Derby

The hotel is close to Derby Train Station and it’s an easy walk into Derby City Centre as well.
Only downside was the lift was out off order and it was my wife staying and she has health problems which made it a bit hard fir her to get to her room but apart from that she said she will use the Hitel again.

The lifts were out of service. And after booking a suite initially the whirlpool bath wasn’t working either (but luckily they got this fixed before check in!)
The reception was unattended for a majority of the time so when we ordered food there was nobody to direct the driver. When we requested towels there weren’t enough staff so we had to go down to reception.
The towels - several holes and look like they’ve had them for several years.
The bed - four poster which looks nice, however it will creak and it super noisy. Breathe a little heavy and it’s creaking.
Overall, would not go back.

Excellent value for money for the price i paid (£35) for an overnight stay. As i needed to catch an early train from derby the next day.the bathroom had a bath and a seperate shower,with plenty of room.the main bedroom was very large with plenty of storage space, as well as having fitted wardrobes as well.

I have read some reviews before booking and hoped I will be a lucky one. It is a 4 start hotel right?I sadly have to confirm that the cleanliness was the worse. Our hotel room furniture was so dusty and the bathroom was dirty, probably not cleaned at all after the previous quest. I went to ask for some wipes so I could clean it myself and feel like it is really clean. The receptionist was probably used to this request as she didn't really say anything, just handed me the wipes. I wish I took some pics of the bathroom too but realised after cleaning it. Having shower was chalanging as there was hardly any water coming out of the shower head and the temperature was changing on its own. I don't mind old fashioned places but I do care about places being clean.

A very pleasant stay, although some of the decor is in need of a refresh. Room was a decent size which you don’t often find these days without having to pay extra. Bed was really comfy and fan was welcome however couldn’t locate the hair dryer, not sure if this was me not looking in the right place or there wasn’t one provided, I would have expected a room with an iron & ironing board would have a hair dryer, would definitely stay again

It's location next to the rail station was excellent. The hotel was clean and tidy as well. I was disappointed that I was awoken at 9am with two maintenance men wanting to repair a broken window in the room. I feel once you had let a room to a customer this was not satisfactory as that was well before check out time, and as I say I was still asleep.

Excellent for the Football Tourists!

Excellent value-for-money stay, right at centre of town. For short stayers like us, I doubt one can find another more convenient place to visit Derby, watch football at Pride Park, and take in the wonderful town! Right next to the new and clean Derby Rail Station!

Beware the 'Cosy Double'

Disappointed that our 'double room' is not the double you would expect. The bed is probably a 3/4 double and one side is against the wall. Apparently there are several rooms like this described as a 'Cosy Double'. It's wrong this isn't made clear on booking and also wrong when I made this point to Reception I was given the brush off.

Managed a proper night sleep here :-)

This was a good hotel with a good room. Best hotel room sleep for a while, good TV , bathroom etc etc.

Note that parking outside on road is free from 6pm - 8am otherwise use their car park for a hefty £8. Also breakfast paid for in advance was around £10 or a hefty £15 on the day ! I would be happy to stay here again.

Lovely grand old hotel - tastefully furnished and helpful staff. Room was spacious and fully equipped - very comfortable. Could not fault it - and very reasonable rates. Me and our dog loved access to the lovely garden - specially magical all lit up at night. Can’t wait to stay again.

Midland Hotel for Christmas

We had a lovely stay. The staff could not have been more welcoming and helpful, the room was delightful and the food we had (1 dinner and 2 breakfasts) was superb. If you read this and think we’re easily pleased, we’ve stopped at the Fairmont Beijing and Radisson New York in recent times and this was equally as enjoyable. Can recommend. Thank you.

In its day this was probably a very grand hotel however it is now looking a bit tired and needs bringing up to date. The shower was poor there was no facility for phone charging (usb) in the room, the rooms weren't heated very well, breakfast at £15 each was not good value, basically they need to look what Premier inn etc offer for £50

Overall a lovely hotel. Its clean and has everything you need. And the room is a good size. Only problem was with check in, where there was alot of confusion. Friends of ours being checked into our booked rooms when they had their own booked. A couple of the rooms were also allocated as city rooms, which are nowhere near big enough for 2 adults. Even thoigh we had booked classic doubles. But they did swap the rooms for us anyway. Just a bit of a mess but they girl on reception sorted it and so all was fine. Would stay here again as it is a lovely hotel :-)

Across the road from the train station which was really handy, room was clean and had everything needed (hairdryder tea/coffee facilities shower gel etc). Shower was a bit temperamental and very hard to get temperature right.
Didn't use restaurant but attended a xmas party and the meal was really good.
Only one person checking people out which resulted in a queue.

The location is good for meetings being next to the station with a couple of good curry houses very close but the £8 parking charge is a bit much for overnight guests when it's free at the Holiday Inn Express the other side of the railway and free on the road between 6pm and 8am. Bar and reception staff friendly.

Convenient location

The hotel was pleasant, the room clean and comfortable. The staff we met were very helpful though on checking out, more staff were needed to avoid the growing queue at 11am. I would have appreciated knowing there was a charge for car parking With my booking, as many other Derby hotel websites already do. The location of the hotel is convenient for the city centre and for us it was a safe walk there and back late on the Saturday night.

We choose this hotel as it looked good from the photos and was central for spending a weekend in Derby. Rooms were nice enough as was location. However if you want a decent nights sleep, maybe look elsewhere. Noise from our neighbors in the corridor and adjoining room at 3am and constant road noise was disappointing for us especially as this is a big hotel and wasn’t exactly full!

In need of some renovation but, overall, good.

Beds clean and comfortable but the double bed was up against a wall. The room and duvet were too warm for early October. Amenities were good. Nice bathroom. Hotel carpets and furniture were in reasonable condition. Food was excellent but not enough bar staff for what was a full hotel.
The fabric of the building needs renovation. Old window frames causing mould build up which transferred to the net curtains. We were placed on the top floor and the lift only went up to the first floor in the part of the hotel that we were in so access to the room was via stairs which was difficult for older people such as myself.
Staff were polite and friendly. Overall the stay had some problems but the staff and the food made it an enjoyable weekend overall.

Location, Location, Location

We are regular visitors to Derby and find that this hotel fits exactly what we need when we are there. We never drive when we are in town so the proximity to rail and taxi service can’t be beat. It is a short walk to the centre of town and we have a favourite walk along the Derwent River to Darley’s and back that we do virtually every day that we’re in town.

Feedback on The Hallmark Hotel Derby

Room was clean. Bed too small for a couple.
Windows had mould and rotten in some parts.
When out having a meal with friends on the Saturday night I got a call from hotel reception asking if I would return and move my car as new guests needed a parking space. I informed the receptionist No, and gently reminded her we had paid for parking for the duration of our stay....needless to say this put a dampner on our night.
That will be our 3rd stay at the hotel,will seriously think twice before I stay there again.

Disappointed on arrival but overall very comfy

Booked through Expedia who had overbooked the suites . Was given choice to downgrade room or change hotel. Was staying in this hotel for a reason and did not want to move hotel but disappointed did not get to stay in room that we had booked. Not hotel staff fault but after travelling 4hrs to get there was very disappointed. Nevertheless bed very comfy and complimentary drinks given for the room mess up.

Lovely hotel. Very clean, comfy and staff friendly. A few little things my room had a funny patch on the ceiling from a leak or something, just didn't look nice. My window was open when I arrived so my room was freezing! Air trapped in pipes, when running the hot tap it spluttered a lot and shower temperature was harder to control then I'd of liked. Last little thing, ordered a drink at the bar to take up to my room. Was offered a double which I accepted however it was put into a tiny glass so was extremely strong as there wasnt much room for the mixed. Also the lemonade came out of an open plastic bottle, once I'd got into my room I realised this was completely flat, so didn't tazt3 good at all. As I was the furthest room for the bar I couldn't be bothered to go back.

Stayed in room 220. Bathroom could have been cleaned a little better (soap scum on bath & extractor fan wasn't the cleanest) other than that the room was tidy & the maid was pleasant.

Be aware that parking charges apply when staying.

This hotel has 2 sites one each side of the road-Hallmark Inn and Hallmark Hotel. We were assigned an incorrect room at the wrong site, which was resolved once I went back to reception to complain. At the correct site they had forgotten to put in the extra bed, but did sort it out for us as quickly as possible. If you stay at the Inn and book breakfast you will be required to eat across the road at the Hotel site.
They charge £8 to park on site (parking is available at both sites), which is not disclosed on Hotels.com site and should be. Parking is close to the train station and accommodation is close to the shopping centre. I consider the Executive room a Superior, not Executive, though it was large, comfortable and clean. Breakfast was self service and very good. The hotel staff member seemed to be unaware of our booking which resulted in confusion and a poor check in experience, though an apology was offered.

Old building in need or refurbishment.

This is an old hotel, in need of refurbishment. No air con, sash wooden windows in much need of replacement. Elevator does NOT go to top floor where my room was. Initially offered a very small 4.6 wide double in poky dark room. I agreed to pay £10 more for larger with two singles. Bigger room but no lift.
Breakfast seems to be dominated by not enough tables, people had to wait. Quality of food was average. Nothing special or to complain about - average. No fridge in room. Tea & Coffee yes.

Convenient for the Station

I selected this hotel as it was convenient for Derby station and it could not be much closer! I stayed in a standard double room which was satisfactory for a short stay. I also enjoyed the buffet breakfast – there was not a vast selection of items but it was all quite tasty. The hotel is about a ten minute walk from the city centre so the surrounding area is not too noisy. There were various functions at the hotel during the evening but they did not disturb my stay.
But sadly, on my first night I was awoken by a loud constant sound which at first I took to be some heavy snoring in an adjacent room. I could not go back to sleep and about 0300 I went to the bathroom and the sound appeared to be mechanical noise coming from the ceiling area. I called the Night Porter who attended promptly but he could not trace the cause of the noise. He tried flushing the toilet then offered me a change of room. When he returned to help me move room the noise had stopped so I stayed put but my sleep had been ruined. I reported the matter to reception in the morning and was surprised not to be given at least a partial refund.

After being out all aftetnoon my wife and i returned to the hotel sat down in the bar having a drink 15 minutes later (730pm ish) we were inundated with 40 ish leeds united football supporters , singing, swearing and generally making a nuisance. I
Was also disapointed no member of staff tried to eject these non resident peopme. My wife being of asian birth also endured racial ans sexist remarks. I reported this to reception but heard nothing. No pice were called and I was completely disgusted with the Hallmark management .

This hotel was dirty everywhere! The hallways, the stairs, the floors in the room were stained! Misrepresentation of the room booked. We booked a double and on arrival were told we have booked 3/4 of a double bed and to have a double bed we need to upgrade which meant charging us more money. Then website states there are car parking facilities but failed to mention charges were applicable! Just a horrible unfriendly hotel!

Very close proximity to railway station. W.ell appointed bedrooms, very spacious and with good furniture. Separate bath and shower, although the shower was a little disappointing, small and not much water pressure. Beautifully-restored historic railway hotel, with friendly staff and good food, very handy for both the railway station and Derby College. Quick bus to the city centre if you don't want to walk. Rather than have an anonymous multinational beer on the bar, they had 'The Usual', brewed 300 yards away in the Brunswick Brewery.

Ok but needs improving

We got a bargain bed and breakfast price. The breakfast was very good. However our room had drafts from the window, the wardrobe was too small for 1 person let alone 2 and the bathroom radiator and extractor fan did not work. The bedroom ceiling is in need of repair.

I’ve stayed here before and my room was fine, so maybe I should have requested a change of room.
