Highlights include a wonderfully kind and competent staff and an incredible beach. Be sure to bring your snorkel and mask -- there is plenty to see right off the coast of the hotel!

Great resort very clean, friendly staff. The only complaint I have is the beach is more like a lagoon. The water is perfectly flat beautiful to look at but as soon as you step in, it feels like a lake, murky after a few feet,& your feet sink into the sand like mud and it’s barely 3 feet deep until the ropes.
Great for little kids, but a 10 minute walk down the beach brings you to the Riu tropical with a beach that looks and feels perfect

Everything was great at the RIU Hotel Negril. We missed our connecting flight due to lack of flight attendant with Spirit (which I will never fly again with them), so we missed our first night stay. We were able to call the hotel to let them know, and upon arriving the next day they upgraded us to an ocean front room. I did not encounter one unfriendly hotel employee. I can’t wait to go back!

The check in staff was wonderful especially, Tafari. However, hospitality ended there. Compared with the delightful Aquarelle, Negril was cold, unfriendly, and showed poor customer care. Guests smoked and vaped anywhere, including their rooms, since both my mom and I could smell marijuana coming from other rooms.

I only enjoyed the breakfast buffet, entertainment was not always enjoyable, and overall atmosphere was non exciting. My family left Aquarelle, as they hadn’t visited Negril before and thought the experience would be close to Aquarelle. Very disappointing.

The dining, reception, facilities, and grounds were clean and seemed maintained. The beach was a little better than Aquarelle, but lacked sufficient shade from the sun. My room was clean, but special care needed for the floor. Chantel showed warmth and friendliness. Also, hallways and stairs seemed to have debris, at times. Overall, average stay and wouldn’t recommend to family or friends staying over two nights.

The Hotel Riu Negril was an amazing family vacation experience!! The hotel wasn't overcrowded, as some resorts can be. The food was phenomenal!! The pools and beach areas were clean. The entertainment staff worked long hours and earned for me high marks. Overall, I loved staying at the Hotel Riu Negril.

I didn't know the distinction at the time until arriving in customs, but I was staying at the Hotel Riu Negril \"Club\". There is a separate \"Palance\" resort. However, I liked very much the Club resort, as it was recently renovated.

The room was super clean and spacious with everything as advertised. The beach was in very good condition considering the hurricane was just 90 days prior. The staff, as the natives in Jamaica always are, was amazing. The reason we come to Jamaica every year is because the people are friendly and welcoming. You can't possibly pay them enough ! if I had any complaints which I really don't , I'd say the food at your restaurants is sub-par. The steakhouse cut was too thin and not very good quality steak. The Italian lasagna was not good at all. Stouffer's frozen lasagna is just as good. Also the venue for the Italian place lacks any character and suffers from the lack of fresh air. It has a great location looking over the beach, but it needs more ambience. The voices bounce off the windows, and it is unpleasantly loud.

The entertainment crew was phenomenal, the pools were refreshing, and the food was pretty good. Gorgeous and pretty large beach area. In a little cove area so barely any waves. If you like being in the Ocean- this is the place. Bring along those hammock floaties and before you know it a whole afternoon has passed!

I would like to share my recent experience at the RIU Ocho Rios hotel in Jamaica.
I originally booked a flight and accommodation package at the RIU Negril through the Expedia app. This booking was made prior to Hurricane Melissa, which devastated parts of Jamaica in October 2025. With my travel dates set for December 24–29, 2025, and given my tendency toward anxiety, I contacted RIU customer service several months in advance to inquire whether the RIU Negril had been affecthurricane and whether I should consider canceling or switching hotels. I was assured confidently during the call that everything was fine and fully operational, and that I could proceed with my plans to enjoy the RIU Negril.
Reassured by this, I looked forward to my trip and the renowned beach in Negril. However, about a week before departure, I received an email from Expedia stating:
“Due to technical issues beyond our control, the Hotel Riu Negril, located in the Negril area, will be temporarily closed. Our technical team is already working to restore the hotel’s operations as quickly as possible, ensuring the high standards of quality that characterize RIU Hotels & Resorts.
To minimize any inconvenience and ensure an experience even better than originally planned, we are pleased to inform you that we have arranged alternative accommodation options at other RIU hotels. These arrangements will maintain the same conditions confirmed in your original booking at no additional

DO NOT BOOK at RIU Negril, Jamaica – A Horrible Guest Experience

I checked into RIU Negril on Monday, August 29. On the morning of October 2, I woke up covered in numerous bug bites, many in linear patterns, which is consistent with bed bugs. As the day progressed, the itching became unbearable and I counted over 25 bites on different parts of my body.

I reported the issue to the front desk on Thursday evening, and after some back and forth, I was moved to a different room. I was told an inspection would happen Friday morning. It’s now Sunday, I left the establishment yesterday and still have not heard from RIU nor Expedia. There has been zero follow-up from hotel staff.

When I voiced my concerns at the front desk again, I was told to send yet another email to RIU’s complaints department – the third one – and was informed that staff could no longer assist me. Despite clearly showing them the bites and asking for help, I was told nothing could be done until after the inspection, which still hasn’t happened. I even had to request bags to seal my belongings in hopes of preventing bringing the infestation home.

I’m currently in severe discomfort, and the hotel has been completely unresponsive and dismissive. The customer service at RIU Negril is appalling, and I wouldn’t recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed at Sandals in June, and the contrast in service and professionalism is night and day. At Sandals, I felt cared for. At RIU Negril, I feel ignored and disrespected

Recentley stayed at Hotel Riu and I have to say, the resort itself was beautiful. The cleanliness was top-notch, the staff were friendly, and the amenities were truly wonderful. From the pools to the bar options, it had all the makings of a great vacation. However, I was really disappointed and frustrated with an issue that put a damper on my stay—especially since one of the affected days was my birthday. The air conditioning in my room broke down for two full days. After being out all day on excursions, I returned to find the floor of my room soaked with water due to the AC leaking. The water stretched from the entryway all the way under the bed, making it impossible to walk around and get ready comfortably.I called reception 2–3 times that evening, requesting someone to come clean up the water. We were told that staff were aware and that someone would be sent to take care of it. Unfortunately, no one ever came. We had to spend the entire night in a hot, wet room with no air conditioning and a puddle of water under the bed.
The next morning, the AC was still broken, and the water was still there. It wasn’t until we called again—twice—that someone finally came to address the issue. I understand that we were told the AC problem was happening in “several rooms,” but even if the system couldn’t be fixed right away, the water should have at least been cleaned up in a timely manner. This is a beautiful place to visit and the private pool, especially if you’re located at the end of the beach is the best! Most of the staff were so nice and pleasant except for one of the asst. manager’s or he may be a manger at one of the restaurants by the name of Chad. He’s so disrespectful to his female staff. Hopefully his boss that he was walking around holding hands with 👀 will do something or say something to him to make his approach better. Other than that, I would totally recommend this place. It’s clean, beautiful, right on the beach with a wonderful view of the water, there’s entertainment and plenty of food. I will definitely be going back. Had a great time. Thank you!

We enjoyed the hotel and staff. Service was good. Disppointed that no reservations were available during our stay except the steakhouse so we could only eat at the buffet. We would not have booked through Expedia had we known we could not use our credit. We would have gone thru Costco where we could use our reward. We had a $652 credit that was useless unless we wanted to shell out more money. We did all inclusive to not pay more. We feel the credit is dishonest. To go to get a massage we would have had to pay $138 per person after using a small portion of the credit. That isn't a credit. Going thru Costco next time where we get 2 percent back as well as Costco cash.

I liked everything about the hotel only exception is having to do the stairs all the time no option of an elevator especially when you have your luggage. I know there are some men available who can assist you could at least have an elevator on each of the buildings. Another thing the availability of towels that we use when we go to the pool and ocean. Otherwise from these two everything was excellent. Food exceptional bed very comfortable.

Someone entered my room while I was away for breakfast, security was called but I was not given a report from the investigation. Therefore the building is not safe anyone can enter your room and the security team will not do anything about it.
And when booking for a family room I paid for my 10yr son with Expedia up on arrival I was told my son was not paid for therefore I had to pay for him again at the resort.

Upon entrance a server came with drinks for us while we checked in. The reception was very polite and professional I think her name is Shannoy. She explained everything we needed to know thoroughly. And throughout the stay the reception desk was exceptional. Except for that one time I needed to make some tea for my mom because she felt ill, and someone at the front desk stated that a $20 USD deposit is needed to get a kettle. I thought that was crazy, but after explaining the situation they gave me without charge. The distance to our room was lengthy and tiring for my mom over 60 and even for me. There is no elevators but they need to have some other means of way to take persons to and from the main area to the rooms. The biggest issue we had was with the taxi drivers at the front of the property. Extorting and terrorising people, one was very rude to us, after we stated we were waiting on a shuttle and wouldn’t need a taxi. Iv come to realise alot of guests(mostly females) complaining about these taxi men. And it made us all very disturbed and scared. The securities at the game seem to not mind them harassing guests. Immediate action needs to taken for that particular situation!!. Aside from those issues, great staffs, clean, relaxing and convenient location.

The resort looks nice. The beach looks nice. The staff is so so. They are rude. The beach initially looks beautiful. Calm waters because of the bay but it is seaweed everywhere and it’s not actual sand in the water. It’s some kind of black soft sludge that feels weird.

The rooms are too far from everything else. The resort allows outsiders to sell items on the beach. Many people were selling illegal drugs. The area surrounding the resort is destitute and unsafe.

The worst experience I had there was the cleaning lady ignored me when I didn’t want her to clean my room while I was in there. She came in anyway and started to clean even after me telling her to leave. Extremely rude. I hated it there so much I left early.

There are many other places to visit. I would never go there again and would never recommend. The staff are not welcoming.

Our stay was ok at best. The food was an hit and miss, mostly misses. Also there’s something annoying about getting the fridge restocked and having service rendered when called upon. The room attendants are some of the hardest workers I have ever seen so let’s give credit where it’s due. The hotel can definitely use a broader range of entertainment and the drinks taste different I might add. Overall I think you guys can do much better with the right game plan. Overall my wife and two kids had “OK” fun and ok is just not good enough. Maybe in the future we’ll try a different location.

Stay at RIU Negril – Disappointed Overall

My experience at RIU Negril was, unfortunately, underwhelming. Communication before arrival was very poor. I made specific requests for a special occasion, and despite multiple attempts to follow up, I never received a response. This lack of engagement set the tone for the stay.

Upon arrival, the location of the rooms was far from ideal—quite a distance from the main dining areas, lobby, and entertainment, with no elevators and several stairs to navigate, making it inconvenient, especially for anyone with mobility issues.

The food across the resort was mostly mediocre. Many of the items were lukewarm, with limited made-to-order options. The overall quality and flavor were disappointing, with the exception of the steakhouse, which was by far the best meal I had during my stay.

The WiFi was weak and unreliable, which made it difficult to stay connected. The hotel’s app was not functioning properly during my visit, causing me to miss out on restaurant reservations for the specialty dining options. Additionally, there was no room service available for food, which was another letdown.

On a positive note, the customer service staff was friendly and courteous throughout the stay. However, the resort lacked amenities and activities that are typically expected at an all-inclusive destination.

We got a room for 3 people…. We checked in on Monday we asked for wash rags for 3 people n for our entire stay we only got 2 rags….every time we ask they only gave us 2 rags…. Our room had cockroaches… none of the restaurants served alcoholic beverages only beers or wine… don’t understand why it’s an all inclusive when you can’t get what you paid for…..met very few people who know how to talk to guests of the resort…food was not good…cleanliness was subpar … a dirty cleaning rags was left on our belongings in our room….there was feces in the hallway for 2 days…

The friendliness of the staff/service workers/etc. was not upto par of that of other Caribbean island hotels. There was a lack of feeling of homeliness or welcoming that you should get when you are on vacation. We felt it was a combo of how RIU trains their staff and the environment in Negril because we were very happy with the non-RIU hotel experiences in Ocho Rios and Montego Bay. Also, the vegetarian options for dinner were very limited at the specialty restaurants. Our room was ready 40 minutes after check-in time. Our luggage took an hour to be brought up once we got into our room because of miscommunication on the part of the staff. The A/C was not working in one of the rooms, until the last day. We are usually not complainers, but this was subpar for an international chain hotel.
