I stayed at Papagayo for 4 days with a group of six friends. Check-in was seamless, and thankfully, the concierge escorted us to our room. Since I was the one who selected the hotel, I made it a point to check out everyone’s rooms, and overall, they were very nice. The only thing I didn’t completely love was navigating the cobblestone walkways with a suitcase and while wearing heels, but we made it work.

Cleanliness: 6/10
This was one area where there was definitely room for improvement. Upon closer inspection, housekeeping could have done a more thorough job before our arrival. There were greasy fingerprints on the cabinets, mirrors, and other surfaces that should have been wiped down. The couches also had very noticeable stains—so noticeable that I chose not to sit on them during my stay. The ironing board could also benefit from routine inspection and cleaning when needed.

Comfort: 9/10
The comfort level was excellent. The bed and pillows were extremely comfortable, and I slept very well throughout the trip.

A few things worth noting:
* Face towels are not automatically provided; you’ll need to request them from the front desk.
* Air conditioning is connected to the doors and windows. If a door or window is left cracked open, the AC will shut off. Unfortunately, I learned this the hard way and ended up having one very uncomfortable night.
* If you’re visiting from the U.S., you’ll need an adapter for your phone and electronics.

Curacao Review – 3/10

I spent 7 days in Curaçao and, unfortunately, it was a very disappointing experience.

Starting with the hotel, it was okay, but the beach was extremely small and even the beach chairs had to be paid for separately. The customer service was terrible. The employee checking me in barely answered any questions, didn’t even say welcome, and seemed annoyed that I was asking basic information. When I asked where the best beaches were, the answer was simply, “here,” which was laughable. Communication was also difficult because I could barely understand what he was saying.

The food across the island was another major disappointment. It was extremely expensive and the quality was poor. I honestly spent more money eating mediocre food in Curaçao than I did partying in Ibiza. Restaurants charge first world prices while delivering a product that is far below that standard.

The mini markets are also a complete rip off. Everything feels overpriced, and after a week on the island, it felt like tourists were constantly being overcharged.

The beaches are nice, but that’s about where the positives end. The island depends heavily on tourism, yet many people seem uninterested in providing even basic customer service. After visiting more than 50 countries, Curaçao ranks near the bottom of my list.

Their \" beachfest\" the day we arrived was a very obnoxious loud rapper artist that went on till 3am, called reception at 1am , not helpful. This is a monthly event. No hot shower for 1st 3 days, staff was rude when repeatedly asked for them to fix it. They offered a late check out last day. Won't go back again. Too bad because location was great

I been coming for over ten years to this property and they didn’t offer me a late check out until 2 pm. They could have done it but they wanted to charge me. Also, the staff wasn’t helpful with that need. Make me think do they care more about charging 40 USD or keeping a client.

Our room was clean however there were so many items that needed to be handles. The shower drain was off, the fan for the bathroom was super small, the sink was very small, and there was only a thin blanket on the bed. The staff was great however the hotel itself is boutique so there are no elevators, just an FYI. There also is not a beach technically so that was disappointing.

The property was beautiful, well maintained and easy to navigate. The staff was always pleasant and helpful. The highlight of the property was the supermarket that is right underneath the hotel. It had everything you needed. Snacks, mixers for drinks, hot foods, etc. However the food was subpar. But there are food trucks less than 10 min away with a variety of choices at a reasonable price.

The Papagayo Hotel property was clean and well maintained. We got an ocean view room and enjoyed the balcony and view. The hotel has many amenities including being right on the beach. We were close to stores, restaurants, markets and more. Staff was friendly and the hotel was well designed. Loved our time will be back !

Papagayo was a clean and beautiful property. But be prepared to spend. There's no all inclusive feature. The pools were clean from what we could see, although this is not an adults only resort and there are kids everywhere so you never know how clean the pools really are. It's not close to many shop but if you venture off into town, it's $30 usd both round trip. There is a burger spot down the hill that I wish I knew about. they pretty much told us nothing was in walking distance and that's so you can spend at their resort. Food was good and so were the drinks. All and all a good trip

Stayed in the ocean front rooms and it was amazing! The staff are incredible and easy access and walking to restaurants. Loved the cabana at the beach, the pool area is quiet and relaxing, endless views of ocean. Classy modern mcm decor in the lobby, rooms are modern decor, groceries on site if needed. I am a solo traveler and when I arrived I had to carry my own bags to my room. There are no golf carts and I wasnt told until after taking my own bags to my room that they had people to take my luggage. I wish that service was offered to me. The first room I was given was so outdated. Wet mold spots on the wall paper, the lamp was broken and leaning on the curtain and there was a huge red stain in the sink along with stains on the toilet seat. The rooms were really outdated. They gave me another room and honestly there was the same issues. I just accepted it bcuz it was my birthday. The staff did not have my room decorated upon arrival although I called multiple times before I arrived to ensure my room would be decorated for my bday and they did it when I checked in so I had to wait to go in my room to change and enjoy my vacation bcuz they were still in my room. The manager resolved that issue with no problem. The last incident I had was at the bar. One of the young ladies was very snappy and rude her name was Anilka Garcia. She referred to me as her 'girl' multiple times and I had to remind her that we are not friends and how unprofessional it was. I requested her manager and he didnt do anything. I wont be staying here again.

Just don’t do it. I’ve tried to get this hotel removed from the site. We received a letter at check-in that a wedding shut down the beach club and infinity pool for our ENTIRE stay. The remaining amenities were worth half of our rate at best - management promised a partial refund to only dodge it and Expedia staff at every turn. Complete scam - room had many issues as well - don’t let them ruin your trip like ours.

A beautiful hotel with a great ambience, featuring rooms that are well positioned to face the pool area and offer lovely ocean views. The staff were friendly, and the room itself was clean and comfortable.

On the downside, the food was just average and could definitely be improved. There are a number of nearby restaurants perhaps I was unlucky where and when I had my meal.

I also experienced a delay on arrival, having to wait nearly 30 minutes as my room was still being prepared.

The hotel hosted a wedding during our week stay without notifying guest until arrival. The infinity pool, beach club, and restaurant was all closed during our stay during this event. On two different nights music was so loud it echoed our room until 2:30am. Staff did nothing to help make our stay better after multiple attempts to speak with managers. Paid thousands of dollars for a terrible hotel experience. Thankfully the island itself is beautiful and we spent our days exploring it.

I did get sick eating breakfast . So I didn’t enjoy that . The eggs or ham were clearly not the cleanest. Also , there was a wedding that I wasn’t informed of when I booked . So certain amenities were closed so I wasn’t happy about that, as well as many other guest , I would have liked to get a partial refund because I spent a lot of money to use certain services . They attempted to tell me I was allowed to sunbathe on my balcony to compensate but after many attempts calling , no one brought a chair to my room . Other than those things . Some people were friendly and most of the other food was good. .i did have a lovely view of the sunset from my room.

It was honestly so relaxing and such a vibe. I would definitely go again, and I love that the staff would go above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and heard. I recommend and I would say the WiFi was 10/10 since was able to work all around the villa virtually with no issues.
Air conditioning were running so good I had to turn it off at night to not freeze and the room was cute and clean on arrival.

I’d give this hotel an overall 2 out of 5. The location is pretty far from the main attractions, so it’s not the best choice if you’re looking for a good balance between nightlife and relaxation. The room also didn’t smell very pleasant, and several areas around the resort seemed broken or in need of maintenance.

The bed was uncomfortable since it was two twin beds pushed together, which made it hard to get a good night’s sleep. The staff overall wasn’t very friendly, but Kayla at the front desk was an exception—she was kind and helpful during my stay.

During my trip, I took a ride over to Kontiki/Mambo Beach, and that’s where I’ll be staying next time. The area had a much better vibe and was a lot more fun. Overall, this hotel was just okay, but I’d recommend looking closer to the beach for a better experience.

& MAKE SURE YOU GET A RENTAL IF YOU STAY HERE OR YOU WILL BE PAYING 30-40 dollars a ride!

Staff is amazing! Met us at the car, grabbed our bags for us, walked us to the counter and even offered us a cold towel to refresh ourselves! Check in was smooth and quick and they walked us to our room, told us where we could park and made sure we were happy with the room before leaving us. Room was spotless!! We told them it was our honeymoon and they had a bottle of wine waiting for us in the room. The stay was amazing! Tons of stuff to do around the hotel. Definitely will be back! 100% recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing stay in paradise

(+): Excellent staff; clean scented rooms; clean grounds; very good breakfast buffet; efficient and helpful staff in maintenance and at front desk. I asked for a tour of the property, so i can recommend the property, and i got a very nice tour.
(-): The property is ok. I have been in two rooms and they were scented with a different fragrance in each room. I didn't reserve a fragrant room. Its not healthy for me to sleep 8 hrs inhaling anything other than oxygen. In about 15 minutes my nose become desensitized to the fragrance and only when you go outside and return do you realize that the scent is still there. This olfactory fatigue is a no no for me, not to mention that when i got home, my clothes was infused with that fragrance.

I tried the restaurant's bar and ordered 'jerk chicken bowl' and 'grilled seabass'. I got a tea cup size of rice and twelve popcorn size pieces of plain chicken...not jerk chicken. The price point is 31.50 naf. The grilled sea bass dish was a tea cup of rice, tea cup of greens, and small pieces of a white fish covered with a white sauce. The fish wasn't grilled. The price point 42 naf. See image of receipt above. The price points for both items didn't match the portions, quality or taste. This is unacceptable.

The hotel needs more labeling on the buildings or the cobblestone. I was lost three times finding my way back to block 7...and i wasn't the only one.
Its an excellent place, for folks 25 to 45 years old..its an active space, IMHO.

Room was outdated and not as clean as it should’ve been. There are no elevators so we were going up and down 3-4 flights of stairs daily and with luggage. A staff member did help to bring bags up upon arriving. Other than that, our stay was fantastic!! Nice staff. Beautiful salt water pool with plenty of lounge seating. Several restaurants, shops and casino a few steps away! Super convenient and lively without being noisy. After 10pm things really settled down in the area. Great experience. Would highly recommend

We had a great stay! The rooms were modern, clean, and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with plenty of options, and the beach club was definitely a highlight.

The only thing that could be improved was the check-in process, which was a bit slow and not very organized. But overall, the hotel is great, and we would definitely stay here again!

I arrived September 17 stayed 8 nights nice receptionist very informative and easy to check in , property beach front access with a private pool also the one day before I left I noticed a little hidden beach access by the private pool , also nice ocean beach pool with a great bar and beach club they do nice drinks and spectacular sunsets , also there is a small supermarket just beside the hotel premises where I could get and adapter for my iPhone since it’s only European connections in the room plus they have a variety of drinks fruits snacks etc, hotel has its own restaurant papagayo beach club breakfast were great dinner only once was average , also they are several restaurants among of them I tried Zanzibar was ok , tintos was good also there is a shopping plaza where there was a great smoothie and snacks shop also saw a casino but did not go and a bar where they play music on Thursdays nights tried to go Friday but was closed also several restaurants near by of course you gotta drive among of them brisa do mar which was excellent if you into seafood , now about my room I just choose a patio view but upon arriving no privacy saw cars parked in front of my room never used the patio anyways but room is too dark one of the lights above the bed was out I called in said someone will check never got them fixed while over there , sometimes I felt a drop of water on my face was from the ac unit not great , the cleaning average they can do better

The property itself is beautiful with well-kept grounds, a great saltwater pool, and stunning ocean views. Parking was free and convenient, and the nearby plaza and grocery store were helpful. Unfortunately, the rooms were poorly lit, bathrooms showed discoloration and weren’t properly cleaned, and service was inconsistent at best. I often felt like I had to plead for solutions and was even debated with over issues that should have been resolved quickly. While a few staff members (Mark, Nedra, and Minako) were wonderful, overall hospitality felt uneven, and as a Black American traveler, I noticed others received better treatment. The final disappointment was having to drag my own bags down nearly five flights of stairs at check-out because no bellman was available. Beautiful views, but not an experience I’d return to or recommend.

Property grounds were ok but sand around rooms could have been cleaned, there were a lot of birds and iguanas looking for shade right in front of the rooms, the bed was motel vibes , hard with cheap bedding, if you sat a drink down and walked away , you would return to find it covered with little ants , there are no elevators for beachfront rooms which are more like beach view , so you will have to drag luggage up or down, staff aren’t the friendliest , food is mid mostly , it’s boring , no real entertainment on the resort, I wouldn’t recommend this for American POC, I was charged 6 dollars at the end for 3 local calls , you have to go back up the hill for ice, they require you to ask for a gym pass daily at the front desk, beach towels are initially left at your room, but since I switched rooms I had to go back to reception for beach towels, a lot of work while on vacation , the locals said this resort doesn’t have the best reputation and I should’ve tried the Marriott 😞

My stay at this hotel was great overall. The environment and landscaping was nothing but scenic. Great photo opportunities.
The staff were super friendly and accommodating even with the slight language barrier. However, almost everyone understood me fairly easily. The food was also great with an extensive breakfast.

My one complaint would be the cleanliness of the sofa could have been better. It was actually pretty, visibly dirty in our room. The room also had a somewhat “bland”, dull smell. Like there was no smell at all, no fresh, inviting smell. I can’t explain it more than that. We requested some sort of air freshener which was handled by housekeeping shortly after.

Nevertheless, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel and will return!!

The two pools are nice especially the man made beach pool by the beach club.
The only set back for me was the rental of the beach area every night for the week we were there to a private event. Music rattled our room every night till 1 or 2 am. On one of the nights was a fireworks show right outside our building. This really is the only complaint which ofc I assume is a one off situation.

There are several options of restaurants, but only 1 belongs to the hotel; all others are independent. The breakfast is buffet style for USD 25 per person, but to be honest I didn’t think the options and variety justify the price.

The staff was good. The area around the resort is lower mid-class. Some noisy bikers like to roam the area before midnight .

I never got any VIP perk as promised by Expedia .

Very nice place but very poor lighting in rooms. Room was rundown and floor wasn’t swept but otherwise clean. Volume on tv was on one setting which was very high and not able to lower it. If you need towels, ice, or anything else you have to get it from front desk. Staff was excellent and tried their best to accommodate our group ! I would stay again but make sure the room was cleaner.

Outdated rooms

Rooms are outdated and need renovation.
Cleaning was done very late (early evening) and one day not even done.
Sinks are yellow due to long use. Airco was leaking (above the pillow of the bed) and spiders web was not removed for a long time.

I absolutely loved this property. The room was modern and clean. I loved the walk in shower (there is room for improvement) as far as walls being cleaner. Location is a 10. Staff was very helpful, friendly, and professional. Kayla was my absolute favorite. I will return to the property.

The room service is terrible, the house keeping never cleaned the room properly, dust, dirty floors,toilet have to be cleaned by us , no silverware in the rooms , a lot to improve.

The property itself is nice but there are a few problems but that's not what I want to leave this review for. This review& the low star rating is for an experience that I had with one of the workers,her name begins with K. SHE WORKS PREDOMINANTLY WITH THE PILOTS AND Attendants. She is fair complexioned,on the chubby side& wears glasses. The young lady was helping me when one of the pilots walked up she told me that I will be with you in a second and began to assist him & I said well how can you help him when you're not finished helping me. She responded that she needed to assist him. I posed the question again. This young lady looked me square in my face & instead of explaining to me her sole responsibility, she basically told me that this white pilot is her priority& continued assisting him. I was offended. to make a long story short.I told her about herself & her lack of professionalism. I also spoke to the manager who the day we were leaving seemed to be chummy ,chummy w/the young lady so I don't think any type of action was taken. Whoever is reading this you need to RETRAIN some of the people that work there. Also, there needs to be training for all of the housekeepers that clean the rooms. There needs to be a uniform way of doing things. I'm of the persuasion that if I am spending my money I expect a certain level of service which was lacking. Papayago, please take a page out of the book of the Marriott in Grand Cayman Just came back & service was ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars!

Property is really nice but staff are entitled and rude. Lobby staff are not welcoming and people that work at the restaurants for breakfasts are rude, or at least the hosts. Curacao is an amazing place and I was super excited to go to Papagayo but it’s just an ok place.
