Lovely, quiet hotel with really kind and helpful staff. Great for a tourist only using the hotel to sleep and shower before going out for the day - very well connected travel wise and close to the Seine. Had a late flight when leaving and the staff were able to keep my suitcase until the evening so I didn’t have to worry about any of those ones for hire in the city.

Nice for a solo traveler

Great for a solo traveler. Everything is very practical and tidy. Location is central and right next to République and Temple metro stops. One thing is you have to leave the key at the reception every time you step out, but it's a good way to get to know the friendly staff.

Great value for low frills

If you're stuck in Paris for any reason and looking for a comfortable, charming spot to lay low, this is definitely a decent choice. Located a stone's throw from Place de la Republique, the hotel is close to multiple metro lines and is located in an area with plenty to do. While the hotel itself may be a little outdated in its furnishings, the building still has its charm, and the staff is extremely pleasant. I always came back to a clean room, and there was plenty of space for my things. All in all, a good stay.

Cute place.

Perfect for a one-night stay. My brother and I got a twin room, and the twin beds are teeny, but again, it was a one night stay. It's old-fashioned but very clean, and the staff was very helpful and friendly. Great location near the Place de la République, the Marais, Canal St. Martin, etc.

The best asset of this hotel is it's people!
Hotel is very run down . Electric outlets are ripped out of walls; tiles coming off the bathtub; sink was broken; carpet is horribly old and we got TV working only once when one of hotel employees turned it on for us and it stayed all day on (next day we could't turn it on again). Also, we had trouble sleeping with all the noise from outside.Owners need to fix hotel up!!!! Your employees are great at trying to help customers, but condition of the hotel is \"sorry\".
Will not stay there again.

A Central Gem for a Good Price

The hotel is very close to the Place de la Republique metro station, which is a hub for many metro lines so it's very easy to get around the city. There are plenty of places around to eat and drink. The room was small but perfectly good enough for a long weekend stay with wardrobe, desk and bedside tables. The shower cubicle in the bathroom is a bit tight to get in and out of but the shower itself is very good. Everywhere is spotless. There is always someone on Reception if you need anything. There is a lift.

The building is old but that didn’t matter. The rooms were neat, clean, spacious, and well ventilated. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. Buffet breakfast was good. Location of the hotel was perfect. Less than a minute walk to the subway station.

Paris in october is always lovely

Hotel Meslay République is consistent with what one expects of a 3 star hotel in Paris. Its location is extremely convenient with with many buses & 5 metro lines at nearby
Republique. Convenient shopping, (not great) restaurants & cafes, good covered markets & nearby museums etc. Hotel rooms are small
& basic—not comfortable for long stays—but clean & functional. Service is very good & the staff are friendly. I would recommend the hotel for those who will be busy in the centre of Paris for a short stay.

The location was great and the people at the reception desk were very helpful and friendly. The room itself was a little bit tired. The TV and fridge did not work. It was also very hot during our stay so we had to sleep with the window open and the fan on which reduced privacy and introduced a lot of traffic noise as there was no air conditioning.

Great value for money in good location.

I stayed here for a Thursday night while seeing Paris solo on way to meet friends the next day. It is a simple standard hotel. For the money spent I was pleased. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The rooms may be a bit dated, but they were clean and the bed was comfy.
Staff were helpful. And the location was walking distance from so much and the metro. I'd hapily stay here again, was great value for money.
Nice and quiet too.

It was better than expected, given the reviews I'd read. The staff were helpful, friendly and interesting- ended up getting a lecture on the development of European languages from the front desk guy, he was printing me out directions and maps every time I asked him a question about anything.
The rooms were fine. We had a twin and a double room, it was as expected. Nothing special. Couldn't figure out how to get the TV to work, but I bet if I asked the front desk guy, he'd have helped... probably would have printed out instructions for me!
Didn't have breakfast there, as there's a bunch of places right outside the door- everything from a proper french bakery across the street (which serves take out coffee) to a McDonald's and Burger King right around the corner.

very disapointing hotel, especially for its price tag! it might look like an authentic Parisian hotel from the outside but the inside dates as far back as the middle ages! although the staff is very nice and helpful, everything else is borderline a disaster! the room are very old!! furniture, bathroom, shower, tables, etc.
The hot water takes a minimum of 30 min to work (and it barely does).
TV is a 10 inch screen!

Hotel was in good district

Close to restaurants, shopping, very busy love to the area, and it was very safe. There was also a McDonald's close, which we ate breakfast every morning for six euros, versus 40. The hotel staff were very helpful and fluent in English which meant a lot.

Friends Reunion in Paris

This hotel was very convenient to transportation to get around the city. It was the convenience that made me happy with our stay. However, the beds were extremely uncomfortable, the elevator didn't work when we were there and had to climb 6 flights of stairs with luggage and daily, and you could hear everything outside the window. Not a quiet neighborhood. The staff was extremely friendly though. Would stay here again.

The hotel is located near a Metro Station that has multiple lines, so it very handy for getting around Paris.

It was a hotel that I didn't arrive with high expectations, but was very impressed with what we had. For what it was and what we paid it was exception value for money.

We made a boo boo with the booking and instead of kicking us out they did everything to accommodate us in our same room for the extra day.

The hotel is in a lively but friendly part of town, there's loads of cafe's, restaurants & bars around the area also plenty of shops too. The local metro has great connections too. The hotel itself is pleasant the room was a little outdated and plain but we were out all day & just slept in the room which didn't really bother us as the bed was comfy enough so we got a great nights sleep. The staff on reception were always around to help and provide information. Would definitely stay there again.

Choose somewhere else if you plan to stay long

It was just OK. It is in need of updating: new beds, curtains, carpet...etc. It's decor is from the 70's and the bed was hideously uncomfortable. We ordered a room with two beds and only got one. It is Paris, but this hotel was not comfortable at all~

Firstly, I didn't choose the hotel (chosen by organiser of the group) and would have preferred 4*. The difference was clear. The hotel was very tatty: marked walls in bedroom, upholstery on corner of bed base was worn off completely, chair joints had parted, shower room tiled badly grouted, etc. The first room I was given was stifling; the window opening into an internal light tube. Two narrow single beds were pushed together and very uncomfortable - I would turn over in the night and put my arm across the very hard mattress piping. I hardly slept. I changed the following day to a front room - noisy when window was open but good double glazing. The double bed was much more comfortable. The booking confirmation stated that there would be a balcony - there are no balconies at all just a decorative balustrade across the longer than usual windows.

But it was very central - just a few minutes walk to the Place de la Republic and its metro station with five lines passing through. Pleasant and helpful reception staff but the breakfast (optional) offering isn't worth E12. At the patisserie a few minutes walk away I had cafe Americano and a croissant for E2.80. Even if more items were added it would be difficult to spend E12. Takeaway coffee and a croissant was E1.90.

I booked and prepaid the hotel room at the rate of 107,38€ via hotels.com.
when I arrived at the hotel, the receptionist old me they wrongly inputted 107,30€ on my credit card, and they request that I pay the missing 0.08€ at check-out!
I mentioned that for 0.08€ they could make a commercial gesture, and they looked at me as if I was a thief!!! Same experience in the morning when I add to pay the extra 0.08€.
Really cheap people...

A good price close to Metro lines

Hotel Meslay Republique was a nice hotel with a friendly, helpful staff. The hotel is not lavish but comfortable. The room was about average size for a Paris hotel room, but the furniture was very smartly chosen to be conservative on size so that the room did not feel unduly crowded. An in-room safe, small refrigerator, hair dryer, HD cable TV, The bathroom was adequate with a slightly smaller than average bathtub to fit the space. This was still OK for an adult to bathe without problems. The hotel sits just next to the Place de la Republique so has easy access (1-2 minute walk) to Metro lines. The street and the hotel were both fairly quiet, even on New Year's eve.

The hotel is not as nice as pictured online. When we arrived, the cabdriver kept pointing to it and we didn't recognize it! The area, in particular the plaza, is crawling with seedy characters at night. We searched for a place to eat breakfast in the neighborhood and although there are plenty of restaurants, we found nothing more substantial than coffee and rolls, so we ended up paying the hotel 24 Euros a day for breakfast. The hotel breakfast room attendants were very accomodating. The front desk was not very helpful. The day we arrived, the lady on duty couldn't even tell us where the closest Metro entrance was! She claimed she never took the Metro. The room was very dated, in dire need of remodeling. Space was at a premium--we couldn't hardly open two small suitcases at once. There was only one chair, aside from the desk chair; so a couple couldn't sit and relax. The shower was minute. I couldn't turn around without burning myself on the hot water pipe and I'm an average-sized woman. The free WiFi was very nice. Had no problems with connection. I guess we didn't pay attention during booking; but there is NO air conditioning! In mid September, we had some hot evenings. The noise outside did not bother us when the windows were closed.

Not Up to Expectations, Fair Hotel

We booked our room for 7 nights specifically at this hotel because the hotel.com website said this room had a balcony and ceiling fan (since there is no air conditioning here we thought that was important). We got neither upon checking in, went to front desk to get our room switched, and were told they had no other rooms available even though we booked almost three months in advance, front desk staff avoided issue after that. Sent an email to hotel.com requesting their intervention, never received any response. Rooms are minimlly furnished, bed mattress was in poor condition. Advertised as being in Marais neighborhood, but this is in out-skirts of town.

We stayed at this hotel for one night prior to returning home the next day. Our room was comfortable and the service of the desk staff excellent. We enjoyed exploring the Marais district in the afternoon and there were plenty of restaurants in the area to choose for dinner. Our breakfast the next morning was not as generous and more expensive than we experienced in 2 star hotels. The coffee was tepid at best. We chose the prepaid taxi trip to the airport and arrived as promised but only after an hour's scenic tour of rush hour Paris to pick up others followed by 15 terrifying minutes on the freeway. I would not recommend the prepaid taxi. I would stay at this hotel again.

The hotel is staffed by friendly and helpful personnel. The room, although small, was clean and adequate for our 5 day stay. We heard no noise from other guests, although sometimes outside noise could be heard when our window was open; there is no air conditioning or fan. There's a fridge, but no kettle, so if you want a cup of tea/coffee, you have to go out to the cafe across the street. I'd suggest taking a travel kettle! The metro station is about 50 metres away and at 1.70 Euros is a great way to get around. It is only a 20 minute walk to Notre Dame and the Seine River. I would definitely stay here again.

We stayed for 1 night before heading to the airport. The room was comfortable enough, and less cramped than many. The neighborhood is less touristy, which meant less foot traffic at night, although Republic square very near by bustles during the day. The service at the front desk was sullen and grudging. WiFi codes were doled out silently--note that although it's \"free,\" you need to obtain one code per device from the desk, and the codes expire after 5 hours--so you're required to repeat your supplication to the unhelpful staff twice or more per day, and good luck getting codes for both your phone and tablet.

The best thing this place has going for it is the location. Lots of cute restaurants and bars, a Monoprix, and two metro stations. However, it had a few issues. Our room was TINY (although the bathroom was a decent size, considering.) there was a lot of noise from the alley we were facing, and there didn't seem to be any temp control (thank goodness we were there in early September when we didn't really need it,) the staff was mostly friendly, though there was one lady who worked mornings who was more interested in her phone conversations than helping us out (seriously, she was ALWAYS on the phone!) I would recommend this to someone looking for a good location and who doesn't plan on spending much time in their room. However, I'll probably give another place a shot if I find myself in Paris again.

3 star but 5 star for location

Stayed for 7 nights. Good hotel for its 3 star category. The best thing going for this hotel is its location. It's close to almost everything - metro with 5 lines, grocery, shops, patisserie for breakfast croissants. The lady at the desk is a bit on the unfriendly side but the older gentlemen who are usually there in the evenings make up for her attitude.

They also have a car service (Mokrane) who took us to thé airport. Reasonable flat fée.

Thé hôtel does not hâve airconditoning so it can be à bit stuffy on a warm night but You can open the windows for a breeze.

The room was small, but ok. There is no kettle, no coffee, no tea and milk in room. Bathroom was not comfortable, no sample size shower gel, shampoo and condition at all. One big bottle of shampoo by the sink for use. A new sample size soap bar for the first day provided. The hotel service was below standard. Location of the hotel was close to Metro.

Oldish style hotel good for central Paris

Not a particularly flash hotel but functional and handy for central Paris. Staff were friendly and helpful and room service was good. Breakfast only taken on one day and was fine if you took advantage of all that was available. If you only wanted a coffee and croissant then E12 is a bit steep and you would be better going to one of the nearby cafes of which there are several. During our stay there were a series of late night concerts going on in La Place de La Republique nearby so noise was a problem late at night but probably true of anywhere in central Paris.

A perfectly good hotel on a quiet street close to the Republique metro station and a pleasant 25 minute walk from the Pompidou Centre. Our room had a small balcony. The bathroom was fine and the room provided all the usual hotel requirements. I had a bike and was allowed to leave it in the tiny courtyard.

We really liked the location of this hotel. Easy access to the Metro and the rooms were very clean. The staff was friendly and the breakfast was a great start to the day. My only complaint would be that there is no air conditioning and we had to open the windows at night to stay cool. It was noisy outside and we had difficulty sleeping.

This hotel seems to be in a time warp - late 70s early 80s - it would benefit from an update - it is a great location near Place de la Republique - handy for the metro and within good walking distance of Notre Dame and other central attractions - surrounded by a good selection and variety of eating and drinking options - the staff seemed half asleep much of the time (maybe since the 1980s...) - amenities in the hotel are functional but there's nothing exciting or welcoming about it - everything is ok, but Paris merits better.

This hotel was located in a convenient spot, but was honestly nothing special. It was far out from all the attractions, so if your main reason is to be a tourist this may not be the best choice. If you don't mind the subway system you could make it work.

Homey little place

Great little hotel bordering the Marais area close to everything and close to Republique metro. Lots of cafés and Meslat street is full of shoe shops! I walked everywhere with no problem. Rooms are a little dated but clean and comfortable. Staff was amazing and went above and beyond. I did not partake in breakfast but it is available. Great find.

Hotel was handy to the subway but not an ideal area. Lot's of homeless people asking you for money with a cigarette in one hand a beer in the other! The staff were generally pleasant although the big lady at reception on our last day was rude and unhelpful and would be better served away from the guests. The single beds are the smallest I have encountered. Breakfast was not included in the room rate which is unusual and this was only explained at check-out, you would achieve far better value buying you breakfast away from the hotel as there is no shortage of food options.

If your looking for Mediocre this is the place.

I am not sure how the other rooms are. But the room we were given 103 was one of the ugliest hotel rooms I have ever seen. The walls looked like they were painted in 1940's and never touched again. The blanket was a bright orange. The furniture had seen better days. The carpet looked like it wasn't vacuumed regularly. If it was a cheap deal I would overlook all those things but with the price I paid I expected better. The only redeeming thing was the internet worked and the reception staff were pleasant except the woman. The location is strategic with the metro just two minutes away. You can get to the Eiffel Tower in 15 minutes via the metro. If you don't mind bad decor, and mediocre experience for a high cost then look no further.

Good location near Republic metro stop. Plenty of reasonable restaurants nearby.
We walked to the Louvre and Latin Quarter and Montmartre. Long walk but safe and easy.
We spent 4 nights at Hotel Meslayand will stay there again.
The front desk staff were excellent and helpful.

Good hotel, good location

I chose this hotel because it's just a few stops on the Metro from Gard du Nord. Le Marais is a good location, there are some lovely cobbled streets in the area and interesting shops off the main drag. There is a large supermarket near the hotel. The hotel itself is well-maintained, the room was a good size and the staff were friendly and welcoming. It was a comfortable and convenient place to stay. On the down-side, the walls were quite thin. Each night I heard a woman talking, presumably on the phone as her's was the only voice I could hear. Could also hear doors opening and closing. Also note, there is no tea/coffee in room, no fridge and no iron/board. Not a big deal for a short stay.

I would have preferred to have coffee maker in room, but I was ok with McDonald's right around the corner. I bathroom was much bigger than I even imagined....very nice! Beds were comfortable. We even had a little balcony, a plus!! The hotel is old which I actually preferred to stay in, since I love all the old architecture in Paris, not the new stuff. 10 minute (or less) metro ride to the Louvre, Ile de la Cite (Notre Dame), and more. Plus Free Wifi!!!!

Yes, the room was small and older, but this is Paris. How much time will you really be spending in the room? Being in The Marais and so close to everything was really nice. The staff was nice as well.

Nice small hotel in great location

We had a great stay at the Hotel Meslay Republique. The rooms are small but comfortable, and the staff was helpful in arranging airport transportation and information about tours. The location just off of the Place de Republique is also fantastic - one block from the Metro (with five lines), and very close to lots of restaurants and shopping. The square is also a great place to people watch.

Convenient location 3 minues from the Metro.

Friendly welcoming staff, comfortable rooms and an excellent selection for Continental Breakfast.
We were celebrating a birthday - a familily group of 11 from teenagers to septagenarians occupying 6 rooms. Everybody was very happy with the choice of hotel.

So close to the Metro and easily accessible to all the city highlights! The hotel was great and extremely clean. I even liked the idea of leaving the key at the front desk whenever we left…no chance at all to lose it :) I would definitely recommend this hotel to friends & family in the future.

Convenient Location Near Metro

The Republique Metro station is nearby and allows for easy access to much of the city. The front desk staff were very helpful confirming restaurant reservations and arranging for the airport shuttle. The room on the back of the building had no view but was very quiet at night.
