I can’t complain much for the price paid. It was cheap enough and the room was clean. However, it is a very old hotel. The indoor pool is currently not operational. There was no cart be available to transport luggage from your vehicle to your room. we asked for a rollaway bed and was told it was not available. The television does not have local channels. Just Roku. I had to go downstairs to go get a remote for the television. There is no phone, coffee, maker, or microwave in the room. There is no continental breakfast or coffee in the lobby. It served its purpose. I just needed a place to stay after the game.

The service was terrible, staff support was lacking, the 3rd floor was a storage place, and it was given to me for a room to stay.
I came in at 2:00 AM, and despite the fact it was late at night, I had to return the room and got out to find a more suitable hotel to stay.
I asked for the full refund the next day -- talked to Rago the manager -- and was told that the refund would be done immediately. Thank you, Josepj Nguyen

I stayed at Howard Johnson by Wyndham Benton Harbor/St. Joseph 798 Ferguson Dr, Benton Harbor, MI 49022. Last week on 10-23-24. When riding their only working elevator to the top floor 5th to go to my room. The elevator dropped multiple times after passing the 4th floor. It made a horrible popping and banging noise and I was locked in the violently shacking elevator for 20 seconds of nightmare inducing fear until the door opened. When doing so it was misaligned bouncing by over a foot to a few inches as it kept trying to get to the top floor. Fearing for my life I jumped out leaving half of my stuff behind. After trying to go downstairs by the stairwell and it being locked by CHAINS I had to call the elevator, and pray. As it shook the floor I was standing on I did take video incase I died so there was evidence for my grieving family. When reaching the top it didn't have the horrifying gap as the first time just a 2 inch one that settled by the time the door fully opened. Thinking it was all the extra weight of my belongings I left what I was carrying and rode down with what I had left behind. Then after selecting the 1st floor it dropped before the door fully closed allowing me to see the back side of the 5th & 4th floors doors. I informed the front desk staff where they put me in a 1st floor room. They then assured me that it was normal just needing to warm up before it would work properly and it was perfectly safe to ride back up and retrieve my laptop bag and cpap bag. I

The price was right. The room was clean. There were a few things that could be better: The elevator became noisy, there was some broken glass in the window next to the elevator on the 5th floor, and the light in the bathroom would not stay on but rather blinked, but you get what you pay for. I would return.

The beds were clean and comfortable, but the bathroom was horrible. The toilet wouldn't flush properly, the tub was stained and rusty, scarry looking. The hallways snelled humid. We didn't use the pool, but we looked, and there was a horrible looking green caroet around the pool.

Don’t Book. Bathroom is lined with black mold the plumbing leaked everywhere the carpet and furniture was cut/torn up the was cigarette burns everywhere the bed was covered in bed bugs. Family stayed there for 2 nights and my kids were disappionted that the pool was closed both days. We tried using our Amercian Exoress card to check in, but was told it was declined. The family checking in behind us also tried using that card and was told it was declined. Yet they called and the card was fine as we also knew iur card was fine as we just used it the same day elsehwere. The room was clean, but we had a hard time falling asleep due to a bright light staying lit all night on our patio. There was no light switch to turn it off . We were going to call the front desk but there was no phone in our room. We had a too much light coming in around the curtains.

Nightmare before and after the beach

When I showed up I was told I couldn’t check in for another five minutes, so I told the front desk I’d wait at a chair and that I’d like to check in immediately. With two minutes to go the person left for 15 minutes. I had to use their ring doorbell to get their attention.

When they got there they had multiple issues with my reservation and demanded to know my children’s first and last names. At various times this person also questioned my signature and insisted I was spelling MY WIFE’S name wrong, despite it being correct in the reservation.

The rooms weren’t labeled, my two rooms reserved under the same reservation were at opposite ends of the hotel, and the pool (advertised) had been out of operation for “two to three years”. My rooms toilet didn’t flush, my wife’s shower didn’t work, but they’d overbooked somehow and so a room change was out of the cards.

There’s a broken elevator, restaurant is closed, and my daughter’s bed had bugs. People got arrested outside. People yelling inside. Moldy bathrooms covered with paint. Avoid at all costs.

This hotel is disgusting. The pictures are stock photos, not from the hotel. There is no pool, no restaurant, and it's filthy. The balcony windows are scuzzy. The desk chair was on the patio, covered is white stains. The hotel smelled VERY strongly of marijuana. The ancient microwave was yellow with smoke stains. The carpet was pulled up in many places, tattered and an unhygienic tripping hazard. We were so grossed out buy the crumbling, stinky, filthy room, we didn't look in the bathroom. I can't imagine what horrors were in there. DO NOT stay here. It's unsanitary, unclean, and unsafe.

No pool, no breakfast in this seedy place...

Okay, so it all started in the parking lot - very sketchy neighborhood and i dont get the creeps easily. Trying to check in, we had to ring a camera doorbell and the host took a while to get up to the door. Then after getting checked in, had to put a cash deposit down for our keys, which was strange... then the host led us to our room and the door was already open. Which was incredibly unusual to me. The shower looked like someone just didnt care to scrub it, ever. They enforce a \"quiet time\" but until that time IT WAS SO LOUD! screaming, doors slamming.. ridiculous. Not to mention at about midnight, it sounded like someone was drilling through the wall next door! And then ALL NIGHT LONG, sounded like there was water dripping in the ceiling. Got a poolside room but the pool was shut down. There was NO breakfast as it advertises. Felt like this hotel which was probably once a very nice hotel has turned into a flop house. I do not recommended staying here.

I paid $50 extra to have a pool view room. There are no pool view rooms. The pool has been condemned by the city 3 years ago. However they’re still happy to take your money and charge you extra for the pool view. I was shown 3 different rooms. All were filthy. I was told they could not cancel my reservation and refund my money. The entire property is in disrepair. This is by far the worst hotel I’ve ever stayed in. I can’t believe the entire building isn’t condemned. The man at the desk actually tried to be helpful other than refusing to cancel the reservation or refunding the money for the non existent pool view. Even the balcony was filthy.

I can believe they are allowed to operate.

Looks like they just reopened a couple of weeks ago, after being abandoned for a couple of years. The floors were dirty and walls were dirty everywhere. The carpet was coming apart at the seems. One elevator was out of order and the other looked like it should be. There was mold around the patio door in the room and the linen was stained. Even though there was a no refund policy, we chose not to stay, and instead continued our 14 hour drive home. I can not stress enough how truly awful the place was. This website should be ashamed to have them listed. It is more of a flop house than a hotel.

Upon check-in, we were informed that the pool was closed and had been for a while now. The buffet breakfast that was offered was an intercontinental upon arrival. The overall cleanliness of the lobby and hallways was disgusting. The elevator’s floor tiles were broken and missing in spots. There was trash throughout the hallway to the room. The blanket was strung across the bed and it was not made and the sheets had very large noticeable stains on them. The floor hadn’t been vacuumed and the bathroom had bugs and trash all over the floor with stained towels. People are also living in the hotel with their children.

We did not stay at the property. When my husband went to check in the ceiling in the foyer was water damaged, falling down, and appeared to be moldy. My husband brought this up to the clerk who assured him that the rooms were remodeled. My husband asked to see. The clerk took him to a room that was remodeled and looked nice, but the hallway to the room was literally a construction zone.Multiple wires hang from the ceiling, no carpet on the floor, construction material strewn about the hall, exit signs hanging loose with no lights or lenses. Completely unsafe for children (or adults!) My children were looking forwrd to the indoor pool, but is was closed. Worst hotel experience that we have ever encountered. The outside was not well-maintained either. The parking lot was grassy The awning had no fabric left on it. It looked ike a dump from the outside.

This hotel is a dump and looks very unsafe. There was broken equipment outside of the hotel. People were loitering in the parking lot and outside the doors. The pool is closed until further notice. They do not have the continental breakfast they advertise. They will make you sign an agreement that if you do not notify them within 10 minutes of check in that there is an issue, you forfeit your right to a refund or change. Do not stay here. There are plenty of other hotels nearby and in a safer neighborhood. Thankfully, Expedia allowed us to transfer our money to one of the other hotels.

This property was there very worst hotel I have ever rented. The money I paid for the night here We could've went to a drug and cockroach hotel and had a way cleaner room
The pool and hot tub were not working and filled in with storage stuff. They are both indoors. This was the only reason I booked this room. No free breakfast like the add stated. The furniture had rips the room never heated up even with the thermostat set at 86. Froze all night the elevator did not seem safe we didn't feel safe enough and uncomfortable that we left at 3am in the morning. Didn't arrive untill 5:30. When we arrived I was thinking the hotel was closed down. Furniture and mattresses were all out front. I will never stay here again. You couldn't pay me enough to stay here. They wouldn't refund any of my money so I was stuck.

Worst hotel stay ever.

This hotel was the worst place my Husband and I have ever stayed! We will never be staying at a Wyndham hotel in the future. The first room we were given had a air conditioner that had blow the outlet and melted the plug. When we went to the desk he was overall nice about getting us a new room but made sure it was clear that it was such an inconvenience to him! In our 2nd room (non-smoking room) we were met with an overwhelming scent of cigarette smoke but since the AC worked, we said screw it, he’s just going to tell us it’s either too big of a deal or that there is no more rooms! Upon further inspection there was cigarette burn marks all over the walls, the bathroom tub was moldy, the bed only had a sheet on it that looked dirty, and there was a shopping bag over the fire alarm. We were so disgusted with the room we used our own blankets on top of the bed so we did t have to sleep directly on it! Overall, worst hotel experience ever! Wyndham will be on our NO GO list for sure!

Normally, I would never even consider walking away from a non-refundable stay at a place I had booked online that had a reasonable rate and ok reviews. I knew driving up that the place was in rough shape, but I gave the benefit of the doubt and I really wanted to treat myself in an otherwise beautiful area.
Long story short: Awful odor in hallways and room (stale smoke), zero updates in rooms..bad carpet. Sheets old. Poor quality pillows. Dead bird on the patio. Entire pool area closed and filled with piles of junk, even though a pool was advertised. I am not an overly fussy person by any means, but I felt unsafe with the surroundings. And even though I knew I paid $113 for the night I left after 10 minutes.

Was not a pleasant stay at all. Pics are not what you get at this hotel. Our room was not cleaned, had NO pillowcases on pillows. No towels in bathroom. Soaps were used and from other hotels. When I asked for pillowcases and towels, they gave me one towel. Stating they ran out because if full rooms. Had to buy towels, and pillow to use. Pool was \"temporarily\" closed but by looks of it has not been used for a while, there were lamps and desks in there being used as storage room. By far one of the worst stays I have had in a hotel.

Overall, the place is disgusting. Everything is old, dirty, smelly, etc. I paid $100 for 1 king bed for 1 night and it was not worth it at all. The bed didn't even have a fitted sheet on it, there was mold in the bathroom, and the sink clogged and cause the pipes to start leaking. When my boyfriend and I went to check out, we were going to speak with the front desk clerk but there wasn't one... at all. We waited there for at least 5 minutes and no one ever showed up nor was there any way to try to get their attention. So we ended up leaving and tried calling them when we got home to let them know how unhappy we were with our stay and the employee my boyfriend spoke with was the most rude and disrespectful customer service employee and literally told my boyfriend to \"shut the f*** up\" when my boyfriend was not cursing or even raising his voice at the employee. I will never be staying at this hotel again and I'll be surprised if this place is still in business 5 years from now.

The stay here was awful the first thing we seen pulling up was a man sleeping in the parking lot. Then we went to check in and the man at the desk I belive his name was dave was rude. Then we get to the room we had the poolside view we planned to swim but the pool was closed, but that wasnt the worst part the pool area was filled with beds and lamps from other rooms. In our room we couldnt take a shower because the tub and shower was so disgusting. There was a giant whole in the wall with a board barely covering it, and 160 a night for this place is definitly way overpriced.

Don’t waste your money in this place!

We did not stay and would hope to be able to get refunded. The hotel was absolutely horrible. It was filthy! The bed was clearly laid on. Dust and hair everywhere. The bathtub was dingy, grimy, sickening. The elevators and hallways smelled. There were transients in the hallway. People laying in the hallways. The website talked about essential travelers but this requirement was very clearly not being met. The manager was not empathetic and although he offered a different room, why would we stay in a place that was clearly not well kept.

Property slightly run down, however they was showing signs of trying to get things in order...They had people fixing things. The hotel was dirty. The elevator and hallways was the dirtiest. Then room was a little unprofessional...probably perfect for some young kids fresh outta highschool going on a vacation beach adventure and get tor up at night..it would be perfect for a crowd like that ..they probably wouldn't complain.. staff was friendly didn't bother us much. They gave extra towels and extra toilet paper when needed they didn't harass you ... The place just seem like it needed a really good carpet scrubbing some wiping down of the walls , and just a little bit more money put into the place.. I want to say the bed skirt was a king put on a queen so it was kind of draping on the floor that's unprofessional.... If they was to put a little bit more money and bring the place back to life and give the carpets a great carpet cleaning. The place would be decent... It was not rowdy it was not unsafe the two nights we went there... Just a little dirty

This was absolutely the worst place I've ever slept in! Best bonus no bed bugs. Holes in walls,carpet is disgusting, pool closed even though they NEVER said anything at booking! Stains on the bed skirts and curtains, we were so grossed out by tub we didn't even shower, and our sink didn't drain! Oh and we had left overs in our fridge from who knows when, moldy chicken salad!!!! Staff was rude and acted as if the issues were our fault! I see them going under quickly!!!

I stayed in Room 402. It was not clean: the walls of the bathroom were dirty, with numerous stains that may have been blood. The carpet of the bedroom was sticky. The smell was quite uncomfortable: this room was clearly smoked in recently. The room had not been dusted at all recently. The curtains did little to block the light from outside. In short, it was a rough night in a very uncomfortable hotel room. I would advise anyone to stay elsewhere if possible.

Scary!! DO NOT STAY HERE. Not gor families!

The hotel was so dilapidated looking, and had lots of people just \"hanging out\" outside the front entrance. It was so scary looking that even though we had 2 non-refundable rooms booked, we didn't stay there. And they weren't cheap. The pool was also not in use, even though the website said otherwise. The pictures of the horel appear to be several years old, as the condition of the hotel is nothing like the ones pictured.

Horrific visit

I got to hotel on 7/23 and was greeted with a nasty smell when walking into hotel lobby that was horrible. I asked to see the room before laying my bags down and found floors dirty, bed nast with bugs crawling on it. People lined up wirh there family disappointed royally. Pool was closed and lined with mattresses lined around it. The conditions in this hotel was ertrocious. I want a refund asap. Manager Dave was not helpful at all, telling me and other customers he could not refund our credit.

We ended up not staying. When we got there I had to sign a paper that said you have 10 minutes to decide if you want to stay. That should be your first sign. We walked into our room and it was all downhill from there. There were stains all over the bedding and chairs. Any surface looked like it had never been cleaned. There was still toothpaste on the bathroom counter from who knows when. We were on the 4th floor and there was water damage stains everywhere - there were 5 floors. There must be issues going on in the rooms above us. I reached out to Expedia to get our money back and the front desk person kept hanging up on her. I emailed photos to Expedia and she was was so disgusted. She had to escalate my situation so I don’t know what’s going to happen but DO NOT STAY HERE!!! It is so unsafe and appalling.

Hotel was okay. Seemed a little run down. Area did not seem to be the best. Staff were friendly. Needed to sign waiver about utilizing the pool but didn’t seem to be in working condition. We spent the night while passing through town on a road trip. It met our needs for a clean bed and a shower

Something sticky was stuck in the carpet. The floor was very dirty.Bathroom was filthy. Only provided with one towel and washcloth. Had to go after those. Pop machine was broke, fridge in room was not working. Pool wasn’t open. I was afraid to let my dog on the floor. Dried boogers were all over the walls.No breakfast as advertised. For this I paid $149.00 plus taxes. And $15.00 for your dog to stay.

Howard Johnson hotel is a terrible place to stay.
Staff was friendly but overwhelmed.
Gave me a room key for a room that had the air conditioner siting on the floor. Opps they said we gave u the wrong room.
Next room was dirty, only 2 towels no wash cloths for 4 people. Manager gave us 1 more wash cloth and 2 worn out towels.
When we left the room we had to update keys every time.
Amenity were access to pool which was closed. Wifi slow and breakfast none served.

Hi the place is way too old and stinking (though the room is claimed to be no smoking room, the whole room , balcony and the towels were with smoke smell

It has a tube Tv which doesn’t work
AC which makes sound louder than a pick up trucks running engine

Kindly suggest hotels.com to delist the place and some offer it to anyone else

So disappointing

I always read reviews and didn’t this time because we decided to find a place with little notice. It’s exactly the way the other reviews state. Old, worn down, nothing works. We reserved for two people. One towel and one wash cloth. Toilet lid comes off when toilet is flushed. Shower head was hand held and barely worked. No pool or breakfast like advertised. Luckily we were busy and didn’t have to spend time in the room. I would have canceled if everything else wasn’t full. I’ve learned my lesson and will always read reviews!

The room was dirty an bed sheet where not clean . The pool was shut down n older model tv no cable very few channels . Cereal breakfast n cheap muffins . Sink would not drain for hours later . Took two times to flush toilet the wall paper coming off . View was not good . Not enough towels in room after they knew we was a family of three . Phone in room did not work n they did not replace it . If u want a good stay n u have kids I do not recommend this place . Not what it shows in pics online n plus in a bad location too not very safe at night .

Hell to the no no nooo do not stay here

Worst hotel ever, I will never stay in anything Wyndham affiliated ever again and I will definitely not ever return here. We checked in fine and got to the room, I was already freaked out and humming hell to the nooo but when we got in the room I said oh hell to the NO NO NOOO and we turned and walked out. Do not stay here.
