The property location is great but do NOT book a room in the new wing as the photos were very deceiving. This is the first hotel I've stayed in without any windows (why were there curtains to cover a wall?) and the room was so small my carry on was basically a foot away from the bed. The worst part was the toilet was 2 inches from the wall so you couldn't even sit down (I'm only 5'1) and you couldn't open the bathroom and the shower doors at the same time because of the poor layout. Most of the staff was pleasant but when I kindly asked one of them not to say my room number out loud (for safety reasons), she responded \"your room is in the next building\" and left me to figure out the rest upon check in.

Really Spacious room. Lovely staff. A little bit tired but clean. But…did I mention the spacious room. Great location. Easy walking distance. Great base for a 5 day stay. Hop on hop off bus stop 3 min walk. MTR stations all around. Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Raffles,Chinatown all easy to walk to even for an Old Boomer!

Good position for exploring via the MRT

Friendly check in staff and lovely comfy bed. Great shower with hand held and drench heads. Hotel was a bit worn. The corridor carpets were quite stained, could do with a freshen up and refurb in places.

Deluxe Garden Quern room deceptively portrayed

Original booking was for Deluxe Garden Queen, boasting 42 sq m room. On arrival at hotel, found that the actual room (on my measurements) was approx 16-17 sq m. The difference was 2 bathrooms and yard all included in the 42sq m. There was not enough floor space for two suitcases, let alone two people - no wardrobe - only hanging space was above the toilet (you would have to push clothes aside to use the toilet. One bathroom and the yard were outside in Singapore heat of approx 31deg. The yard was open to the weather and next to a construction site - not really usable.
I consider this room was described very deceptively on the Hotels.com app.
In defence of the hotel, they understood our concerns, and moved us to a similarly priced room which was a good size.
Our stay was good with the following exceptions
Airconditioning was not able to get the room cool enough
Wi-Fi was very unreliable

Good location of hotel for travellers for a short stay in Singapore, air conditioning isn’t as cool as we’d hoped and the breakfast isn’t anything to rave about as a westerner! But certainly did the job and allowed us to explore Singapore at lower cost compared to other accommodation options in the city, the staff were also very polite and accommodating. Recommended

We stayed to different nights. This second time March 9 (room 608) it smelt like mold in our room. I think it was around the air conditioner. It took awhile to get used to the moist pungent smell.

We booked a Deluxe Superior room for one night. When we booked the photograph of the room is what we expected on arrival. This was not the case. The room did not have a bench and chair and mirror. It was tiny. We had to walk over our suitcases. It was in the new wing. It had been refurnished and was clean. A disappointment Wotif.Hotel Bencoolen @ HongKong Singapore. The bonus was the hotel was close to the canal and there was plenty of food outlets.

After a cruise we arrived long before normal check in and we were given our room. The room was small, as normal for Singapore, but there was everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the staff helpful. Breakfast was more suited to the Asian market.

The hotel is just metres away from Clarke Quay and at walkable distance to transport and main attractions. There's plenty of food and drinks options nearby.

Rooms are a bit small, but new and very clean. They do have a plunge pool in the rooftop at the hotel side which is a rarity to find in the city centre (unless you are in an expensive hotel).

This is a great place to stay. We had 3 nights there in December. Staff are kind and helpful - most of them spoke english too. Breakfast was great, especially the fresh fruit.

Rooms are clean. Spa is great! Can't complain about anything. Would absolutely stay again.

When you're lying in bed and one side is against the wall and your feet can almost touch the opposing wall, it's not 4 stars.
When the shower runs hot water for only 3 minutes it's not 4 stars.
Having to keep the curtains closed because the room looks directly into another room, its not 4 stars.
When the cleaner leaves a bag with two replacement threadbare towels on the door, its not 4 stars.
One communal bowl of cold noodles does not constitute breakfast.
This is at best am adequate 3 star. Maybe.

Doesnt look at all like the pictures. The room has a giant pillar in it which made it difficult to get into one side of the bed. Room didnt get made up to 330pm in afternoon. Breaksfasts were terrible. Paper plates and plastic utensils with no knife. No hand towels. Pool not bigger than a hottub and didnt look too clean day 2. Close to Hop on off and amenities outside.

This hotel is quite dated. Things are falling apart. Once I got in to the bathroom, I noticed there are hair left on the little white tray where they placed the body lotion. It was very noticeable and disgusting. The bath towels provided have big holes and the edge of it are all frayed. I thought I was using rags for drying my body. The ceiling of the bathroom are filled with mold. Last but not least, the Wi-Fi was horrible. It kept logging me out. They don’t have a lot of outlets/ usb plugs to charge your electronics devices. I’m surprised the rating for this hotel is quite high. My stay was not so pleasant. I would not recommend this hotel.

The room was ok, but in the hallways the carpet is dirty and very old The breakfast wasn't edible, Eggs not fully scrambled, sausages tooo spicey ,bread dry and everything you had to use was throw away cutlery plates etc. And this in a world where we try to limit rubbish Not a nice coffee machine and not enough seating. Great location but there is NO POOL!

Hotel was nice at 1st glance but room was extremely small. Could not walk around bed when 2 people in room as no space. Bed is against the wall which is all windows. Room is only big enough for 1 person not 2. Does have an amazing bathtub room but no place for luggage. Shower has mold. Beautiful garden arra but it is a waiste of space. Great for a 1 or 2 night stay as in wonderful location close to public transportation. Breakfast is included but not good. We only ate it one of the 4 nights. Staff is amazing and very helpful. They let us store pur luggage as only place in room for it was in the shower kr in the wet closet where oversized amazing tub is. Very close to rail, bus stops and hawkers. There is no pool. What is said to be a pool is an old hot tub and does not even look to have a filter.

First, you can look at the pictures and see that the bathroom had hand bars in there, but it was taken out..? no shower curtain and nothing to grab onto if someone fell with or without a handicap. I asked for a bench or a chair for the shower and they said they couldn’t find one. They got me one but with no armrest or something to grab onto two days in my stay. On the third day they brought me a chair that was right for my dad.
Once I took a shower, everything was wet in the bathroom because there wasn’t a shower curtain to stop any water from splashing everywhere. Simple fixes that could change all this!
They said they had a gym in the elevator and a spa/hot tub which isn’t true. The hot tub is not hot and it is never hot. I asked the worker and they said, “only nice places have hot tubs” which made me laugh because he was saying the truth, why have a hot tub and not make it hot? Saving on cost for heating?
For the room being handicap accessible, and then making unaccessible before we got there; makes no sense. They should fire the person who is making the decisions there. Just look at the pictures and you can see that there was hand bars installed by the toilet and shower but they took them out…? Why??
The staff was very friendly though. I felt like it just made them look bad because they weren’t making these dumb decisions.
The breakfast wasn’t that bad but they could’ve Had some condiments other than just butter and jam. Ketchup up for the potatoes would’ve been nice.

Beware - this hotel is a scam! We booked a room in this hotel (room (3)204 in the \"new\" wing of the hotel, which is not where the main reception is, but two doors away on the street from the main hotel) to find out upon arrival that the room had no window with natural light. The window was facing a wall in the pitch black corridor with zero natural light. I am not sure how it's even allowed to rent this cupboard and call it a hotel room. At night there was a loud humming electrical noise as well, so it was hard to sleep. Also, it cost us 600 dollars for 2 nights! It really spoiled our vacation. The hotel did not want to move us to another room when we complained nor to refund us so that we can find a normal hotel instead. There was no information about this when we were booking this hotel as we would NEVER have booked this room. At the reception they told us that other guests also complained in the past about this, so they are very aware of the issue but they chose to hide it so they can scam guests. They also ask for upfront payment at the reception upon check-in, to ensure they have your money so you cannot leave after you discover the scam. Terrible experience!! Stay away!

Stayed 2 nights in Singapore at Hotel Bencoolen@Hong Kong Street. Location is good, not too far from Clark Quay MRT station and easy walking distance to both Clark Quay and Boat Quay. Hotel appears to have aged some since photos shown online. Room was clean but condition of room and common areas no longer new. See photo of Garden Patio as representative. (Some of the trellises missing from wall and overall, garden patio probably not as nice as it once was). Room was lower priced than some of the newer hotels in area, just not as nice. Coffee machine in lobby was good and included breakfast wasn't bad. Had intermittent issues with door lock. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't. Perhaps batteries low. Reported to front desk. Attendant checked it out and said \"it worked for them\" so they didn't do further follow up. Was hoping to get \"more than we paid for\" but probably got \"what we paid for\".

An excellent, affordable, centrally located hotel

First off, the location is superb. Within walking distance to Chinatown, the beautiful Lau Pa Sat hawkers center, Gardens by the Bay and, of course, Marina Bay Sands. The hotel is also one block from the local bus line to the Orchard Road shopping area. So, a very convenient hotel.

The hotel itself is in excellent condition. It having a small real estate footprint, it has a modest lobby where they serve the free buffet-style breakfast, but who needs a massive lobby to hang around it. The room was spacious, clean and perfectly functional. Lots of lighting options, blackout curtains, big TV and plenty of fast hot water in the shower. The Bencoolen is a great centrally located base for a trip to Singapore. I stayed two nights. The desk people were very polite and helpful, even though they were very busy at times. I did not use the pool.

If you're staying here for the Grand Prix, it's an ok walking distance to the track, Funan and Raffles City.

The property is very tired and in-room facilities extremely limited. I'd call this a no frills accomodation.
I stayed in the loft suite which in essence was tiny.

Leaking shower that wouldn't drain properly, water came on and off whilst in the shower.

Breakfast in the morning was very limited and not worth it, better to go for a walk to a nearby cafe or shopping centre.

Our room and bedding was very clean and clean towels and toiletries every day. The towels were grey rather than white. The hallway on our landing needed hovering when we arrived, and wasn’t done for three days.
The gentleman who checked us in was not friendly at all.
Breakfast was a free for all and not enough tables. We ended up just having toast it was easier.
The daytime reception staff were very friendly and helpful with directions.
But I am unsure how they were a four star!!
We would not go back

The aircon wasn’t working in the hotel room when we checked in so we were shifted to a premier room which was more spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the room clean but the hairdryer didn’t work, there was only hot water coming out if the tap in the vanity basin and the shower nozzle pointed towards the shower door. A jug was provided in the room with tea and coffee but no milk. When I added fir milk the receptionist advised they didn’t supply milk. This was the same in the breakfast room, tea and coffee but no milk.
The breakfast was geared towards the Asian market but limited options for european guests. There was one knife provided for the butter for toast and one for the jam which was very unhygienic in these Covid times. I asked for another knife and was given a plastic one which was good but there should have been knives provided,
The hall areas needed vacuumed and the breakfast area was grimy.
All in all it was a very disappointing stay. To pay nearly $300 for such a poor quality property is unacceptable.
Please consider a partial refund for the poor quantity of this property.

The service is a bit slugging. During breakfast the garbage can was completely full and we can’t push down our used disposable plates into it. Also shortly after eating the breakfast my wife started to have diarrhea and we suspected there’s something wrong with the food.

Great location but not a great hotel

The rooms are quite small, fine if you’re young and fit and just want to crash between outings but not comfortable for an older couple like us. Please note that in the standard double rooms you can only access the bed from one side!

Also the free breakfast is what you expect in a cheap backpacker hostel, not a pricey hotel.
It is very central which is a plus and the staff are helpful but I wouldn’t stay there again.

The hotel is in a great location. It is close to China Town, restaurants on the river and metro stops but still quiet. The staff has good recommendations. Breakfast is hot but kind of minimal selection.

Pleasant hotel in a great location 5 minutes from Riverside and Clarke Quay MRT. Room was very nice and staff friendly and helpful - but the breakfast definitely left something to be desired and needs a big improvement.

On arrival allocated Room 404 - No access to the bed from both sides and safe not working. Asked for room change due to mobility issues, and safe not working.

Then allocated Room 608 - Smell of Damp. Water dripping from the ceiling / air con unit. Totally unhealthy environment, unable to open the window. Told no other rooms available.

So the Receptionist arranged a transfer to their other Bencoolen Hotel.

Receptionist was very helpful and understanding.

Even though the Staff are helpful. Due to fabric and design / condition of the rooms I would not make a future booking.

This was a nice hotel for a budget price in Singapore. There is a free coffee machine, ice maker and cold water dispenser all day long plus an unadvertised free basic breakfast. Staff are friendly. The shower was hot and with plenty of flow.
The location on HongKong Street is a bit noisy at night. I think maybe there are some night clubs nearby.
It’s a fairly easy walk to Clark Quay or Chinatown station for the MRT.

Note: This hotel is commonly listed as having a hot tub. It does not!

Overall, this hotel was alright. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location was handy. My biggest complaints are:

1) It was advertised as having a hot tub, which it did not. We chose it specifically for that reason.
2) The hallways throughout the hotel were very dirty. They seemed as though they'd never been vacuumed before.
3) We had issues with hot water supply trying to have a bath (since there was no hot tub).
4) The supplied breakfast was horrible. The coffee is also bad. I recommend eating elsewhere.

Positives:

1) The bathtub is very musical and makes a nice percussion instrument in the all-glass bathroom. Try it out if you go there.
2) They provide a filtered water machine in the lobby.
3) Staff is friendly and helpful.

Location is excellent as the hotel is surrounded by multiple transportation options. A lot of 7/11 stores nearby and there’s also a mall just across the main road. But what we really like about it is the cleanliness in the rooms and lobby and front desk. Not so much on some amenities like the garden terrace. Would have been a great dining area if the tables did not have any molds underneath the glass - we also had to wipe the surface to get rid off what looked like months of dust. At any rate, we decided to give it 5-stars since you can really rest in the rooms after a day of going or walking around Singapore. Quiet but central location; comfy beds and pillows; clean showers with hot running water; so many storage space; and daily house keeping too so everything was worth it at the end. Will definitely book here again.
