I liked that it was not located in a typical tourist area. The neighborhood was more working class, lots of immigrants, a real slice of Berlin life. Good access to a major transport hub at nearby Gesundbrunnen Station. Adjacent shopping center was nice and covered all needs. Classy German dining at nearby Lichtburg restaurant. Desk staff were helpful and spoke very good English. Quiet neighborhood--could leave the window open at night.

Great for families

Wonderful family hotel. Breakfast was super with the kids - they had fruit, salad, eggs, pancakes, cereals, yogurts and more. The dining room had a play area too. Very comfortable beds. Bathroom was quite small and only 1 bar of soap (no other amenities). Location is close to a train station but outside the city center.

We stayed here as a family of five for four nights, and unfortunately, it was one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had, especially for the price. The hotel advertises family rooms for 5–6 people with bunk beds, but beyond that, it offers the bare minimum. There was no air conditioner, no microwave, no iron, no laundry facility, no coffee machine, no kettle — nothing that would make it feel like a proper family accommodation.

For what it offered, the price was simply not justified. I paid over €200 per night, with Saturday and Sunday nights costing €333 each — more than €1,200 in total for four nights. For that kind of money, I would expect at least basic amenities. Instead, the room came with just a tiny refrigerator that could barely hold a couple of water bottles.

The bunk beds were noisy with every movement, making it hard to sleep, and there was only one pillow per bed. It genuinely felt like a place that should cost €30–40 a night, not over €300.

To make things worse, there’s a park right next to the hotel where homeless people and drunk individuals gather, which did not feel safe or comfortable, especially with children.

Some reviews say, “You get what you pay for,” but this was not a budget stay — it was expensive, and the value just wasn’t there. I seriously considered leaving after the first night. I regret booking here and would not recommend it to families looking for a comfortable or affordable place to stay.

The hotel check-in was really welcoming with easy check-in. The room was really clean and quiet. The staff were very helpful providing me with information about Berlin, a good map with and how to use the transit systems i.e. buy a 24hr pass (which I did!). The staff also helped locate a kettle for me so I could make a drink in my room. Would definitely stay here again.

I wasn’t expecting too much but it did surprise me. It is a basic hotel. Nothing flash but for the price and location (assuming you want to be in the area as I needed to be), it was great. The room was spacious. The only thing to be aware of there are no toiletries - no shampoo, only a very small bar of soap (they do provide towels). There is a shopping mall by the main train station just up from the hotel. The breakfast was good, and the staff helpful. It may feel like a dodgy area but it really is not. Around the corner are many places to eat. If you trek a block or so you’ll find, in my opinion, the best Turkish restaurant in Berlin… Jore.

I dropped off my bags early before checking.They stored it. Great location. Easy access into the vity via tram or U/S bahn. 6 mins wslk from shopping mall. RTger noisy as its opposite a rock climbing centre an lots of people talking loud in street at all hours

It was just hidden enough that we didn't know how close it was to Gesundbrunnen station and kaufpark, perhaps the hotel should point that out for food options?

A Top option for a stay in Berlin, value for mone.

I really enjoyed my stay at CityHotel Berlin. Very friendly staff. Comfy bed and spacious room, the highlight was a frigo bar. It was only too hot and I couldn’t find a way to chill down. Breakfast , superb, with variety and quality in a nice environment facing the trees outside. Location is second to none, 5 minutes walking to Gesundbrunnen station, with trains, U-Bahn, S-Bahn, Buses and convenience stores including a Bio Supermarket. 4 stops til Alexanderplatz, a main central point in Berlin. I would return and certainly highly recommend this property, which surprised in the positive way.

We opted for the room with the bunkbeds for our family of five. It was nice compact room. The S-Bahn and U-Bahn are very conveniently within walking distance. Parking was easy. There is a nice buffet style breakfast available as well as other bakery options nearby. Plenty of restaurants nearby for lunches and suppers. There is also a very nice park nearby with two historical bunkers with great views of the area.

Absolutely fantastic hotel and location in Berlin. It is located close to U-Bahn and S-Bahn stations in a lively neighborhood, yet the rooms are quiet. Great breakfast and value for the money. If you want to park on property, ensure you make a reservation early, otherwise there is street parking available. Highly recommend this hotel.

That was a part of experiencing Berlin. The area was fairly quiet and safe. Parking was limited but we managed to find a spot on the street side. Breakfast was enjoyable! Overall, we would stay again! Great value.

When we got to our room it did not have a kettle and tea/coffee facilities, which we did not realise beforehand. When we asked for cups of hot water from the bar to make our own from tea/coffee purchased we were charged £2 per cup of hot water. The bar staff were quite unhelpful about this when we queried it. The website does state that facilities are in available. Disappointed.

A hotel with plusses and minuses.

This is not a great hotel, and less convenient to the metro than one would expect, but it does have its plusses. The rooms are rather cramped, and include more beds than needed or requested, wasting even more space. The noise from outside is considerable. There is no refrigerator, and the safe is quite small. The bathroom is sufficient, and well designed, though the shower hook doesn't quite fit the attachment.
The beds are quite comfortable, and the breakfast is excellent with great variety, good quality and an attentive staff. This is the best part of staying here.
The wifi however is not secured, so many pages refuse to load on my tablet. There are no English language Tv stations available, unlike every other hotel where we have stayed during our seven weeks in Europe (and 14 hotels). One thus can't even get the news.
This hotel, even at the lower end of options in Berlin, is still expensive, and Berlin is one of the least interesting cities we have visited on this trip.

Overall our stay was enjoyable.

Pros: The hotel is very close to the train station. Breakfast was good. The hotel offers a bagged lunch option for $5/person, which we took advantage of to save time and money while exploring the city. The lobby offers beer, wine, and coffee drinks that were nice to enjoy.

Cons: It was warm so we slept with the windows open, however the street traffic was very loud. The neighborhood seemed a little sketchy at night. The hotel itself was not conveniently located to attractions in the city (but the train station was close and easy to figure out.)

This hotel is essentially a hostel for teenager school groups visiting Berlin. The location is convenient to the S/U lines and the breakfast buffet is excellent with lovely patio seating. However, it can be noisy especially if you have to keep the windows open on a hot night. Moreover, the thump of footfalls continues into the wee hours of the night. Avoid rooms near the staircase or facing the climbing wall if you like a quiet night's sleep!

The hotel was located in the north of the city but had good train links to all the main places of interest so we didn’t feel detached at all. Also some local restaurants and bars if you want to stay close one evening. The rooms were basic but very clean and fine for a short break. However, air conditioning would have been welcome as it was over 30 degrees during our stay in mid June but I guess that’s part of the trade off with the price. Breakfast was good. Service was friendly. Very good value hotel.

This hotel was perfect for our family trip to Berlin. A quad room designed as a quad room with bunk beds rather than additional beds / a sofa bed that takes up floor space meant the room was spacious. A decent selection at the included continental breakfast meant even our fussiest child found plenty to east to set us up for the day. Although not especially central, it was a close walk to the station with several lines that took us to all the attractions we wanted in about 10 minutes. Only slight negative was the shampoo provided was of a lower quality so for those with longer hair I'd suggest taking your own.

Great Hotel for Famiy

This hotel is not only suitable for tourists, but also convenient for families and students because there is lots of activities available inside and around the hotel. It is conveniently located near the metro Berlin-Gesundbrunnen station for S and U Bahn links. There are spacious public meeting places in the lobby and each floor of the hotel for groups of people preparing outdoor activities. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the reception staff politely and directed to various facilities inside the hotel. There were only a limited number of free parking spaces at the front entrance of the hotel. As it would be more convenient for touring the city of Berlin by public transport, we left our cars at the hotel for two days without any charge. We had a comfortable stay for 2 nights with twin beds but the variety of food in the breakfast buffet was just sufficient.

A very good family hotel in convenient location!

Great if you need to accommodate 3 people.in one room (we were a party of 5 in 2 rooms). Close to the Tegel airport, walking distance to public transportation (you can buy a group ticket at the hotel reception), and very friendly staff. The deciding factors for us were good price, free parking and free breakfast. Overall we were very satisfied!
PS: BTW we had exactly the room that is shown in the hotels.com photo.

We got to the hotel around 12 pm after a 16-hour trip and were told to wait for our room for another 2 hours because the check-in is at 2pm. Then at night, we heard people outside, fireworks (not knowing for what occasion), and constant trains passing outside. The breakfast was only ok, but the room was also full of wasps (I doubt they were bees), and I can’t say the tables were clean (you were asked to clean them yourself). Then the check out was at 10 am, pretty early, with a check-in at 2. The area isn’t great, although it’s only about 5 minutes walking to the U-bahn and S-bahn stations. Not much to eat around there, though, and there is a Lidl about 10 minutes from there but you have to look for it. They provide limited toiletries but you get a mini soap and a plastic packet of liquid shampoo. The towels had hairs in them. Unfortunately, we didn’t enjoy our stay.

Easy to get to Berlin centre from here using Gesundbrunnen station. Excellent breakfast at the hotel. Friendly staff. Nice Italian restaurant recommended by hotel about 10/15 mins walk away that fed a family of 4 for about €45/€50 inc pasta & pizza dishes. Games room with pool table in hotel basement. Drinks machine in basement too with bottles of Cola etc for €2. Fruit & veg shop right near the Italian sells cans of Cola for just 80 cents. Also a McDonalds & KFC in the station vicinity.

A full service bar in the lobby (buy a drink and either enjoy there or take to your room!) the staff were incredibly helpful and very attentive to us, despite our inability to speak German 😊. The hotel is great. A 15 minute cab ride from the Tegel airport. The train is a short 5 minute walk for the U+ S Bahn. Very friendly and helpful staff. Loved our room. Spacious and with bunk beds for the kids. It was immaculately clean. The breakfast buffet was also great. The location is my only complaint- a lot of homeless people, I wouldn’t recommend walking after dark. Otherwise loved our stay and would come back!

Clean, comfortable hotel close to major train stat

I spent 7 nights at this hotel in mid-April. The hotel was impeccably clean, with large rooms, comfortable beds, and a good breakfast buffet. It is very family friendly, with high school tour groups present nearly every day of my stay. The hotel is a short walk to GesundBrunnen S + U train station, so very convenient to get to Berlin Mitte or elsewhere. The staff were helpful and polite, speaking excellent English. I would definitely stay there again!

Good experience

The hotel is close to U-bahn station. It took 10-15 to get to the city center. Very good breakfast. Updated clean room. The WIFI Was not reliable, no signal most of the time.

Perfect choice

Everythng made a perfect fit for us. The hotel is 4-5 minutes walk to the station of very convenient U or S- bahn system of public transportation of Berlin. 15 minutes and you are in any point of central Berlin. No hassle with parking. The size of the room is on small side, but it is spotless and comfortable. The breakfast cost is included and it is amazing: big variety for every taste.

Excellent value for money,no fridge in the room...

...which is a serious deficiency,because (nearly) cold water is very expensive in Berlin and in other cities,so you can't have cold water with you. Prices of a 0.5 l. bottle range from 1 (rare) to 4 euros,with an average price of 2,5 euros.Hotel staff is very helpful and the room OK.

Typical middle tier European hotel I've stayed at. WiFi didn't work that well with our devices. Parking was very limited and we had to park on street. Not most scenic of areas but close to train station and all other important Berlin sites. I would stay there again.
