Rooms are very very dated and ours smelt nasty! No net curtains all way round bay window and over looked a roundabout. No rubber on shower screen so water went all over the bathroom. Definitely not 4 star!
Breakfast was good & meet and greet member of staff very jolly.
Pool looked good too but didn’t use.

This used to be one of the top hotels in the area. Now it's in desperate need of a refurb. All the staff were great. I remember coming here in the early 90's and it's not seen a lick of paint since. Don't get me wrong for £50 for the night being able to use the pool hot tub and sauna it's good value. Would love to see a company take it over and bring it back to it's former glory. Bed was very comfortable and hot water. We didn't eat so cannot comment on the food

We weren't advised there was a pool, so we didn't get to use it. Staff were all lovely, especially receptionist who booked us in.
But the second lift being out of order meant we had to wait for the lift when checking out.
There was a chair in our room [118] that needed joints gluing and could have collapsed, and somewhere in the bathroom is leaking damp, resulting in a few harmless fruit flies and damagedbath panel and skirting.

Hotel very old fashioned and the rooms need a total refurb. Bathroom sink had no plug and the shower was just a hand held shower and not at all powerful. Drain stank in bathroom sink, like it had not been used for a very long time. Having said that, the room was clean, staff were very friendly and helpful and it has a nice bar area. Modernising the rooms would be fab although sadly mine was overlooking a motorway / dual carriageway, and was freezing and loud! It did the job for what we needed but def room for improvement if the bedrooms are meant to be 4 star

When we arrived the room was very clean , but there was little flies flying round the room, we did report this , don’t no if Anyone went to the room as when we came back from having a walk they appeared again. Also when resting a dog was barking constantly for 2 hours, they must of gone out for a bit, other then that a lovely stay , been many time always loved this hotel , just a few things that let it down this stay. The staff was also very friendly

We had a pleasant 1 night stay. Check in was made effortless and welcoming by the young lady on reception (sorry I didn’t catch your name but it was Saturday 7th afternoon).

We used the gym and pool which had been recently refurbished and were great.
There seems to be other renovations taking place which the hotel could benefit from.

Utterly dreadful. No swimming pool, no lift, room was pure horrid 1970’s styling, threadbare carpet, bath panel was practically eaten away and knarled. The door on the bathroom once white is now yellow from a lifetime of paint abuse. Complaint raised at reception not interested and paid 125 for one night - Dreadful avoid

The amenities advertised were not available, i.e. the pool and hot tub. These had been the deciding factors in choosing this hotel. No compensation was made more than a dry apology. Staff expressed themselves to be haggard. We pre-ordered a set menu and then were told we would have to pay 1 GBP more - weird. The next day we were told that this had been magnanimously waived (sic) No drinks were included in the meal. Drinks both at table and at the bar were unnecessarily pricey. Beer was served in a can... we had to ask for a glass... three times. Odd. Breakfast was good. The rooms and beds were old but comfortable. The bathroom could use a deep clean and the drains cleaned. Plumbing issue I think.

The pool was closed for renovations and I was informed upon arrival that it would likely be closed for 2-3 months (be warned). The changing rooms and sauna and steam room area needs a good deep clean.

We booked a 'suite' room as a little treat to ourselves for our wedding anniversary. The room was dirty and in need of a serious clean. There were stains on the headboard (you can guess which type!!) dirty marks all along the edges of the bath and sink area. To top it off the plug in the bath didn't even fit the plughole!! So not possible at all to have a relaxing soak.

This hotel used to be very good but has gone downhill in recent times and unless it gets a complete renovation I would avoid.

The only positive was the friendliness of the staff who apologized unreservedly for the issues when mentioned to them.

Was notified that the pool was shut after making the booking, a small thing at that point. Bed was comfortable, room was clean and cannot fault them. However, always worrying when you have a balcony door which has a notice on it saying the door is damaged and must remain locked. The shower did not work - the knob to turn the water on would not budge, it was as if it had been superglued! I could adjust the temperature on the other dial, but couldnt get any water out, so resorted to a bath. First world problem, but not exactly what you would expect. This was a budget price, but others were the same price and would no doubt have a working shower.

It's a nice hotel, friendly staff, and we had a nice big family room between the 2 of us, as my girlfriend hates my snoring, so it was ideal as it was split into 2 rooms, but it could do with some renovation to bring it into the modern era.

Mainly double glazing, our room was freezing due to the big windows and balcony doors. It did come with 2 heaters, one in each room, but the choices were either to sleep with it being really humid and hot or be cold.

I also felt the breakfast buffet was overpriced for what it was; it was nice, but nothing to write home about. About the same kind of breakfast buffet you would receive at a Travelodge or Premier Inn, but a higher price.

The hotel was very clean and the staff were mostly very helpful but a member of staff could not tell us where the stairs to the underground carpark was and when I asked for oat milk for my coffee, if never arrived. I also found that the breakfast was very greasy. Our room was lovely but I found that the mattress was a little lumpy. We would probably stay again but wouldn’t pay extra for the breakfast.

Pool found to be out of use after booking on hotels.com and looking on hotel website 3 days after booking which was very disappointing as would of gone for a morning swim with my daughter, this was not mentioned on booking details on hotels.com site at all.

Check in was average experience and was told no food or bar after 10pm which was fine but not great for late arrivals as we were

Reception is pleasent area but once you get up to room corridors via lift with worn carpet and tatty wallpaper in a frame to decorate it you really find the place really does need a refit.

Although clean all areas look very dated (i would say 90s) and in need of re decoration.

Room (203) needs new shower, bath panel dated tiling carpet not great and door stop missing rubber end dangerous fitted to bathpanel right where you step out my daughter cut her foot on it (reported to reception)

Overall it was fine for a nights stay and would of stayed longer to use the pool but we left and headed back to kent after a trip to Alton Towers the day of stay

Room rate was cheap maybe to refect the closed pool area which i was unaware of as mentioned at time of booking.

This is meant to be a Best western signature hotel but having stayed at the Folkstone hotel recently your Derby property is way below standard sadly.

My wife & I have just enjoyed a very nice stay at Mickleover Hotel. The room was very clean & spacious. The bed were extremely comfortable, just like being at home. All of the Staff we encountered were very professional & extremely helpful & pleasant. I thought the pressure on the shower wasn't very good and the mastic around the shower controls needs renewing otherwise there may be water ingress which may be more expensive to fix. Also the trouser press in the room did not work but there was an iron & ironing board in the room. Wevery much look forward to staying at this hotel again.

Billed as one of BWs finest, this hotel falls short. Dated bedrooms, worn fittings and windows that sound open when closed add to the disappointment.
On this occasion the door system was broken which meant the staff had to open the door each time you wanted to get into the room. I must say, they did this faultlessly though and it didn’t impact the stay.

Otherwise, everything was brilliant. We really enjoyed our stay.

Rooms were quite big, but very dated. Bathroom was clean but mold on the silicone. Plush towels. The spa pool was nice but all the other areas such as the shower, changing areas etc were quite disgusting. The lift floors had carpet which were nasty; and clumps of hair in one lift that was there for hours. Ample car parking. The staff were really nice and helpful. The breakfast was decent, small choices eg one type of cheese, 2 types of mini pastries, cooked breakfast was good, standard small breakfast but good. All in all, did the job for a one night stay on the way back from Alton Towers. For £60 I can’t complain except for a couple of grubby things mentioned in the review; just don’t expect much of the spa!

Check in time 15:00. Got to the location earlier than planned. Around 14:00. Asked if we could check in early, uninterested staff and unhelpful. Was willing to pay to check in early. No option given just repeatedly told room isn't ready. Checked in at 15:00.To say the room was disappointing is an understatement. Booked a suite, just looked like a standard family room. Outdated, carpet is a safety hazard big bump in the middle that moves as you walk around. Stains on the carpet, stains on the sofa. Damp stains on the ceiling and walls. Bathroom wasn't much better, as soon as you open the door mouldy dampy smell. After the whole check in expedition, the staff and the room itself, i didn't even want to go to reception to request another room. I highly doubt any other room would've been better. Booked in for 2 nights, 1st night we ended up going and staying with family for the night as we didn't want to spend the night in the hotel. Came back in the morning and spent the day there and checked out in the evening. Trip had to be cut short. Waste of money.

Entrance was lovely. Greeted with a friendly receptionist and the kids got a gift at reception. Room was an executive room on the top floor. Was expecting higher quality. Room smelt heavily of damp, carpet had a big lump in it that was a bit of a trip hazard, and the room generally needed a bit of TLC, as did all the communal areas of the hotel. Wallpaper and paint peeling, carpets worn. Swimming pool was nice but again needed a bit of TLC and was quite a cold temperature. All staff however were lovely and friendly and polite and the beds were very comfy and the room was lovely and spacious. Just all needs an update!

Staff were lovely and welcoming. The entrance was nice. We had the Executive room, with a king-size bed that had a dip on one side and two single beds, which the children were happy with. The beds were clean. We loved the skylights. The carpet was stained and a bit sticky, and some of the chairs were stained.

We had breakfast; I had a full English, which was of basic quality. The chairs were dirty in the dining room. The children preferred the continental breakfast.

If it weren't for the floor needing a good clean and the chairs, it would have been a nice room. Oh, and the kettle wasn't clean, nor were the cups, so we had no tea.

It was a lovely touch to include a kids' activity pack and chocolate.

Didnt have time for pool, but it looked nice.

We do really enjoy staying at this hotel when we visit alton Towers. The beds are so comfy, and the hotel its self is lovely. Reception staff are particularly friendly and welcoming. The only negative is that its a bit dated and needs a revamping. The carpets in particular are awful, some very stained amd dated. The paintwork needs a little maintenance too, the changing facilities for the pool are not that great. But for a nice one night stay it does us perfectly.

Lovely overnight stay, felt like a real treat.

Pros: Stunning reception area, feels really posh, plenty of parking space, sufficient disabled parking, if you put your number plate in at reception there's no parking charge, bathroom very nice, room very clean, room has a balcony which is nice just to stand out with a coffee and get some air (even if the view is a busy road) , very quiet so had a good sleep, there was some kind of free Starbucks offer in the reception area but I didn't know how it worked and we were in a rush - absolutely caught my eye, will investigate if we go back, grassy area around the building for dog walking

Cons: Rooms could do with a bit of an update, cheapest room is fairly small (especially with a dog), the balcony door was so stiff we couldn't figure out if it had been permanently sealed off until we were leaving and gave it a final try (needs oil or a sign with instructions maybe)

But the patio doors to the balcony were labelled out of order and a breeze could be felt through the seal. When raised with reception they were brilliant, checked other rooms and moved us to one which didnt have the sign on the door. The staff were lovely and did everything they could to accommodate us. We had dinner there and this was really good.

Freezing cold room and the air con / heater didn’t work so not nice really. Poorly sealed doors and no sound proofing so banging doors, hear people talking next door, other TVs, noisy road outside. Only do room service when they can be mothers, orderded it, phones 20 minutes later and told ‘oh sorry no room service tonight’. Dirty chairs at breakfast but food was OK.

Lovely stay for a special occassion

We had a lovely stay thank you, i brought my daughter and son for a birthday treat for my saughters birthday, the receptionist was very lovely and polite. We enjoyed the use of the leisure facilities and had a lovely meal followed by a hot chocolate in the bar. Our room was nice and clean with all the aminities we needed.

Never Again

The whole hotel is dirty, I don't know how this is a 4-star hotel and has 8 stars.
The room was dirty, and the central heating did not work. The AC/heater was so dry that the nose, throat, and mouth were dry- couldn't sleep. Then, the TV did not work, the iron was leaking, and the whole dress/bed was a pool of water. Housekeeping entered the room without knocking. There were no slippers for dirty rooms. When raised, there were no rooms to change to, or we could downgrade you and partially refund you. When argued, were then changed to another room, which was partly better. then in the end when asked about what is the situation update. nobody had the answer at checkout.
ruined the whole trip. never again
