To focus on positive side:people were all nice .

The positive thing is that the people were nice , it was just the condition of the property that is overdue for renovation. another disappointment is that there was no internet connection the whole time ( 3 nights) I was there. As a tourist with no phone, that made it very inconvenient for me .

Physical facilities at the given price was very good.As regards service , attention and attitude of the staff , it was more than satisfactory. Complementary Break fast arrangement was excellent covering vast range and variety .View from dining area was very scenic.
Most of the historical sites and shoping areas are at 5 to 15 minttes walking distance from hotel location.
The staff is available at all times.

1) Airport pickup - I was scared when I arrived with my family of 6 - however, there was a guy with M55 label at the airport, who was very friendly and guided us thru the heavy traffic to the pickup van - many thanks

2) At the hotel - YUNUS night manager welcomed, very polite and cooperative youth - helped us settle in room and also order the food from local place.

Hotel is located at 5 min walk from main old city attractions.

3) Day time manager - AYDIN very coperative and helpful gentleman

4) Return airport shuttle on time and sapcious.
5) I LOVED MY STAY WITH KAFTAN - SURELY, NEXT TIME I WILL PREFER THEM OVER ALL.

Gave away our room - great breakfast

They didn't hold our room, so instead of having 2 single beds, my buddy and I had to share a double. Not a huge deal, but not what you're looking forward to after a 20 hour travel day. The buffet breakfast was tasty and it had a great view. Within easy walking distance of all tourist attractions.

We enjoyed staying in Kaftan. Booked erroneously for two days online for a reasonable (Discounted) price then found out had to stay one more day. Dear Murat was not that friendly to accommodate us with the same rate and were forced to cough up a regular rate which was much higher. There was construction going on and constant banging on our head. Was told nothing can be done about that.
It will be unfair if we do not mention about how fantastic the continental breakfast was. It was awesome and rest of the staff was friendly and gracious. Overall it was definitely a worthwhile place to stay. Will do it again and recommend any one who visits Istanbul.

Good for the price

Staff was very nice and helpful. The hotel is very well located specially for a first visit to Istambul, when Sultanhamed is a great neighborhood to stay. Breakfast at the hotel was good.
Family rooms are in the basement, I rather had been upstairs. There is only a couple of small windows up in the wall, no views of the street from the basement and the air is a little stuffy. Air conditioning was very good in the room though.
Overall the hotel honored our expectations of a modestly priced place in order to have some more money for the other travel expenses.

Great Place to Stay

This hotel is in a great neighborhood for tourists. The staff is great, particularly Aydin (not sure of the spelling of his name). The room was clean and adorable. It's a typical European sized room, actually maybe a little bigger than some I've been in in other countries. The breakfast is typical Turkish breakfast, a lot of choices and fresh. Lovely view of the sea. I would absolutely stay here again.

This hotel is a must. It is located within walking minutes of the Blue Mosque, World Bazaar and lots of shopping, restaurants and culture. The hotel staff was extremely helpful with directions, bags and arranging transportation. They far exceeded the expectations of any traveler. The room was clean and exceeded the description online. I am an avid and consistent traveler. I would highly recommend the Kaftan Hotel and will definitely stay there again on my next visit to Istanbul.

We had 2 stays in this hotel during our trip in Turkey and were looking forward to the 2nd stay due to the service we received, the comfortable beds and hot showers. Someone is on the desk 24 hours a day and very welcoming even at 2300 & 0200, which were our arrival times. Only an easy 5 minute walk to Blue Mosque. We felt quite safe walking around at night (2 females). They provide a same day laundry service at €2/kg

Nice hotel, but ongoing construction

We actually stayed for 10 nights and my wife's brother and sister-in-law stayed for 4 nights. We had 5 people in our room, including my mother-in-law(for 4 nights). Overall, we loved the Kaftan Hotel. The staff were all very nice and helpful. Murat, the desk manager, was very attentive to our needs and helping resolve complaints. Ruhin and Suat were also very nice and helpful at the front desk. Ruhin spoke Russian, which was great since my in-laws only speak Russian. Our room was comfortable and as pictured on the website. We enjoyed breakfast on the terrace, which had a beautiful view of the Marmara Sea. The eggs were a bit over-salted, but we enjoyed all of the food. The location was GREAT. Many restaurants within a 1-2 minute walk, convenience stores, and only a 5 minute walk to the Blue Mosque and Hagia Sofia. I would have given the hotel an even higher rating, but they didn't mention that they were in the middle of renovations. During the hours of 10:30am and 5pm there were some pretty loud noises through out the hotel and cigarette smoke on the floor that my brother-in-law was on. Normally, not a big deal, but we had our 8-month-old with us and were not always able to be out all day with him. I did complain about the noise and smoke to Murat, and although we didn't receive a discount as I had requested, he did waive the fees for all of our airport transfers (3 total).

Stayed one night at this hotel. The room is ok for its rate and the shower is good; the breakfast is also good with a remarkable sea view from the terrace. The noise insulation is poor, you can clearly hear what next door said. Hardware is generally ok, however the service of the front desk staff (day shift guy)is just bad if not terrible - he is arrogant and not helpful and provided limited information upon enquiries; I believe it's due to our asian faces. The worst part of all was that he questioned me rudely and for why didnt we book the airport shuttle via him when the shuttle bus came to pick us up at the hotel (the price quoted by him was higher than the one we eventually booked for, you can easily find from the travel agency outside ). He even shouted at me to ask me hurry up as the van is waiting outside. All in all, if you don't care about service and just want a room to spend a night at reasonable cost, this hotel might be a choice for you. Good luck.

Part of the reason I'm giving this hotel a good review is because we lucked out and received a larger room than we booked. So I can't comment on the smaller economy rooms. Having said that, our room was large and clean. Hotel reception and all personnel were extremely accommodating (they really made an effort). On the top floor was the breakfast room with great views and excellent food. WIFI was good. The location is very convenient to the sites, in a good neighborhood, although the hotel itself is tucked away on a less attractive street (not an issue for me). I would stay here if visiting Istanbul again.

The Kaftan Hotel (which could be hard to find if you are unfamiliar with the Sultanahmet) is within walking distance of so much that any complaints pale and fall by the wayside. It is a short walk to the Blue Mosque, Ayasofya, Topkapi Palace, the Carpet Bazaar and the Cistern. There are also a plethora of good restaurants all withing a 15 minute walk. So what if my room was a bit small, i was a single traveler. The breakfast in the rooftop room is pretty good too with a harbor view.

The Hotel is located almost 10 min walking from the main attractions in Istanbul and 15 minutes walking from the tramway
With considering the price of Hotel , the service is very good

Small Hotel but good for few days

First of all, I and my brother have experienced this hotel with a single bed room in last June and we were so happy to meet such nice staffs there, they were really helpful and cooperative with us. As for the location of this hotel, it was 6 minutes away from the Sultan Ahmed Mosque and about 10 minutes to reach the Tram line. The only thing that was disappointed for us is the size of room and the bath room as well so if you are planning to book this hotel make sure to reserve a double room. The breakfast was good, simple, and diverse you have a set of traditional things which reflect the Turkish food style ( Try the Turkish tea there , it's so tasty). Overall, this was a nice experience, however, I recommend you all to avoid this hotel if you are looking for something luxurious and big in terms of the room dimensions.

The desk staff was very courteous and friendly. The rooms are tiny and so is the bathroom, but it does have everything you need including a tiny fridge sitting on the floor. The air conditioner worked great. It is not equipped for people who are the least bit handicapped for there are no elevators, just very steep stairs. Even the steps to get into the hotel are three very high steps. The location is wonderful. Lots of fun shops around, located about a 5 minute walk from the public transit, the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sofia and many restaurants. The immediate neighborhood is a bit run down but definitely safe. The breakfast, which was included, was very nice, on the forth floor terrace. It was very Turkish with fresh fruits, olives, cheeses, vegetables, breads, hard boiled eggs (perfection), and wonderful coffee (or tea or juices if you prefer). I'd stay here again.

I spent long weekend here. Very recomend this hotel. First of all, location is just perfect. really not more than 5 mins to Aia-Sophia by walk. Neighbourhood was nice. A lot of restaurants aroud hotel. But not noisy clubs, just nice and pleasant places for calm evening, very relaxing. About room. We paid 43euro for twin room (201) , small room, but more than enough actually for tourists :) Bathroom was really small, but still fine. Breakfast quite good, you deffinitelly will not stay hungry :) Staff friendly and helpful. Whast else to say? I like this place. You will not stay dissapointed. Hope my review will be helpfull for someone :)

The location of the Kaftan is great if you are in Istanbul to see the historic district. The views from the breakfast room are amazing. The breakfast is simple but delicious Turkish breakfast of cheese, vegetables, eggs, and bread. The rooms are small and you can hear through the walls. The sheets were clean but it did not seem like they clean the room very thouroughly. The room floor felt dirty when walking barefoot. Overall it was a good place to stay and it was reasonably priced.

After first 2 nights had clean towel; after 3rd night no clean towel and used towel hung to dry by 'pinching' in wardrobe door, not even hung on hook in bathroom. This caused a downgrade. Breakfast (included) was basic salad boiled egg, bread and condiments. Not what I'm used to but was surprised how much I enjoyed it! All staff o.k., breakfast staff wonderful. No lift but quite easy and was offered help.
Room clean, not bad size and bathroom good.

The room was exactly what I expected. Two singles pushed together. Very comfortable bed. Bathroom was very clean. Water pressure and hot water was awesome! View was towards the train tracks. But this wasn't the reason why I chose the room. Is your a tourist you are not site seeing your room. It's a room to sleep and shower in. Perfect for this. Great location to where you need to get to. Tram and train on your door step so to speak.

Small Gem Down the Hill from Wonders

Kaftan Hotel was a great find in the neighborhood that surrounded several historical sites in the Sultan Ahmet part of the city. It's small, quaint, and comfortable hotel with an extremely friendly staff. The room, breakfast, and view on the top floor are fantastic and were the best way to start a busy day roaming the streets of Istanbul.

The Kaftan Hotel is in a great location, very near the Blue Mosque. The situation is in a quiet end of a road. We heard no cars at all, but we did hear trains as the room we requested overlooked the Bosphurus, which it did, but it also overlooked a railway line.
The staff were friendly and the breakfast quite sufficient and fresh. Overall I would recommend it manly because of the central location.

City break bargain

The hotel was very cheap to stay at so the cleanliness, attentiveness of staff, Turkish buffet style breakfast (tea, coffee, juice, cereal, yoghurt, bread and various spreads, cucumber, tomato, cheese, meats, boiled eggs, fruit) with fantastic view of the harbour and brilliant shower in the room was a bargain. The location was also excellent, really is just a 5 minute walk from the blue mosque. The holes in bed linen and very small room were to be expected for the money we paid, but was comfy enough and we spent little time there anyway. Beware if not a fan of the morning prayer calls though, as this is quite loud from the hotel (we both liked it!) - an I doubt this avoidable in this area anyway! Fantastic value for money and would stay there again.

This is a basic budget hotel in a very good location within walking distance to many sites and restaurants. The rooms are basic but clean. Internet connection is excellent and fast. The staff are helpful and always present. The Expedia description mentions room with balconies and kitchen which is not correct, however there is a small refrigerator in the rooms.

Small hotel with friendly staff. Room was clean and efficient. In convenient location for Sultanamet. Bathroom shower was leaky. Breakfast was pretty good. Good for the value.

Think twice!

We were checked in to stay two nights, but on arrival our rooms were tiny, the staff were very rude and unhelpful. I made a comment on how small the room was, it was smaller then some of the hostel rooms we've stayed at for half the price. And the guy told us it should be fine for two nights. We eventually changed rooms and got a slightly larger room but it was unclean. There was left over drinks in the fridge and the bathroom was really below hotel standard. I've been travelling for two months and haven't stayed in a place quite as bad. We were so disatisfied we changed hotels that day. Unfortunately we still got charge for the first night. But I didn't want to spend another minute there. Save yourself the hassle and stay somewhere decent. I can recommend the Sultanahmet suites very highly!

Great location!

This hotel is situated in a great location! Close to all the important sites of Istanbul.
Around the hotel the restaurants are pretty expensive, so for a low budget traveler, you have to walk or take a metro to go to the cheaper restaurants. (we went by ferry to the Asian side and it is much cheaper over there)
All with all, I can recommend this hotel for everyone who wants to be close to the main sites.

Close to most must-see sights

Excellent location, 5 minutes walk to Blue Mosque, Ayasofya and Topkapi Palace. Very friendly staff and very clean hotel.

Basic budget hotel in good location

Location is great and for the right budget price I would recommend this hotel, but for those with limited expectations. WiFi spotty, bed hard, rooms Old, small with no amenities. Just a place to sleep. Air conditioning works but front desk controls it so must remind them to make it colder.

Clean, Good location, Helpful Staff

Good location; easy walking to major sights. The staff was friendly and helpful (with one exception: the guy who fell asleep and failed to do the wake-up call). A couple of neighboring properties were ill-kept, but we saw signs of neighborhood improvement. The room was small but clean and everything (including the wi-fi) worked. The roof top breakfast area was really nice as was the breakfast itself. Our room on the third floor allowed us to see over the top of unsightly neighbors to the sea; not sure what the view would be from lower floors.

Best Hotel Economically & Locally

I stayed six nights at this hotel and had a wonderful experience specially because of the location of the hotel as it is 3-4 minutes walk from most tourist attractions. Free breakfast and free internet are some of the amazing options we had there. We were specifically also allowed to use the breakfast hall to have our take away dinner there which was another out of the way service on our request. Both me and my mom were very happy with their service.

I would strongly recommended this hotel to others.

Great location with helpful staff

The location was great if you want a place near the main tourist attractions. The room on the top floor where breakfast is served can be accessed at all times during the day and is a great place to relax in the evening. It has a tremendous view of the Sea.

The breakfast was more than adequate. Just expect a Turkish version of a continental breakfast.

Staff spoke adequate English and were eager to please. Amenities are minimal, but the staff will work at meeting your requests. The rooms are clean, but worn.

At most a 5 minute walk from the Blue Mosque and Haja Sofia. The Grand Bazaa is maybe 15 or 20 minutes walk. The restaurants are less \"touristy\" and a better deal the farther away you go from this district.

There is a transit rail line half a block behind the hotel. If you are sensitive to noise, it could be a bother, but it seems not to run late at night (either that or we were sleeping too well to notice).

There are many small hotels around the Kaftan. Although we would go back, we would probably make our final choice based on price and customer reviews.

Hotel Kaftan a pleasant stay

The reception area was very cool, comfortable and great to just hang out in. The staff is friendly and always ready to help with advice and queries. The free internet was really great and allowed us to skyps family back home.

Rooms were comfy but the bathrooms are small. The shower also leaked resulting in a constantly wet bathroom floor. However the rest of the room though a bit small, was charming and the views were quaint.

Breakfast was excellent and the breakfast room most comfortable and pleasant. I would recommend this hotel.

Kaftan Hotel in Istan- Good location - Good Value

We picked Kaftan mostlly because they were among the few Istanbul hotels to explicitly offer twin (as opposed to double) rooms on the Hotels.com website and because they were affordable.

Hidden in the alleyways behind the Blue Mosque finding it was difficult at first (you really will need a map or you'll never find it) but as that description implies, the hotel was also really quite centrally located.

The room was on the smallish side and the mattresses weren't terribly comfortable and too short for my 6 feet 2 inches but the room was en-suite. No coffee or tea making equipment but there was a flat screen TV. The free wifi was a life saver.

Breakfast is served upstairs on a covered rooftop terrace with a great view of the many container ships entering the Bosphorus. Breakfast times may not be ideal for early risers (8:30 to 10:30) but for us it worked quite well. All in all, we thought this hotel offered very good value for money.

Mixed feelings

While the hotel seemed nice and pleasant, I would have expected a little more quality service. I originally booked for 3 nights and called up to cancel the first night due to not being able to arrive as planned (planning error on my part). I called the morning that I was supposed to arrive, but they were happy enough to waive the cancellation charge, (they quickly someone to take the room for that day...).

Breakfast was okay, nothing to shout about. The view was nice from the terrace restaurant. Wifi reception was poor in my room and there weren't many electricity outlets in the room. I had to unplug the minibar to be able to charge my phone. Anything else I wanted to charge had to be done from the outlets in the bathroom.

My biggest problem with my stay was that the room was not made after the first night. Getting in late that night, it was just too much hassle to call someone to clean the room. Rooms should automatically be cleaned and not have to be requested!

Touristy Istanbul on a Budget

The Kaftan hotel is the perfect hotel to stay within walking distance to all of the tourist attractions that is reasonably priced.

The hotel could use some maintenance, but overall was in decent shape. The hotel staff was extremely friendly and wanted to help.

The breakfast terrace was spectacular!!! The breakfast was somewhat spartan, but filled me up.

I will definately stay there again.

Sweet spot at the end of the lane

Stayed at the Kaftan for three nights and had a lovely time. Everyone on staff took very good care of us, the breakfast was simple and good and served in a splendid rooftop cafe overlooking the sea. I will stay there again and recommend it to you.

Hôtel très bien placé, a proximité de la mosquée bleue, de Sainte Sophie, du tramway.... Notre chambre familiale était très propre, le ménage est fait tous les jours. Le petit déjeuner est convenable pour bien commencer la journée. Le personnel est très prévenant.
