Negatives that outweigh significantly - I needed a room with a 24 hour pool and even called should of time to make sure pool room was open but pool was freezing and hottub was just warm none of the kids that stayed from other rooms swam either we were very disappointed, i also chose a room with a fireplace and couldn’t use it at all the knob was broken and i guess maintenance doesn’t operate on the weekends, our showers were also lukewarm which was frustrating as the pool was already freezing maybe the water heater went out? unsure but the only reason this got any stars at all was because the staff that was there were at least nice and tried to be helpful as this stuff isn’t able to be fixed by regular staff

I want to start by saying the staff were absolutely wonderful. Every employee I interacted with was friendly, helpful, and professional, which made this experience especially disappointing because the issues with the room were impossible to overlook.

Unfortunately, the cleanliness and maintenance of the room were extremely poor. The bathroom door would not close at all because the tile was broken and uneven, causing the door to lean. Around the outside of the shower and on the ceiling there was significant black discoloration, which appeared to be mold (though I can’t say for certain). Regardless of what it was, it was alarming and made the bathroom feel unsanitary and uncomfortable to use.

These are not minor cosmetic issues—they are basic cleanliness and safety concerns that should never be present in a hotel room. Given the condition of the bathroom, it was difficult to feel relaxed or confident about the overall cleanliness of the room.

On a positive note, the breakfast was good and well-prepared, which I appreciated

Front desk not willing to address disturbances

The hotel in general was very nice with large sized room and good breakfast. Unfortunately there were a couple families there with out of control little kids under 5, unsupervised, screaming and running up and down the hallways throwing things at our doors- this went on for a couple hours and after 10pm. I reported it to the front desk thinking they would address it, but it contined on. This situation was one of the worst experiences in a hotel, where it was uncomfotable in our room and down in the breakfast area with kids running wild. I would not stay in a hotel like this again if front desk are not willing to address disturbances that impact over half of your hotel guests.

I didn't like that the room I was initially put in was incorrect, Expedia blamed hotel and hotel blamed Expedia, and was told by hotel that there was nothing they could do because 3rd party made the reservation. I was unable to get in contact with the hotel manager during my entire stay. On the second day of my stay I had to contact IGH directly. IGH helped get the room corrected to a room with the jetted tub but the jetted tub was not functional due to an electrical issue. The hot tub in the pool area was not functioning properly either and was colder than the pool. There was trash on the second floor hallway the first night and rather than disposing of it I found it moved to the bottom of the staircase where it still was just left out and not disposed of. I went to get a snack from the hotel pantry at one point and all of the block and barrel chips they had were past their sell by date. The staff there had tried to be accommodating as they could, but it was moot because of the complete absence of the hotel manager.

Reserved a king suite with a fireplace and a jetted tub for my family to celebrate Mother's Day. Upon arrival we were immediately downgraded to a queen suite with a fireplace that did not work and a bathtub with no jets-- which my wife said she would be fine with, so I did not make a fuss about it. My kids wanted to do swimming so we did on both days, but there were no towels anywhere in the swimming area at any time during our stay, and we were forced to bring towels down from our hotel room; also the hot tub was cold. Breakfast was average, the smallish food bar was overcrowded, and at times there was a 10-minute wait to use the waffle machine.

One of the nicest places my wife and i have ever stayed so far as hotels go! Very spacious suite with full sized refrigerator, microvave, toaster, coffee maker, stove top, pots and pans, silverware, cups and plates, and even a disher and a fireplace in the room. The pool, hottub, weight room, and laundry room are open 24/7. (Laundry is not even coin operated.) The breakfast was very good and the staff was friendly and helpful. The parking lot is s bit congested is the only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars for it.
Over all I would highly recommend this hotel. Well worthe the money!! And over all 5 *****!!

Worst Hotel Booking Ever

Rooms were not ready at 3:40pm for 3pm check in. Room STUNK to high heaven and an oxidizer machine was brought in but didnt help...we truly had to stay out of our room until it was time to go to bed, which was the hardest mattress I've ever slept on BUT to end the night, we gad a room next to 2 dogs that either yapped ir barked all night!!!!!! Told the front desk at check and was told they would credit me $50 but only credited $30...WHAT A JOKE!@!!! I SHOULD HAVE BERN GIVEN A FULL REFUND!!!!!!!!

The hotel is really old and shabby. They are in the middle of renovations but Expedia doesn't tell you that. When I called the front desk to ask why I didn't get the room I paid for they were dismissive said they don't even have that room. Apparently Expedia sold me a room that doesn't exist. I won't stay here again and next time I will call Expedia immediately and ask that they make good on the room I paid for through them.

A very sad and depressing place to stay.

The Staybridge is at the very beginning of a much needed and long overdue renovation process. The rooms are in dire need with thin walls, carpet stains, ceiling patches, and old furnishings. I would have left and gone elsewhere if I could. I paid $190 for 1 night and I feel robbed. My recommendation is to stay elsewhere.

Dissatisfied: Booked AND PAID for King Suite regular, checked in and was told that they didn’t have King Suite regular, only Queen bed Suite accesible and that they couldn’t change rate. The water from accessible shower run out the shower and down the floor so we had to use towels to dry the floor.

The property is located right off the highway which made it convenient. It has a wonderful small lake right behind where we could walk the dogs. Staff is friendly. The problem is the first floor has large construction ongoing. This was not mentioned to us as we booked. It also did not have the indoor pool or exercise room availabe the entire time.

I stay in West Des Moines frequently with my family. I prefer to have a full kitchen for convenience with my kids. The staff here were so friendly and by far the best experience we've had compared to other hotels. This would be 5 stars across the board with the exception of our room was quite dated and needed many updates (broken tiles in bathtub surround, ceiling was just bad and needed to be scraped and redone, patching on the walls and the kitchen was in need of an update) I was a little disappointed that our room did not have the little bar with seating, but we made it work. We had a suite with 2 queen beds. Breakfast was good, staff was excellent. It was very clean. A few updates to this hotel and it will be my first choice!

-Also, They are in the process of renovating the lobby and hot tub. Pool was open, but also needed a bit of work.

Covered Bridge Festival Overnight

Well, the first problem my key would not work so I went back to get a new one. She said I have to fanagle it in order to open. Same thing happened, took me 10-15 times before I could even get into my room.

The room itself was great, except I thought I was getting a fireplace and a dvd player....I would have said something if I was staying later than a day, but not a big deal. Then the TV size was not the full size. I tried to fix it, but it would not work.

The breakfast was great except for the bacon. It seemed like it was not fully cooked.

Then I went to check out and waited for 10 minutes and nobody showed up.

There should always be two people at the desk for this reason.

Otherwise it was a decent stay. Nice and quiet.

When we walked in the microwave vent was on high and the air conditioner was set to 60 which we found odd. The ceiling had previous water damage in numerous spots and the paint was maybe mid touch up or just not done well. All of those issues would have been fine but the cleanliness of the floors, bathroom, and bedding left much to be desired. Had we arrived earlier we probably would have at the least requested a different room, but as it was after midnight we toughed it out. The other party we travelled with had no complaints, so possibly hit or miss. Our room a definite miss.

The pool was closed! As soon as you walk in the hotel there is a musty smell. The rooms are very out dated and all the furniture in the room had big stains on them. The mattress sunk in the middle. The shower faucet was leaking so bad and going down in the wall. We spent 30 minutes trying to find a different hotel but everyone was booked because of soccer and baseball tournaments going on in the area. The staff was not very friendly. Breakfast does not start until 7:30am and the coffee is cold. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Then when I checked out the hotel was to refund me $15.00 and the person behind the desk didn't know what to do until his 'boss' came in later in the day. We were not going to wait around that long as we were ready to go home. I would like my $15.00 back.

My signifant other and I spent the weekend here for an affordable getaway. We especially enjoyed the kitchen in the room and the pool/hot tub area. The weather was nice so we took some walks around the pond. The breakfast was very good. The staff was extremely helpful and accommodating. The laundry facility was free however a few machines were broke down and the elevator is slow. That would be my only complaint, but we will be back!

Check in was okay and the staff was friendly however the breakfast is not what the pictures make it look like by any means basically it was eggs and halfway cooked sausage with a couple of other random options like fruit that is not ripe and should not be served to humans. My door to my room didn’t even latch without having to slam it. the bathroom door didn’t latch at all the Jacuzzi tub in our room was not clean from the previous guests and was half way clogged so it didn’t even drain when I was taking a shower. things were very dirty, the sink had grease still in it from the previous people which made the entire room smell like sausage and bacon. overall not at all clean and they should not be putting people in rooms that are like this! hotel definitely needs an update and better cleaning staff.

The suite itself was very roomy and worked fine for our overnight stay. The property is showing wear, and our air didn’t work in the living room, the cable also didn’t work in the living room and there was no remote to be found. The toilet made loud running noises all night long. The hot tub was also broken. It was fine for the few hours we were actually there, but wouldn’t be my first choice if needing to stay in WDM again.

Generally a pretty nice place; the front desk people were friendly; however, the gentleman working the breakfast on Sunday morning, could not keep the food filled, literally came back twice and hardly anybody in the lobby area and there was hot food. The breakfast on Saturday was amazing. Room needs attention in the worst way; the bathroom fan is a fire waiting to happen and the tile in the bathroom was broken. Worse off was the night auditor was leaving the side doors open. The pool area had no fans or way to circulate the air; the chlorine smell was over powering and couldn't enjoy our time in the pool.

Was so disappointed with our experience. We have stayed here before in years past and loved it here. The building is needing some major renovation. Very worn. The first room we were given the heat was not working, dents in the wall, paint scraped off the wall, cracked around heating unit that cold air was coming in. We were given another room. Later on in the night our TV cable went out I went to report it by calling down to the front desk only to find that the phone system was out. I went down to the front desk and told them and was told maintenance would be notified. There was another man there that said he had four rooms and all four rooms the phone did not work . Also only ice machine is on the first floor by lobby how inconvenient that was. The next morning the phone system was still not working. At breakfast we had to ask several times for the Buffet to be refilled. Only one person working. I was told to look for salt and pepper on my own in the cupboards which was scary. I did not see anyone cleaning and disinfecting tables after people left which if you are going to promote clean means clean it should be! So disappointed! We will not be coming back here

This was a nice place to stay. The room was comfortable and spacious. Everything was clean. I had a King bed with Kitchen. I would have liked individualized eco wipes for the kitchen counters or spray to use with the paper towels so that I didn't have to use cloth to wipe up some sugar granules and droplets from the tea bag.
The breakfast was amazing. I was glad to see some high protein foods available and yogurt that wasn't 90% sugar.

My girls loved that they had movies to check out for no additional fees! It was a nice quiet stay! The first room i was assigned had 2 spiders crawling in the shower and brown stain in tub. Desk said that spiders mean theres no radon in the hotel. Was given room across the hall only to find a half dead wasp twitching in the corner. Refused refund and after 2 hours of chat finally gave me only one day back. The location is the only thing this hotel has going for it. Looks like the outside was reno'd to match the nice area, but once you walk in, it was nasty. The rooms were so ratty that I put the clean (?) sheets from the hidaway on all the furniture. The couch had holes in it and was trashed, the walpaper was pealing off the wall and the grout area was mildewed and gross.

We stayed here for 12 days... When we arrived the room appeared clean at the first glance. There were however still dirty dishes in the dishwasher that clearly had been there awhile as the smell was terrible.

We were told the elevator was broken upon arrival and that our room was on the 4th (top) floor but that it would be fixed by morning. It was not. It took until day 4 for it to be repaired (we stayed here as we were vendors for the state fair and had items to haul up/down DAILY). Each day we were told they were coming to repair it that day.

We realized early on that nobody was going to clean our room... like, ever. I am a RN and understand with Covid that may be a bit safer however, fresh towels would be nice from time to time. We did go to the front desk and ask for them and a couple times even got them. Other times were told they had none.

We left our trash outside of our room for pick-up as per a woman at the front desk early in our stay. It would sit there for DAYS. At least a full 24 hours - but twice for THREE days. They did pick the towels up that we placed next to the garbage bag though.

On day 3 we are pretty sure we found a baby roach (no hard exoskeleton yet) and took pictures but were told to “watch for more and let them know if there are any”...

The toilet had to be flushed twice to get it to work well... (never took the full load down). Were told it would be fixed.

We loved that the pool and hot tub area were open 24 hours! So often if you have a late arrival or early departure you don't get to take advantage of those amenities. Great idea!

The facility was a bit dated and the rooms a little musty, but even so, we were very pleased with the large rooms and they had everything we needed for a great experience.

carpet was dirty, tub was dirty, only had 2 bottles of water in their cooler for sale and cooler was almost empty. Asked the front desk if there were more and his reply was what they had was in there. Room refrigerator froze the bottle water

Upon arrival, our room did not have emptied garbage in the kitchen, there was a pizza box, the dishwasher had stuff in it, and the bathroom/closet mirror was dirty. We were grossed out but too tired to complain and shuffle around.
