The condition of the room was fine, and the staff was super nice. The service itself wasn't so good. I requested several times for someone to come help me with the safe inside the room, and no one came up to help me even though they said they would. I also reported the phone inside the room didn't work on the first night, and they also didn't fix it.
The rooms don't have an iron to iron your clothes, you have to do this on a separate floor they have.
Sometimes they would last a couple of days to change towels.

This is the third time that I use this hotel, the previous two were fine, and that´s why I came back, but probably I will not come back again. The restaurant service was bad, find a clean table was not easy, some menu options unfortunately were really bad, there were problems with the air condition, the bathroom (although they solved) and the surrounding are not the best, people kept warning you about security issues.

Likes: Room and bed was comfortable, nice size. Internet was a good speed.

Dislikes: Hair on the shower wall, No adapters availablefor Brazilian electrical plugs, no USB plugs for charging cell phones, Staff was not very helpful - I asked for an iron, it was never delivered. I asked for late check out at 2PM instead of 12 noon and was told I'd have to pay for a half day extra. ( I declined) Property was not fully booked, so asking for a late checkout should not require paying a half day.

Staff didn't go out of their way to accommodate, just did the bare minimum, No smiles, just plain faces with no emotion. Very rare to see this in Rio.

Overall, it was just a one day layover and place to lay my head, but next time I'd stay at the Prodigy hotel on the other side of Santos Dumont airport where the Customer service is much better and the connected Bossa Nova mall and food options are excellent.

One night stopover convenient for SDU airport (although our flight was cancelled suddenly), and our airline took us to GIG. We were given a room that was comfortable but sadly the bathroom had a snag list as long as your arm. 1 no door architrave on inside. 2 Mirror light hanging free suspended by it’s wires. 3 No vent grille on extractor, just a big hole (and the thing didn’t cut out at all. 4 Towel rail so loose we dare not hang a towel on it. 5 Shower soap dispenser completely empty. Avoid end room 470 (4th floor).

Breakfast price steep. But practical for a few days. Metro not close either … a good 15 min. walk .

The hotel staff is very nice and professional. Hotel is clean however the elevador, hallway and walls need maintenance. The rooms are nice however the walk to the room from elevador through the hallways needs improvement. I was happy with the breakfast and restaurant dining experience. Good food at a fair price.

The hotel is a complete dump. It is a three star hotel at best. Really disappointing. It’s so dirty and so old it should be blown up. I cannot believe that anyone would think this is a four-star hotel or better. I would avoid at all cost I would almost sleep in the street before I stayed in this dirt box.

The staff was friendly and helpful. The room was very clean. However we had two issues, one more concerning than the other. The restaurant wait staff was helpful although missing for long time and our orders didn’t arrive on time if they did at all. The second issue we had was the room air conditioning. The second night we were there, the AC unit started beeping in the middle of the night. After trying to turn it off and going through various settings I gave up and called the front desk. They were helpful and offered to change rooms (and offered earplugs for me. But the two kids I was traveling with were alseep so I didn’t feel comfortable leaving them alone. So I had a restless night.

I would like to start with I had a great time visiting Rio dr jan all the staff were very friendly and helpful especially Gabriel We really enjoyed the rides and all the other amenities but I was a little disappointed as soon as I entered the room I found everything very cool during the day I went to shower, hair on the shower floor, the most disappointing dirty sheet !!! was not changed from the last guest. The breakfast was good but my husband and I found dirty glasses of lipstick.the location is very good.
was near everywhere we wanted to go.
The great thing about this hotel is the location and the front desk staff gabriel.

You can walk here from Santos Dumont airport in less than 10 minutes without crossing a street! And the VLT street car is 4 blocks away - you can take it to the heart of downtown or the Metro (subway). Very safe during the week, quite deserted onSunday.

I have stayed here twice before. I keep coming back - is there a better recommendation?
Very convenient to SDU airport and downtown Rio. Very good business hotel - not so good for tourism as it is away from the tourist hot spots and downtown is almost completely closed on weekends.

Got there first night and room was given away. I called hotel to advised airplane delayed. Room was prepaid ,8 nights. Hotel staff said no problem. I had to dysu next door the first night at another hotel. Next nday advised my room would be for later since my reservation didn't start until later that day. Showed proof of my reservation. Advised by room would be ready immediately. It was readyb4 hours later. Air conditioning didn't work, most staff didn't speak English, food from restaurant was terrible. Wasn't getting bclean towels or room. I had to email hotel for a response! Staff wasn't responding.

Hand, good quality hotel for SDU airport.

Very handy hotel for an early departure from Santos Dumont airport otherwise the location is not so good. The hotel itself is clean, comfortable, modern and well maintained. Friendly and helpful staff make it pleasant place to stay. There were internet problems when I arrived that were not fixed until after I went to bed in the evening. Next morning the internet worked fine and fast - I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that this was an isolated problem and still vote this hotel as very good to excellent. Partial view of SDU runway from some rooms. Likely to become obstructed as as there is a building site between the hotel and the airport but likely to be OK for quite a while as the site appears to be abandoned half built.

Very good, but an unusual neighboorhood for some

Because of its proximity to Santos Dumont airport, and the ease of getting flights from there and the bus from there to Galeao, as well as the fact that the Metro, the VLT, and the \"centro\" are a short walk away, I always stay here while in Rio. Off putting is the fact that the neighborhood is deserted during the weekend and the next block up is full of homeless. While the area is safe, some new travelers may feel uncomfortable. Their buffet breakfast is nothing special, but very much worth the price.
PS Sometimes the bar next door at the Ibis is more convivial.

Novotel Rio de Janeiro

This was an amazing hotel, within walking distance to the US Embassy which was the purpose of the trip. We ordered dinner our first night and the salad was absolutely amazing, my fiancee was raving about how excellent everything was. The morning after the inclusive breakfast was phenomenal, amazing selection of juices, lots of variety and you could really tell it was a Brazilian breakfast. The bathroom was very nice, we loved the overhead shower as well as the hand held sprayer. Overlooking the Santos Dumont airport and we could not hear the planes landing and taking off which was very surprising give the proximity. An inlet to the ocean as well as a view of the Pao de Acucar off in the distance was also very beautiful. I wake up earlier than most and got to see the sunrise and was amazed at the orange sky as the sun filled the day.

We decided to stay here after an all night flight and long day of traveling from Portland, OR. We took a long bus ride from GIG to get there because the taxis were on strike that day. The hotel was clean and attractive. The staff was very friendly.

Chose this hotel for the location near SDU airport because
we arrived back in Rio from Iguazu Falls late at night and we were leaving early the next morning. The hotel staff went out of their way to assist us. Breakfast was good. The hotel has a bus stop very nearby which seemed to have buses going all over Rio. For anyone traveling on a budget,
and is not bothered by people sleeping on the street very nearby it would be OK, but you can find nice hotels in Copacabana on the beach for not much more.

Enjoyed the stay here as we flew in to the airport nearby, which meant we could walk there.

Staff were friendly and helpful.

Couple of things that took the shine off me and my mates stay - the wifi was a nightmare to log in to (our details did not work the staff had to log in with a generic log in), the air con in the room did not face the beds which seemed a bit strange and some TV channels were just snow.

That said we weren't in Rio to sit in our room so it wasn't a biggie but sleeping was tough on the first night due to the heat.

Hotel is near a subway which was handy and neighbourhood seemed safe enough. I would stay there again. Taxi to International airport was 90 realis.

I enjoyed my stay with this hotel very much at non-refundable speacial rate for the peak season of New Year. The room was very new and clean and was always cool with airconditioner even when I was out. Hotel staffs were very helpful and advisable when I asked them about local transportation to some spots or asked them to arrange some tour.

Great hotel, far better than any 4 stars hotel in the United States. Clean, noise proof, great service and hospitality, great respect to the guests, real breakfast with natural products, real fruits, real fresh juices, real sugar-free breads, cheeses, salami etc. which no US hotel from New York to L.A. bothers to offer to its guests.

the hotel is right at the center of the city. walking distance to attractions, businesses, transportation, shopping centers, domestic airport (Dumont) is behind it (but its quiet in my room and outside). GIG, international airport, is within 35 minutes by car (95.00 REALES (3.60 exchange to 1 USD), but bus service is available (cheap 14.95 reales) from GIG to Dumont airport. free breakfast (excellent), free WI-FI. staffs are courteous helpful, made you at home, comfortable.

Really enjoyed my stay here. I chose it because it is very close to SDU Airport (an easy 7 mins drive, with no traffic), and was very satisfied with everything. Clean, comfortable room, friendly and helpful staff, great breakfast, and decent gym facilities. I would stay here again any time.

First Time in Rio

This is the first time I traveled to Rio. The hotel is located in city center-- accessible to metro and points of interest. I had very pleasant time during my stay. One suggestion to the management of the hotel is to train staff in English proficiency, so they can understand the customers’ needs in a better way.

Maybe for business yet not for pleasure!

Traveling for pleasure to see the beaches and the sites and this hotels reviews gave no mention of its horrible location and that it resides next to 30+ homeless people. The service for our midnight arrival was quite chipper and the facilities were clean.

It was a nice area during the day. When dark you can't leave the hotel by foot, if you need to leave you can take a taxi in front if the hotel. The only thing missing was a pool and/or a jacuzzi.

O Novotel do Santos Dumont é um hotel padrão da rede: bem localizado, limpo, moderno e com atendimento profissional. É uma estadia agradável a um custo relativamente baixo, e o custo é baixo ali no centro por um motivo simples: há muitos moradores de rua e usuários de droga ao redor, especialmente na marquise onde fica a entrada do hotel. Eles, contudo, não mexem com os hóspedes e, se você for sair de dia ou de carro, geralmente não há problema algum. Eu e minha família não nos incomodamos com a presença deles e ficaríamos de novo pelo bom custo!
