the condition of the place itself is not good. Only the bathroom which seem to be recently renovated.
The lift can only hold 2 carry-on with no person. So one person walked down the stairs, then another placed our carryon in the elevator and send them down. Thank God we only had small bags.

Wifi in the apartment was very poor. The apartment wasn’t well cleaned, plates and cutlery were unclean and the absence of dishwashing liquid meant we could not wash them. There were also inadequate cooking utensils. The location and neighbourhood were, however, good with a metro close by.

I liked the location: near the metro, central, historic square, with lots of bistros, restaurants, bakeries, convenience stores and shopping around. I felt safe in the area.
The property needs a good facelift, the staff was friendly, amenities were very basic (no hairdryer, you had to ask for a pillow) and the wifi was too weak.

Over priced and basic. I’ve never booked a hotel that didn’t have an air conditioner nor a mini fridge. I had to open the windows for air and basically had the neighbors looking at me every night and even had a conversation with one neighbor. I couldn’t fit my luggage in the elevator and myself at the same time because it was so small. When I checked in, there was a dirty shirt hanging the the window seal. The internet didn’t work in the room, only in the reception. This was the worse hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I booked it because it was in a convenient location. That was the only good thing about this hotel.

République is kind've a getto area. There's homeless people and graffitti everywhere, so this alone should cause anyone to avoid staying in this area.
But this \"hotel\" had internet only available in the lobby. The rooms weren't particularly nice (the decorum is basic, at best) and the continental breakfast was not the greatest.

I stayed at l’Hotel Voltaire
Republique for six nights this past week.
Overall I want to say it was excellent and I am very pleased,
I do want to mentioned a few things before I turn on the compliments....
He sign out in front does no service to the hotel. The canvas sign looked like a cheap hostel and had me worried as I entered.
The lovely photo of the dining area makes it look rather more sizable than it really is.
But
and these are important buts...the simple room was clean, the bed comfortable and the shower was magnificent!
The street was quiet on the side I stayed.
The staff was
Friendly...so friendly and helpful to me - they were really wonderful, in my opinion and the biggest I selling point.
(I love the marais république area, my favorite bakery from my last visits is still there.)
It is a simple, clean and comfortable place to stay with a superb staff b I will stay there on my next visit.

Firstly, the Expedia photo of the property was not the hotel! The room itself was dingy, sheets were stained with no pillows on the bed. The bolsters (not pillows) were wrapped in the bottom stained sheet. The box spring of the mattress nearly touched the floor and clearly had not been cleaned or changed in years There was mold on the pipes in the bathroom. The alleged WIFI was only available (to 2 people at a time) in the lobby. The room was poorly lit. The front of the building looked seedy as was the area. For safety sake, 3 of us decided not to venture out alone- and when we went out we had to surrender our room key to the person attending the \"front desk...Overall I would recommend this be taken off the \"available\" hotels until it had a full over-haul.
We saw it had 5 stars? I must have been self-rated by the owners; it didn't warrant even 1/2 star

The hotel is cramped and not air-conditioned. For ventilation, we had to open a window of the 1st floor room. We couldn’t sleep because of all the traffic noise! The listing clearly states that iron/ironing board is available on request. When we asked, they said they had neither. Generally terrible experience.

At check in, I was sent to a room which had not been cleaned from the previous guest. I was then reassigned to another room which supposedly was clean. Sheets and towels were dingy. I had to sanitize the bathroom as well as ask for pillows as there were none in the room. To make matters worse, on my last night, a bed bug was crawling on my pillow! I was bitten! The place is unsanitary and should be reported to the department of health.
I am requesting a refund.

The room was dirty I had to buy a cleaner and scrubb toilet and floor, and buy a candle because the room smelled like sewer water. The blankets had stains. There is no AC I had to buy a fan. People is nice but hotel is really poor. Breakfast is only one croissant and coffee or chocolate and butter. We had room number 1.

For a hotel of 2 stars, I did not have too many expectations. But I was surprised to see how dirty it was. Everything! Luckily we spent a lot of time in the city and we needed it only to sleep a few hours. Also, in the offer it was mentioned that we would have breakfast for 2 for our stay. When we got there, apparently it was only for the first day. anyway, I would not recommend it. Only if you go there for sleeping 5-6 hours and you look for something really cheap. Full of mold, odd smells, walls were stained. Not the mentioned the bed sheets...

Very good location

It is a nice place to stay in Paris and the staff are warm-hearted. The only problem is that the noise of motorbikes in the street, especially at night. So it is better to stay there for just one or two nights.

Bathrooms are disgusting, odorous and full of mold. Stairways are near pitch black with no lighting. Staff are supposed to be at the desk 24/7, however I had to wait 10 mins (within the check-in timeframe) for someone to show up. Sheets and bedding are filthy.

Even though the location is good, very centrally located, receptionist is very profesional & courteous, I wish I didn't booked this hotel, it doesn't look clean and there was a bug walking on the headboard, I guess it was a bed bug, first time Ive seen one, i was paranoid all night and couldn't sleep. on the special request at booking I asked them to please make sure there is no bugs in my room, since other people said there was bed bugs but i thought they should have fixed the problem after costumers had complained about it. Seems like ithey have a serious bed bug problem they can't handle.

WARNING!

Do not stay here! It was an absolutely traumatic experience. Upon arriving at this hotel I was told to pay fees up front. Other hotels I've stayed at in Europe, with a more favorable experience have taken the fees at my departure. The room we were originally given was unkept, had a deteriorating bathroom and holes in the draperies/sheets. I went back to reception immediately and asked for another room. They moved us to room 11, which was a minor improvement, still outdated but with a seemingly cleaner bathroom. We decided to make the best of what we had, left our bags down, and decided to just spend as much time out the room as possible. We returned later that night to try to get some rest. I woke up around 3:30 AM itiching and pulled up the sheets to find bed bugs, not one several. I killed two or three before going back to reception with my arms, legs and buttocks swelling and itiching from the bites. I spoke with Mohammed at the desk who offered no assistance, giving the excuse that the manager wasn't in, he told me that he'd relay my grievance to the manager, but I've yet to hear anything back from management, that was a week ago from today. I went back to the room after speaking with Mohammed and called cheaptickets for help, my mother and I camped out in the bathroom for the hours it took to speak to the customer service team, resulting in a 30 dollar international phone call. I am grateful that Cheaptickets relocation dept. eventually found us other accommodations.

Paris the most beautiful crap hole on earth

I found the room to be a little small, however everything in Europe is very small including most hotel rooms. For the price this place was great. It was a little dirty but far cleaner than most of the city around it to the point that it almost didn’t count. If I was going to return to Paris I wouldn’t mind going back to this hotel. That being said the few days I spend in Paris were enough.

The pictures on the website are deceptive. We asked specifically for a room at the front when we paid the deposit but ended up with an internal room. One towel and one blanket. We were shown another room at the top floor at the front but it was too dirty to accept. It is the second time something like this has happened to us. Rooms shown on the web sites should be the ones customers receive.

You get what you pay

Great location. The condition of the room is ok, we should never expect more for that price. You have to order the breakfast one day before, otherwise nearby bakeries offer reasonable breakfast for 6 Euros.

Nice hotel, friendly and helpful staff

This hotel was great. Simple and nice for our 48 hours in Paris. The room was clean, cozy and comfortable temperature during the cold month of January. I would like to recognize the staff for being so helpful while my father was stuck in Paris for 2 unexpected days. They offered assistance with their printer for some documents and accommodated him for last minute 2 night stay until he was able to leave Paris. Merci beaucoup pour l'attention hôtel Voltaire!

Convient hotel

I was able to get a great deal on Hotels.com for the hotel. The rooms were spacious, the front desk were very nice and help. The one negative I would have is that when we asked to print something they did so (the printer was done so we got our items the next morning) they surprised us with a fee for printing which they didn't tell us about the night before. It was so expensive but the fact the desk clerc didn't mention it the night before was a littleness deceiving. Overal for the price we paid it was a good hotel.

Bedbugs-swalen all over body

I had to change room 3 times a night, was biten whole night, was swalen in face, eyes& body. Had to wait until hotel manager came midday next day because stuff could not do anything. They said they give me refund but they did not. Terrible & expensive experience because had to pay 2 hotels.
