There is no door and an open window in the bathrooms. No privacy. Food and drinks at the hotel were extortionate for Thailand. Sewage smell at the beach and poolside was terrible.

Absolutely loved this place. The staff were extremely friendly and pools and grounds were kept very clean. It’s located right on the beach although we stayed on the mountain side it wasn’t that big a drama crossing the road. It’s a bit out of town but if you hire a scooter as we did that’s not a problem. Would recommend the hotel to anyone thinking about going to Koh Samui.

Spend 10 days at Novotel Chaweng beach, and was all in all happy about the stay. The hotel staff is very friendly, 2 nice pool areas and location directly at the beach and a short walk away from the center of Chaweng beach was perfect for a family holiday.

Great first time experience in Koh Samui

Overall good experience, staff were always friendly and helpful. Easy enough to communicate in English. The resort is split into two one beachside the other mountainside. If you stay on the mountainside expect to cross the busy main road everyday. There are two pools one on each side but the main pool has a bit of shade. There were a few restaurants around the resort but nothing to write home about. You will need to adventure out to get better eats and the beaches as well. The beach is OK, sand is abit rough and rocky but you can walk way out from shore. The room was large and spacious enough for my family.

Great Solo stay!

Really good. FYI rooms with mountain view are totally apart behind the main hotel building with main pool and beach area. Spa is great. Buffet breakfast too. Happy hours and night shows ( fire acrobats... amazing!) You can book tours to Ko Tao and make reservations to great cliff sea view restaurants for dinner. Highly recommend Novotel spa resort!

This Hotel had problems with the hot water, and black water running out at times due to old pipping i was told. There was never any sun beds available after 7am in the morning, the hotel manager agreed with me in my opinion this was barely a 2 star hotel. the new years eve entertainment and food was awful and again even confirmed by the hotel manager, even so i was refunded my £235 that was the over priced cost of the new years event. Yes there was a storm that closed the beach the pool areas, and more importantly the airpot, however this tropical storm by all accounts was know to be coming by the hotel, but not communicated even with a simple signing the reception area to its guests, in my case causing real problems and being stuck in this 2 star motel for a further 4 days, however when i tried to leave for allturnative hotel they did attempt to firstly drop there price to stay and after having to spend two hours with different so called managers to resulve my problems and complaints i insisted in only speaking to the top man, who was more than helpful i must say. However at what price do you put on your only holiday in the year ???????????

Breakfast buffet ok, but flies on most food (cheese, salami cakes etc).
Stay away from Seafood Buffet Dinner. TERRIBLE !!! Prawns and squid overcooked by chef who has no idea about cooking seafood. No fish, salmon steak, crab or lobster or bugs !!! I have never seen such a poor quality seafood buffet !

Good Stay.

A very good stay First time to Samui and I'm glad I chose the North Chewang area to stay in. The hotel was ideally located and had all the facilities that I wanted. There were some parts of the hotel that could do with a bit of a touch-up.

Family stay, away from main centre in Chaweng

The hotel is split by one of the main roads in Ko Samui, with half the accomodation and one of the two pools nearer the beach. We stayed in the part that is further from the beach and it was noticeably quieter than the beachside; no scramble for poolside seats, no scrum at breakfast (which by the way is included as part of the Expedia cost) and a much more laid back feel.
Our superior room overlooked the pool which meant the kids (2 x teenage boys) could pop in for a swim before mum and dad were ready. The room itself was large with lots of floor space, a big bed for us, a big bunk for the kids and a large Thai style sofa that could have been another double bed!
One oddity is that the bathroom is really big so feels part of the living space (separated by a windowed wall) but the loo is visible if you don't shut the door. A family will get used to this quickly.
Location wise, the hotel is about 15 minutes walk along the beach from the town centre. There are a few small restaurants nearby that are quite fun. The hotel puts on a free bus to town 3 times a day.
The hotel's location means that there is very little beach frontage, but a 5 minute stroll took us to an empty part of the beach. The beach is lovely, do try the kayaking and the fruit salad from the local vendors.
I'd stay here again!

Disappointing and overpriced hotel

It's not what I expected from Novotel chain with the Novotel Samui. Downright disappointed with just about everything. The only thing good was the reception staff. Room is too dark. No ceiling light at the office desk and shower. There is a cove ceiling but it had no lighting. There is limited selection of instant coffee and only black tea Lipton available in the room. Cable TV has limited foreign channels.
2 days of room cleaning and not enough towels. Had to always call in we need 3 got 2. Dirty glasses not cleaned.
The breakfast could be managed. There are too many people coming for breakfast and only 1 person at the hot grill making eggs, french toast and pancakes all on a small hot grill. The result is a huge que at the egg station all waiting.
After 2 days of struggling to cut the bread with the dull bread knife I had to finally complain and did get a proper sharpened bread knife.
I took my son to the beach front just after the pool and played in the sand and went out to the ocean a bit so my son can play with the sea water. I was shocked when I turned back and saw the storm drain or sewer drain outfall just very left of the hotel. Stayed in the pool after that. The Thai restaurant looks nice and we went for dinner only to wait 25 mins for our dishes because the same kitchen also cater to room service. Food was not upto par for Thai dishes. Checking out trying to get help for luggage is waiting for a long time only 1 luggage porter. Unfortunately I won't be coming back

The staff we very friendly and we got an upgrade to a bigger room. Great spot so we used the pool and the beach that the hotel backed onto. Next time we would book beach side rather than hillside. The one criticism was that the bed was quite hard.

Quiet and clean hotel with friendly staff. Decent breakfast buffet and 1-for-1 deals on beers and cocktails at specific timing. Close to Chaweng town centre with free shuttle service (1-way).

Tom Yum Thai restaurant serves delicious meals at reasonable prices in a comfortable ambience.

Totally worth the price and an excellent experienc

We stayed here 5 nights during the busy week just before Christmas through after Christmas, when prices are higher.
I've stayed at a LOT of hotels in Ko Samui and this has been my favorite by far. The pool and dining/bar area by the beach is simply awesome. The cocktails are first class and we loved the happy hours. (2 a day!)
Only negative was we thought we were staying on the beach-side of the main road but actually for the \"hill-side\" rooms you have to cross the street and walk a hundred yards/meters or two but trust me, once you accept that you won't mind the walk. Beach side rooms are way more expensive and probably not worth it, at least on this given week when even the hill-side rooms were nearly double their normal rate.
Also liked the multiple pools and the breakfast buffet was quite nice.

Good all rounder

Good hotel and probably the best pool in Samui. Whilst a little ‘tired’ in some spots it compares well to other hotels in the area and probably one of the better places. Also it is just north of main chaweng and an easy walk or 50 baht per person ride into town on a tuctuc.
One thing to note, like many of the hotels here, it spans over two sides of the road - beach side and ‘garden view’ which is a fancy name for it is on the other side of the road from the beach. Had we known we would have paid a bit extra to be on the beach side. Whilst rooms still lovely, it was just a pain and a big walk with two little kids in tow to go to and from the room to the beach each day so we found ourselves packing a big bag in the morning g and heading down and settling in for the day which wasn’t ideal.

Nice Hotel on the Beach

Recently stayed at Kandaburi (Novotel) for the fourth time in 2 years. Love this hotel but some recently changes since Novotel have taken over are a little disappointing. The hotel reception is now no longer air-conditioned. Not a very comfortable check-in when you have travelled for 15 hours and are sitting in 33-degree heat waiting to check-in. There are fans on the staff but no fans for the customers checking in ???. The hotel staff are very accommodating and friendly and the rooms are beautifully appointed with comfortable bedding. Unfortunately, I was locked out of my room 3 times due to a faulty lock on the door before the lock was repaired. The hotel maintenance person insisted I was turning the key the wrong way however the reception staff were very helpful and had the lock changed. Hotel located in front of a nice swimming beach on Chaweng and the pool facility and deck chairs are comfortable. Overall, it was an enjoyable stay and plan to be back later in the year.

Good place for the family. Amazing pool and they have good beach access.
The place is right at Chaweng, few minutes away from the major market place. Lot of local shops, 7/11, bike renting shops near by. So it comes handy when you have a toddler or a baby travelling with you.

One major problem we faced was with the air conditioning. It just doesn't cool the room. We complained twice, but it didn't cool down a bit. Finally we asked to place a fan inside the room.

Wasn't the best service really booked a room for family of 4 to find 2 single beds together and a sort off couch asked hotel for more tried to charge 1400 baht a night for beds thankfully only was ther a well, ther was ants all over room so got eaten on a night, also rooms never got cleaned till afternoon. Breakfast wasn't great half Cooked omelettes have got salmonella wrote all over them and cups and glasses dirty, on plus side pool was good and location was good 10 minutes walk from chaweng Main Street.

cheap hotel on the beach

The hotel rooms are a little tired but this is reflected in the price. We stayed hillside over the road, which was quiet in a very large family room overlooking the garden. The beachside restaurant is modern with a great pool that is right on the beach.
For the price we we're very happy with the room and location, just outside the madness of Chaweng beach but only 15 minute walk along the beach to the centre. Lots of good beach bars and restaurants nearby if you don't want to pay the high price for a meal in the hotel.

A group holiday to celebrate a big birthday! This hotel was ideal, the staff were lovely and the location great! Pools were well maintained as were the facilities! I would say the whole complex is in need of a lick of paint to freshen it up alittle! However we had an amazing time thanks guys :-)

It just means the hotel was on the beach side of the street. However, as I got used to it, it was perfect. Huge room and steps from the beach. Quiet and peaceful at night.

The entire beach side of the hotel was under renovation including scaffolding on the beach. The biggest eyesore in the zone. The staff were fine if not a bit overly concerned with your room number at breakfast as that was the only contact they had with clientele. There are better choices up and down the beach.

My partner and i just stayed 8 nights. We stayed on the hillside as the beach side was closed due to renovations. But the hillside was great, huge, clean rooms. The pool was good too. Beach could have been a bit better presented, we chose the pool over the beach. Is pretty far away from the main area of chaweng, but theres a free shuttle in a few times a day and you can just walk or taxi back. The restaurants at the hotel were closed for renovations but there is a couple of restaurants around the hotel that were really nice and prety cheap.

Lovely hotel, well looked after.

Had a couple of nights here, with two friends, and really enjoyed it. Our room was well equipped, comfortable and clean - the bathroom was the star of the show. The staff were attentive and helpful throughout our stay. We had an issue with our safe locking and our room locked us out and staff were on hand really quickly to deal with it.

In low season, plenty of room around the pool areas, and mostly a good drinks service throughout, if a little slow at times.

The hotel has its own beach and is only a short walk from other bars, restaurants, shops and massage centres if you feel the need to go out for anything, though the hotel is very well catered.

The spa is comparatively expensive for treatments (not by normal UK prices, it was still reasonable) but was worth a trip, though we couldn't resist the short walk outside the hotel for a bargain massage!

Check in was poor - discovered we had to pay for wifi and that there were no rooms with a pool view (even though that was our booking). Hotel is on a hill - a lot of the rooms are the other-side of a busy main road (not children friendly). Rooms were clean and tidy. The hotel is a long way from the main town area.

We were really disapointed with the hotel.
It has the potential to be a nice hotel (location, beach, pool are nice), but it was definitely worth the price we paid (130€ per night) avcording to Thailand standards.
Room was not clean.
All is in extra charge: wifi, espresso at breakfast (they do have the espresso machine, but it is an extra charge to have one...)
The hotel is just outside Chaweng, so it is a 20/30 mn walk to get in the center. The hotel say they have a car to take you there, but it is only at 11am, 3pm, and 9pm.
Whichbis really ot enough, and it looks like this schedule has been setup on purpose not to be usefull...

Good location

The location of the resort is just fine - not in the busiest part of the town (Chaweng Beach Road), but still convenient to the area where there are lots of stores and restaurants on foot or by taxi/minibus. Walking along the beach, we easily reached the Samui Outlet Village in about 15 minutes (hope it is useful to those who like shopping during vacation). The room is so big, with a big bathroom, to make our stay more comfortable. The breakfast is just fine, open from 6 to 10 am. Good for those who need to get up early to catch the pick-up time for day tours.

Very attractive resort.

Only stayed three nights before we left Koh Samui but would definitely love to stay there again for a longer period. Lovely breakfast. Unfortunately at the time the second dining area was being refurbished and out of use which was near to our room, but I'm sure when it is finished it will be ideal for the all the rooms which are across the road from the main entrance/reception.

So, the hotel is ok. However, I think they indulge in some false advertising to get people to stay there.

A few points of note - (1)\"Beach side\" does not mean beach front or even a beach view. (2)They say they're in Chaweng, but they're really in Chaweng Noi which is about a mile or so from Chaweng center. Their internet (even the one you have to pay for to get access in your room) is sub-par.

The breakfast buffet was decent and staff were nice, but it didn't quite make up for the lack of convenient location.

Nice experience, in spite of a few irritants..

We stayed at the Kandaburi, Koh Samui for 3 nights. Overall it was a pleasant and relaxing stay. First the positives: big hotel located on Chaweng Beach, nice swimming pool, good breakfast spread, huge rooms and bathroom (almost like a second room). The area around the main swimming pool next to the beach is really nice!!

On the negatives - as we checked in, we realized that the room allocated to us was on the other side of the road. Turns out the hotel has 2 sections, one which is on the beach and the other on opposite side of the road. Now while we'd expected to be a little away from the beach/ pool as we'd booked a standard room, didn't expect it to be on the other side of the road itself :)

The location is a 10 minute walk from the Chaweng Market Area so isn't all that centrally located if you plan to hit the many-many eateries and watering holes in town (my fault really, should have researched more on the location - and they do have a 'drop only' service running thrice a day). Strangely, the hotel does not provide any tooth-paste weren't carrying any, which sort of bummed me because that's like standard in all hotels I've ever stayed in.

Plus no wi-fi in the room and generally poor connectivity around the pool area as well.

We only had one meal at the hotel and tried some of their cocktails which were really good. It's not at all a bad hotel, but there is definitely some room for improvement.

Hotel was amazing. upgraded to suite which was lovely surprise. Rooms spacious and comfortable with great location at beach. Lovely places to eat and drink on beach nearby. Would recommend this hotel and would love to go back. Staff friendly and helpful - special call out to housekeeping and security who always helped us with crossing road and stopping taxis - lovely touch. Def pay extra for beachside if you can afford it is worth it however this doesn't mean a sea view which was my only disappointment

We stayed at this hotel for three nights at the end of our Thailand holiday. We had a great stay. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. Hotel backs onto a quiet section of Chaweng beach. Just a short taxi ride to the centre of Chaweng (about a 10 minute walk if not feeling lazy). Food from the restaurant was good. Our only complaint was that the see through curtain door to the bathroom was a little uncomfortable. We were also told that free wifi only existed in the pool area and had to be payed for in our rooms.

You need to be fit to take on all the stairs - yes there is an elevator but it wasn't working and you still have stairs on the beach side just to get into the foyer. The beds are hard as rocks. The staff on the hillside are not friendly at all (cause they are on the hillside?) there is no pool service on the hillside and the bar closes at about 3 so you can not sit around the pool enjoying a drink late in the afternoon or evening. Very limited sun chairs on the beach side looking out to the beach and the beach is minimal (none at all if the tide comes in - which it did for 5 days on our stay). The pool on the beach side is really nice. The hillside is really quite. The rooms on the hillside are large and very clean and the block out blinds work perfectly. If the staff were friendlier you could overlook some of the other things but it was like the guests were just an inconvenience to them.

Initially we were very disappointed for the 1st night as hillside rooms are old & in need of updating & refurbishment . Also lot of mosquitoes and my daughter's legs were full of mosquito bites . Next day we spoke to reception and Kanda & their entire helpful ever - smiling staff more than made up for it by offering us a very nice beachside room & we loved the rest of the stay ! The breakfast could stay open till 10.30 or 11 - as we are on vacation & thus , at leisure would be nice !

Good for one week stay

unfortunately, we had only 3 sunny days during our stay but we had the opportunity to enjoy our stay. Easy to get to the city center (10 minutes ride at 50 bath per person in tuk tuk that you can take in front of the hotel). Decent swimming pool and good breakfast (included). You are are sensitive to mosquito bites take your repellent and also ask for spray. TV could have more options for children but wi-fi access is good. Stay on beack side. There are good restaurants at walking distance.

My son got married at Kandaburi Resort

With about 30 friends to help cellebrate the occation, we couldn't be more happy we chose the Samui Kandaburi Resort.
From the Aussie Manager John to his wonderful staff everything went like clockwork, AMAZING!
Most guests stayed for about 5-6 days. Not one hickup !
Would recommend Samui Kandaburi Resort for family or couples. Great value for money in 5 star Resort.
Close to very good cheap Restaurants & Massage. With easy access to the busy shopping strip.

Perfect in every way !

Our son's wedding was the best wedding that our quests said they had been to, & it was. Thanks to the manager John & his staff everything went to plan. Many friends made a holiday of 5 to 7 days and all said it was a great place to stay. And the nightly charge didn't break the bank. I would rate this resort from high 4 to 5.
If you are looking for a low cost wedding that's a bit different, then this is the place to choose !

A lovely resort but lots of stairs.

The resort is lovely but if I had known there were so many stairs and no other alternative, I would never have stayed there. The rooms are very nice & spacious. We were put in an upstairs room but requested one downstairs which was granted, but when everything was moved my iPad was missing and never turned up! John, the manager was helpful and I can claim on my travel insurance. The beds are extremely hard. I loved the pool area lots of shade and trees but still enough sunny spots for those sun lovers. Food was expensive there but many other restaurants and cafes. All in all it is a lovely resort with friendly staff but just so many stairs!

Really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Stayed in the hillside section which has its own pool and restaurant. The beach-side section also has its own pool and restaurant with beautiful views of the beach and sea. The additional cost of living beach-side is not worth the extra expense. The hill-side rooms are excellent; good size rooms and a very large bathroom. The balcony is spacious and provided glimpses of the sea and pool.

The reception staff were very helpful and promptly dealt with any request. The housekeeping girls were very friendly and did everything with a smile.The buffet breakfast was very good and would satisfy most people except for the whinging brigade that are never happy.

The hotel is located about a fifteen minute walk to the main Chaweng Beach area. Baht buses are frequent but in the daytime a pleasant walk along the beach is very enjoyable. I would definitely stay at this hotel again

Excellent hotel on a white sandy beach

Kandaburi hotel and their staff made this stay another memorable one for us. We have been back a number of times over the last few years and the standard of this hotel and their staff have always been high. Any minor issues which may arise are swiftly resolved by the hard working staff who are always eager to help. The location of the Kandaburi hotel in a peaceful bay setting and the climate in general are other reasons why we have been back a number of times and will most certainly return in the future.

Needs renovation and doors in the toilet!

The Hotel was OK. Big room a bit old and bed sheets ant towels quite old. The sheets were dirty when we arrived to the room so had to change them quite dirty). the toilet is big with 2 windows that face the room and a 2 meters wide door. The problem was that the windows and doors has courtains!!!! (no door or glass) so you can imagine how unconfortable was to use it. Cannot imagine what they were thinking when they designed the rooms! We just stayed 2 nights so could handle, but for longer stays with more people can realy be a problem.

Gorgeeous resort handy to everything

Had a wonderful stay at Kandaburi, gorgeous well appointed spacious room, but found the king bed just too hard and uncomfortable, and a softer mattress would have been appreciated. We spent most nights trying to get comfortable.

A bit of a walk from the action

Must stay beach side. Rooms ok but a bit dark. Nice pool area on beach. About a 20 min walk to main shops and not enough request shuttle buses.

Recommend eating about 100m down beach at YOUR PLACE .great atmosphere, cocktails only 90 baht from 3 to 9pm, and nice cheap food. Bands most nights too.

Stayed in hillside room and was fine and will stay there again. The breakfast was good with a fair share of variety. Staff very helpfull and friendly. Foods and drinks are more expensive than elswere as they add 27% taxes and service fees to their quoted prices. There are many alternative places to eat and drink for less. The shuttle to town is one-way and only 3 times a day 12 noon, 3pm and 9pm. Not too far to walk +/-1.5km to get to town.

Beachside or Hillside rooms

This hotel was in a very good location about 15 mins from Koh Samui airport and easy access to the bars, restaurants and shops in Chaweng which are easily reached by bus or cab.

Be aware that if you go for a hillside room you will need to walk across the road to get to the beach however there is also a pool on the hillside rooms area.

We found the staff to be a bit offish not at all attentive which you would expect from hotel staff.

A great all round stay!

I was worried after seeing some of the other reviews about the hill side part of the hotel and also some of the reviews about money going missing. I'm glad to say that I had a great time there with my girlfriend. It was a great hotel in a great location and the staff were great. The only comment I would make is on the day of check in I thought one of the girls on reception could have had better customer services (she seemed grumpy) aside from that no complaints what soever

Great beach

Location is ok it's not in the center or anything but 15 ride to get to Chaweng center. Hotel itself is so so. Kind old, not fully facilitated, poor service, etc. But the beach is unbelievably nice. Hands down one of the best I've been too, including Hawaii, Bali, Phuket, etc. Don't choose the mountain side rooms tho.
