We had a wonderful time staying at Occidental for five nights. The property was spotless and exuded a serene atmosphere. It’s an excellent destination for families, as they host a Mini Disco every night. My kids thoroughly enjoyed it. The buffet was satisfactory, though it could be improved with a wider variety of food options. The hotel’s beach area is breathtaking. Our housekeeper was exceptional; our room was always spotless and fresh upon our return.

Not a 5 star resort. Property was very clean. The staff was one of the best we have ever had on any vacation. Would suggest downloading translation app before trip. Rooms were old but very clean and spacious. Food at breakfast buffet lacked unless you had the fresh cook stations. Lunch buffet was a good step up from breakfast. Never tried the dinner buffet. Seafood, Mexican & Oriental restaurants were excellent. Italian rest wasnt good, food or staff. All inclusive drinks were excellant. Beach, palm trees & white sand was awesome.

I like everything about the property. What was not comfortable is that at the beach area are too many sellers standing right in front and next to the hosts in groups, they are looking to sell but there are too many, some watching and my wife didn't feel comfortable.

Nuestra experiencia en Occidental Punta Cana fue muy decepcionante. Desde la primera noche reportamos una filtración de agua proveniente del aire acondicionado en la habitación 24-204. El problema empeoró cada día hasta el punto de tener que colocar varias toallas en el piso para absorber el agua y evitar resbalones. Mi hija tiene una condición muscular y yo me encontraba recuperando de una lesión de tobillo, por lo que la acumulación de agua representaba un riesgo real de caídas. Además, la luz del pasillo no funcionaba y el ruido constante del agua hizo imposible descansar adecuadamente. Reportamos la situación en múltiples ocasiones al Front Desk, al representante de Expedia y a diferentes empleados, pero la solución llegó en nuestra última noche. Finalmente, los supervisores inspeccionaron la habitación, tomaron fotos, reconocieron el problema y nos cambiaron a otra habitación. Incluso tuvieron que abrir parte del techo para reparar la avería, demostrando que no se trataba de un problema menor. Quiero agradecer a Chocolate, Garibaldi Núñez, los supervisores y al personal de Via Veneto por su excelente atención y esfuerzo para ayudarnos. La cena especial que organizaron fue lo mejor de nuestras vacaciones. La solución tardía no compensó varios días de preocupación, falta de descanso y frustración. El hotel tiene un personal valioso, pero necesita mejorar urgentemente el seguimiento de las quejas y la atención a situaciones que ponen en riesgo la seguridad de sus huespedes.

I stayed on the property for 8 days and from day 1 room lights didn’t work. Told them everyday about it and no one ever came to fix it. Also had a leak in the closet all my clothes got wet. They never came to check it out. Stuff isn’t friendly at all, they put a smile on only when you tip ( that we did ). The only person that helped us out was someone called Ramon and he is in building 11 he is very friendly and helpful. Internet is terrible also. I will never stay there again.

Food is the main issue. And Im from S. America, so, when I read it, I thought it was a “American thing”. It is not. You won’t be close to hungry as there are so many options, but, you won’t have a “good experience” (not my 1st time in Punta Cana), even when going to the restaurants that requires reservations. Some, the food was good, but smaller than kids meals (@Italian). @seafood - where food was dry / old, and again, small portion. @steak house, I went there 2. (if you want red meat, thats IT, otherwise….). 1st time steak was undercooked and Uneatable. 2 time cooked right but smaller than 1st time. (Inconsistency). It was ok. If you leave in US, you probably won’t like it.
Night shows / entertainment were amazing. Very organized, entertaining.
Drinks are weak and sometimes, hard to get. They look good, taste ok, but, honestly, you are getting a lot more sugar than alcohol.
I had problems with my A/C (not working), as well, shower that stopped. They tried to solve ASAP. Still not good. But…
Location is very good, beach is beautiful, water is very turquoise and calm. Hotel is beautiful. I was already expecting some compromises.
Hate me: - not a “high class” (being very generous) experience/guests, if you are expecting meeting new people. Not horrible either. I would classify as “very popular resort”
It was good, but if I was to go back, I would look for another place.
Watch out for rent a car as they will ask for extra insurance and its EXPENSIVE. You won’t need a car.

The main pool area with the bar was so green and dirty that I didn’t dare to get in and that was the days of 9 10 11 and 12 of June. The manager of the main bar at the lobby was very disrespectful. but I don’t know his name. to the point that he came up to our sitting area to apologize afterwards, staff members they be harassing you to try to get the guest to buy a membership package and they hold you literally in room like almost for two hours and when you tell them, you don’t want to buy it they get extremely upset so that was my three main experience other than that buffet area was good staff member at that buffet area on both sides were great, but I will not ever go there again.

Loved the guy who was so happy in the mornings cracking eggs, did not like the attitude of bar staff sometimes, sometimes ignoring you or bypassing you to serve the next person. I wish they had bacon more often. Only once in our week there was there bacon served for breakfast. The room wasn't cleaned the greatest- still left hairs around the room and there's mold on the sealant behind the bathroom door but besides that we loved it, this was our second time at occidental punta cana. Make sure to bring toiletries you don't even think you'd need, example- a 19 pack of tampax is $30 US at the gift shop.

I stayed at the Occidental for 5 nights 6 days. I went into this trip with no expectations, and was solely just looking for a quick, inexpensive getaway. During my stay here, I was very surprised and enjoyed every second of my stay. The property is very well kept, as landscaping was always being done at all times throughout the day whether it be cutting the grass, or picking up garbage. The buffet was alright, but the restaurants were amazing, especially the Mexican restaurant. The food in the restaurants was cooked very well, they offered a lot of choices, and were great portions. The drinks were also fantastic, and the bartenders were amazing! The rooms could have been a little bit cleaner, but you are hardly in the room as is so it was definitely do-able for the 6 days I was here. We had a few issues with the water but the staff was on it immediately to help fix the problem. There are also 3 different pools. The main pool where the bars are was huge and had a little more action, and the ones located near the back was more quiet and shady. Both were great. The beach was also beautiful offering a lot of shade. Overall, I was very impressed with my stay here. As someone who doesn’t expect a lot of fancy, materialistic experiences, I thoroughly enjoyed my time here. I would definitely recommend this place for any couples who aren’t into the big party setting and are just looking for a lowkey, relaxing, and casual experience. I will definitely be coming back in the future!

En lo que tuve problema fue en la cenas a la carta que de tres noche solo nos sacaron a un restaurante que no era escogido por nosotros si no por ellos.. uno solo en tres noches. We love everything. But Italian restaurant need more authentic a lit bit.
Room need to renovated a lit bit. The fan in the bathroom, the a/c are too noisy to sleep.
The balcony light is never light again only first day. They control the balcony light.
But the house keeper lady is perfect .
Anyway. We love there. Will come back again !!

Sin duda es un hotel muy bonito, con buenas instalaciones y un personal en general amable y atento. Desde nuestra llegada, el servicio de recepción y limpieza fue excelente, manteniendo las habitaciones ordenadas, reponiendo bebidas diariamente y brindando una buena atención. Las camas eran muy cómodas y algunos detalles como las pizzas y tacos hasta la madrugada fueron realmente buenos.

Sin embargo, hay varios aspectos que deberían mejorar. En las habitaciones encontramos sábanas y sofás con manchas sospechosas, además de la presencia de cucarachas en 2 cuartos, lo cual fue muy desagradable. También se notaban áreas del baño con desgaste y partes oxidadas.

En cuanto a la comida, aunque había variedad, con frecuencia estaba fría. Sería útil contar con microondas o una forma de recalentarla. Los refrescos muchas veces estaban sin gas o sin hielo, y en ocasiones había que esperar bastante para ser atendido.

Otro punto es el transporte interno en carritos de golf, que no siempre estaba disponible rápidamente y en algunos casos parecía depender de propinas, lo cual afectó la experiencia, especialmente para personas mayores como mi padre de 71 años con dificultades de movilidad.

La piscina del medio también presentaba un olor fuerte a cloaca en varios momentos, lo que impedía disfrutarla. En general, el hotel tiene buen potencial gracias a su personal y estructura, pero necesita mejorar limpieza, mantenimiento y algunos servicios básicos. Escribiría más pero este es el limite.

Comida riquísima, el hotel muy cómodo, habitaciones grandes y cómodas, todo muy limpio pero en nuestra experiencia no fueron amables ni atentos. Hemos ido a diferentes hoteles en Punta Cana y en este la experiencia fue muy distinta al resto, no nos sentimos bien atendidos en ningún momento. Nos expresamos con Esteban Astacio y él si estuvo luego al pendiente en todo momento. Única persona que nos brindó un excelente servicio.

Positives: The room and property were clean. The food at the Royal Level restaurant, Oriental and Steak House restaurants, was good.

Negative: The food at the buffet was always cold and tasteless, the seafood restaurant was not good, and the service was very poor.

Extremely Negative: We booked an oceanfront room, but we were placed on the ground floor with no ocean view. I was told oceanfront can mean the room faces the ocean, but doesn't necessarily mean I can see it (please make it make sense). I said that if that's the case, there should be a disclaimer stating that, so people don’t pay extra for something they may not get. I was told that the only oceanfront rooms they had were in the “royal level” and would cost an extra $45 per person/night, and that it came with extra amenities. We paid the extra $270. When it was time to take a shower, they only had two large towels in the bathroom. My husband called down for two washcloths and was told they don't have any more. The next day, I called, and when I asked the lady, she just hung up (twice). The third time, the phone was busy. I went to the front desk to ask, and they said they would send them up. They never did. I saw a group of housekeeping ladies and asked for a washcloth. They all ignored me. I used my Google Translate and they still did not acknowledge me. I stood there and finally, one of them gave me two towels. I took a day and a half to get two washcloths.

We could not wait for the vacation to be over.

I like the fact that some staff members were friendly and willing to provide excellent services to customers. For example, at Caracolas María at the bar is friendly and helpful with all customers, the other girl from Higuey at the restaurant area is professional and friendly. Raquel at the Bodeguita. She is a Sweet lady who goes an extra mile interacting with customers, she take complaints and criticism from customers with courtesy and a smile while apologizing for any misunderstanding, and last but not the least Graciela the embassador from Expedia at the front desk. Graciela was willing to help my 11 family members to get rooms in the same building and close to each other. Thank you to all of you who are taking your job seriously demonstrating excellent social interaction with people and have great customer service skills. On the other, we found some staff members who may need assistance to improve their performance as employees of the organization. We enjoyed all the shows

Several things were pretty good. Like the pools, the beach, the nightly entertainment, especially Michael Jackson. Even the specialty restaurants were at least pretty decent.
The buffet was not very good. Coffee situation was really bad. Which is strange since you’re in the Dominican Republic, which has decent coffee beans. But worst of all was the weekend when they become overcrowded with locals visiting. I don’t know if it’s like that every weekend but if it is, I would avoid it on the weekends.

I have stayed at this hotel both as a standard guest and as a Royal Level guest, and honestly, I believe the standard experience offers much better value for money.

The hotel itself is good. The beach was enjoyable, the room was acceptable, and the food was generally okay. While the restaurant options were sometimes limited and lacked variety, the food was not terrible and I was able to find something to enjoy at most meals.

My main disappointment was with the Royal Level upgrade. For the highest-priced experience the hotel offers, it simply did not feel premium. One of the biggest issues was the lack of exclusive dining options during certain hours of the day. Despite paying for the VIP experience, there were periods when Royal Level guests had to rely on the same food outlets as everyone else, often dealing with long lines and crowded areas. I expected more convenience and exclusivity for the price.

The service also felt inconsistent. During checkout, no assistance was offered to transport my luggage to the lobby. Similarly, the beach towel service did not feel particularly premium, as I was instructed to exchange towels at the same location used by all guests rather than receiving a more personalized service.

The room was generally comfortable, although the sofa bed was extremely uncomfortable to the point that I could not properly sleep on it. The room also had some cleanliness issues, but nothing severe enough to ruin the stay.

Overall, I am giving this hotel 4 out

Great place to get away with family on a gorgeous beach. The resort cleans the seaweed regularly.

Upon arrival to the resort you need to scan passports for checking in, would be nice to do that before arriving.

The rooms we stayed in were kept clean but are dated. If you want a wash cloth just ask house keeping and they will start to provide it. All other towels are stocked.

We had 3 rooms. One had an AC problem. They moved us the next day. 1 of the 3 rooms needed to leave the door key in the black box next to the bathroom door to function AC. We left in all day to have a cool room.

The food is good. Please keep in mind they will make everything with a DR twist. It is all edible and you will not starve. The buffet has a lot of choices for all meals. Breakfast always had an egg station. All pastries are yummy and the fresh juices and yogurt yummy. Lunch options are the main buffet, beach buffet, and above pool bar. Pool bar typically had burgers, hotdogs, chicken, fries, rice, beans, and fruit. Remember the DR raises their own meats and produce. The meats all have a DR twist on taste and how they are served . Dinner is main buffet, taco bar, pizzeria, or reservations at the sit down restaurants.

On the first night you have to eat at buffet but make reservations upon arrival for the rest they automatically make you rotate through each option before making more. My family loved the Oriental and Mexican restaurants.

The staff is great and helpful.

I didn’t like that they didn’t change the towel every day and I like the small towel to put it on the floor in front of the shower but they took the one on the floor but didn’t replace it. I have to ask for towels to get new towels. Breakfast, staff and air conditioning was good. If we need to keep a key in the room for the light and air conditioning they should give an extra key to the guest.

Avoid this resort if you are looking for a relaxing family vacation. This was one of the worst hotel experiences my family has ever had.I booked 2 rooms for a family of six, and problems started on the very first night when the air conditioning in my teenagers’ room stopped working. After four calls to the front desk, they were finally moved after 10:30 PM. Unfortunately, the AC in the replacement room broke again a few days later, leaving them in an 80-degree room for hours while we repeatedly called for assistance.

The food was absolutely terrible. Every member of our party struggled to eat. My daughter and I became sick to our stomachs, and the milk served at breakfast was spoiled. Basic ingredients were unavailable, and the quality of the food was below what anyone should expect from an all-inclusive resort.

Speaking of “all-inclusive,” be aware that the restaurants require rsvp and were fully booked days in advance. Despite trying to reserve early, we were only able to eat at half of the advertised restaurants.
The resort also ran out of ice entirely, forcing guests to drink hot water, soda, and beverages. During dinner at the Italian restaurant, the air conditioning failed, making an already unpleasant dining experience unbearable.
Housekeeping was unacceptable. During our four-night stay, our room was cleaned only once despite repeated requests. No clean towels our room was cleaned only. Dead flies in our room. I would never stay here again! Ever

Nuestra experiencia en Occidental Punta Cana tuvo aspectos muy positivos y algunas áreas de mejora.

Llegamos un domingo y encontramos el buffet principal muy concurrido. Había largas filas, poca variedad de alimentos disponible en algunos momentos y dificultades para encontrar mesas limpias. El personal se veía haciendo todo lo posible por atender la alta demanda.

A partir del lunes la experiencia mejoró considerablemente. Queremos destacar especialmente a Ricardo Sánchez, nuestro embajador durante la estadía, quien estuvo siempre pendiente de nuestro grupo de 10 personas a través de WhatsApp. Gracias a su ayuda pudimos coordinar todas las reservas y disfrutar de todos los restaurantes temáticos del hotel.

Los restaurantes fueron uno de los puntos más fuertes de nuestra visita. Todos estuvieron excelentes, aunque recomendamos especialmente el de carnes y mariscos.

También queremos agradecer a Javier Abbad, quien nos atendió en el lobby durante varias noches. Su amabilidad, junto con el buen ambiente y la música, hicieron nuestras noches muy agradables.

Nos hospedamos de domingo a sábado, lo que nos permitió disfrutar plenamente de las instalaciones. Aunque los restaurantes superaron nuestras expectativas, entendemos que el buffet podría mejorar en variedad y sabor. Quizás, como puertorriqueños, estamos acostumbrados a una sazón diferente y esperábamos algo más cercano a ella.

I spent 7 nights and 8 days at this resort. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon and the check-in process was quick and easy. They gave us all the information and had set up 3 out of an available 7 dinner reservations at their restaurants (Mexican, Asian, Italian, Seafood and a steakhouse). We were not aware that the property is a place that locals go to on the weekend- so it was really busy on Saturday and Sunday. There were so many people and a lot of children. The main pool area was always loud because of the amount of people. They had food available at the buffet for all meal times and a snack bar for in between 11am-6pm. Food on the property was nothing to rave about and some of it was actually not well prepared in my opinion- that’s including the “fine” dining restaurants. Drinks were all free but most were more sugar than anything else.

The room we got was nice and clean. Housekeeping service wasn’t very attention detailed. After our second day, they took all the towels from the room and didn’t leave any for us. Then when we try to call on the phone to the front desk- we got hung up on when asking for someone who spoke English.

It was close to the beach and other than the seaweed for the time of year- it was really clean.

Overall, not terrible but I would consider another property the next time.

Our room in building 10-211 was beautiful. It was clean, with high vaulted ceiling and excellent air conditioning. The maid was great and filled our fridge daily with Presidente and soft drinks. Our building was close to all the restaurants and the main pool, but a few minutes walk to the beach. It was perfect! We visited all a la carte restaurants, it's hard to pick a favorite they were all great. I think the Italian was my favorite as it had the most options. The steaks at the steakhouse were also excellent as were the fajitas at the Mexican. The shows in the evening were entertaining. I really can't complain about anything, it has been a great relaxing week and we are sad to leave today. Thank you to all the staff for making our stay pleasant and memorable.

the only issue was the bathroom where there was a little mold and they water draining flow was poor. the shower for my room and my friends room were all the same will fill up and overflow and you had to be mindful of the length of time for the showers before the water comes over

The hotel and entertainment staff were extremely helpful and friendly. Always very polite and attentive to make us feel safe, comfortable and welcoming but we really don’t like the food. The snacks areas and buffet were running out of food most of the days. Also I would like the hotel to provide an area for teenagers like an arcade.

Quiero agradecer el gran trato brindado por todo el personal del hotel, su amabilidad, muy cordiales sobre todo las chicas y chicos del restaurante bufet, también a las chicas que trabajan en el bar del lobby, son geniales, trabajan muy fuerte, (no sean tan duros con ellas) por qué doy 4 estrellas y es porque considero que algo falló al conocer la cifras de huéspedes que tendrían el fin de semana que coincidió con mi estancia en el hotel, por momentos se terminaron algunos alimentos en restaurantes bufet tanto el principal como el que está en la línea de playa. We had a wonderful stay at Occidental Punta Cana! Everything was great, and we especially loved the convenience of our room being close to both the pool and the buffet. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and very well maintained. The only downside was that on the weekends the resort allows local day guests, which made the buffet lines much longer and beach towels were often unavailable. Overall, we had a great experience and enjoyed our vacation.
