Hotel entrance is on a hill that makes check-in challenging with luggage. Greeted by a front desk employee who's favorite word was \"no\". Booked two rooms together, but were on separate floors. One room door did not close correctly, it kept hitting the closest wall. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Free wi-fi inside room but drops once you enter hallway. Hallways had weird slopes in sections, but weren't in same spots on different floors. Zero food available within the hotel, restaurant was either on holiday or gone out of business. Won't consider staying here again.

close to all shopping, transportation (bus/train/airport bus/taxis). very convenient just let the cab drop you at the corner and not at the uphill part especially if you have a lot of luggage.
our hotel tv remote did not work but staff fixed it after - regular tv stations. no cable, no airplay, no subtitles.
2 water bottles a day - Yey!
rooftop is very nice with a view of the seoul tower. however not accessible if you have a disability as the elevator only goes to the 7th floor and a steep stair to the rooftop (8th floor)
small washer/drier at 5000 won/wash
clean hotel- quiet even though they said there’s construction happening - never heard construction noise but you will hear next room if they are loud.
Hotel is clean and spacious- we had 2 large suitcases and 2 carryons and still have room.

convenient location. had to pay for water. very honest staff. left my rings and they contacted me right away and sent my rings to my hotel in seoul. hotel room is spacious and very clean. small windows - not good if you are claustrophobic. the tea is good too.

Good location, otherwise nothing impressive.
The rooms are old and outdated.
It's on the border of Myeongdong shopping area, so it is walking distance to some of the attractions like Namsan cable car, Cheonggyecheon stream and of course Myeongdong shopping and night food market.
The cleaning lady is really nice.

Hotel is close to everything including airport bus stop, trains, shops and restaurant. The size of the room is reasonable and in very good condition. The only gripe is that I lose wifi connectivity between 8pm and 10pm each night. Other than that, I highly recommend this hotel to everyone.

Location was perfect, train station was few minutes away. Isaac toast was across the road and restaurants like McD, fried chicken shops, Paris Baguette etc are nxt to the hotel. Myeongdong street is across the road as well. Is a good hotel for option.

Not too bad a hotel..

It was my wife and my 4th wedding anniversary. We stayed at this hotel and on our first night, we were given a twin sharing room and the room wasn’t well cleaned.

There was sand on the bed and strands of hair in the bathroom.

However, the hotel changed us to a double room which was to our delight. However, there were only 1 pillow for each of us. When we called to request for more pillows, they said they don’t have anymore pillows and offered blankets instead, which didn’t fit our purpose.

On the overall, it was still quite a pleasant stay despite the minor hiccups.

Room size weird. First night given a room next to staff storage area. Return back after 2 nights and was slightly better. Given a room along walk way. PLEASE note room size very tiny base on triple room. Do consider this factor as picture of guestroom very misleading. WiFi not consistent and always very weak, at times you may get bump out.
On the other hand, location is superb, easy access to all major trains, eatery, shopping malls etc.

New oriental hotel is located conveniently near Myeongdong Station and opposite the famous MD shopping and food street bustling with activities from 4pm onwards. There are a few cafes surrounding the hotel and there is no worry about finding food in the vicinity.

Rooms were really clean and comfy though a little small, but it’s acceptable. Love the toilet as it’s very spacious. Location is really near the subway and most imptly just <5 minutes walk away from Myeongdong Street. Love the fact that there’s also a neighbourhood restaurant that sells comfort food like gimbap, soft tofu stew, etc etc. Procedure for checking-in and out were really quick and efficient. There’s even a weighing machine for your luggage at the hotel lobby. And it’s also really convenient to travel to the airport as the airport limousine bus waiting area is also just about 5 minutes walk from the hotel. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay. Would definitely come back and stay again.

ACESSIBILITY
Great location as it is situated in between of N Seoul Tower and Myeongdong. Its also easily accessible to the train station via Exit 4 of Myeongdong Station. For quick local breakfast stop, Issac Toast is opposite the hotel. Has a 24hrs CU (7-Eleven equivalent) around the corner.

SERVICE
Front desk service can be improved for some of its staff but overall responsive.

ROOM COMFORT
The bed feels worn as one can feel the springs when lying on the bed. Very soft pillows.

There was no windows at the room and it was completely different from the description.
So, we complained and changed the room.
But there was only tiny window and no views due to the building standing in front very closely (as if I could reach it with my arm). We changed again but the result was the same and we were told that if we want nicer room, pay more. That's so terrible.

For those seeking for spacious room, this hotel might not be your first choice. Staffs area bit inflexible about check-in time of room. Was told their Air-conditioning system are turned off due to cool weather. Guests are requested to open the window to allow cool air into the room. Which is quite annoying because it can get quite noisy with window open. Cleanliness is quite well maintained though.

The hotel is in between exit 4 and 5 of Myeongdong station. Popular Issac Toast is opposite the hotel and Paris Baguette is a short walk from the hotel, near exit 4.

The main shopping area of Myeongdong is opposite the hotel with lots and lots of shops and eateries.

Highly recommended. Love the washer and dryer (KRW5K)!

Nicely refurbished older property in super, Myeong-dong area location. Clean, average size rooms feature comfortable beds and standard plus ammenities for under $100 USD / night. Coin-op laundry was a welcomed convenience before the long flight home. Daily Breakfast Buffet (+9,900 KRW) was solid; additional Western choices might broaden its appeal. The New Oriental's friendly, helpful staff make what would otherwise be a 3-Star property, FEEL like a 4-Star. Highly recommended for value-conscious travelers.

Very clean but small room. Sink was in the bedroom and toilet and shower were in another room which is a clever touch if room is shared by two. The room itself (room 413) was very clean and new. Good for short stay if travelling alone with one other person. Not much room to place luggage but did have proper wardrobe cupboard. Staff were very polite and helpful. Reasonable price for location and clean tidy smallish rooms.

Very clean hotel with 3mins proximity to Myeongdong shopping, subway and airport limousine. It's a non-smoking hotel with free wifi in all areas. There is a convenient store round the corner. Our room has a view of the Namsan Tower which is located at the back of the hotel. Checking in is very smooth and fast.

We stay at New Oriental Hotel for few nights, some stayed at Standard Double Room, some stayed at Standard Twin Room. I would say Standard Double Room is more suitable for short period stay as the room is very small. The basin is inside the room instead of toilet, sometimes will cause room floor in wet. Standard Twin Room have bigger space, good enough for me. If want to go with double room, i would recommend to pick Superior Room and above which i expect it will come with bigger space. But overall the hotel is pretty good and provide all the basic amenities required. Lastly, the location is superb which just opposite of Myeongdong. Very convenient and less noisy.

We stayed here for two days at the end of our holiday in South Korea before departing Seoul. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly and happy to assist with working out our route to the airport. The hotel is also located at the edge of Myeong-dong, just a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of the main shopping streets. There is also plenty of eating options around the building or just across the road in Myeong-dong. My only complaint would be that the Wi-Fi was too slow. In common areas the Wi-Fi was fast and usable, but access was very limited in the rooms. This was not much of an issue for our two day stretch, but for a longer stay you might want to consider another hotel in consistent Wi-Fi in-room is a significant factor in your choice.

Really liked the location of this hotel. Walking distance to City Hall, Shinsagae department store, palace, city hall, train station. Lots of restaurants in Myeongdong Street.

The front desk staff were fantastic, always polite, smiling friendly, and willing to help with any request.

The room size was a little small but workable. The bathroom was really big but shower only, not bath tub. My only small complaint was the bathroom floor needed a good cleaning. It was dirty the whole week we were there.

Very central, but shaky wifi and strange smells

I really do love the location (close to Shinsegae dept store and Myeong Dong station exit 4) and the rooms, but there were some small issues:
1. Wifi was intermittent and shaky
2. The lift often smelled like a mix of kimchi and sewage (though they tried to elevate this by putting in potpourri sachets, which did help a little)
3. The aircon kept shutting off after every hour or so (this can be mitigated by calling the front desk and asking them to deal with it)

Other than that, the room was lovely, very clean and very comfortable (unless you like windows because there were few). It has the basic amenities one would require - complimentary water bottles, soap etc.

Service was generally good - especially this staff Zhen Quan, who really did all he could to assist us, such as booking a taxi to the airport, weighing our luggages and porting them about. He's also multilingual - basic english, native mandarin and of course korean.

Checking in and out was smooth and fuss-free, and it really was a very pleasant stay (except for the random smells). There is also a lovely roof terrace at the top floor, which has a direct view of Namsan tower (gorgeous at night!).

Stayed New Oriental few times and will still be my choice unless i find another better one in seoul. Front desk managers: ladies and guys are polite in new oriental, but of course not everyone, but most of them. Specially there is a nice young guy that i shall appreciate, he is friendly, attentive and warm smile even carry our heavy luggages alone when catching the taxi for us. Unfortunately i forget to ask his name while rush into the taxi, hope to see him again next visit and appraise him. Never seen front desk manager from other hotel act so helpful at all, he has good characters and respect his duty well.

Room night is big enough compare bigger than Loisir or Skypark. Near subway yet less crowd on the otherside of Myeongdong. Funny is that all rooms in different layout, some rooms with no counter top at toilet/bathroom, so where lady guest to place their face cream etc, if hotel can improve this will be good.

Best if offer bathtub room too although know it is impossible.
Surprise to read some bad reviews from guests, trust hotel shall ensure this not happen to others, especially bad smells and clogging at toilet, shall change the room at once.

The location is a big plus. It is only 50m from subway station n shopping streets n markets. The airport bus stop is also nearby which is another bonus when you have finish with your trip!
We booked in a superior twins which consists of a queen n single bed. The room is location on L5 n look staight into another building! Lucky we r out most of the time n came back late so it did not bother us! However, L6 n L7 would have been ok n overlook the building next door. we asked for an deluxe twins which we cannot book thru' Hotels.com! We were told by the reception that it is a.upgrade n it costs an additional 44,000krw per night. An offer that we did not take up!
Our room was a bit small but it is very neat n tidy. All facilities are very new and clean. Overall, we are very satisfy.

Strategic location

The hotel staff was just very helpful and helped us with everything that we need (providing information on bus terminals and schedules, train schedules, directions, etc.). Housekeeping did their job well and made sure that what was lacking was always replenished. The location of the hotel is so strategic because close to shopping, food, subway station and fantastic attractions (Gyeongbokgung Palace, Gwanghamun, Namdaemun Market and lots more). All in all it was a fantastic stay.

Pleasant stay!

Overall, a pleasant stay. We had a group of 18 and we booked 6 rooms in total. The hotel is very close to Myeongdong and we had stay for 3 nights.
Hotel staffs are very attentive and we spent our New Year Eve countdown on the roof top which was memorable to us.

One particular note to the management is the bad odor in the elevator and the 4/f corridor. Aside from this, we were satisfied.

We really enjoyed our stay there.
Located near exit 4 of MyeongDong station which is really great!
The room, bed, pillow, etc was also very comfy!
So, staying there is 100% recommended.
HOWEVER, for business it may be difficult as the wifi is just isnt good at all.
Korea suppose to have one of the best internet around the globe, yet the internet in the room is just really bad.
I have trouble browsing via my laptop AND my mobile.

I alway felt little bit of smelly poo in the hotel since I just arrival. Unfortunately, overflow of toilet water had been happened in my room of my second nights(totel 6 nights).
I asked for the help and hope to exchange the other room for the 4 nights afterward, but the staff just gave me a several pieces of tower for absorbing overflowed water and advised me try to clean up the bathroom by myself.
After negotiation, hotel agreed to change the other room for me. It is a really bad exprience for me.
Anyway, location of the hotel and bedding is great.

The hotel is newly renovated, so expect that it looks really clean and new. We really love the showers. They had rain fall shower heads, plus really strong water pressure and hot water, so it felt really nice taking a hot shower after a long day in the cold weather. They re-stock your room with toiletries and 2 bottles of water each day. Our only complaint was that there were only 2 pillows provided, and it was hard to operate the aircondition because it was in Korean. We had to open the windows to let the cool air in at night. But overall, the hotel is great. Really close to the subway, and shopping district.

Loved this hotel, location was excellent, a 3-5 minute walk from myeongdong station, 5 minutes from shinsegae and myeongdong shopping area. Staff were helpful and courteous, will definitely come back if we were to come by Seoul again! Thanks for the enjoyable stay!

Great hotel to stay while in Seoul!

My stay was cozy and comfortable. Definitely worth it and plus it was a walking distance to the N Seoul Tower and shopping centers.

Hotel close to train station and shopping street

The hotel room spacious and big enough for us. Booked one Twin Room and one Superior Twin Room and to our surprise our Superior Twin Room have 1 double and 2 single bed, originally when booking i thought is only 1 double bed and 1 single. The housekeeping service is good and the lady is friendly. The front desk staff is friendly and helpful. No problem in communicating in English. Hotel is located near to the train station and the famous namdaemun market and myeongdong shopping street. Definitely will recommend this hotel for those going to Seoul.

Review Part 3

Now we would have thought that all incident had been resolved, but no the Hotel manages to create more incident and situation for the group.
Incident 3 - A couple of us are going back 1 day later than the rest so one of our rooms had an additional night and are checking out on Monday. So on Sunday, while we were out, at around 3pm our friend who is checking out on Monday received a text from the Hotel mention “are you XXX from Room XXX” (by the way this is the same friend whose room had received the call at 4am previously). Having receiving such a text, our friend was worried what would have happened and we decided to shorten our shopping and head back to the hotel to see what is wrong.

Review Part 2

Incident 2 - The same night, at 4am, our friend’s room received a call from someone at the reception asking for her name! Seriously which freaking Hotel at their right state of mind calls the guest’s room at 4am in the morning to ask for the guest’s name! In the morning, we went by to the reception to complain about this and enquire why the reception called the guest room at 4am in the morning asking for the guest’s name (the reception had records and confirmed that they made the call to the room) and due to that, caused our friend a sleepless night. The front desk personnel serving us this round is Becca, Becca was the only compliment we have of New Oriental Hotel. Becca was nice, polite and tried to help. Back to the complaint, we have asked for the reason why would they do that and how is the Hotel going to compensate us for pulling such a stunt of calling at 4am, now we have not ask for full refund but a 50% refund for that night and a Manager, James who was beside Becca commented to Becca in Korean and said that we were RIDICULOUS he assumed that we do not understand Korean as we don’t speak it, for a Manager, to be making such comments on your guest and assuming the guest doesn’t understand, such service is horrible. Becca said she will contact the management and check on the compensation and that evening, we are informed that we will be given a full refund for that night.

Customer Service Disappointed but Great Location

Overall, the room and the environment is quiet and comfortable. The hotel seems new when the room is also clean. You also smell Ginseng everyday after the room cleaning service. The shopping area (Myeong Dong)is right across the street so it's like the island apart from the busy area.

The Wifi was really poor when no one could help me to set up my connection (I am an iPhone 6 user)

Customer service level of the front desk was just okay. We left like someone bothering when we were asking how to get to airport. Not sure if they are poor in English or what, here were particularly one to two staffs gave us attitude through their facial expression and the tone and manner.

Modern and clean hotel central to everything

I booked a room for three people to stay over five days and was very impressed when we arrived. The room is modern and exceptionally clean. The shower is extremely powerful and beds comfortable. It was generally very quiet so we all slept well.
The location itself is also fantastic; just across the road from the shopping district with lots of places to eat as well.
Would not hesitate to stay here again if we return to seoul.

Great room and service

The service was great and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were even allowed to keep our luggage in the hotel for a few a few days free of charge as we didn’t want to carry large suitcases with us on our short trip to Jeju island. The room was also clean and comfortable.

Good hotel in an ideal location

This is a recently renovated hotel. The room was neat and tidy. Bed was comfortable and sheets smelled fresh. Bathroom was clean, and it got electric toilet seat with water spray.The breakfasts were good considering its price. Hotel's location was perfect for strolling around town. We'd stay at this hotel again.
