Dear Expedia Customer Support,

I am writing to formally request a refund regarding my recent booking at Britannia Sachas Hotel, as the accommodation was materially not as described and failed to meet basic standards of habitability and guest care.

During my stay, I encountered the following issues:
•Only one set of towels was provided.
•The toilet seat was in an unacceptable and unhygienic condition.
•Only one blanket was available.
•The main room lighting was not functioning.
•The bedside lamp was also not working.
•The heating system was not operational, leaving the room uncomfortably cold.

These are fundamental amenities that are reasonably expected and advertised as part of any standard hotel stay. Their absence represents a clear failure to provide the service paid for.

Furthermore, the room was situated adjacent to an alleyway with persistent and excessive noise disturbance throughout the night, including shouting and disruptive behaviour. This made it impossible to rest and further demonstrates that the accommodation was not fit for purpose.

Based on the above, this booking does not meet Expedia’s standards for “as advertised” accommodation, and I am therefore requesting a full refund. If a full refund is not possible, I expect a substantial partial refund to reflect the severity of the issues experienced.

I am prepared to provide supporting evidence, including photographs and booking details, upon request.

The people that was in the rook next to us, played their music so loud at around half 12? Midnight. I banged on the wall, it went quite and they banged back, then continued playing their music till about half 1/2. I was tired, we’d just come back from a concert, i was knackered and wanted to relax. And i couldn’t get to sleep.

Good evening sir, how was your day? - nope
Surly guy on check-in definitely needs a crash course in guest relations.
But 37 quid on a cold January night convinced me to stay for a second time - it’s cheap but check-in certainly not cheerful this time.
Room on 3rd floor is in a maze of windowless rooms - luckily I didn't need fire exit.
Spartan room was cold but warmed with a plug-in oil heater.
Big comfy double bed with lamps either side.
Another big lamp on table alongside kettle with tea, coffee and one biscuit!
Good internet connex.
Shower in bath is basic as is the stay - don't expect paintings on the wall or much else apart from a low cost place to crash.
Market St tram is 1 min walk & hotel right in city centre - along with better hotels.

Had a windowless room and it was cold, actually very cold, I have had such rooms at Sachas before and been lovely and toasty. The Dimplex rad was totally inadequate.

The amount I paid for justified the experience.

The location is very convenient - it is in the High Street/City Centre. The room was spacious and that the toilet also has a bath tub. The TV is humongous- 65 inches I think. All basic necessities are there.

On the other hand, the traffic noise outside can be an inconvenience. The good thing is I stayed during Christmas and boxing day so noise intensity is not much of an issue. Check-in was fast. And there is security check after 10PM.

I will consider staying here again if I just need a night to crash in.

It was okay, room size were ideal furniture was clean but TV had very few video channels because of old system, they should include Breakfast too we booked 2 rooms and paid £95 per night, normally its cheaper around £40. Hope they add breakfast so all customers will come back here and never go elsewhere

I had read bad reviews and I have had past negative experiences with the Britannia hotel chain but was more than happy with my stay, the room and the professional and helpful staff. I had booked a window less budget room. It was basic but had everything I need. It was clear that previous reviews had been considered to improve it. There was a fan provided if room is too hot, and a space heater and extra blankets if too cold. I had been travelling all day so stayed in the one evening I had booked. Shower was hot with good water pressure and towels and shower gel were provided. The coffee making tray was sufficient and I enjoyed both evening and morning coffees when in bed watching TV. I slept great, no window to let street noise in. Hotel was cheap and provided above the standard I expected for what I paid. Only issue was the lack of outlets to charge mobile by the bed. Perfect location for shopping but the Piccadilly Gardens area was as sketchy as ever. Staff was helpful and it was a bonus that I could leave my bags after checking out to pick up later. Don't expect a mansion if you stay at this hotel, but standard good and staff went above and beyond.

The attempt to sign in was an awful experience.

Despite having signed the day before online I was asked to signed in again on arrival. There was what I perceived to be a slight issue with my initials being used instead of my first name. You would have thought the Manchester sky had fallen in. Reading other reviews this appears to be a recurring theme with this particular hotel.The receptionist was unhelpful and quite difficult to deal with. She actually offered a refund., which would have solved her problem. How was I going to find another room at that time of day??

Fortunately after causing a large queue(apologies). This was resolved.

To be fair the room was nice. However given the location there was significant street noise until the early hours.

I personally wouldn't use this hotel again. From experience there are plenty of similar and more hospitable hotels nearby.

I order a family room with 3 beds and paid £180 for the night when arrive which was 15:00 the que was massive. So we had a drink, when final got serviced and went to the room it was one double bed. The lady behind the desk dont really want to know and was disappointed with service. People been there since two and room wasn’t ready. Plus the have cheek to charge city tax, when service is very poor!

Check in was the slowest process I’ve ever had - we were 5th in queue when we arrived and queued for 25 minutes. There was no sense of urgency from the staff even though the line was nearly going down the stairs. We also found out once we got the desk that ALL guests staying needed physical photo ID, which we weren’t told beforehand.

The room was tiny for £170, no window unless you pay extra. The room was boiling even at the end of November. There was no way to cool the room down - there was a fan in the room but 1) it was tiny 2) there was no ventilation in the room so it was blowing hot air around.

The room itself was very basic - the TV didn’t work, no proper lighting (just 3 small lamps dotted around), bed was a small double, no plug sockets by the bed. The bathroom was very basic (you get better in a premier inn)

Would not stay again, especially for the price.

Really bad hotel, one of the receptionist needs customer service training as she was so rude and difficult for no reason with people checking in, and to get back into the hotel you're quizzed a million unnecessary questions by security (but i guess at least they have security). The hotel room itself was a furnace which they did try to fix with fans but wasn't overly effective, the walls are paper thin so could hear everything around us. Overall, just bad in every aspect, its the cheapest place we could find but still felt like too much money given what you get

We turned up at 2pm to check in as what the site and confirmation said was check in time to be rudely turned away and told to come back at 3pm. The room was boiling and very low lit, the room itself had no overhead light and had to light the room with its 3 lamps. The room was set up with a dirty, dusty fan to counter the boiling temperature in the room but didn’t help in the slightest, we found another fan that was hidden away in storage and used that but still had no effect on cooling down the room. Difficult night sleep and left earlier than planned in the morning.

The staff at reception unhelpful and majority rude with check in and room issue. Basic importantance of having a proper working shower is not important it was not useable and tv that constantly lost signal. Very noisey area double graze old type doesn’t work as too old. Noise in hotel not great and out even worse so unless heading out to party throughout night not hotel for you. Cars pulling up outside with loud music, motorbike screaming corner and around Piccadilly garden very loud and unruly . Very scary area at night with odd characters about and noise was horrific . No room change due to issue when they eventually came to look as they won’t change until they see issue. Took 3 times which big time wasting tactic to get u go away. Manager not much better try to discuss with and chatted nicely but don’t care attitude at check k in then gave us bad rooms. My mum had same room type with shower that worked proper but her tv was stuck on radio until worked out how get it off could face ask staff for help with this as response from I got my room issues took 3 hrs to be told a load of rubbish. and a very loud area her room at night. This common place throughout room as run round with radio and people we’re leaving. There no room change available or money off because issues apparently it a hand held shower it doesn’t apply and tv that works . Don’t waste money at this hotel it a scam and not nice place . If had time I would have checked out.

Stayed at this hotel before. Overall enjoyed our stay. With the hotel being central your always going to have noise. The only bad comment i could put is that we couldnt open a window and get some air in. The hotel was central and near to all shops and eateries. Not sure why a lot of people give it the worse hotel in Manchester as this is so unfair.
The staff was lovely but was overworked. Needed security in the day due to the dross who was costantly causing neusance to everyone.

The room itself is great. A good size. A little bit of bodge it and scarper when it comes to the maintenance. The main issue was with a VERY loud nightclub just below the room. At 12:10 AM there was very loud, terrible music coming from downstairs. Thankfully it didn’t last. More than an hour but it definitely woke me up! I went for a bath and by the time I had finished the volume had gone down to a level that was just about bearable. I was going to go to reception and complain but I couldn’t be bothered to get dressed and it did calm down.

Sachas is in the perfrct location for shopping, socialising and to get Metro for out of centre places. Yet its because of the location it is noisy, catch 22. Staff amazingly friendly, and welcoming. Rooms good size (twin) all facilities.. tea, coffee, etc, soap, towels, extra blankets, fan, heater. Clean, just needs decorating (and i mean professionally) not bob a job man!! Terrible patch work all over room, but that does not detract from a comfortable mattress, warm duvet and reasonably good nights sleep. And the price reflects the improvements required.

HORRENDOUS HOTEL!

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!!
The moment we walked in this hotel the staff were so rude!
We were checking in at 2pm for 2 adults and 2 children, as we were checking in they had us down for 3 standard room which we booked for a family room. They seen then that they had made a mistake but said we would have to wait for half hour for our room to be cleaned.
Half hour to clean a room no way!!
Anyway so we were asked for ID i gave mine also had to show some sort of id for my 12 year old daughter, done that. My friend on the other hand had her 12 year old sister with her but she wasnt aloud she had to be with her mother. So the staff asked if we could get id from the mother which we did. To then turn out we had do all the IDs again with a different staff member. He took my daughters id and because she had a different surname to me they then refused again and cancelled it. This was not stated while i was doing the online check in!! 2 and half hours we were in there trying to sort it the whole time the staff were so rude no good customer sevice skills whatsoever! The hotel itself looked so dirty it was HORRENDOUS. THIS HOTEL SHOULD BE SHUT DOWN, HOW IT HASNT ALREADY I DO NOT KNOW. Oh not forgetting they hadn't actually cancelled it they lied, head office actually refunded it. We were so stressed having 2 young kids coming from wales and not knowing if we would have a place to stay. Thankyou to the travel lodge we did and cant them enough how they tret us.

The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable but made a big mistake choosing a room with no window as i thought it would be ok as i was literally juat going to be sleeping there but it was so hot and uncomfortable although there were two fans in the room whixh i put both on full power all night it did not cool the room it just moved hot air around so my advice would be if you do book choose a room with a window and pay a bit extra it will be worth it.

We booked a room with no windows, which was extremely hot. We had expected the room to have air conditioning, but it was not provided.
While using a hair dryer, I received an electric shock. I reported this incident to the receptionist on my way out for dinner. The receptionist asked me to complete an incident report, but I informed them that I was too busy, as myself and my husband were going out for dinner.
Upon checking in, to the hotel it was only myself that checked in, as my husband was parking the car. The booking clearly indicated that the reservation was for two guests. When I presented my identification to the receptionist, they did not inquire about the second guest.

When I reported the electric shock incident, the receptionist did not ask for the identification of my husband, who was present at the time. Additionally, I had requested two extra pillows two hours earlier, and the receptionist informed me that the person on break was responsible for the pillows.

Upon checking out, I requested to speak with the manager about the electric shock incident. The manager informed me that they would not take any action because it was my guest who had received the shock and had not provided their identification.

I inquired about the identity of the person who reported the incident to the receptionist. The receptionist stated that it was the night duty receptionist. However, I clarified that I had reported the incident myself. If the manager was unwilling to take action

Receptionist; wasn’t very friendly ( Chinese lady) .
Before we checked in : we were asked if it’s possible little more early check in… other lady told me: yes you can come in about 13:00 o’clock. When we come to check in at 13:00 o’clock. Chinese lady says we only can check in at 15:00 o’clock. (Which Hotel.com shows check in time at 14:00 o’clock!) and she asking us ; if we want upgrade room it’s available now, if we can pay £20! When I refuse to pay. They told me to wait when it’s room get available.
After I was arguing with them.
Another gentleman kindly give us straight away another room. And room was nice, but everything it’s old. Need to upgrade.

The pricing of this place was what drew me in but it had it’s flaws. The toilet in my room didn’t work properly and despite having maintenance come and look and ‘fix it’ it still did not work as it should. There was also some food that someone spilt in the hallway that took over half a day to have cleared up. Also, the walls are quite thin so when a door slams somewhere it reverberates throughout the floor. I also wouldn’t stay here in summer as they only have fans not air conditioning in the rooms.

It was a nice location to have a weekend to yourself or with friends, but the condition of the room was a bit poor, shower broken, room not air conditioned.
