Older hotel with much charm in excellent location. Fantastic breakfast. Owner went out of her way to make us comfortable. For example, she packed us a special breakfast on our last day when we had to leave early. Room was very plain, but clean. The important things such as shower pressure and temperature were all very good.

Really lovely place - very flexible and accommodating. Clean rooms and bathrooms. Lovely dated decor and right next to everything.

We missed breakfast but they offered us coffee and a croissant on the house. We appreciated this kind touch, as we were quite hungover! All the staff were friendly and lovely. Grazie Mille!

A little gem

Booked for bank holiday weekend, Friday to Monday, with my two grown up children, in a family room. We have visited Stresa for about 15yrs, and have in the past stayed in the luxury hotels along the lakefront, and apartments, but I can honestly say we loved this little hotel! It felt warm, friendly, and is right in the central square.
The staff and owners are so friendly and helpful. We had a completely relaxed and happy break, and we will definitely return to this little gem.

Small hotel right in the centre

This is a little local hotel right in the centre of the main square. Great place for people watching! The rooms are above a little bar. It's very traditional and not at all modern but adds to its charm. We were in a family room that had one double and two single beds. There is a fan but no air conditioning so the room can become quite warm during hot weather. The local church bells chime at 8 am and play about 3 verses of Ave Maria so works well as an alarm clock!!

Breakfast is yogurt, fruit, pastries, cold meats etc and great coffee. Would most definitely recommend this place. Room are cleaned on a daily basis. You can't get much more central.

A small place in a great area. Very basic hotel with character. We had a larger room with 3 beds which gave us plenty of space for suitcases, with a balcony overlooking the square. It was close to everything. laura the owner was very helpful and went over and above. Was a lovely stay :)

A lucky find!

Hotel Elena is a short walk from the train station, all downhill. It sits at the edge of Stresa's key piazza, filled with bars, restaurants and shops. The pizza is quiet in the morning, bustling the rest of the day and night. The tour boats, like everything else, are a short walk away. We especially enjoyed the locally sourced dinners at Due Piccioni.

Hotel is cute, well cared for if a bit dated; tasty breakfast. Customers loud talking/shouting and music at Bar Elena-opposite the hotel--made peaceful sleep challenging. skip this place if you are a light sleeper or value your rest.

Perfect One Star Hotel

The Elena is an unpretentious hotel supplying an excellent place to rest. The Elena is scrupulously clean and peacefully quiet with an attentively understated, outstanding level of service. Thus the Elena fulfilled precisely what I was looking for in a hotel at an attractive price. I am not well versed in the hotel star rating system (I am constantly shocked at the poor performance of most five stars that nightly charge for a single night what costs a week at the Elena). I am a light sleeper so quiet comfort are valued above all. For me, the Elena earns five stars. The room is very basic - the beds were firm as is my preference, had a nice balcony facing away from the Piazza (quiet residential), ample closet storage. The internet performed well and consistently. The shower/toilet is compact but performed well. The breakfast included great coffee and fresh bakery goods, yogurt and fruit and juice. There is no concierge lurking in an oversized lobby, no pool or work out gym. If you need these, the Elena is not for you. Here the proprietor is quietly efficient in all the billing, local points and recommendations personalized for you should you need them - totally unobtrusive. Yet if you need to leave before dawn, she was there to offer me my regular doppio espresso and the morning's fresh, warm brioche to prepare me for my day. The Elena is well located on a major pedestrian only Piazza Generale Luigi Cadorna. I stayed a week and the consistency fulfilled my expectations.

In the heart of Stresa

This small hotel is in a great location in the centre of Stresa. On arrival the staff were friendly and helpful and were lovely throughout my stay. The hotel is simple and basic but has everything you need for a short stay at a good price. The room was cleaned daily and whilst small was very comfortable. It had a small balcony with a view of the hills and was quiet. The bathroom was clean and modern and had a good powerful shower. The room had a safe, fridge and ceiling fan. TV was only Italian channels. The bed was comfortable and I slept very well. Breakfast was simple but adequate with good coffee. The hotel also has a public bar. There were no mosquitoes!

Great location, low cost, but poor conditions.

The place is located at the center of Stresa. 3 min walk to bus station, 15 min walk to train station, 5 minutes from the lake and the boats. It is surrounded by restaurants and night life. it's also very reasonably priced. The problem is there is no AC !!! So when it's 35C outside its very hot in the room. The other problem is the noise. To keep room cooler you have to keep windows and balcony door open at all times. The outside notice subside 1-2am and AM noise starts at 7 am. If you go to bed late you can't sleep in the morning and if you go bed 11-12 and can't sleep until 1-2am. Hotel breakfast is not bad.

We stayed only one night, but look forward to returning when we can spend more time! The Elena hotel is on a charming square, only a block from the waterfront. Our balcony overlooked the square, and our triple room was quite adequate. It's simple and older, but very clean and comfortable. And the lady at the front desk if wonderful. Very patient and considerate, helpful and pleasant. We had to leave very early in the morning, and she helped us settle our bill the night before and met us at the front door at 5:45 a.m. to help us get out and to our car, smiling despite the unreasonable hour! There a nice little bar and tea room on the ground floor, in addition to the check-in.

Quaint little hotel

Spent our first 2 nights in Italy at the Hotel Elena. It was exactly what I thought Italy would be like. The staff was friendly and helpful, the room was clean and adequate. Like others have stated, I am not sure why it is only a one star hotel. It is nothing fancy, but we loved it. The breakfast was wonderful. We had a great view from our balcony and the location is convenient to everything in Stresa. My only complaint was the bed. Not the most comfortable, but it was like every other bed that we stayed in in Italy.

The hotel is very well posistioned in the heart of Stresa, easy distance from the ferry terminal. Our room was large with a balcony overlooking the square, but this was a family room so cant say about the size of other rooms. Clean, lovely breakfast and delicious pastries.

This one star hotel charges three star prices and gives four star value.
It is right on the square and we had a small balcony overlooking it with a table and chairs. Spacious room, nice bathroom and really homely breakfast area for the continental breakfast.
Beautiful decor, the owner obviously takes great pride in it.
Rooms may not be air conditioned, although the bar and breakfast area is. We stayed in October and the central heating was great.

Everything just right except the bed

The room was very nice, clean, and cheerful with a lovely tiny balcony. The bathroom was spotless. The towels were almost like linen dish towels rather than terrycloth, but they were absorbent enough. Breakfast was included and there was a fairly good assortment of meat, cheese, yogurt, juice,and rolls. Coffee was good. We liked the location on the main square. We visited in the fall and the temperature of the room was comfortable. (There was a ceiling fan, but I don't know if air conditioning is needed in the summer. ) In fact, our only complaint was the quality of the mattress. If you are the sort of person who can easily fall asleep on the floor, you will like the bed; otherwise, you will have difficulty sleeping...the mattress is beyond firm...more like hard as a board, and neither of us slept well.

This was our third visit to Stresa. In the past we've stayed at Hotel du Parc and Hotel Astoria. We found Elena to be better than these hotels due to the location. It is PERFECT! We travelled with two young children and it was great that at night to go to dinner we never had to walk far, to get to the ferry or tourist train as well was a short distance. If we were to go in warm weather, I would consider going to a hotel along the waterfront that has a pool. The hotel staff were excellent, very helpful in recommending excellent restaurants and calling on our behalf to make reservations. The breakfast was great (for Italy) with plenty of fresh fruit, yogurt, cereal, breads, etc., but the highlight was the amazing coffee. Many people come to the cafe run by the hotel for their coffee and we got unlimited cups of it for free in the morning. We stayed in a quad room overlooking the square. Our only complaint of the room was the lack of 'storage' space (there were countless hangers and space to hang everything, but with little children's clothes, we would prefer a shelf or drawer somewhere). This is a very minor point and did not take away from our visit.

I don't have a bad word to say about Hotel Elena. The staff are wonderful and the lady who runs the hotel is very friendly. She also speaks several languages. We felt like part of the family. I have no idea why this hotel only has 1 star. The hotel is very centrally located in Stresa main square. Unusually for Italy, the breakfasts were ample and included muesli and fruit juice as well as cakes and croissants. Good coffee too! There is free wifi, which doesn't work in the bedrooms, but you can sit for hours in the cafe downstairs without anyone bothering you. The rooms were clean and the shower had great power and plenty of hot water. My mattress was a little lumpy (you could feel some of the springs) but that was my only discomfort. We would love to return to Hotel Elena and heartily recommend it.

Friendly hotel set in a vibrant area of Stresa.

The Hotel Elena is set in the Piazza Cardona, a vibrant square in Stresa.
It is a traditional, friendly, family run hotel.
Our room at the front of the hotel, had a balcony looking over the Piazza, with views of the surrounding mountains
For us, it was the perfect vibrant location, sited in a Piazza, containing numerous restaurants, cafes and shops, yet only a short walk to the lake and ferry terminus.

One word of caution, due to the location of our room overlooking the Piazza, there was a good deal of conversational noise emanating from the restaurants below. We enjoyed this, as it added to the surrounding ambience, but it may not appeal to everyone.

It is really hard to believe this is only a one star hotel. It is right in the centre of town in a lovely square full of restaurants and only 5 mins from the lake/ferries. The rooms are very clean and well cared for, all have a small balcony with table/chairs and lovely to sit and watch the world go by. The breakfast has a good choice of rolls/croissants etc and topped up regularly. English is spoken and staff all very helpful. This is definitely one not to miss if you want a clean well appointed place to stay at a reasonable price.

Right in the heart of Stresa

How this hotel is only a one star is beyond belief! We stayed in lake garda in a three star hotel and this is as good as.Situated in a lovely square a stones throw from lake,boats.We went in may which was not too busy but weather was a bit changeable but warm.We stayed in room 418,top floor at back of hotel,views of rooftops and mountains were pleasant as the front of hotel faced the square which gets the hot afternoon sun and a bit of noise from the square. Hotel is a bit dated but quaint,clean and very nice hosts who helped with any query.I like cooked breakfast but we got continental as expected,very nice though but same choice everyday.We would return here but Lake Maggiore is not as nice as Lake Garda.

Having booked to stay 5 nights, on the basis of reviews from websites/guidebooks we left after the first night. The establishment is a very basic one star establishment which did not meet our expectations. The bedroom had not been cleaned to an acceptable standard and we had to wipe down surfaces including tables and headboards which were noticeably dusty. The walls were very thin and noise of snoring could be heard from adjoining room. The lack of air conditioning was also a factor for us.

Hôtel très bien situé au centre de Stresa.Il est près de la gare, il permet l accès au bus pour aller au lac d Orta, et bien sûr de l embarcadère pour les 3 îles.
