Staff support was disappointing. A request for bath towels at 8:00 a.m. was delayed until 9:30 a.m. The TV remote in our room was not working due to dead batteries, and despite reporting this by phone and at reception, the request was not communicated and we were asked to wait. Additionally, even though we kept the key cards away from our phones as instructed, all three cards eventually stopped working.

First room I was given (10.02) was facing a wall of concrete, and the bathroom fan (very loud) couldn't be switched off. And no chairs viable to sit and operate a laptop from (back support missing). Contacted front desk and was told most rooms are like this due to other buildings either side = no views!
Messaged Hotels.com support and was changed to another room the next day (10.09) which had nice open views, and a good desk chair and single sofa (also with great back support). So not all rooms are remotely the same in terms of furnishings.
The second room also had the loud bathroom fan on 24x7, however the shower was L shaped, so the noise was somewhat masked. Both rooms with the door closed, the fan was loud enough to interrupt sleep, and couldn't be turned off. Easy to hear people walking the corridors, and the ceiling above.
Plus wise it was very clean, and staff did their best with prompting. Location is also excellent right next to the market. Instant coffee was all Nescafe which tells you a lot too, no effort to dress the place up. Very basic.
If you're a heavy sleeper, and just need a place to stay, it's ok for a few nights.

Whist this is an older motel it was suitable for my needs
Fresh bed and towels/clean shower with nice products Tv coffee etc
Close to Victoria market and tram service
Sometimes you just need a clean safe place to shower ,sleep and return to after a day of exploring without the high expense of other more fashionable motels

This was my worst hotel experience so far.
After checking in (for 4 days) and getting to my room, I came back down to let the hotel receptionist there was a horrible sewer gas smell in my room. His answer “sorry, we are fully booked for the next two days”.
I figured the smell was coming from the bathroom, so I had to brace myself each time I went in there. The rest of the time I had the bathroom door closed (it helped a lot).
I’ve requested a room change on day 2, but got the exact same answer.
I definitely do not recommend this hotel.

Room was clean though the couch looked a bit rough and carpet looked like it needed a deep clean.
Bathroom and shower were excellent. Kitchen was good.
TV was an big issue for me. It wouldn't connect to a channel until I had to switch the mains power off to the room and back on again to get it to connect (I did this as per concierge advice), sometimes I had to run through this process 2-3 times before I got a a channel. When I say A channel, that's what I meant, I only had a choice of one channel. On top of that, my friend is registered deaf, she can hear with special hearing aids but likes the text on when watching TV and even that didn't work, so that aspect dampened an otherwise good experience.

The property was good. Room is exactly as is shown on images which is great. Nice size, not too large, but just good. Bathroom and kitchen well designed and planned. Location of this place is great. Close to all things CBD with a tram stop at very first corner.

I and my partner totally regretted that we booked here. Worst experience ever. We were confident in checking-in because it's Mercure. Howeve, when we got inside the hotel room, the tv was not functioning, the air conditioning iwas not responding and worst of all, we could hear footsteps fron the occupants of the upper floor. As a result, we were not able to sleep properly because we were awakened from the noise and footsteps from the upper floor. I went downstairs in the reception to cancel our booking for the rest of the days, but the receptionist advised that he won't be able to cancel since we're booked via Expedia. He told me to contact Expedia instead. He offered to transfer us to another room, but I refused since it'll just be the same as all their rooms have no proper soundproofing. To be fair with him, he also offered to fix the tv snd airconditioning, bui I refused since my mind was already made up to cancel the rest of the booking. So I called Expedia to cancel and they're willing to cancel provided that the property manager would agree. So Expedia contacted the property manager but the property manager declined to refund us for the cancellation. I and my partner decided to just leave the hotel the next day even though we won't be refunded for the rest of the days. We just wanted to book for another hotel so we could sleep properly over the weekend. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. One of the worst experiences.

Good to rest your head; a bit dusty.

Our room was a good place to rest your head for the night, but not somewhere enjoyable to spend for some down-time if wanting to relax in the hotel room. Possibly because these are the business suite rooms, so only have the bed, armchair and desk chair. Whilst the room appeared quite clean, we noticed our devices would be covered in dust in the mornings upon waking - unsure whether this is from the AC or generally a dusty room. My partner's asthma flared up quite badly from being in the room. Whilst we didn't have a bad experience at this hotel, we will be staying elsewhere when we next visit Melbourne (and likely closer to the CBD or South Melbourne, rather than more northern Melbourne/Chinatown as we were this time). Daily room service was lovely, and the girls at reception upon checkin were very friendly and helpful.

Great that it was located next to the Queen Victoria Market (great coffee and breakfast/brunch for under $20). Wouldn’t recommend getting the tram along Elizabeth street with luggage though, that route is cram packed any time of day or night.

We have arrived after midnight,our room was in a poor condition,dirty and making us feel insecure.Water was heavily dripping from the shower exhaust fan.
The hotel worker was ignoring this issue and also refused to turn the fan on.
He new about the risk ,no good where electricity and water get in contact.
He told us to stay in the room until next day or he will refund our money and we can get out.
It was after midnight, this behaviour was unexceptionable.He also told us that they didn’t have Moore vacate rooms.
We asked him how he can be so ignorant about this problem ,after this stressful time he has put us into a different room.
Condition of this one was disappointing,dirty door handles,mould /fungus growing in the bathroom was creating lots of stress.Carpet not vacuumed.One months ago I have requested deep clean room.Very scary,because everyone does know about
how Covid-19’s can spread and what fungus can do and dust can do to people with allergies.Next day more friendly staff promised to get read of the fungus,but nothing was done.More worst because the attitude of the hotel staff was more verbally abusive,also physically pointing into my wife face and using louder voice .
It was very upsetting and I feel strongly we should be paid all our money back.
This hotel should have completely new change over with staff who should be trained to do the jobs ,solving problems and understanding the importance of clean and safe environment.Marian

Swapped from and original booking of twin beds to a queen and a rollout. The rollout mattress was terrible- soft and unsupporting despite them telling me it was a single bed mattress- now way!
Upgraded carpet but all through the hotel there were paint scuffs and chps in walls and things not done properly. Needs a maintenance person to go around and fix all these small things which make the hotel look shabby. The front door had a wood panel which was left open as a result all day and night. Was not fixed in the 3 days we were there

I am not sure how to review this property. Staff members were helpful and friendly. The reception area feels like you can rent the rooms by the hour. Upstairs the ambience is a mis of trying to make it look classy but with every expense spared. Room was ok but single beds made me feel like a child and although recently refinished, everything felt cheap. Area can be a bit dodgy at night. I likely would not stay there or any Mercure again.

Terrible Sound Proofing & Bad heater

You will constantly know someone above you are walking by the thumping footsteps sound due to the bad sound proofing. If they wake up early or stay up late, Good Luck! Booked 2 nights and I am not a light sleeper but they still manage to wake me up. I slept late and was dead tired on my first night and wanted to wake up late the next day but was woken up at around 830am with very loud vacuum like sound that lasted very long. On my 2nd night, was horrible...having a hard time to fall asleep due to the constant thumping sound and noise from corridor. When I finally fall asleep but was woken up at 2am by the loud fire engine or ambulance siren (no fault of theirs) but i am on the 10th floor and the sound can be heard loudly!
I guess the sound woke the guest staying above me that I hear constant thumping footsteps again.....When I woke up at 430am to catch my flight, I am literally tiptoeing not wanting to disturb the below unit.

You can easily hear the conversations in other hotel rooms while walking along the corridor too.

The room heater is lousy. it takes more than 1hr 30mins for it to feel it.(is winter)

No issues with the staff, room cleanliness and comfort.of the room but the sound proofing is a no-no for me.

Hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The heater in my room was insufficient in winter as there were aircon valves throughout the hotel which led to our room being really cold. Cleanliness is ok. Good location, easily accessible via multiple trams, queen vic market and several supermarkets.

We had a great stay and would stay again, but guests should note that room was quite small (because we had a rollaway bed) meaning there was no space at all for our suitcases. In saying that, it had a great little kitchenette which was great, with good bench space. No food options, but plenty nearby. The most outstanding thing about our stay was the staff… SO helpful and we were really grateful for their care and genuine friendliness and assistance! Car park VERY tight, would not recommend entering with 4WD vehicles even though it’s high enough.

Room smelt like stale takeaway curry, made worse when you opened the fridge to the smell of weeks old off milk and windows that don’t open. Non existent room service for the first 3 days, despite reception telling me they had definitely been working. A woman checking out congratulated me for saying something. She hadn’t had her room cleaned either. Had to ask for toilet paper and fresh towels. When they did come on day 4 it was at 5pm.
I had booked a week super cheap so checked out early and found something nicer for the rest of the week. I certainly wouldn’t pay expensive last minute prices for this hotel. It’s seen better days. Restaurant is shut up. Clean small rooms (when they don’t smell) But I found this hotel dingy and dark and struggling to operate under the strain of COVID caused shortages.

Would have liked to know before confirming booking that the restaurant was not operating, although in the event this was easy to work around. No Houskeeping, no open resturant, no parking- or reduced cost of closest parking, which was $50 per night, a lack of overall upkeep and maintenance of the entire hotel - stained carpets, dirty reception area, elevators in need of repair and clean . I understand things have been tough in Melboune Due to Covid Restriction, but when you book a 4 star hotel you have certain expectations.
