I used Expedia as always to book one night at the Hilton hotel in Brooklyn, but the Expedia website opened True by Hilton in Brooklyn site in which I was booked and charged ( non refundable) at that hotel. At the BrooklynHilton I found out that I do not have a booking with them, and I had to pay full rate to get a room for one night stay. They also told me that Expedia has done this to other customers before. This was a big disappointment for me after having used Expedia for well over 10 years to find that they use such tricks on their customers for probably a few extra dollar in commission.

Hotel was very clean. Staff helpful, especially the man running the breakfast buffet. Breakfast was a better than typical free breakfast buffets. The only con was the over spraying of floral air freshener in the lobby. Was so strong you could taste it. The room thankfully didn’t have any odor. Would recommend to anyone visiting the area. Price point was perfect.

The room had dirt on the floor and long hair on the desk. Soap dispenser design receives one star as it feels unsanitary. You have to firmly squeeze the bottle and bodily fluids like feces or urine on the dispensers may be present. In addition, if you have carpal tunnel syndrome or arthritis, the dispenser design is not difficult to use. The front desk associate was friendly.

Break fast pretty good. Clean building, but the room very cold at nights, i spend 2 nights there. The hot water in the breakfast area never hot, its just warm all the time, so i cant get a hot tea. I wish there was better signage/communication about parking. Online it said space for 40, first come, first served. Both on the website and when we arrived there was no clear communication about where parking was. There was a VERY skinny alley way with no signage, which we had to double park on the street, and run in to inquire at the front desk before we turned down to use. Once parked that entrance was locked to get into the Building and we had to wait for the front desk attendant to let us in.

Otherwise checkin was fairly easy, and we were given a bag with complimentary snacks which was a nice touch.

Insanely expensive for what it was. The bedding smelled like unwashed bodies and dirty hair, the elevator doors were screeching the entire stay, the temperature in the room was impossible to regulate and there was hair everywhere in the room and bathroom. The shower leaked into the bathroom and bedroom area as well. Not thrilled with any of it.

Decent Stay, but Misleading Parking Costs

I stayed at Tru by Hilton Brooklyn from November 14 to 15. The hotel itself was clean, simple, and comfortable. The staff were polite and the room served its purpose for a short stay. I would have gladly given a higher rating, but the parking situation pulled the experience down.

Their so-called self-parking is misleading. Nowhere was it made clear that parking comes with a forty-dollar-per-night charge. If I had known about this extra cost, I would have chosen a different hotel without hesitation. A surprise fee like that leaves a bitter taste, especially when every dollar matters in New York.

The hotel has potential, and the stay was not terrible, but honesty about costs goes a long way. For that reason, I can only give three stars.

Staff was courteous, good location. Room comfortable other than flashing light above bed interrupting your sleep. Having pool table is nice and in a spacious area with access to tea and coffee. Main issue was something was triggering (3 out of 4 of us) our allergies and put tickle in our throat. Lounge had mildew smell. Once we left the hotel we were mostly fine, just lasting impact of allergies. Other than mildew/allergy issue, would stay there again, but won't take that chance. Also, having own parking is nice but only stairs in the back to bring your luggage, there should be a ramp from parking. If you can't bring luggage up stairs, need to go all around to front of hotel which is inconvenient.

This charming hotel sits right in the west village, walking distance to great restaurants, contemporary galleries, art museum and so much more. We walked all over the surrounding streets, happened onto “Tea & Sympathy” a British style tea shop to rest our feet.
The hotel has a cozy lounge where you can sit by a gas fire and relax watching the guests come in and out.

We were greeted at the front desk by the very friendly and helpful Amanda! She checked our bags since we were a little early. She knew my name and spoke to me every morning. The hotel is right around the corner from the subway and there are so many fun shops and places to eat on 5th Ave- which is just a block and a half away. There is a market on the corner of President St. and 4th Ave with lots of options - this is about a 2-minute walk. The hotel has a large, clean, and inviting space for the continental (complimentary) breakfast and 24-hour coffee/tea service. There is a microwave on the main level to heat up left-overs. We enjoyed the room fridge as well. This hotel is very clean, spacious, and in a wonderful area. In addition to the subway, we ordered an Uber and it was one-minute away. Lots of places are walkable as well and I rented a Citi-Bike on the corner and rode it over to Prospect Park. We had such a wonderful visit and are so happy we chose this hotel - will definitely stay here again!

I will stay here again with the parking on site and proximity to the subway our nyc trip was made a little easier just with those 2 things. Room was nice and clean. Room AC was a little wonky with not cooling the room really great and towels were scratchy. The staff was friendly. Free breakfast and it was pretty decent. The area felt safe walking back at night 11PM.
