I had a few issues with the stay. At first I was given a key to a dirty room. It took some time to finally get a key to a clean room. I was in a bit of a hurry so this was an inconvenience. Then the air conditioner in the room was extremely noisy. It was really difficult to sleep with the noise. It would have been nice to know in advance so that I could have brought ear plugs. The hotel is beautifully remodeled, now you just need to fix the air conditioners and you’ll have an amazing hotel.

Sonesta Hotel renamed The Grand, we were not told. We were approached by a woman panhandler upon our arrival. Hallwayto room had strong mechanical smell. Room had worn carpet with ripples. Windows dirty. Furniture dented, worn and viiynyl desk chair upholstery was peeling and flaking off.comforter on bed was as thin as a sheer. I brought a throw in from my car to get warm. Sheets were worn and looked like someone had slept on them before me. Bathroom had minimum towels, one thin, small wafer of soap at the sink and no drinking glasses. I had to use a paper coffee cup. The toilet paper roll sat on the small sink counter, no toilet paper holder.The wall shelf above the toilet was empty, no extra towels. This was a suite room. Hardly. The \"kitchenette\", was a counter with a small fridge below and a microwave above.the cabinets were empty. One of the worst places I have stayed in.

Our bedding (box spring cover)was disgusting. Spoke with cleaning lady who was very kind and changed bedding. The first night, the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. We only had one wash cloth, no hand towels in our room, asked for more but they didn't have any to give.
The second morning, we woke up to no water! Didn't get water before having to check out. Stopped at front desk to talk to manager and was told there wasn't one there. I asked for a number and he said he would give me the hotel number and a name. The name doesn't match the name on the email I got. I did try calling hotel but didn't get an answer, sent to voice mail box that was full, so no way to contact hotel.

On check in the 3 staff members seemed like they had never worked at the hotel before and it was a very slow process. There was a single bar of soap for the room and no other toiletries. Lastly, for 3 hours on our check-out morning we were without hot water and weren’t able to shower. Would not recommend a stay here.

We returned this year (2026) with the kids because we had a pretty nice time last year (2025) when we stayed here for the Lantern Festival. The pool was ok, kids said the water was cold. The hot tub was ok, jets were not working. No towels available in pool area, you have to rent them at the front desk and return them when you are done or else it’s $10 each extra on top of what you are already paying. This year, we were told the bar & kitchen was closed due to renovations. There was hot coffee which we did not partake. Last year the bar & kitchen was open but everything was expensive and there is no complimentary breakfast included with the room pricing. The mattress was kind of lumpy and just made us miss our memory foam at home! On top of that, our first night there, the fire alarm went off at 1am and fire trucks came but nobody was able to tell us anything about what was going on. All of our lives were at stake and we couldn’t get an answer about anything. We ended up not being able to go back to sleep because we didn’t know if everything was really ok. Overall, we probably will not be staying here again when we go back for the Lantern Festival next year (2027).

We booked the Sonesta hotel months ago and when we arrived, it was no longer a Sonesta. There were no amenities provided in the hotel room (not even hand soap). The shower was dirty. The restaurant, bar, and breakfast area were all closed. Staff were kind, but seemed very overworked and overwhelmed. The pictures and description of the hotel did not match at all.

We made our reservations in February and the hotel had a different name. All of the pictures on the booking page are very deceiving. There was no restaurant, no bar, no breakfast…..room was filthy, no blow dryer, half roll of toilet paper, dirty curtains, room hadn’t been vacuumed in months it looked like. Will be filing a complaint. Completely false advertisement!!!!!

We had a crazy experience with our last visit; their card reader was messed up, and we were charged twice for our stay. The staff was very apologetic and did everything possible to attempt to correct the issue. Unfortunately, during the process of trying to correct the issue, our card was overcharged multiple times. The staff and management were very apologetic and worked very diligently to correct the mistake. They also gave us a $90 credit towards our stay and gave us a free stay for our next visit. The entire staff was great and very helpful. This situation was obviously not something we expected to happen, and thankfully, my husband, the staff, and I handled it with grace and were able to get everything resolved promptly. The rooms were very clean, the hot tub was nice and warm, and we had zero issues with noise. The beds are very comfortable. I do wish our room had a microwave so we could have heated our leftovers from lunch, but other than that, we will stay here again, even without the free room.

When I walked in, they said that I had a handicap room and I said no one don’t need a handicap room that I got to the room and then there was a shower and I was expecting a bathtub so they switched me rooms. I got to the new room and it was gross there was nasty things on the counter from not being cleaned up. The bathtub was disgusting. It had peeling paint or ceramic it smelled like urine. It had hair on the toilet. The pool was open, but it was being worked on and not ideal to even go for a swim. I went to open the curtain. The curtain was not working and though windowsill was absolutely gross. What I couldn’t close the curtain to block out the light at night so I could have a good night sleep very disappointed in the day for sure.

Door to room was very difficult to open. Room was smaller then expected. TV had its moments of not working. The restaurant/bar was being renovated, so no food at all. Which there should be a discount for that!! Pool area was okay. Don't know if they r taking down the slide or putting it up. Looks sketchy.. Most of the staff is nice. 1 older gentleman just not a ppl person. And when we left at 5am, that person didnt get off the couch. Lol. Real ppl!!
Pool towels are at the front desk, gotta sign them out and return them or u get charged $10.
Lots of food around the hotel so there's that.. Hotel wasn't something to write about, it will do..

Picked the hotel because of great price and enough good reviews. Great location close to everything. They seem to be in a changeover in brand…there are a lot of renovations happening in the lobby and pool area (pool was open). Our room was clean, the beds were comfy and everything was functional. We were surprised that our room did not have an exterior window- the window looked out over the indoor pool. Upon entrance to the room it definitely smelled like chlorine from the pool, but we didn’t notice it much once we acclimated. The window definitely let in a lot of noise from the pool patrons- fortunately we aren’t super sensitive to noise. If I returned I would definitely ask for a different room- it just felt dark and disorienting not having an exterior window. Staff was super nice.

We booked a hotel with a pool, hot tub, and a bar. Having those 3 amenities were the main reasons we selected this hotel. The bar was not open either night we were there. That made it very inconvenient for us. The pool area was dirty and only one jet worked in the entire hot tub.

Then in our room the air conditioner did not work at all.
We were very disappointed and will not be back

Our flight had been canceled the previous day and, despite calling to notify we would miss our first night, but would still need the next two, we arrived the following night to be informed our room was canceled. After being put in a new room, we were awakened at 2 am to a person first attempting to get in our room, then security knocking on our door telling us we weren't supposed to be in that room. After calling the ront desk, they confirmed we were indeed registered guests and there was a mix up with room assignments. It was resolved, but my goodness, for tired travellers, it was a lot.

Hotel changed owners after I had booked, and I was informed on arrival they did not have breakfast available, which was a major reason we booked here. Hotel is also under construction, which they also do not have on the listing. As most of the area was booked up we decided to stay and we're eventually offered a partial refund. We have not yet received the refund but only checked out this morning.

We like that the family suite has room for six people, and it was fairly clean. The bathroom door is a bit awkward, and one of the cabinets was falling apart. We stayed three nights and had no housekeeping. The entire stay, even had to take our own towels down to the front desk to get clean towels. Overall this hotel just doesn't care for true customer service anymore.

Only thing I ain’t like was having to get pool towels from the front desk. Because I didn’t know! We got in the water and had to walk to the front desk wet and cold to get towels. Other than that. GREAT HOTEL IM STAYING HERE EVERY TIME IM IN GRAND RAPIDS.. ROOMS WAS CLEAN AND NICE. THEY GOT ONE OF THE BEST SHOWER HEADS I EVER SEEN WITH UNLIMITED HOT WATER.OMG WE SLEPT LIKE BABIES. The shuttle driver was very professional and everything went fast and smooth even through check in. Not many people were staying there because of the new ownership and switch over, but that did not keep the service from being top notch. I had a super quiet room and let me tell you that the workout facility is amazing. They even had a nice spinning bike , which is rare in hotels. And it was actually clean, which, again, gets overlooked in most places. I would definitely stay there again.

Long list of disappointments: I'll never stay here again (thumbs down). Rented this hotel for 4 days/3 nights for business purpose only.

Upon booking hotel online, it stated breakfast bar in main room was available and a room microwave was available. Yet, upon my arrival day of and during my stay, breakfast bar was never open/never in use and no microwave in room (only in main lobby, an inconvenience). Deceptive advertising right off the bat. I depend on breakfast bars in the mornings before my business to be conducted for the day, and the microwave for my dinner at night. Super not happy about that.

Too many shady ghetto characters renting the rooms, which makes it very uncomfortable and feeling unsafe for a lone female, like myself, to be staying at this hotel.

While toilet, bed and plumbing were updated/working great, tub was peeling, the room carpet was worn/dirty and the rolling office chair's fabric was disgustingly completely torn apart! How did hotel not see this?? Needless to say, wore my sandals the entire time, never walking barefoot on carpet (just yuck!). No bugs noted, after a thorough room search before settling in on my first night.

Hotel was clearly once a corporate-owned hotel: it is no longer. Hallways and hotel doors are all narrow, which made it difficult to transport my standard size cart of suitcases and DJ equipment. Staff at the front desk need to dress/act more professional: adds uneasy feeling of unstableness and safety. NOT RECOMMENDED.

We we unaware that the place was under construction, so bar and breakfast area were closed. Not sure if they were in the process of putting up or dismantling a water slide, but they could've done a better job keeping the area cleaner. One of our rooms bathroom fan would NOT shut off. When we reported it to the front desk, the lady brushed us off and said they've already had maintenance check it out several times, and maintenance could not figure out why it wasn't working. Very annoying when trying to sleep or relax. My mom's room had moldy blankets and staff took forever to vome and change them and get the dirty ones out of the room. Very disappointed in Sonesta. I expected much better. Other staff were very nice, however.

We stayed one night (Oct ‘25) at Sonesta Grand Rapids Airport and were pleasantly surprised, making a note to return on our next trip through Grand Rapids. This trip we got in at midnight on 4/28 & they still arranged a shuttle pick up for us at airport, then returned us early in a.m. to pick up a rental car. Great! We stayed 2 nights & when we checked out from the Sonesta on 4/30 we gave them a substantial list of repairs needed, including main door not closing all the way & opening very hard, the sliding bathroom door couldn’t open without lifting it if it was closed all the way, bathroom fan ran non stop, safe didn’t work, & other more minor problems. We had one more night booked on 5/9 - different room. We noticed no Sonesta sign out front. The front desk person indicated that it had changed ownership & had some other name on the sign, & was in process of changing 1 or 2 more times, recently purchased by the Choice Hotel chain, but he wasn’t sure when the hotel would be in their system. I felt I had to watch my cr card statement to be sure I got billed what I was quoted on internet. The room again was comfortable but this sliding bathroom door again would not open & I had to lift it completely off it’s flimsy metal track. I think Choice will have quite a few repairs ahead of them (the first I’d recommend is putting a traditional bathroom door in all the rooms. Otherwise a comfortable stay with good beds!

This hotel has the potential to be a great property. Unfortunately while we were there in May 2026 the hotel had just been sold and was changing management companies so things were lacking. The restaurant and bar were closed for renovation (but no work being done.) We were there three days and never saw a maid or a maid's cart anywhere. The pool was a little murky. The hallway carpets were sorely in need of replacement. The carpet in the room wasn't much better. But other than the carpet and the desk chair that needed to be replaced, the room was clean and satisfactory. The hotel is in a good location next to a mall with plenty of restaurants around (I recommend Anna's House for breakfast), about 15 minutes from the airport. The few staff that were there were outstanding and very helpful. After renovations are complete I would recommend this hotel.

The hotel is currently under renovation but it is being very poorly renovated. The quality of the materials and workmanship is bad. The hot tub is warm (not hot) and according to maintenance jets have not worked for 2 weeks with no plans for repair. The rooms are in bad disrepair and the hotel smells strange. Currently no breakfast and most amenities are either broken, being repaired, or unavailable. The hotel was recently bought out but all signs point to little to no improvement. The staff was not professionally dressed and with one exception did not exhibit very good customer service skills.
On a good note the water pressure is good and there was sufficient hot water. I would not recommend this hotel for anyone.

There was no breakfast available. The restaurant was closed. They ad prepackaged cereal bowls for sale -but no milk! They did, however have bottled beer available along with the cereal!!!!!
The carpeting was so filthy that my shoes made \"tacky\" noises when I walked across my room.
The upholstery on the chair in my room was literally torn off!
This place is a DUMP! Even the parking lot was in disrepair and garbage all over the place!
Do not ever send another Travelocity member to this place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A hotel I will not visit again! It was under construction. No coffee in the morning and Ng. Restaurant and bar closed. The hot tub had one (1) jet working and temperature of the water was cool! The rooms were clean. The beds had no blanket but a thin duvet lined with cotton balls inside that has been washed hundred times. Not a basic warm blanket. The bathroom was very modern and nice.!The curtains needed to be clean. Lastly I couldn’t get the TV channel selection. So, I gave up! Hope you find this helpful for future clients.!

The hotel was under construction. There was no carpet there was no restroom downstairs. That is pathetic considering what I paid for this room.

I should’ve been notified that this hotel was under construction when I made the reservation then I could’ve chosen a hotel that wasn’t in such poor shape

Why any hotel would choose to do construction in the springtime when people are actually traveling to Michigan rather than in the dead of winter when nobody’s traveling, I don’t know

And why they wouldn’t list on their site that they would be construction again I don’t know. I didn’t pay less because of it. I paid the premium rates for that room. There was no restaurants open. There was nothing.

Very disappointed in our stay here. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was clean but if I knew the restaurant and bar was no longer available, I wouldn’t have booked here. Check in is at 3pm and some of my friends couldn’t get in their rooms until after 5pm, the water slide was broken apart and not available, and the restaurant/bar was closed which was the only reason i booked here as we had a large group. We had to do the most just to be able to be together and then got talked to about a noise complaint after spending $800 for our group to stay there. I usually love this place but I won’t be back until the restaurant opens.

I booked this room specifically because it said it had a pool. So disappointed to go down to the pool in the am to find it closed- a crew working on the slide and no towels in sight. Very disappointing

W were told the hot tub would be working when we booked and we get thee wit wasn’t working the house keeper was rude when asked for a another set of towels the safe was taped shut the fridge had no adjustable up or down for the temp and our drinks froze.

The pictures of this property are not at all representative of the truth. This hotel smells, offers nothing except ice machines, carpets are disgusting, rooms are dilapidated, furniture is falling apart and literally everything needs to be updated. The pool is under construction (or possible deconstruction) and the hot tub is broken. Not that I would get in anyway! There is no door for the bathroom so there is zero privacy. Last and important, the hotel is not wheelchair accessible as advertised. All of the doors are not wide enough to fit a standard wheelchair. It is in fact NOT wheelchair accessible. The staff was kind and helpful but the hotel is a total wreck.

Staff is friendly, rooms are worn but clean. Restaurant/bar closed, pool area is nice but hot tub is closed and waterslide is being removed. Plenty of food choices are available in the area.

The room was very clean, yet I had a terriable experiance with my upgrade. I upgrated to a kitchenette, for a fridge and microwave. I also needed to boil some medical tea and dreaded taking the liquid on the plane (for fear it would be taken by TSA). So, days before my trip, I called customer service to see if I could boil the tea in the kitchennette. They said it would be a full kitchen with a stove and pots. Yet when I got there, there was no stove, no pots, and the staff was flipent about it, as if their customer service was not something they were responsible for. They made no apology or attempt to help me find a way to make my medicine. The kitchennette didn't even havd a towel by the sink, any dish soap, silverwear, or any dishes, a bowl or cup to boil water in. It was more like a family room suite, which I didn't need. Most hotels have microwaves and fridges in their regular rooms. I had to buy a kettle from a store nearby and leave it (donate it to the nearby college) because I couldn't take it home. And I have no way of asking for my money back for the upgrade because expedia does not list that price separately. I would not recomend staying here due to how rediculous the upgrade is, the trash can was even smaller in the kitchennette than the main room and the staff being flipant about it, not even apolojetic they couldn't help me, made this hotel a very inhospitable place.

Every staff member I interacted with was incredibly professional, helpful, and kind. They truly were the stand-out. However, I would never stay here again for a few reasons. Above all, our room was dirty and run down. There were broken hooks hanging off the wall, stains all over the furniture, stains and holes in the sheets and bedspread, and several bugs. Additionally, the inside of the windows and the area around the air conditioners were filthy. Beyond the cleanliness, the restaurant was closed for the duration of our stay. When we arrived, we were told that the restaurant and bar were closed for renovations - although there were no signs of renovations happening (nothing taped off, no signage, no one working on anything, etc.). This was particularly frustrating, because we chose a hotel that specifically had a restaurant, and not only was there no mention that the restaurant was closed when we booed there was also no mention of this on their site when I confirmed the hours of the restaurant less than 24 hours before we arrived.

I thought it would be ok to book for price, when my family arrived there was ants in the room. I called to main desk and asked if we could switch rooms because I mean who wants ants crawling around, they front desk staff no questions switched the room which was better. They offered a 15 gift card to Starbucks but it wasn’t a real Starbucks. If you just need a place to safely stay I would say ok for the price, but that was a one and done stay for me.

Used the airport shuttle, no issues. Coffee maker was pitiful. Breakfast was expensive and not open for long. Can’t comment on staff, hardly saw them.
