Spent 6 nights over Christmas at the Generator Madrid. Great place and fantastic location, would highly recommend if looking for accommodation in Madrid.
Travelling with my daughter, so we had a twin private room and ensuite. Everything was just as described.
We ate in the dining area a couple of times, very convenient and prices were very good. Had their breakfast once, wasn’t for us, pretty basic but probably expected. There are plenty of options near by, plus a supermarket pretty much across the road.
We also used the washing machine and dryers as we were travelling for 6 weeks. Very handy and well priced.

Cons: Not huge issues but fyi - pretty full of young travel groups - so common areas were loud/busy during the day, great for groups. No soap in bathroom shower area, $6 towel rental (normal but just fyi). Sink, shower/bathroom is in bedroom area for some noise at night.

While I knew we were reserving a Hostel, I had not anticipated so many young people. Being in our later years this was a little overwhelming. People everywhere chattering, laughing and having a good time- but too much for us - would have preferred a more relaxing experience.

This was better than I expected it to be. Many reviewers said it was loud at night and we got lucky. It was quiet for us. We got a private room with 2 bunk beds. We were there during peak heat and the AC was not adjustable in the room. I would say that was my biggest complaint. The room was clean. The staff were friendly enough. The rooftop terrace was lovely

Great location. Close to food, shopping and public transportation. The staff are friendly and understanding. I strongly suggest to have your breakfast in the hotel. Another good thing about this hotel is that they have a restaurant on the main floor, and a rooftop bar / dining area. Though I would suggest that they keep the guest washroom open, even 30min after the restaurant closes; and cleaner 😉

Super friendly night shift staff who helped me negotiate getting to the property as I drove there from the airport and had difficulty locating the place. Very convenient and great location to sightsee. Everything within walking distance. Be warned that the underground garage is difficult to navigate especially if you’re used to the large wide open parades of North America

Good for others, maybe, but not for me.

1. When one person just moves or tosses and turns, the whole bunk bed shakes.

2. The narrow, dark and long corridor shaped like a snake feels suffocating.

3. You have to pay for towels, lockers, etc. Not a few hotels / dormitories of a same category offers at least one towel per stay. If you arrives at the hotel earlier than check-in time, you need to sit down there waiting for the check-in or put your suitcase in the locker paying a lot.

4. Check out before 10:00am is not easy to find.

Beautiful location in a beautiful city. Generator is my go to every time I travel if they’re available in the city I’m travelling to. Shower was a little blocked but seemed to sort itself after day 1. Room was nice and modern. Very quite considering you’re in the city centre. Downstairs facilities are brilliant as is the rooftop bar. Highly recommend.

Had a private double room. We loved our slightly unusual triangle-shaped room, it was spotlessly clean and really comfortable. This place is really really well designed, and the location is perfect.

The Jacuzzis on the roof were closed with no notice which was a shame, but that doesn't change the fact that this is a fantastic place to stay. We'll definitely be back.

Definitely book Generator!

I love the late checkout ability, it is at an additional cost (€15 for private rooms, €5 for dorms) that allow you to checkout at 1pm instead of 10am. The rooms (both private and dorm) were very clean and super comfortable. Front desk staff were great, both day and night time. My only critique would be the restaurant thy is downstairs, little confused as to how this operates. There isn’t wait staff to order from and isn’t a clear marker for where you can order. Other than that, placement of this hostel is great for being right downtown and the closest subway is about a 5 min walk.

Generator hostels are good.

As a Generator chain's Hostel it has a good accomodation and service. The staff always attend to your necesities. Clean rooms and common spaces and good bar.

I was notified at the front desk that the A/C wasn't working, but there was a portable A/C unit placed into the room as a substitute. I spoke with the other guests in the room who said that the A/C had not been working for quite a while, so I would have preferred Generator Madrid to send out any email warning people as such days before hand so I could have made other arrangements. Since my bed was located around the corner of the other beds and away from the A/C unit, I received little to no A/C to my side. This made my stay overall very uncomfortable, and unbearable unless I was in my underwear. Apart from that my stay was as you'd expect in a hostel. There are drawers underneaths the beds to keep valuables, with the option of adding a lock.

Really Enjoyed and Reccomended

Wasnt expecting much from the value of the nights but to be such in central madrid. Great links and such a modern looking hostel with good amenities id definitely reccomend to people. Would be good to have curtains on beds however and lights that go off for one half of the room so everyone arent bothered when guests come back

It was for everyone my room. I am a girl and when I arrived there were men sleeping in my room!!!! So I went to the reception and they said that it was a shared room. What the heck is that? I am not that open mind! I want my refund back I gave the key back and walked away.

Very petty customer service(managers Ricardo,Rafa)

I made a mistake when booking and realised at check in. I was quoted a price to upgrade that was more than double the price difference online with both the property direct and expedia/hotels.com. I booked the better room on expedia and asked to cancel the old booking. They wouldn't cancel it even though i was stood in the reception of the property with duplicate bookings!
Expedia contacted the property to cancel it, they would not cancel it.
I raised a complaint, they would not cancel it.
I asked for the issue to be escalated to management, they never got back to me.
A little context, I have been travelling over a year now and have spent close to 400 nights in hotels and hostels and this is the WORST customer service i have encountered during my time in 12 different countries..
