Our room was ground level and faced a smaller, quieter pool. The resort has many nice walking paths including a lit path that runs around the perimeter of the resort, which we walked every evening. We used the gym many times during our stay which had what we needed as well as fresh fruit, clean towels and water. The beach area at Occidental Punta Cana is beautiful. It has plenty of space and lots of lounge chairs. The staff in all areas of the resort were very friendly and helpful.

We will however consider time of year for future travel as well as knowing what resorts have large hosted groups of school/college party groups attending.

This resort should be called Accidental Punta Cana. Booked room online. Arrived there. Front desk said no rooms availables. Had to fight with them to get a room. Overpriced for 5 hours stay. They wanted cash to have a better rate. No control over the students that were there for Spring Break. They yelled, fought, swear and everything was ignored. “It’s Spring Break” they said. We heard these students yelling until 4am. The rooms are NOT sound proof. No one did anything. Trash Resort.

Room close to ocean. Walking distance to ocean 1 min. Food is not good. Seafood restaurant food taste like tv dinner. Buffet has good sweets and pastries but cooked food taste not good. Alcohol is weak. Not even a buzz. You should tip to get stronger. Beautiful pools everywhere. Night club was good. Just reggaeton no rap no r&b no reggae this is not a party hotel. Besides the club the nightly entertainment is boring. If you just want a nice place to sleep but you will be off property during the day then its perfect. Tour people in the lobby. Great tours with multiple things to do in 1 tour.

The resort itself is very nice, clean, and well kept…HOWEVER, the food was horrible. Like so bad I completely skipped meals sometimes. The main buffet is full of beans, like 30 different cuts of sausages, rice and boiled potatoes, the buffet by the beach disappointed far worse as it served the same terrible foods for breakfast and lunch. Sausages and beans. The drinks were also awful, no matter what I order I end up with something random in a cup handed to me. No joke when I order a tequila sunrise and get a purple drink it leaves me questioning what I’m even drinking, and this happened with numerous drinks/day. Third…this is a college spring break HOT SPOT which I was not aware of. Meaning the place was invaded with obnoxious frat guys and annoying sorority girls who all travel in herds anywhere alcohol is being served, want to go to the pool bar? Forget it, at least 100+ frat/sorority children there and standing at the bar instead of having the common sense to order your drink and take it elsewhere so other people can order too. The lobby bar after 6pm when the pool bar opens? GOOD LUCK, the entire lobby bar/lounge gets completely over run and looks like a college town dive/frat bar. Once again, they all stand there at the bar for hours 3/4 rows of people deep and there’s only about 2/3 bartenders for each bar so good luck ordering when the herd of people with an IQ of 40 are ordering drink after drink after drink.

This was a good resort for the price we paid. My main complaint is regarding our sink that was clogged sometimes beyond use for most of your stay. I asked them to fix it and they came and plunged it for about 20 mins, making it drain \"a bit better\". I was told to call if problem persisted. I didn't bother, as we developed a way around it and had 2 other rooms we use if needed!
The pools and beach were great! Lobby bar excellent. À la carte were good! Beach buffet in the morning was nice! We had a great time until the bus loads of spring breakers pulled in and overtook every spot of everywhere!

Everything went wrong in our room some of the outlets didn't work and when they finally tried to fix them our fan and air conditioning stopped working and we had to change rooms in the middle of the night. When we changed rooms the safe in the new room didn't work and the fan above the toilet dropped water on us when we sat down. Our Concierge did his best to help us with our needs and all of the people we dealt with were very nice . The food was just okay and if they maintained their rooms it would a great place. The beach is absolutely stunning.

This resort was by far the cleanest place I’ve stayed at thus far. The staff was the sweetest and our concierge Ricardo went above and beyond to ensure that our daughter’s 21st bday trip was absolutely amazing. We would definitely recommend this resort and plan to return ourselves.

We booked on Expedia a jr suite non royal. Check in was long. They couldn't locate our reservation and took time for them to realize we needed to check in at the Expedia desk. We were in bldg 24 first floor room. Location was awesome right by the pool and close to food areas. Room was standard.. some areas could have been cleaned better. Beds were ok, not great. Shower has no curtain or door. Lock in our room was broken, they fixed it right away. A la carte dinners were all delicious except we didn't care for the seafood restaurant or lunch at that same spot either.. sad because its the best location oceanside. It was dirty, staff didn't seem happy/friendly, and food was terrible. Easy to get dinner reservations in lobby. Was able to get a reservation for every night. Shout out to staff at pizza and taco bar. open 6 pm to 6 am every day.. could live off that.. entertainments great, but music was too loud at every activity. Foam party was fun. Buffet was hit or miss .. but could always find something we could eat. Pool snack bar was our go to for lunch and enjoyed the chicken wings. Pools, grounds, & selection of drinks all great. Beach is beautiful, plenty of chairs & shade from palm trees. Lots of vendors but we like that. Had a wonderful massage.. make a deal with nelson mendela. Staff were AMAZING! loved all of the lobby bar staff. Not a huge resort but large enough to not feel crowded. Overall a good budget resort that we enjoyed for a week getaway for some sunshine.

Beautiful resort! Didn’t love the staff they weren’t that friendly but it didn’t really matter. Food was good, resort needs a lot more shaded covered areas near the pool and beach. Cleaning services were a little strange, I think they were always short on towels because after each time our room was cleaned they never left us towels and we always had to go get them ourselves. Again, not a big deal. Front desk workers were lovely but excursion workers that help you book were quite rude. Had a lot of issues with the shower and sink water just stopped working a couple times. Overall I wouldn’t stay agin but I did still enjoy my stay for the price

We had a fantastic experience at Occidental Punta Cana. From the moment we arrived, the staff was incredibly welcoming and made us feel right at home. Throughout our stay, everyone was friendly, attentive, and eager to help.

The property is absolutely immaculate. The staff is constantly cleaning, maintaining, and touching up the resort; you can tell they take pride in keeping everything beautiful. One thing that really stood out to us was how well they manage pests. There were virtually no bugs anywhere on the property, which is impressive for a tropical destination.

The drinks were very good and the bartenders keep them flowing! Service overall was excellent.

If you are traveling from the United States, I highly recommend bringing plenty of U.S. dollars. The staff clearly prefers dollars over pesos, and we learned the hard way that we were charged more for excursions when paying in pesos.

The only area that could use improvement is the food. While some of the buffet options were just okay, the steakhouse and the Mexican restaurant were both excellent and definitely worth booking.

Overall, we truly enjoyed our stay and would return. Beautiful grounds, welcoming staff, great service, strong drinks; just bring your dollars and make your dinner reservations early!

Mediocre resort. Rooms are ok, with nice patios. Pools and beach were wonderful, but you gotta get chairs early. Also there’s little shade at the pools- highly recommended bringing your own sun umbrellas to attach to the lounges. Lots of decent food options for most, but the protein options for vegetarians is lacking (veggie dishes are literally just vegetables). Drinks were solid and free flowing. Service was either fantastic or you thought the person hated their job.

Buffet and restaurant food was sustainable but not good. Meat is not butchered the same as in U.S. Unidentifiable pieces of meat with a lot of fat. Hamburgers are a mix of ground meats with a heavy spice mix that was quite unpalatable. Salt and pepper were never on the tables, had to hunt someone down and ask for it at the buffet. The best thing I had was the soups and a vegetable rice dish.
No towels in room upon arrival. Had to beg for wash cloths. Called three times and received one for two people in room. Finally left money and a gracious note for housekeeping requesting two wash cloths a day and beverage preference. Received the wash cloths but never again after that for the reminder of the week. The grounds were well maintained. Several broken beach chairs and needed twice as many on the beach. People were out at 6am staking claim to chairs at pool and beach only to be left unused all day. Husband stated the gym was small and equipment was as old as the resort and not in good condition. Rooms and resort were clean.

The resort is amazing. I’d give our room a 9 out of 10. The staff are absolutely awesome and the spa services are as good as any in the United States-had a relaxation massage -bought it through Charles the King. The grounds are beautiful. The food sustains you but is not good (I’d give it a 3 or 4 out of 10). Most of the time we didn’t know what we were eating. The power goes out often but thankfully only for a short while (10-15 minutes). That is likely the Dominican infrastructure. There are not enough lounge chairs at the beach and people put down towels and belongings and disappear for hours on end. It’s not easy to get drinks at the beach unless you are royal or vacation club. I’d go back to a resort in the Dominican Republic as long as they remain reasonable.

The room was clean and well-maintained, but we found there to be some mildew in the shower stall. The electrical receptacles were insufficient and not so easy to access. The furniture was dated although functional. I had to contact service desk to have in-room safe repaired. Some time was taken in my wait for technician to arrive to service the device.
We found all of the staff very attentive, pleasant and friendly with smiles all around throughout the resort.
The drinks were plentiful whenever desired, the food was also always available for snacking if desired, while the breakfast buffet was abundant and widely varied and the restaurants on site were also easy to access. This included the chair lift on the beautiful staircase, accommodating my wife's moderate ambulatory needs cheerfully operated by security attendant. The restaurants had satisfactory portions. However, we found the food although reasonably tasty, was not quite up to our expectations with respect to quality.
We found the pool was great, expansive and well-maintained as were the deck facilities (cots, towels), although some of the pavement was quite rough and should be resurfaced.
The grounds were quite lovely and meticulously maintained. The staff and services were always available and helpful whenever needed.

We spent a wonderful week with another couple. The royal level is amazing. They made sure our rooms were close and we had everything we could possibly need. The beach is perfect and the bar was great Sayonara Mateo and Enrique Reyes were superb. They learned our routines in a day and we never had to ask they just know what you want. The beloved restaurant was top notch. The team Hipolito Perez Mariana Sano Wendy Pena made sure every meal was inviting and the food was excellent. We had a perfect relaxing vacation.

When we got there, the room wasn’t ready till well past 6pm. The resort had no water bc of a water main break and the public bathrooms were basically overflowing with urine and feces bc the toilets couldn’t flush. I had 4 rooms booked and they messed up everyone’s room and we had to keep going back to get our room keys reactivated bc every time they activated a key, it deactivated another key.

The food was horrible. And when I say horrible, that is an understatement. My daughter ended up in the hospital. It cost us 350$US just to see the resort doctor and then he sent us to the hospital where it cost another 5000$ and 700$ to change her flight to leave early to go back home to Canada where she was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning. And instead of refunding our money for her last 3 days, they put someone else in her room that was already paid for and double dipped off of us. My daughter and one of our friends spent 3 days throwing up and diarrhea before they went home to see a proper doctor.

The hair dryer in my son’s room was sparking and catching fire. After waiting 45 mins for someone to come, they shut the power off and cut the cord bc the dryer is hardwired into the wall. No one seemed concerned.

The bedroom curtains are full of black mould.

The housekeeper snapped my son’s phone charger out of the wall and we had to throw it out.

The buffet food was very questionable so we tried using the specialty restaurants and they were disgusting. There’s so much more.

The resort itself was beautiful and very clean, but unfortunately the staff was neither welcoming nor friendly. Getting service felt like pulling teeth. On several occasions, my wife and I sat at the bar for 30 mins without being acknowledged. When I was finally served, the staff didn't speak any English and simply stared at me as if I had five heads. This was surprising since the website claims multiple languages are spoken however, we only encountered three people who spoke English during our entire stay.The constant solicitation was also incredibly annoying. People would follow us from one side of the resort all the way to the lobby offering \"gifts\" to sell us something, even after we repeatedly said we weren't interested. Additionally, the food options were very limited and did not meet my expectations.The resort has so much potential, but the staff truly brings the experience down. When walking by employees, there is no eye contact, no greeting, and not even a smile.The final straw occurred the day before our departure. We went to the lobby to arrange our transportation, as instructed. The staff member I believe her last name was Ramirez was no help at all. Despite being given all the necessary information, she claimed she couldn't do anything because the number was \"not in service\" and told us we had to figure it out ourselves. I then called that exact same number myself and set everything up while she was on her cell phone At that point, i was done with the vacation.

It was my second time in a Barceló and I was not expecting such a terrible experience. The food was awful (I got food poisoning during my stay), drinks are clearly mixed with water and low quality. The restaurants offer a really bad dining experience - in one of the restaurants, I literally took 15 minutes to eat a 3 course dinner, because of the size of each plate. The waiters take a long time to take your orders and many times forget, so you have to remind them (in the 4 restaurants I went, I always asked for a second drink and never got it). Sometimes it looked like they were doing us a favor. The rooms were dirty, with a lot of humidity and smelled like a sewer. Regarding the beach, they had rules written that you could not reserve the beach beds but everyone did it, so by 10 am you could not get one (and the beach was almost empty). The “vigilantes” at the beach saw that and did nothing. Also, the activities scheduled are unreliable. Also, don’t get fooled by the pictures you see on the internet, as these were clearly taken several years ago. If you want to have a vacation on a budget, I’m sure there are better quality options out there.

Bathroom shower ceiling was dripping water and about to collapse. There was no free room service when we got there. When I booked they had offered free room service. Bed was hard, tv was gona fall off the wall, and our ac broke for a night and half a day until it started to work again. The restaurant food was 2 out of 10. Most food came out cold and the ribs were hard a heck. I will not be returning to this resort.

Arrived 12/31/25.NYE. Waited 1.5 hrs in line to check in to hotel!! Horrible! Room was dirty. Hair on bed. Had them reclean room. 1 out of 10 staff members/bartenders spoke English. Most of bartender staff seemed annoyed they had to serve us and very unhappy looking. They seemed to cater more to spanish speaking persons. Food was 2 out of 10. Resort itself seemed clean. Beach was beautiful. 1 and done visit. We will never go back.

The resort was well taken care of , however it is not even close to a five star resort . When you travel to the Dominican Republic one expects Domestic beer not Coors light like we drink back home “ when I inquired about this with royal club guest services, I was told to go into town and purchase my own Presidente light “WOW” this is not how you treat top tear customers. The main buffet food choices were just ok , we only had excellent food once we ate in the royal club restaurant every day . Our room had an infestation of ants.

So all this being said I will not stay at this resort again , and any resort that tells a customer to go into town and purchase there own local beer truly doesn’t understand customer service.

The staff was beyond amazing as usual, the original room that was given to us smelled greatly of mold. We then requested another room, and said room was perfectly fine. The food was very repetitive and cold the whole time at the buffet restaurants however the at La carta restaurants were extremely good.

Some staff was not very friendly. Asked twice for beer to be delivered to room and never got it. Son and daughter got food poisoning asked for extra water never came had to find our own. Food is horrible. Will not be back.

Room was nice. Staff was generally friendly and helpful. Pool and beach were clean. Food was okay, but not amazing. Some bartenders were great but some didn't know what they were doing and didn't know how to make the drinks they offered on their menu. All in all, it was a very typical all-inclusive resort. The family had a nice time.

Staff were excellent, rooms need updating , sheets on bed were always damp and cold , nightly entertainment was above average , no beach bar for standard Bracelet which is very odd ,been to lots of resorts and this is usually a given . Food was average with lots of selection .

The resort as a whole was nice, the beach was very beautiful. We were very impressed by our ambassador Esteban Astacio, he help us where ever he could.It was apparent that things were at or near capacity. There were long lines at the bars and the servers everywhere were being pulled in all directions. I can accept the lines, getting a chair or a place on the beach at high season. The real problem was the sanitation, lack of chlorine in the pools and questionable tap water in the rooms which we did not drink. Five out of seven of our group left the resort with travellers diarrhoea. We are just getting over it a week later.

It’s a very good property. As a vegetarian, I expected it to be hard to find options here but it turns out if you do communicate to them that you are vegetarian they help you find options and overall we were able to find food we could eat and enjoy.

We booked 4 rooms for a family vacation for the holidays, plus a birthday. When my son got to his room it looked like it had been rush cleaned with hair still in the bathroom and worst of all - blood in one of the beds!! Yes, blood! The bathrooms especially look like they need a good cleaning and update. One of the other rooms had a smell like wet dog!! At any of the buffets, trying to find a clean plate was a mission - we would walk around in circles and at times had to ask a worker for one. At the buffet stations there is literally one tong to grab the food for MULTIPLE options. So people had to wait till someone finished with an entirely different food option than you want, so you can use the tong. I saw numerous people just picking things up with their fingers out of impatience or hunger!!! If you are a coffee lover or just like a morning cup of joe - DON’T EXPECT GOOD, ACCESSIBLE COFFEE. My goodness it was so difficult to get coffee no matter the time of day. They use these machines that make all different kinds of hot drinks. First off it tastes terrible and most of the time it was out of milk - the milk that you did get was watery. No matter how much milk I put, it could not lighten up the coffee. As for service, it was nearly non existent. There aren’t people walking around asking if you need anything or even walking around to maintain the cleanliness of the buffet areas!!! This was the worst resort in Punta Cana that I have stayed at and will not be coming back!!!!

Occidental Punta Cana Review

We traveled to Occidental Punta Cana as a group of 10, ages 11 to 46, and had an amazing time. The beach was absolutely breathtaking with soft white sand and beautiful turquoise water. The resort itself is large, very clean, and easy to get around.

The food was great with lots of variety. We tried the Mexican, Oriental, and Italian restaurants — all were delicious. The wood-fired pizza was everyone’s favorite and quickly became a daily must-have. Our rooms were cleaned every day, which we really appreciated.

The nightly shows at the theatre were entertaining and well done. Five of us went to Coco Bongo and it was an absolute blast — highly recommend if you enjoy nightlife and high-energy shows.

All 10 of us did the dune buggy excursion with a cenote swim, and it was a fantastic 4.5-hour adventure. Tip: bring $1 USD bills to hand out to the local kids along the way — they run up to greet you and it felt good to share. This excursion was one of the highlights of our trip.

We also rented a private boat with a water slide for about six hours. It included pizza, unlimited drinks, snorkeling, and tons of fun — worth every penny and perfect for a group.

Weather was great overall. It only rained the first night and briefly once in the late afternoon, but it didn’t stop us — we just enjoyed the pool. Temperatures stayed around 27–28°C the entire time.

Overall, we had a blast!!! And it was a perfect Christmas 🎄

Very good location!! All the services and restaurants had good food...staff was friendly and always ready to help.

I am putting the review and keeping the expectations based on the money we spent here compared to anywhere else.

Best value for your buck...I would certainly recommend it.

The resort exterior is clean and the pools are nice. Great beach location. The Buffett was not good but the Italian and Mexican restaurant was great! Rooms were outdated and were not very clean. I would spend a little more money and stay at another resort next time.
