WORST EXPERIENCE GILFER HOTEL

I contracted Covid the afternoon I arrived after I tested. I notified the cleaning staff not to enter to protect her. I wasn't ill but I had tested positive. I would go out to pick up my food or eat at an outdoor restaurant. The manager told me I would have to leave! I would have to go to my families home (I'm on vacation. I have no family there) or she would call the police to remove me or an ambulance to take me to the hospital. I had already gone to the hospital to confirm my self test and was seen by a physician who told me I tested positive but had no medical issues. Two days later I went to another hospital and saw a Pulmonary specialist who requested a scan of my lungs and said the same thing. I am vaccinated. I contracted Covid, however, I was not sick. She then asked me to see my medical records so she could view them. I declined. This was the WORST experience in my travels I have ever experienced. I will NEVER visit the city again. I contacted the Secretaría de Salud who advised me that it was illegal for anyone to demand to view the medical records of someone. I stayed until my departure date and have not and will not return

Service was excellent. Clean and walking distance to Zocalo 2min. Starbucks and a Pharmacy with Dr office on the corner.
Tours by Toribus available at Zocalo. Catedral and many restaurants and shopping walking distance. Calle de Los dulces. Also a street full of Talavera items,
Los Sapos, Barrio del Artista

Shower and sink took a long time to drain. Toilet clogged easily and spilled over. Maintenance came promptly and unclogged it, however refused to provide cleaning/disinfectant products as he said since there was no smell, it wasn't a problem. The provided shampoo did not lather.
The location is downtown which is great for tourism, however the cathedral bells ring multiple times an hour not stopping throughout the night. The bells would continuous wake us up and we could hear the neighbours also waking up as the walls were very thin.
Regular cleaning staff and front desk personnel were nice and friendly.

What I liked about this place was its location. Museums,
historical sites, great restaurants, shopping places, all were within walking distance. The hotel itself has a great restaurant that offers a wide variety of typical regional dishes.
The things I \"did not like \"about this hotel is the noise that you could hear from the traffic, but believe its minimal.
Over all for me this was a great place and the cost is very affordable.

This was a great location rooms were clean and staff doing covid precautions and housekeeping staff were great. There were a lot of things broken and falling apart and the beds were really hard and difficult to sleep on. The first day the shower didnt work at all the housekeeping staff came and shook the minerals around in the shower head until some water came out, but that is the kind of fix for everything there. Half my window was replaced with wood and the track for the wooden blind was broken so it was impossible to close at night... great location and it was great once but lots of things were falling apart and the beds were really uncomfortable

Very nice rooms, clean, our room 706 had an amazing view of the main cathedral and was gorgeous at night with its lighting. Bells toil all night but with window closed, we didn't hear them. Restaurant on-site had my favorite breakfast of our 2 week trip. Excellent valet parking and very comfortable bed.

I like the location of the hotel. The area it’s safe to walk at night. It’s not a luxury hotel & I will stay again but My only problem was the shower head. It feels like you’re showering with a breeze. The staff it’s really nice, specially the housekeeping staff.

We stayed at Hotel Gilfer for two weeks and would not hesitate to stay there again. It's well located one block from the Zocalo and the rooms on one side of the hotel overlook the side of the cathedral. The rooms are large and all have windows, something that can be a rarity in Mexico. The rooms are equipped with a coffee pot. The internet wasn't perfect but worked reasonably well. The on-site restaurant offers a good selection of dishes. Overall a very good value for money hotel.

The Gilfer is a pleasant budget hotel near the zocalo. The rooms can be noisy because sound easily travels from one room to the next. But the beds are comfortable. The wifi works and the restaurant offers good, inexpensive breakfasts.

During our two day stay I had my sports jacket and a dress shirt removed from our room.
We checked out at 13.00 hrs on the 23rd and realised some hours later that I had left my jacket and shirt in the closet, We returned that evening to the hotel and were informed that nothing had been left in the room and we were invited to look. “ the room had not been reoccupied after we left” earlier that day.
We spoke to the hotel manager Gabriel who made every effort to find out what had occured without success.
The fact remains that my jacket and shirt were removed from the room and there is no explaination and they have not been found.

I stayed for 3 days on the 5th floor with a mountain view. Reception speaks some English but the wifi is weak and sometimes unable to connect from the room.

The room size is huge and the housekeeping was trying to maintain the room well. However, the furniture quality and decor are aging. The hotel location is perfect and right in the centro.

Construction on the floor above made us change rooms. Our new room had a chirping smoke alarm which we discovered st 11pm. The solved the problem by just removing the smoke alarm battery. Didn't feel safe at all. The staff was friendly.

Great location and full of value- walk in any direction from the hotel and you will find a wide range and classes of places to eat. I loved the stay and had no issues with the hotel until departure. I was about to use on Uber on checkout, but the hotel staff offered to call a taxi for me. I agreed and it was an overall bad experience using this unmarked taxi. It was not a dangerous experience in the end, but just annoying. The hotel quoted me a price to go to the bus station and the driver wanted more and told me that he needed more to pay for the hotel commision that he must pay. It was a comfortable car, but the driver blasted his music.

Very thin walls and noisy, inconsiderate guests.

First of all, thank you to Expedia for chasing up my reservation when the hotel initially denied receiving it. As for the hotel, the staff are nice enough; Gerry, the bell boy is very helpfiul in giving you tips on where to find cheap eats and drinks in the area and speaks great English. My room had a nice view of half of the Zocalo cathedral, which is less than 5 mins. walk away. I had a great breakfast in the hotel restaurant for 80 pesos.

The walls in the room were very thin and I could hear everything...yes, even that. Lucky them! Other guests would be knocking on each other's doors for a chat in the corridor at midnight-02;00 hrs. Noisy, inconsiderate people.

Lo que observé es que el personal de recepción parecía que estaban de mal humor, no daban buena información o trato, no tenían lista la documentación de cuando se hace una reservación a través de internet y tampoco sabían si ya estaba pagado o no, muy mal la verdad, aparte de que yo solicité desde el momento de la reservación que se pudiera acceder antes de las 3pm porque llegaría temprano, y no me lo permitieron, porque ni siquiera sabían que había una reservación, no revisaron nada y la recepcionista nada de amable. La habitación no tenía toallas de mano, poco papel higiénico, y pues está vez fue una mala experiencia. Ojalá mejoren en la atención y eficiencia en cuanto al personal de recepción. Gracias

Una calle atrás del centro, cuenta con estacionamiento. Es un hotel viejito, pero a comparación de otros (hasta más nuevos) no tiene problemas con el agua caliente.
Su restaurante es básico, pero bueno, desayunos competos y ricos, servicio muy rápido.
Frente hay una taqueria y un café con buenas opciones.
