The room wasn't well soundproofed, and it was still noisy until midnight. There was no fan in the room, and the central air conditioning wasn't strong enough, so it was hot all night. I don't know if it was mosquitoes or fleas, but I woke up the next day with eight bites that were extremely itchy and uncomfortable. If you just want a cheap place to sleep, this is a good option, but otherwise, definitely choose another hotel.

The room was disgusting. Room clearly hasn’t been cleaned including the bedsheets. The staff were miserable. The lock on our room door wasn’t secure (someone had clearly tried to ethier break into the room previously or struggled to get into the room). Wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone even though it is cheap

Location is great, but the receptionist wouldn't offer you anything unless you ask: towel, cutlery, plate & cup. My room, with its window facing the fire exit area was noisy on some early mornings because of rubbish trucks picking up rubbish containers, cleaners dumping rubbish bags running up and down the fire exit stairs. I also was awakened by sound of vacuuming and shouting past midnight. Though the kitchen was clean, it had only one kitchen knife and one peeler, sometimes one plate or one bowl, no cups. I believe was bitten by bed bugs, as I have no alternative explanation for the itchy bites I got on the 1st night and was progressively getting more every night.

Curtains broken, smelled of stale cigarettes, near broken lock on room door. Generally gross and disgusting apart from the bathrooms which were clean. Do not stay here, mostly booked for longterm for homeless people. Recent bedbugs in reviews I wouldn't risk it.

If you are after the cheapest room in Melbourne City, then this is the hostel for you. The single room was basic, but fine for the price. Very convenient with a tram outside on Elizabeth St. The kitchen, toilets and bathrooms were filthy, so wear shoes inside these areas.

While I knew this was a very cheap option, my stay would have been a lot better if the place wasn’t filled with cigarette smoke - the smell of cigarettes and weed was so strong in the room it woke me up, I’m an ex smoker myself so don’t have an issue with smoke, but it was so strong and there weren’t any windows to open to air it out - plus there was a guy in one of the rooms just shouting all night. Appreciate it’s a cheap option, which the room reflects that but the smoke was too much

Me and my friend arrived an hour early before check in and they let us put our bags in this little room in the lobby. My friend felt something was off and when we left to have lunch I read the reviews and regretted doing so as it made me extremely anxious - one review said someone was watching them sleep and all their bags had been rummaged through.

After lunch I ran straight back to the hostel which was only 10min before check in now and noticed my bag had been moved and my neck pillow lying on the floor when it had been on the handle of my suitcase. I checked my bags and nothing had been touched thankfully so I thought someone probably moved it to get to a bag behind it.

We were able to check in 10min early. Everyone should note THERE IS ONLY STAIRS. 3 floors no elevator. You will have to drag your heavy bags up the stairs, I was on the third floor.

Room was small with a fridge, two chairs and a table, a mirror, a fan and a bunk bed. It looks very old but seemed clean enough.

There was a leak in the roof that was dripping into one of the chairs and made the room smell musty.

Overall, my stay wasn’t bad. Though we had some dodgy neighbours, nobody entered our room, we made sure the door was locked when we left or went to sleep. The toilets are due for a renovation but they are kept clean enough.

So don’t let the bad reviews freak you out - as long as you are making sure the door is locked and taking safety measures you’ll be fine

For God’s sakes read online reviews before booking, this was a mistake I made. IT IS NOT WORTH IT even if you’re pinching pennies, immediately left after one night and moved to a different hostel, and BE WARNED, NO AIRCONDTIONING or even a fan so it was hotter than hell during my stay. The window was open so you could hear all of the traffic and shouting outside.

I had a horrible stay. BED BUGS, knife threats, and in rude staff. The check in was rude and I was treated like I was an inconvenience. Later that night my roommate came in and said that some just threatened the front desk with a knife and two cop squadrons were sent in! I was terrified to leave my room. My roommate was smacking in the room and I later found out the cops didn’t arrest the guys who were threatening people with knife’s they just let them stay. Oh and Best of all, I got eaten by BED BUGS.

Don’t not book! Even if it’s cheap!

Do not stay here. It’s more of a homeless shelter than hostel. The photos make it look clean but it is anything but. There are drug addicts here who will try and open your door. Didn’t even stay for 1 hour. The receptionist is unbelievably rude and unprofessional. If you book here your company is people who don’t mind living in their own filth. The room I got had faeces on the wall and the smoke alarm was ripped open and batteries stolen. After everything only staying for 1 hour I was denied a refund for my stay. Absolutely disgusting and horrendous. Please stay away.

Despite the best efforts of the staff, this place was completely compromised by the clientele. Recently renovated bathrooms were left in an appalling state by those using and I saw faeces in places I have never seen it before in my life. It's a shame because the hostel is well located and the staff were friendly and helpful.

We were allowed to check-in 4 hours early. Really great!

The hotel is definitely not as bad as some of the reviews are stating.
However there's still room for improvements :)
The male toilets were disgusting and ran out of toilet paper during the night.

If price is your only concern then by all means stay. Expect no amenity. No towels, no toilet paper, loud music being played late at night and noisy guests moving around constantly. At least they could install some sharps bins so loose needles weren’t put in random places

I’ve since spoken to people who have had items stolen and the management are aware and just let it happen. Please pay that little bit more and go somewhere else

The photos on the web are not at all like the hostel. Broken handles in bathroom's and the looks likeno care is taken with all the graffiti on the walls. Bathroom smelt of smoke. It had permanent resident's and kept awake the second night by drunks having an emotional fight. I felt unsafe.

Run down hovel. Room condition was beyond bad. Patched walls, power points loose in walls, condition generally terrible. Door on room barely closed it had been broken and repaired so many times. Toilet facilities horrible. Broken seat, water flowing from toilet onto bathroom floor and excrement caked everywhere. A toilet on an Indian train would be better. Noisy to the point of not being able to sleep. Drunken yahoos outside on the street carrying on all night and sketchy drug/drunk or otherwise unreasonably noisy fellow patrons. The only positive thing to say it was a roof over my head. But otherwise no safer, quieter or pleasant than being on the streets

Chose to stay here for a couple of night as it was budget friendly. But it smelt of stale smoke, and cabbage. Ladies shower door broken, and the smear of blood on the wall of the loo betrayed a second rate cleaning schedule - It was there when we arrived, and still there as we were checking out two days later. I felt unsafe. There was fresh offensive grafitti each day, and my partner reported that there was fresh vomit in the sink in the men's on our second morning though, so there's that. I got told to \"F-Off\" by a stranger after filling my drink bottle in the communal kitchen. The kitchen facilities seemed OK though. Was a bit of an experience and memorable, but will not repeat. The check in was easy, and the desk staff were genuinely lovely people... But the vibe of the place was pretty sleazy. Hope this helps someone avoid our mistake.

After booking a Double Room with desk and refrigerator upon check-in I was assigned a room with 3 double bunk beds, no desk, no refrigerator. The room was on the top of four floors with no lift - a challenge with luggage at the best times. Returning to reception to hopefully correct the room allocation mistake, the receptionist said that was the correct room after which I showed her the listing in Hotels.com which she said was outdated (the listing is the same on all sites)and after a series of phone calls I was allocated the room I had booked. I cancelled the remainder of my booking and have chosen to stay at The Village Melbourne which is far better value & standard for about the same price.

The location was good and convenient to transport and food. However the cleanliness has to improve. I feel the bedsheets and pillow case was not clean enough. And there is no wifi in the room ..if you have to use the internet, you have to go to the lobby. Some residents did not go to the lobby for the wifi but instead slept on the sofa and occupy the space. This ought to be disallowed.

I stayed a week and extend it for another week because of only one reason. Accessibility to Central Business District and places to eat. It wasn't a pleasant stay with people fighting almost every night and bullying other guests. Drinking in the rooms were tolerated causing unpleasant stay because of the noise. I requested to be moved to other room but was charged extra cost. Still the same environment. I never been to prison but it feels like you are staying in one. Sorry to say this but I think the sentiment is also felt by other guests.

It’s very cheap and has been located in city centre. Tram station is in front of the place so we can get on the tram very easy. Toilets always clean and aren’t smelly. Anyway it’s worth staying here.

We arrived in our room to find the bed sheet to look unclean with a fair size oil stain on it. The room was right on Elizabeth st causing it to be a noisy location. I wanted a refund which they wouldnt provide as they said I had to claim through wotiff. To top it off we paid 110 and could have got it for 100 if we paid on arrival.

Hostel is too grandiose term, flophouse would be my description. I didn't expect a lot as this private room was the cheapest in Melbourne CBD. Despite me setting the bar very low, this 'hostel' failed to even attempt to reach this level. The rooms were disgustingly dirty, the bathrooms worse. You know you are in a low class establishment when the toilet is worse than a train station loo and there is an itemised list on the wall of the cost of each item you break.

There was meant to be a food box and utensils provided for each room but I was told they should be in the TV room but they weren't so, even though I told staff I didn't have any and checked every day I still didn't get any. Every other hostel I have been to has provided tea, coffee, sugar, salt and pepper in the kitchen.
The kitchen was locked when I went down during the night to make myself a drink!!!

It's a very good location its just 40 minutes away from the airport (bus and train) opposite in Victoria market and a minute walk in the tram. Very affordable and no fan in the room but its fine for me because its very cold in the night, bathroom are clean no wifi in the room and kitchen is bit dirty..
