The room we have checked into had a terrible smell of sewage so we requested a change. The next room we're changed to had the same issue and this time the air conditioning wasn't working properly in the sweltering heat. We requested a change of room the second time and it was the same issue and at this point we were exhausted and tired.

The receptionists were abysmal and their excuse for the pungent smell was the room wasn't cleaned properly and that, we could have waited for a second clean instead of requesting a room change. Not worth the charge of a motel!

Pictures shown for the double rooms are not accurate. I booked this hotel thinking I would have a room with a big terrace, outdoor seating, a sofa in the room etc. in reality the rooms were very tiny, essentially a bed only. I asked to be moved to a terrace room after checking in. Another guest was at the front desk voicing the same concerns. The staff was very friendly, they did the best they could, but after being moved to a balcony room it still did not match the size or design as shown in the listing. Don’t be fooled like we were!!! The rooms themselves were clean and updated nicely, but it wasn’t worth what I paid for. Overall I felt tricked with this booking.

Worth to stay if you can get a good rate

Well located for some of the sights and local convenience stores but the street and Immediate area are a bit grubby and instantly forgettable. The hotel has a new feel throughout and good ergonomic functionality but small room and no view in to a small internal courtyard undermined the experience which was overall a bit soulless. Having said that the price paid was very competitive compared other hotels for that date and offered good value for money. Didn’t use any of the amenities.

The smoke and food smell in the room is unacceptable. The only staff in the hotel, was the front desk representative who did not provide any solution and nobody else was inform about our problems. She admitted that it was a very bad smell and she only provide a odor spray that obviously didn’t help. We traveled with 2 kids and we had no other option than stay at the hotel on that conditions and paying not a cheap rate. I do not recommend this hotel at all.

The first night the hotel gave me a one person service room. We 're a 70+ couple and paid for a double room in a 4 stars hotel not a hostel. The room given to us had a small bed barely enough for one of us. The bed sheets were filthy with a blood stain at the mid section.
Avoid. At this rate you can stay at many other properties with adequate service.

The hotel is just as it seems in pictures. Room was comfortable by European standards (we are 4). Air conditioning worked great as well as the hot water. Location is ok, a bit further from Sol than I’d prefer, but it was fine.

Nice modern hotel close to Gran Via. The outside image of the hotel and the street it is located on, doesn't do the interior any justice. Once you've walked in, the inside is very clean, modern with a luxury feel to it. Tube stations, Plaza Espana and Gran Via are all accessible by foot. The breakfast was a slight let down on the pastry side. Lots of cakes on display but I believe people would rather fresh pastries than cheesecake for breakfast. We were also expecting spa, swimming pool facilities at the hotel but none were available, which was another let down.
Good stay overall but will look for an alternative hotel with more facilities next time.

Pretty good hotel

The best things about this hotel were that it's very close to many main attractions of Madrid and the hotel staff were very friendly and attentive. Every person at the front desk I spoke to know both English and Spanish. Breakfast was pretty good and included an assortment of ham (it's Spain, of course), fruits, eggs, pastries, and cold cereals.

As for the rooms, it was pretty basic. The bed was very firm, which I didn't mind as much as the very flat pillows. The bed also didn't come with a duvet/comforter, but only a thin, wool-like blanket that I found stashed in the closet. I don't tend to use coffee makers, but there wasn't one in my room. The room and bathroom were at least clean and spacious enough for one person. The only other issue that I had was that there were tons of ants in my room. Everyday, I would find a few on the bed and the bathroom always had more.

Another thing to note is that you may have to use different entrances depending on where your room is. Mine required me to go through an entrance about two doors down from the main entrance and after a certain time at night, required a special code to unlock the door.

Room not even in the hotel building

When we arrived, the hotel looked quite nice, but our room, it turned out, was in the neighbouring building. This building appeared to be a permanent apartment building, not a hotel. The room was very uncomfortable, and the bed felt like cardboard on a springboard. The sink and tub were leaky and the temperature of the water wildly fluctuated, making it very difficult to shower. No coffee machine or tea in room. When we went down for breakfast, they were out of all the hot foods (eggs, bacon, etc). We waited 20 minutes and no further foods were brought out (this was at 8am). We raised our concerns and were told management would be in touch, but it has been more than a week and we have heard nothing. This place does not deserve 4 starts!

The hotel is very close to transportation especially the metro and walking distance to the main sites like Palacio Real, Mercado de San Miguel, Plaza Santa Ana, Plaza Mayor, and many more. The room though itself felt a little gringy and dark although clean it wasnt the best looking.

Would definitely stop here again. Room was an excellent, spacious mini suite. It was very good value too and in a very good location. The only thing that was a bit strange was that to access the room, you had to go back out of the building and enter through a different entrance. It would appear that the hotel has expanded into a neighbouring apartment block, but this seems to have resulted in very spacious rooms.

Post Camino Stay

Stayed for 3 nights after walking the Camino. It is a nice hotel for the price in Madrid. My room was small and old but clean. If you are used to business travel in America, then this hotel will seem old and a bit shabby. It grew on me and I liked it better at the end than at the beginning.

A couple of things that are odd. Some of the rooms are accessed from the building next door. I was very tired when I arrived after walking 15km that morning and then a long train ride, so I didn't quite get it. You go outside and then into the building next door which has no sign that indicates it belongs to the Coloso hotel...confusing. Then there is a thing near the door in which you stick your keycard that allows the lights to work. I have never seen this in America and again confusing. These things could be explained better by the staff which all spoke reasonably good English.

On the bright side you are very close to two Metro lines including one that gets you to Barajas with just one line change. It is also in a mini Asia town that includes some cheap markets and Chinese, Vietnamese, and a very good Sushi restaurant within a few blocks.

Location is only positive thing about this hotel

No elevator between ground level and check in desk - set of 15 stairs- then another set of 10 stairs to elevator

Room - beds like army cots, hard mattress with only fitted & top sheet - no blanket unless you request - single pillow

Room - AC control had flimsy hard plastic cover that fell off if you touched to adjust temperature

Room - austere with one desk, small fridge (did not use, it had drinks in it) with very small TV on top, plastic chair, love seat sofa that was stained and hard as a rock

Bathroom- tiny, single sink with limited counter space, provided gel shower wash and bar of soap (no shampoo) ...when our room was cleaned day 1 they took our washcloth that we brought (always bring your own in Europe they rarely provide) and did not replace it, took the bar of soap but left the gel shower wash...the toilet and bidet face each other with less than a foot between them and you have to pass between them in order to climb into the tub/shower

Hair dryer did not work unless you jiggled the cord and then only for less than a minute

Shower water would shock you with boiling hot water for like a 10 second burst ...then resume at steady temp for 2-3 minutes then you'd get blasted again...this would burn a child...not sure if this was from others flushing toilets or bad valve

Breakfast was great and the staff were very nice with quick smiles

Overall this felt like what I'd imagine an hourly hotel would be, or an apartment complex that hadn't been updated in 40 years.

The locations is very good near the central area close to sites and a subway metro station .
There are many restaurants and coffee shops in the immediate area. The hotel is rated as a 4 star but in my opinion the most I would rate it as a 3 star but more like a 2 star. The bed squeaks like crazy, front desk told me that all the beds in the hotel are the same. Which doesn't make sense. The bathroom is outdated I had to purchase plastic vacuum hooks to hang towels. The breakfast is very good with lots of variety of cheese cold cuts breads and cookies and good coffee.

Not so good for a 4**** hotel

The hotel consists of two buildings right next to each other. The first night I was placed on the 4th floor of the adjacent building and my first impression was terrible: dirty walls and carpet in the hallways, dark room with no natural light, outdated room. The adjacent building has not direct connection to the reception and breakfast room so you have to go outside and enter through the main building. This adjacent building needs some serious upgrade and in its current state does not correspond to 4**** quality. I asked to be moved to the main building for the remaining two nights. The main building has been updated more recently and I was quite satisfied with my room on the first floor.

Old Hotel In A Very Poor Location

The staff were generally responsive, but always acted rushed.

The garage was terrible to get in and out - extremely small and awkward. A!so very overpriced at $23 per night.

When the hotel key which turns on the lights in the room is removed, it also shut off the electricity to all the receptical. Very inconvenient.

Although they claim \"no smoking rooms\", the first night the smoke from other rooms leaked into the hallway and into our room. It was so bad that they had to move us to another room. The new also had some residue of smoke.

The shower door in both rooms had the rubber sealant which keeps the water from leaking out missing. Everytime we took a shower, the bathroom floors got flooded. We reported the problem, but they were never repaired!

The street where the hotel is located is next to the police station. At any given time we would see 5 or 6 cops outside next to the hotel smoking. We had to sign bunch of papers so the cops allow us to drive in that street to our parking space. When attempted to park our car in front so we could drop off the room key, a police with cigarette in his hand approached us and rudley ordered us to move. We had to drive around many narrow streets to get back to the front of the hotel, which wasted about 15 minutes. All because the rude officer refused to give us less than 5 seconds to run the keys inside.

If you are considering this hotel, you may be better off to keep looking.

The hotel was very clean and in an excellent location for accessing all areas of Madrid by foot or metro if preferred. The staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast was more than adequate. The only downfalls were that the hotel could do with an update in terms of decor, more so in the communal areas, and the lighting in the room needs improvement plus better location of plug sockets. Also some of the rooms are in a. Adjacent building so you need to go out into street from reception and back in or via a corridor using different lifts, not a real problem but unexpected. Overall a good stay.

While the property is in need of a good renovation to update the hallways and room decor. The rooms are spacious and clean with great storage and larger than average bathrooms with a tub. The reception area is really nice and inviting with really wonderful and friendly staff. A good thing is that it's located within walking distance to central and shopping areas but is still on a quiet enough street to get a good nights rest. Its was okay for a 2 night stay if you are looking for a spacious no frills room with all the expected ammenties close enough to the city centre and activities.

Great location but disappointed with room

Great location situated on a slight hill between two metro stations. Sights, shops, bars and restaurants all within very close walking distance. Lobby and breakfast room are nice but the rest of the decor is very dated. Room felt claustrophobic as it was small and Windows had frosted glass (overlooked other rooms over a central courtyard so was obviously for privacy but was unpleasant). Bed extremely hard, like sleeping on a shelf! No spare pillows or bedding so had to ask reception for extra pillows. Bathroom was ok but nothing felt particularly clean. Loud from other rooms. Glad we only stayed one night. Actually stayed here 6 years prior but hadn't realised we'd booked exact same hotel. We Had a better (larger) room on top floor. But it had ants. Wouldn't have booked this hotel again if we knew it was the ant hotel!
In the positive, other than great location, Breakfast was very good, there was plenty of choice and the room was a good size so felt spacious.
Very friendly check in staff.

Great Hotel, right in the middle of Madrid and the tapa bars, restaurants, shopping. Only one complaint, but minor. We were in that new Wing and it seemed that finding our way to the room, 329 was a bit of a labyrinth. The cleaning crew did not get to our room until quite late, nearly 4:00 p.m. They were on that floor very early in the a.m.but perhaps they need more help.

The rooms are a bit old fashioned, but in very good shape and most rooms are quite large (I've stayed here several times). Breakfast is quite good with a buffet with hot and cold food.
Close to a few strip clubs and the police station is next door, just in case of problems.
The only negative point is that the wifi coverage can be quite bad in some rooms.

Weekend trip!

I came to Madrid for 3 nights and I chose this hotel because it seemed central and good price. The room was really big but the smell was not very nice inside, also there was a noise maybe from the water pipes that kept me up on my last night. On my last day we ran out of water in the room. Also the sofa in the room was half broken.
The location is great and the rooms very big and good priced but was not happy with the smell, dust, noise and water.

Rooms was clean but we can hear the people conversations in the corridors which was not conformable.

Perfect location and hotel was all that we needed

Obviously the location is fantastic, esay connection from the airport and we did everything by foot, didn't need any transport. Found a great cafe near the Paca Sto Domingo with a terrace for breakfast/lunch/dinner! Had everything there and it was very authentic.
Hotel staff was super freindly and provided all we wanted (baby bed, kettle) and internet worked fine.

Our room was in an adjacent tower. The bathroom was quite neglected, some mold on the tiles and the ceiling tiles were gaping. I could not adjust the temperature because the thermostat was very old. I would stay at this hotel again however, because of the convenient location.

Awesome family trip

I staid in Madrid a week and looked for a 4 stars hotel not to much expensive and well located and this hotel answered my needs.But when i arrived i understand this hotel is not a all a 4 stars hotel.It's a good 3 stars but not more.Rooms are very clean but not comfortable.The hotel has 2 parts.One inside the hotel and one outside.In the outside, rooms are bigger but with a lot of noise and in the hotel, rooms are small.The staff is very nice and the hotel is very clean. The location is near the Gran Via a few minutes walk.

Good Location

The location is good, close to Plaza Mayor and several Madrid attractions.
It is a shame the hotel has a so poor maintenance.
The manager should just have a look at the rooms, floor is terrible, shades doesn't close, etc.
Hotel offers free internet that works reasonably well but there are NO power outlets, so or you have the lamp or you charge your computer or you charge your phone...
In this condition clearly not a 4 star hotel.
Considering the location it deserves a renovation.

Could have provided blankets, not just sheets and the fold out bed was not very comfortable or sturdy.

Never go back to this hotel

The hotel is well located, 1 block from La Gran Via. But the rooms were not as in the pictures, when we checked in they send us to a building next door, the bed matress was very old and very small bed, no blankets, the windows could not be opened and had no view
